Deborah Kerr was, for many years, my favorite actress.  Of course, she had to share that honor on occasion with Susan Hayward.  It all depended on who had the most recent movie showing on NBC's "Saturday Night At the Movies" back in the golden days of the early 1960s.

Saturday Night at the Movies.  Wow, Ron, what memories that brings back to me.  It was SNAM (I like it) that first introduced me to TITANIC; an experience that started me on a life-long quest and obsession that would eventually lead me (many years later) to the site of that ship's watery grave.

Somewhere, in storage, I have a recording of the theme from "SNAM"!  (I like it, too!).

I vividly recall seeing "Titanic" on SNAM...and rushing to my school's library the next Monday where I discovered, to my delight, Walter Lord's vivid "A Night to Remember."

Other treasures that still resonate in memory: "Where the Sidewalk Ends", "No Highway in the Sky", "The Black Rose" and "The Mudlark."

You are correct, DR MS!  This is the schoolhouse used in the movie that actually exists in Bodega, CA.  At the time I visited the joint, it was a bed and breakfast, though the last I heard it was a private home.  Suzanne Pleshette's house next door was built for the movie and immediately removed afterwards. And those kids who ran from the bird attack must have been fast on their feet--the schoolhouse is actually about five miles away from downtown Bodega Bay.
Most of the running was done in front of a blue screen.  The eldest daughter of our neighbors was one of the lassies who ran and ran and ran; all three of our neighbor's kids got out of school on occasion to work as extras.  But she didn't have to sing that wretched song.

The diner still exists, too.  We had a wonderful brunch there.  For some reason I didn't take any pictures of it.

"...And Jed says he doesn't take kindly to people calling his girlfriend rude."

So said Ann in the post to which Jane refers. So Ann just slipped it in there right under our noses! Sweet romance!

Well, until now, I think many of us thought it might have been more along the lines of Jed's referring to TCB as "dad"...affectionate without being literal.

BK has confirmed the coupledom...and no one has denied it.   :)

If anyone sees BK 'round these parts, tell him to wait out in front of the Arlington for me to pick him up.  I think maybe he's in the shower and I need to leave, but I'll keep trying his cell.

One of my favorite personal treasures is a leather-bound copy of A NIGHT TO REMEMBER signed by Mr. Lord.  Sadly that edition was printed without the wonderful photographs.

I am afraid I don't remember those other three films from that series.

I read it, but I didn't think she meant girlfriend girlfriend. :)

Well, I have read the notes and caught up with the posts from yesterday, but none today (I don' have time...I'm already late for work!).  I'll try and catch up (or even ketchup...which was discussed a bit last night!) with today's posts a little later (after I get to work ;)).  Anyway, let me just say that yesterday's Get Together was spectacular!

I do want to post this one picture now.  Here's the gang outside the church just minutes before BK's reading/signing (from left to right):  Jeff (JMK), Tom (TCB), Me (George), Mike (MBarnum), Jed, Ann and BK himself!

My DVD collection is sadly out of whack for a Deborah Kerr double feature.

I would be reduced to following The King and I with Casino Royale.

Everybody, sing along!

The butter came out a grizzle-y-grey.
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee,
Mo, mo, mo!
The cheese took legs and ran away!
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee,
Hey bombosity,
Knickety-knackety,
Retro-quo-quality,
Willoby-wallaby,
Mo, mo, mo!…

Oy!  If I was one of those kids I would have jumped at the chance to join Suzanne Pleshette on the steps next door.

Today is the Winter Solstice, which means it is the shortest day in the year.   For Tomovoz and OzDerek, at least.

For the rest of us, we must languish in our Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.

What a difference a hemisphere makes!

George I'm enjoying the great photo you posted.

This morning we had a nice long conversation with Craig and heard about his future plans, which hopefully will include new employment soon.  He is in the process of sending out resumes.  His girlfriend rescued a puppy and a kitten, separately, they plan to find homes for.  Their cat is not happy with the current situation.

Welcome back, DR Stuart.

Hmmm...Bermuda would hit the spot for me right about now.  When our company was legit, that's where our parent company was headquartered.  I never got to go there, though.

Ah ha - schoolhouse from The Birds was my guess, too...but I was LATE LATE LATE to the party, and didn't log on after getting home from rehearsal last night.

What great photos!  So glad a good time was had by all and sundry - and that commerce also commenced.

NBC's Saturday Night at the Movies opened with GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, followed by THE SNOWS OF KILMANJARO, and third up was TITANIC.  Like DRs TCB and RLP - this is the movie and the showing that introduced me to the Titanic saga, and like them I immediately went looking for a book about the ship.  Interesting, even though I couldn't find the Sturges family on the passenger list.

NIAGARA was also shown - I think the series started in the fall of 1963, so if was about a year after Marilyn's demise.

DR STUART went to Bermuda and I didn't even get a lousy T-shirt.

Ditto BK and Portland.

Congrats to DR RLP on his sparkling prize AND all those who correctly solved the trivia question.  I got stuck - and kept looking at the wrong years....no wonder!
