Back from a delicious lunch with DR JMK who promises to be back on HHW regularly now that his work life is getting less frantic.

We ate at THE RAM which is across the street from Willamette University (where JMK was attending a function). JMK had a yummy looking garden burger (in honor of BK, no doubt) and I had a huge, dripping with grease, garlic, mushroom, and swiss burger piled high with carmelized onions. It was very tasty indeed.

Joan came and went - she had to go home (only five minutes away) and she'll be back in five minutes (knowing her, probably fifteen).

I began my afternoon totally enjoying rewatching two CLOSER episodes. The one with the murdered wife of a chef and my favorite of Season 2, Flynn and Provinza finding the dead body in Provinza's garage. Nice, tidy mysteries and some wonderful comic moments.

Next came the upcoming DVD release of THE MANY ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH. This is the 1977 feature release of the three short subject POOH features made in 1966, 1968, and 1974 with some (then) new bridging material and a new coda.

As features, the stories are very gentle with "adventures" maybe suggesting more action than is obviously there. Small children would love the stories, of course, but unlike the Disney animated features which are just as entertaining for adults as they are for children, I find the POOH stories of less interest as an adult. And because the short subjects were made over an 8 year stretch, there are inconsistencies from short to short, especially in the actors voicing Christopher Robin and the size and coloring of some of the characters.

Disney hasn't done anything much to clean up the print used for the transfer, and though it isn't what I would call dirty, there are stray bits of dirt and some definite ghosting around images causing brightness fluctuations that affect the image and cause viewer distraction. More grain than is usual for a Disney animated release, but again, since there has not been any digital clean up, that's not surprising.

I also watched the "making of" featurette which was prepared for the last DVD release of this material which predated the death of Paul Winchell, so he's an active participant.

I did enjoy learning the history behind the the acquisition of the material by Disney in 1961 and the reasons affecting the decision to make the three separate shorts rather than one long feature film.

I cued up ANGEL in the DVD player, but when I go back down, I'll start with the Blu-ray of RIO BRAVO. It's over two hours long, so I'll be able to fit in an ANGEL episode or two before I come back on line later tonight.

Muscatel.  For milady's pleasure.  As John Astin said in MAKE MINE MINK.  There are some paper cups in the glove compartment.

I have had one of those mornings when everything clicked. I snuck out and went to Staples to get the cards to print, well as I was standing in Staples thinking that I should just go ahead and buy my phone system there today my cell rang....the phone company asking if they can come and install my phones this morning.  I said "Sure"  Bought the phones and went to the new office where the office manager gave me my keys!

Now the phones are in and working. Cool.  As I left and was walking right across the street from the print shop, my cell rang and it was the printers saying they had all my proofs ready - so I crossed the street and we discovered that the phone number on everything was wrong.  They had already sent the announcements up to their shop to be printed, but wonder of wonders they hadn't started them yet!  Whew!

And while I was there I told them I was going to make up some cards and they said they would run a quick 100 for me this afternoon so I have them to take with me tomorrow!  Wow! I like it when things work like this.

Wow! Do you have great luck or some special magic that makes these things come together for you? In any case, it's great to see.

I see one reason why the Tonys did so poorly in the ratings: the SOPRANOS series finale scores 12 million viewers on Sunday night, its largest audience in over two years and the highest rated show of the night even though it does come on a paycable channel!

BTW, yesterday morning I was listening to NPR and they gave a synopsis of the last SOPRANOS finale. And NO SPOILER ALERT!! Whatever were they thinking???

Seriously, I was quite surprised that NPR gave precious air time to THE SOPRANOS.

My newspaper had a banner at the top of the newspaper expressing surprise at the finale with the story on page 2A.

Lots of news outlets considered it a news story.

Well, didn't that happen last year too?  And/or the year before?  Plus, there's also been the basketball playoffs.

Maybe if we were able to sell millions of them, like Harry Potter, we could make them a little cheaper!

BTW...$18.26 at Deep Discount or $26.99 at Amazon!

That might work :)

Might have been a SEASON finale but not a SERIES finale.

Need to do a bit of writing and then head down for more viewing. I cleaned the living room this morning, so I won't have to deal with that now.

With all the crap going on in my life these days, it's always nice for something good to occur.  I'm featured once again by my publisher!

I sometimes turn on the captioning when watching Grey Gardens.  It helps when Little Edie is whispering.

I definately turn it on for THE FULL MONTY.  I can't understand a bloody word they say in the first half of the movie.

To the tune of the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil"

Let me proudly introduce myself...

Hi, my name is Mz Karen and I used to be a HHW gratuitous poster many, many postings ago...You thought you were rid of me, but I'm BAAA-CKKK! And I expect, no, make that demand, a flurry of frenzied postings welcoming me back -- postings like "Mz Karen, my darling, youhave been missed terribly"  "Things were never the same once you left us"  "Don't you ever pull that stunt again" etc., etc.

Were you gone?

At 2PM it was a bright sunny spring afternoon, so I decided to take Fletcher for a walk - we could meet Woody have way home from work, and Fletcher needs the exercise.

Well, about half way there, Fletcher had had enough of exercise:

After about 10 minutes, he decided to give it another try
