Well, you've read the notes, you know the sad news, and now it is time for you to post until the sad cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PRESCIENT!
-
'night
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's 52 degrees F outside, but I would swear it's 80 degrees in the apartment. And why? you may ask. This is my guess: on Monday afternoon, when I stepped out to post that payment, there was a young officious woman in a uniform outside the apartment building. She said she was looking for the super and did I have heat in my apartment? I told her I did, even when I didn't feel it was necessary. She said there had been complaints about no heat and I told herthat was ridiculous. I suspect Jeff has goosed the heat as a result.
-
DR singdaw, I'm happy you enjoyed A Street Cat Named Bob. Now that I've read Bowen's three Bob books, I realize the movie incorporates both the first book and The World According to Bob, which begins with literary agent inquiring about a possible book and ends with the book signing. The new film is about the last Christmas before the book was published.
-
I wanted a lazy day , but I think I wasted too much of yesterday morning lying down with the cats, so I'm hoping I can accomplish more today.
-
DR JohnG, I hope you find some relief today.
-
DR Jeanne, I would suggest you might call the restaurant management and explain your concerns about the employee without mentioning when you were there or who the employee might be, just giving the facts. Maybe all the employees need to be shaped up/
-
I am convinced Trump made Coney Barrett sign a document in her own blood before she was confirmed. He's packing the court because he's counting on "his" judges to confirm he won the election when /if he contests it. I do not trust her at all.
When the Fat Orange Slug won in 2016, I knew we were in trouble, but I kept thinking, maybe he won't be as bad as I fear. He was a million times worse.
-
DR Jeanne, which Wind in the Willows were you watching?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I slept well, which was a relief.
-
I slept well, which was a relief.
Very happy news! When do you see your doctor?
-
Some kind neighbor - I suspect Ann or Jen on five - left 40 lbs of kitty litter at my door last night.
-
My A&T blog keeps getting hits from China. I do not know anyone in China so I don't know if someone's trying to hack into my computer or steal my stories and characters.
-
Ann just confirmed that she brought up the litter. I really love her. She and Jen had a sweet little dog that died earlier this year from cancer. The landlord says they cannot adopt another. This pisses me off since there have always been dogs in the building over the past 40 years. In 1980, the super had a large dog, I've had two neighbors of maybe six or so living above me over the years who had dogs, one a sweet little boxer and I don't think I ever saw the other one; I just heard him barking all the time. There are more I no longer remember, so I do not understand why the landlord is giving them a hard time.

Continued vibes for DR JOHN G.
Presentation vibes for DR singdaw.

It took us one hour and fifteen minutes to do a scene last night. Computers kept freezing or audio was messed up.....
It was of course my drinking scene....so since there were just a few of us, I went into my Vitameatavegamin routine now and then between takes....which amused the other participants.....
I do my silent bit tonight - and a couple of pick ups for the other office scene....and then I think I'm done....
We shall see.
-
Good morning, all.

Maybe you need to buy a 1961 Chevrolet.

-
DR VIXMOM's post reminded me of the Used Car salesman who used to SLASH prices on the air..... "Oh, Dave.....you're killin' me."
But I couldn't find a link.....
-
LOL.....DR JANE the walnuts have hit the wastebasket.

Hmm. You just might be right, DR Jrand70.
I WATCHED THE WHOLE THING
Wow. I don't remember anything that extensive, even though I probably saw it a million times. That's almost getting into industrial musical territory.

It is 46 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale, and raining. One of my favorite kinds of weather to not have to go out in.
More rain tomorrow and Friday, effects of the hurricane I think. One of the Professional Weather Guessers sites even insists there could be a little snow mixed in with the rain on Friday.
Did I just say that?
-
Ask BK:
What kind of chili do you buy or make for the hot dogs at home?
-
Continued vibes for DR JOHN G.
Presentation vibes for DR singdaw.
Ditto to both!

It’s 46 and drizzly here. No chance of snow.

Onward

Two!

DR singdaw, I meant to add something about the Street Cat Bob movie. At the book signing, the second customer for a signed book, the man in the plaid shirt, is the real James Bowen.
-
LOL.....DR JANE the walnuts have hit the wastebasket.
;D. I expect they toss better than raisins.
-
Good morning.
-
It is still cold here in the mornings (for us). So it wasn't necessary for me to be at the church at dawn to remove shrubs. So I'm about to head over for another day of work.
-
The men are coming Saturday to dig out the stumps and take the brush. I want to have as much done as I can get done.
-
It is supposed to get back up to 90 degrees by Saturday. Until then, I am enjoying the cool weather.
-

Well I'll be!

Met with my surgeon this morning. It looks like my recent medical journey has reached an end point. There are still consultations to see if I need to modify my diet, but no further surgeries in the immediate future.
-
Thank you for the vibes, everyone!
-
My car is dead again, so I'm going to arrange for AAA to come out and replace the battery.

Wonderful news. I hope they will be keeping a very close watch on you and your other kidney.

What?? You mean they could hire the real cat for the movie, but not the real guy to be in his own movie? What kind of malarkey is that?? :o
;D

BK. Can you give me simple explanations on the differences between
Producing, engineering, editing, mixing and mastering?
-
Good Morning. Nothing too much happening today.
That's all I have....
-
ChasSmith: Hormel, no beans.

BK. Can you give me simple explanations on the differences between
Producing, engineering, editing, mixing and mastering?
Engineering a recording means the engineer figures out the layout of the room for the musicians/singers, decides which mics are best for what and gets everything prepared in the booth so when the band comes in he can have them play and get levels. My folks know what I like to hear when we're recording so they do that. They also get the headphone mixes ready and then adjust when the players need something. Once recording, he makes sure everything is going down without distortion and cleanly.
Mixing (with only a couple of early albums the exception, I use engineers who also do the mix) - the two I've worked with most take the tracks we've recorded and mix them together so all the instruments are in the proper place in the soundscape, reverb is what I like, then the singers are added if there are singers. I eventually trusted both to do the initial mix themselves, then I'd hear and be happy or make whatever adjustment I feel necessary. Those mixed and approved tracks get sent to the mastering engineer.
His/her job is to make sure the levels are consistent between tracks, assembles everything in order, and generally smooths out the sound so the album is all of a piece - he can't change the mix, so it's just the levels (you never want the listener to have to touch their volume knob), and adding the hot fudge and whipped cream to the sound.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep and disturbing dreams again
-
The last guy in the group number finally did his video and sent me a link - that doesn't work. It's been thirty minutes since I alerted him to that fact. Not good.
-
Sorry to hear about Jerry's Deli.
That and Cantor's were my favorites in Los Angeles.
-
Although it's not my favorite Hitchcock, I do like ROPE.
Apparently when it was first released, some cities...including my home town of Seattle...made it difficult for theaters to play it because of its subject matter.

This looks pretty bad. I think she might have been watching this:
-
It is supposed to get back up to 90 degrees by Saturday. Until then, I am enjoying the cool weather.
We are enjoying sunshine and 54 degrees today.
-
It is a special experience eating at a restaurant where the staff and regular customers know you. We have never experienced this to the extent that we have done so at Beaches. Bruce I feel sad for you losing your special place.

Texas singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver has died. Saw him play half a dozen times, maybe more. Drove through an ice storm once to hear him play with Kinky Friedman. Saw him play at Willie Nelson’s Pure Luck Ranch, where he also performed with Willie after he finished his own set. Met him a few times, too. Pure Texas music. He had a great song called I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (but I’m gonna be a diamond some day). It was used over the credits of a beautiful little film that Joey Lauren Adams directed.

Three!

Come Early Morning was the name of the movie Adams directed. I found it sweet and well made.

That's great you were able to see him preform several times. The sound on the link was excellent and I was able to listen to the entire song. I can see why you enjoyed watching him in person.

Around 3:45 I ordered groceries to be delivered by 6:00. Thirty minutes ago I got an email saying there was a delay and the groceries would arrive between 6:15 and 6:45. At 5:30 the delivery arrived!

DR CHAS SMITH there is a similar film with Miss Dinah Shore & Pat Boone extolling the virtues of the 1959 Chevrolet - there is a flag on the upper right hand side that reads: "Not for broadcast."
I think the 1961 film was also for trade shows or dealers.......
-
DR singdaw - I meant to tell you that my mother had one kidney that never matured, so she was working with only one kidney for her entire life and suffered no ill effects from the fact.....
-
I will be going to ZOOM rehearsal in about 15 minutes.....
AND a new episode of THE AMAZING RACE happens at 8 p.m. EST on CBS......
-
My uncle and my sister came today. We had pizza and talked about movies and television.
My uncle knows the name of some of the regular American Bandstand dancers from Philadelphia.....so I showed him where he could view some videos on YouTube.....
-
I took tomorrow off. My two doctors appointments will keep me busy for too much of the day.
-
Approving tracks all morning and afternoon.
-
I have more than three weeks of vacation built up. This is the last year we can carry over time. Starting next year, no one apparently gets more than 49 days off in the year, which is close to 10 weeks. But you can buy up to three weeks. I bought an extra week this year, which started before we knew about the pandemic. They will refund that next year. Going forward, you will get reimbursed for time not taken. But you must also take 10 days. In other words, if you don’t take a minimum of two weeks, you won’t be reimbursed for that time. Somewhat convoluted, I know.

Very good point. That would have been one long word from our sponsor.

Hello, everyone.
-
The electrician was right on time and was here maybe two minutes. It turns out he wasn't here to do work today, he was just taking measurements and checking things out for when he returns in a few weeks. The manager, of course, never tells us anything. She knows nothing about building maintenance and therefore doesn't even know what questions to ask. But the electrician saw the file cabinet, was able to work around it today, and said they could move it when they come next time. I'll move little stuff out of the way for them then.

Two in one day-groan. Vibes for all good news.

Last night TCB asked if I still ate my take-out falafels. Yes. The guy who didn't wash his hands was just the order-taker and had nothing to do with food preparation. Whether the kitchen staff washes their hands often I couldn't say.
-

That's what I was thinking. I'm not trying to get the guy in trouble, especially since I think a lot of young people wouldn't have washed their hands, either. Most younger people just don't seem to take Covid very seriously. And I don't know that any of the other employees are any more cognizant of sanitation issues than he was.

It is hard to imagine he didn't tell her he would be taking measurements and the date of his return. Oh well, at least he seems competent.

She's been put in a tough spot. She's bright, she knows what's going on. She's a pawn for the far right and I doubt that she's happy about that. She's getting a lot of hate from Democrats, which can't be comfortable for her. Whether she deserves it or not I can't say. I wonder if her skin is thick enough. Washington is a mean place.

I agree that it's special. A sort of home away from home. And few restaurants lend themselves to being that.

He seemed quite competent and was very nice as well. I don't think the return date has been set yet -- he told me 3-4 weeks. She knows nothing, has a lousy memory, doesn't bother to write much down, and just assumes we'll be home. At least she gave us a week's notice this time. The last time the plumber came I hadn't heard anything about when he'd be here, then got a text that morning that he'd be here in 2 hours. I had a doctor's appointment. Fortunately, the plumber was able to replace my faucet and be gone so I was OK. The winner was the day the plumber shut the water off while I was washing my hair. The plumber they like so much is a total neanderthal, the most inconsiderate person I've met. This was during the recession when there were lots of vacancies. She did learn that someone needs to let us know ahead of time before shutting the water off.

Very strange. Our previous vacation maximum was 240 hours (prorated for part-timers) going into the next month, which is a total of 30 days for full-timers. Last year, the union negotiated that we are now able to accrue as much vacation as we want, but we have to be at or under 240 before we go into the next fiscal year (Jan-Dec). The hard part, of course, is for people out in the branches being able to schedule vacation, but a few years ago, we negotiated (when the vacation limit was still monthly) that if you accrue more than your max vacation time, the amount above 240 would roll over into your sick leave, which has no cap, so no one will actually lose any more time anymore. :)
-
And since we're so close...

Gratuitous Post #100!

That should make you feel good.

DR John I am wearing my Luckenback sweatshirt today. Have you been to concerts there?
-
Starting to watch Wind in the Willows. Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame wrote the book. I hope it's closer to that than his not-so-good adaptation of Trollope's Dr. Thorne.
-
Excellent news for Singdaw, although I misread surgeon as sugar daddy.
-
;D
-
Picked up a couple of packages and am home. I need some sleep and to not have allergy issues. Very logy. I had tuna sandwiches for food, Kritzerland show stuff is on track, no time to work on project one but will later before bed. Listening to Szell do Mozart - he had such a light and brisk touch with it that it's almost not making me want to vomit on the ground.
-
It has been a long time since I have gone for a sunset walk. Of course because I finally went the sunset was unspectacular. I moon rising over Mt Hood was rather beautiful, especially with the view of the river and the little marina here.
-
Well, it's time for me leave work, so I shall. Other people are here in the building, so I don't have to close it. Fine with me! ;)
Be back later.
-
DR John I am wearing my Luckenback sweatshirt today. Have you been to concerts there?
I have driven through there many times but I haven’t had the occasion to stop there yet.

Best part of this Wind is the relationship between Mole and Ratty.

;D Me, too!

Insert raised eyebrows here.
Amongst other things.

Thanks for all the patented HHW vibes.
The presentation was exactly 45 minutes, and I think it went well. All the embedded videos played as they were supposed to. People seemed receptive.
-
~~~MEDICAL VIBES~~~ for Dr. John G. tomorrow!
-
I was very fortunate that I just had not taken a lot of vacation over the past few years, and had a lot of banked days between vacation and sick time. Even with all of the time I have taken off over the past 3 to 4 months, I think I still have about 30 days in reserve.
-
Here are some very funny animal photos.
-
I wonder if Szell ever used Excel?
-
Moving on...
-
To FIVE!
-
I wonder if Szell ever used Excel?
Time will tell. Or William Tell. Hell.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing. Listening to Szell/Casadesus do Mozart piano concertos, then it's on to the Schumann symphonies, which I don't really have to listen to since I have them by Szell on SACD - just want to hear if the mastering is better there.
-
DR John I am wearing my Luckenback sweatshirt today. Have you been to concerts there?
I have driven through there many times but I haven’t had the occasion to stop there yet.
There isn't much to see but we had fun just being there.
-
Vibes you don't need to use it up for more sick leave.
-
'night
-
Finished project one - lots of futzing and finessing to do and since it involves music, I still have some of that work to do, but it's done.
-
I was going to bypass the Schumann symphonies but I'm enjoying them so much that I'm not going to bypass. And the sound is great, which means the SACD was taken from this master, which is, after all, just two years old.
-
Had a nice long chat with the Vixter
-
Can’t believe we’re already discussing Thanksgiving plans and Christmas
-
She and Vixhusband voted last Thursday. She said there was no wait when they went walked right in, voted and left
-
Well it’s tomorrow, in fact it’s been tomorrow for hours, so I guess I had better get some sleep
-
Good night, vixmom.
Good night, Tom.
-
I watched the first act of The Wind in the Willows that's streaming on YouTube right now. It's the musical version that's also available through Amazon Streaming (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0786RWX9C/) and BroadwayHD (https://www.broadwayhd.com/movies/AW2GuG5Upx3F9_4Aqevx?display=portrait).
-
I liked the song "The Open Road." ::)
-
It's just a very big show. I ran sound for an original musical adaptation about eight years ago and it was absolutely delightful and thoughtful. This was big and bombastic and had a huge cast. We had just enough people and it was so good.
Oh, well.
-
You can't have everything.
