I ended up with a season pass on Amazon for Fosse/Verdon. So, I watched episode two - I wasn't that crazy about episode one, but this one really irritated me. The writing is so lousy and I really don't like the structure of it - going back and forth and back and forth, and then this director everyone thinks is the greatest thing since who knows what starts with the awful cross-cutting ala All That Jazz to Fosse tapping on a stage to underscore the scene that's unfolding - it's cheap, off-putting, and adds zilch - in fact, I almost shut it off. It's fun when they get the details right and it's also painfully obvious the way they have to shoot the numbers that neither Ms. Williams nor Mr. Rockwell are dancers - which is kind of an issue when the show is called Fosse/Verdon - two of the greatest dancers ever. But Ms. Williams acts it very well and Mr. Rockwell certainly has the voice down but his bald cap is horrendous and even when Mr. Fosse was laconic and laid back there was an energy in the room - whereas Mr. Rockewll is merely laconic and laid back with absolutely no energy at all. In the end, for me, it's the writing and the direction that are not cutting it. Just one man's opinion. Let's hear some others.
