Title: ABLE TO LEAP TALL BUILDINGS IN A SINGLE BOUND
Post by: bk on August 08, 2012, 11:52:27 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes leapt tall buildings in a single bound, and now it is time for you to post until the leaping cows come home - they're currently playing with the leapin' lizards.

Good morning all!  I don't know what is wrong this week but I'm still not feeling up to snuff.  I can't really point to anything that is wrong.  Just plain don't feel good.  I didn't walk this morning or last night.   Hoping when the weekend gets here and I can sleep in that fixes whatever is wrong.

Vibes for that darn check for DR Elmore.

Vibes to all who need them.

Sleeping vibes to DR Jane.

Have a wonder filled day!

Good morning, all! A combination of anxiety over the check's arrival, some flight anxiety, and the heat and humidity gave me a really restless night. I remember a dream with Judy Kaye, but I have no memory of what the dream was about! Then, around 5:15am, I awoke for good and tossed about until the alarm went off around 6:30.  Around 8, I will call the post office and see if my regular carrier is in today. He was off yesterday, and I suspect today as well. If he's there, I can see if the check is in the mail sorted for me and I can hopefully pick it up when I take post the two packages I have here. Of course,if he's off today, that means I'm reliant on any carrier and there's the possibility the check didn't come in.

The added complication isthat i have a 3:30 meeting with the record producer about the recording, and if the check hasn't arrived before I leave for the meeting, it means it won't be deposited today. If it shows up.

This whole thing is infuriating because the Man from Philadelphia screwed up big.

Larry, did he screw up big?  Does that mean he intended to send the check and didn't send it?

Finally had an incident that's clicked into place an understanding of the owners at that All that Chat site that's making me understand what's going on.

They're running a chat board that's read and actually has an impact on the theater industry, that the people in the commercial Broadway and off-Broadway and regional industry have allowed to have a commercial impact on it.

The people who run and own the site, however, are running from small, far-away cities in PA and CT, and with the politics of a local neighborhood theater newspaper, I would say with all the attendant totally expected favoritisms and I would add with all the usual behavioral tics totally expected in such a situation.

It all makes sense and comes into focus, given that.  There's just a clear break between who's running this widely read (and extremely powerful) site and who the readership and users are.

And I emphasize I mean that with no slam at local areas like Wexford, PA, it's just an observation about very close-knit  neighborhoods and environments.

i called the post office. My regular carrier is back today, and he told me he would call me if it turns up, so I can run over to the PO and pick it up. He;s due to retire this year and it's depressing the hell out of me. I don't recall a carrier so helpful and friendly since some of the postal carriers we had in Middletown OH  50 years ago.

The Man from Philadelphia always drags his feet sendng checks:  it's been difficult dealing with vendors for the office because both he and his business manager seem to regard this effort as a secondary deal. If I send him an invoice on Monday, he won't write the check until the following weekend. He's known for a month i was sending the invoice before I left for Dublin in time to get the check deposited and the bills paid before I left. On Monday, he sent me an email saying that urgent business had prevented him from sending the check. Well, the jerk could have written the check on the day he got the invoice, and i wouldn't be sitting here fretting about the situation.

and the check is in my postal carrier's hands!  He just called, and I am going over to the PO in the next 15 minutes. Then, I will head for the bank and deposit it.

I'm gonna record with Stephen Rea next week! Now I have to watch THE CRYING GAME again.

That's GREAT news about the check!

AND the carrier.

I have to say that this is the first time I've known a New Yorker who's actually on speaking terms with their mail carrier, let alone has praise for him or her.  Which of course doesn't mean it's all that uncommon, but I've only heard the negative stories.  DR Elmore is very fortunate in that regard.  I can assure you it's still very much like Middletown out this way.  Our mail lady bends over backwards if there's something to look for, all the time keeping us alerted to sightings of coyotes and other such critical data.

The check is in the bank, the bills are posted, and my day until 3:00 is wide open.

Scott, my regular carrier, is the absolute best! I really do appreciate him and, when he retires this year, I will sorely miss him. I find the problem at the local PO, which I consider the worst in the City, is that the management is a bunch of morons. Last week, I sent the Post Office a request to have my mail held while I'm in Dublin. Scott has not yet received the request from the management.

I've had a couple of times in the past where I've submitted holds only to come back and find that the mail was being delivered. The lady in charge of the carriers, whenever I complain, has an excuse blaming everyone but her administrative incompetence. She's a fool.

It may not be a stage play or a movie, but I am back in my directing mode and loving it.

Four of my books/plays are in various stages of production as audio books.  The first one is, in fact, finished and should be available before the end of the month.

On the other three, I'm working with the voice actors almost on a daily basis, giving them notes, etc.

I didn't realize how much a missed this.

I've learned it is best to hand the hold request to the mail carrier or leave it in our mail box.  I have also left two requests, one at the post office & one in the box.  If nothing important is expected I stop delivery the day before to make sure it went through.  Most of all, I find it easier to have my neighbor pick up my mail for me.  We do the same for her.

In any case...

I should get ready for Day Three of my TheatreWorks "boot camp". We'll start putting the show on its feet today, so I won't have to do much teaching today. However, I will be having to figure out just how much of the underscore I will need or not need to use. Additionally, I'll have to figure out my cueing for various sections and entrances. I suspect I will be doing a lot of "sniff cues".

Probably not, as there is an Austin version of the book and SXSW is very Austin-centric. Still, it's something to mention to the publisher ...

The demolition team is prepping.  We have added the removal of several large oak trees that grow through or over our decks.  For fire safety they shouldn't be so close to the house, plus during acorn season our house sounds like we are under attack.   It is amazing how hard the acorns hit our house.

Of course one of the groomsmen who was chosen six months ago said yesterday that he has NO black jacket and no $$$ to buy one.  So we've been looking around.  I think I have one that will fit him.....but it's just one more annoyance.

Break a leg tonight, DR JRand61!

Yes, but you are only supposed to do it when she is out of town!   ;)

DR elmore - Can you activate your hold at the Post Office online? I've found this to be the most efficient way to get it done since the notification seems to go directly to the postal scanners/computer system.

USPS - Hold Mail Service (https://holdmail.usps.com/holdmail/)

I always go tthrough the US Postal site. That's why the situation is so frustrating. I think it's relayed to the local PO and the moron in charge screws it up.

Sniff cues?  Isn't that when the actor actually dies?

What a morning.  CDs will now not be here until Monday, as the helper is not available tomorrow.  The plant had a machine go down yesterday, thanks to the 110 degree heat in Valencia.  And then the shrink wrap machine went down, too.  Apparently, it never occurred to anyone to pass along this information.  So, I'm going to deduct the cost of the helper for today from my next invoice and I told them this cannot happen again.  They will be ready tomorrow, but I've told them repeatedly I need three days' notice for the helper.  It's really annoying because that means next week is the potential of also shipping the Baja and Junior High stuff.

Something that DID arrive is the hardcover copy of "There's Mel".  And it's lovely.  Thank you!

Now, I happen to possess the ability to read or skim completely through a paperbound book leaving not so much as a fingerprint or any other evidence that it was read.  Seriously.  That first copy you sent is still in its original condition -- (as, btw, is my "Album Produced By..." after TWO readings) -- in case you can use it, or want it sent on to someone else.  And thanks again for sending it on ahead of the other.

Cool!

I'm told package should be arriving between two-thirty and three.  Meanwhile, even more Dear Brigitte drama - the plant called and alerted the printer that there was a problem on the tray cards - something to do with track numbers in the first column having shifted over slightly to the right, thereby covering up the first letter of each track.  I'd made a revision before printing and apparently in doing that fix, this happened, and then no one caught it, including the designer when he approved the film.  So, since we're a little behind anyway, the printer is reprinting it gratis and it will be to the plant on Tuesday and we'll ship CDs on Wednesday.  I'm quite ready for this day to be over.

I fully expected to see a full report on the new show that recently debuted on TLC , but so far I've been seriously disappointed.

Come on, guys!

Won't you "holla for a dolla Honey Boo Boo"? (http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/tv/here-comes-honey-boo-boo)

 ;D
That's the kind of show that makes me glad I don't watch TV. Of course, I had to read an article about it though. I couldn't resist. All my white trashiness came flooding to the surface. Made me long for the days when I lived in a mobile home.  ;D

The 40x60 beast has arrived - forgive the poor quality of the photograph, but here it is:

So, are you taking bids from people who'll want you to leave it to them in your will 40 or 50 years from now?

To the right of this photo.  If you look at the photo of the house you can tell this is the spot where the rock wall was this morning.

Yes, but if he announced who he was leaving it to; he might not live another 40 or 50 years.

Why can I get Row Five tickets to see Barbra for $850.00 a piece in Vancouver, but I would have had to mortgage Nicky to be in the same hemisphere with Streisand in Brooklyn?

TCB--I think you're looking at a VIP package (for $850).  The highest regular ticket price was $650 in Brooklyn and around $500 for these new dates.  It's much easier to find tickets of all prices in the new locations.  There's a presale right now for people on her mailing list.  The password is "EVERGREEN."

almost a "Nicky Arnstein" reference

crossed with a "Sadie, Sadie, married lady, meet a mortgagee" reference

Here's hoping the landscaping turns out wonderful for DR Jane and DH Keith!

Sheena took her splint off and I will have to get her to the vet to have it put back on.  I feel sorry for her because I know it is uncomfortable.

I believe he goes to bed early, or used to when he worked, but I doubt this early.  When I say 'night around seven I'm just getting off for the night, not going to sleep.

They've almost finished the two neighbors' driveways and began chopping up the uneven parts of mine today.  There's more of that to be done, then a layer of stone laid down, then the asphalt.  I have no idea how much of this can be done when there's rain, and there's supposed to be some rain and thunderstorms tomorrow.  It was hot work for them yesterday and today, though.  It reminded me of chain gang movies.  Me, I've just been slaving over a hot laserdisc player, working on SHOW BOAT transfers which are coming along quite nicely.

We went to our old neighborhood for an estate sale, where I found 3 tablecloths that match some holiday placements and napkins that I've had for 25 years.  Then we went to the West Chester Library and to dinner at Bravo Italian Cucina.  Fortunately, we didn't get caught in the thunderstorms that are all around us.

LOL DR Jose, it's an indoor exercise bike.  I've taken it for a spin once, but haven't gotten down there tonight.  I did pick up my bike from being serviced tonight after work.   It's going to be a beautiful weekend.  81 tomorrow for a high and only 79 on Saturday.  I'll definitely take one or both of my outdoor bikes for a spin.

I'm hungry and am VERY tired of eating low-cal crackers and low-cal cheese.  BORED.  I had an apple, too, and some pineapple - boring.  HUNGRY.  May have to go get something tiny to eat, but what?  It's late now.  Could have a salad or something with oil and mostly vinegar dressing.  Hungry.  Cracker seems to be almost thirty minutes longer than yesterday's episode and I'm not sure how much LONGER it's got to go.

Had to go out and have a salad.  I'm back and shall now write some notes.  In other news, I can tell you we're probably going to do a "second edition" of Follies - I was on the fence about it, frankly, but my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim, said it would please him if we could do another run.
