DR Jane - As others have mentioned, I will be with Lestat at that point and time next year.  And, hopefully, for that point and time the following year... and so on... and so on...

;)

*I'm just a "local" musician for the run here in DC.  Otherwise, they travel with two keyboard players, as well as a guitarist, bass player and drummer.

Then I watched NIGHT STALKER, and really enjoyed it for the first time. And what I liked about it was that the female reporter that's been teaming with Carl and giving him grief just signed off and let Carl do his own thing.

The show is SO much better with the lone reporter trying to sniff out the truth. I will never understand why the man who reimagined the show thought having a female reporter tagging along with Kolchak would be a good idea.

And I really like the logo for Lestat too.

*And I finally bought a copy of "Interview with the Vampire".  Research, ya' know.

Then I watched WILL & GRACE. It was a trifle funnier than last week's snore fest, but not by much. The revelation about Richard Chamberlain was sort of a neat twist that I didn't see coming.

Sad note: Alec Baldwin used to be one of the sexiest and most desirable actors in the world. Even when he started putting on weight, I didn't mind because he still looked good to me. But tonight, he came into a sauna scene with just a towel wrapped around his waist, and I think this must be the moment any sexiness quotient I thought he retained was lost.

...And I've already started tracking down the reviews for In My Life....

;D

Brantley's has to be my favorite so far.

http://theater2.nytimes.com/2005/10/21/theater/reviews/21life.html

*Yes, you will probably have to register to check the review out.  BUT, as I've mentioned before, I've NEVER received any spam from the Times and it's related companies.  Just make sure to check - or uncheck as the case may be - those boxes regarding the e-mail preferences.

DR Jane - Thanks for posting those addresses and links...  I am running a bit behind on my annotated listing.  I set aside some time the other day to get it done, and then after about two hours, I was still entering addresses, phone numbers and URLs.   -I guess we really did walk and see a LOT!  I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow since I'm actually totally off during the day.

I read that COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF has been renewed for the rest of the season, and as it's the highest rated new show this year, I suspect a second season for it is a no brainer.

OH!

And while looking for the In My Life reviews, I came across this:

http://www.broadwayabridged.com/scripts/inmylife.shtml

A pretty darn funny read.  And a pretty darn accurate "condensation" of the show.  -And it's funnier than the real show too!

:)

And there are also some other "abridgements" on there too.  Sort of hit or miss, but some good giggles here and there.

The thing that has impressed me the most with the Val Lewtons that I've watched is the startling use of shadows. A critic friend of mine who died a few years ago wrote a book on Val Lewton's films and their marvelous use of shadows, but I had truly forgotten how impressive they are in these movies.

And since the Lewtons aren't very long, the slender plots don't feel weighed down at all.

Thanks! I'll need them! Even with my company tomorrow afternoon, I hope to make a real dent in all this stuff tomorrow. There is nothing on network TV on Friday night that I watch now, so that will open up several hours.

As for "Once Upon A Mattress" airing on Sunday night...

Weren't most of the Disney programs broadcast on Sunday nights?  I seem to remember the "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights when I was growing up.  -It was either that or "60 Minutes", so...  -I know that "TWWD" did float to other nights here and there, but isn't Sunday traditionally "family viewing" night.   -At least in my generation.  ;)

Disney's WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR did play on Sunday nights for years, but in the last decade, ABC has banished WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY to Saturday nights where all shows go to die.

Now, ABC plays a show under the Disney umbrella whereever it needs to.

And for those interested parties, there's a "open letter" to Joe Brooks over on talkinbroadway.com

Here's the opening and closing paragraphs:

Quote
An open letter to Joseph Brooks, whose new musical In My Life just opened at the Music Box.

Dear Mr. Brooks:

Congratulations! You've achieved something that few people ever will: You've written an original musical that's opened on Broadway. That takes a lot of determination, courage, and fortitude. I won't speculate on how it compares to making and scoring your own film, which you did with You Light Up My Life in 1977, but it's nonetheless a noteworthy accomplishment.

What's even more remarkable is that, as with your movie, you've done it all yourself: producing; directing; writing the music, lyrics, and libretto. Those are five hefty hats to wear - many of musical theatre's most respected talents never attempted so much. Lyricists have written musical books, composers have written lyrics, and some brave souls have written everything. But even they generally stop there, because they realize how vital collaboration is in the creation of great musicals.

After all, even the best writers need someone to help shape the material and provide an outsider's perspective. A writer can easily get trapped in his own little world, especially if he's directing his own work, and not realize what he's doing that's preventing his vision from being adequately communicated to the audience. In short, he needs someone to say "no" every once in a while.

And, Mr. Brooks, as you have apparently not been so blessed during the creative process of In My Life, I'm going to do that for you now.

<<<CUT>>>

I must be honest with you, though: I doubt In My Life will find the success those shows have. But whatever happens, you've likely written the weirdest Broadway musical that most people will ever see. Not the worst, mind you, or even the worst this season - Lennon and The Blonde in the Thunderbird have lowered that bar farther than you could ever reach. But you still have a lot to learn, though please, don't lose your passion or individuality. We're in desperate need of them right now.

Regardless, welcome to Broadway, Mr. Brooks, and feel free to come back again. But do us - and yourself - a favor: Don't return alone.
