Well, you've read the notes, the notes were mindless, and now it is time for you to post until the mindless cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEFERENCE!
-
CDs have been ordered!
-
I also added them to CastAlbums.org (https://castalbums.org/): Cole Porter Revisited (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Cole-Porter-Revisited-1964-Various-Artists/7021#69638) and Unpublished Cole Porter Volume II (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Unpublished-Cole-Porter-1969-Various-Artists/7309#69639). ;D
-
And now, I must be off to bed. I need to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for my online union meeting this afternoon. :D
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a bad night of sleep. I was up too many times, the worst being an interval around 12:30 of lying on my back and doing leg stretching exercises to get my legs to relax and stop cramping. Faithful Thatch stayed with me through the ordeal.
-
I had a very strange dream that I was riding a bus with former DR Ben down Main Street in Middletown, Ohio. We were going to the new offices of the Middletown Journal at the corner of Main Street and First Avenue. For some reason on the bus ride Ben and I were sitting in different sections of the bus. I was in the back and my walker kept getting hung up on things. I was wearing the pajamas I wear around the apartment these days when I don't have to step out, and I had top pull my pants up amd I missed the bus stop. The next stop was the McCoy Loeffler funeral hime at First Avenue and Verity Parkway, so I struggled with my walker and raced back to Main Street, where Ben was waiting for me on the porch of the building, which incidentally was the former office of my optometrist Dr Nesbit, who gave me my first pair of glasses when I was around seven years old.
It turns out for some reason the Middletown Journal and Radio station WPFB were presenting the first viewing in 50 years or more of a televised version of Alice in Wonderland, and we were there as some sort of press corp.
-
The Middletown Journal offices were never at the corner of First Avenue and Main Street. When I left Middletown in 1979, they were at Broad Street and First Avenue, and McCoy Loeffer was originally at Broad Street and First Avenue. They later moved to Grand Avenue in the 1960s.
-
DR singdaw, I loved the photo of Yeager, you and the others. Have you thought about fostering again?
-
I'm happy to know our DR TCB is okay. I called him late yesterday afternoon and left a message.
-
Good morning, everyone.
-
I have absolutely nothing planned for the day. And I like it that way.
-
Kritzerland never sold Levi on Blu Ray, did they? I'm thinking not.
-
A search of Kritzerland.com says no. This must be a director's perk. :)
-
Start the day off with a smile - with some sun bread!
-
I am sorry about your garden, DR John G.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I wish I could remember last night's dream with the clarity that DR Elmore remembered his. There was SOMETHING about it worth mulling over -- in fact, I believe this is one that I awoke from and was actually willing to slip back into if I got back to sleep -- but all I have come up with so far is the outer shell and none of the meat.
-
And I, for one, simply cannot believe that two months of the year are suddenly over.
Two months.
Weren't we just doing Christmas and New Year's?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am sorry about your garden, DR John G.
Thanks. It will rise again. The forecast was revised again and one night was forecast as being in the 30s. Don't know if I have to bring in everything again, but the pineapples do need to come in.
-
All three of the Hollywood Blvd. theaters BK researched yesterday are ones that I knew under their later names:
Actually, I think the New View was still called that when I moved there. Was it called anything else before becoming a Pussycat?
The Academy was my Holly, which I remember (correctly, I hope) for a few oddball things: The Groove Tube in 1974 (which coincidentally I commented on in the Home Theater Forum yesterday because a Blu-ray is being released), and that's where Caligula settled in for an extended run.
The Admiral was my Vine. I'm thinking that's where Sisters opened in my first year there. I'm sorry to say my level of accuracy in remembering these is not what BK's is.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished, and the bed is next. I don't like to vacuum on weekends before 10:00 and after 9:00 on weekdays to avoid disturbing my neighbopr Pixie below me.
-
Anyone planning to watch the Golden Globes tonight?
-
The other theater in that stretch playing the name game was the Iris (?) which I knew as the Fox, and down the street, the Loew's Paramount which is now El Capitan.
-
DR Jrand70, that return was mighty fast! My accountant sent my State return electronically on the 24th, and the $675 I owed was deducted from my account on Friday. I hope the IRS is that quick with my refund.
-
Anyone planning to watch the Golden Globes tonight?
I stopped caring about awards shows - except for the Tonys - some time ago.
-
Never mind that I don't know a single movie released in the past year -- I don't think the Golden Globes can be much fun even to gawk at without everyone there in one room getting drunk. As of several years ago, at least, that was still a watchable sport during which much hilarity could ensue.
-
Yep
-
TWO!!
-
I'm dancing my a** off.
-
I just had a nice Mexican-ish breakfast of leftover rice and beans, a good sized helping that should stick to my ribs for a while.
-
Question for BK:
When you research movies and theaters, do you go through just the Sunday Calendar for each week, or do you check other individual days? I'm guessing that for some revival houses and neighborhood showings it'll be necessary to include the latter. I just know that the couple of times I've gotten into this, the L.A. Times and Calendar are such a monster that I eventually hit a wall and have to stop. It's remarkably time consuming - unless perhaps you've devised shortcuts.
-
Good morning!
-
Happy to see TCB posted yesterday.
-
CDs ordered.
-
Fast refund vibes for DR ELMORE and everyone!
-
Nice movie facts in the notes.
-
It is very pleasant outdoors today, the window in the computer room is open and Barnum is broadcasting his songs to the neighborhood.
-
Well.....I have settled on a new vocation.
I will offer to sing the national anthem at Republican events around the state.....I guess ANYBODY can be chosen.
-
True
-
And when Mozart was my age...
-
DR John G. --I have to ask this because I'm still learning my way around Fellini -- which of his films that aren't included in the Criterion set do you think are nevertheless essential?
-
ChasSmith, I wanted City of Women and Orchestra Rehearsal in there as well as La Voce de la Luna, his last flick. I can’t watch Fellini Casanova, but it did win Oscars. I have Ginger and Fred, but I’d probably put it on the list. I think Kino Lorber has the rights to all of those.
-
I am enjoying that link way more than I should be.
-
There's a brand new Broadway Radio Show up on this site...a fun chat with KYLE TAYLOR PARKER (In The Heights, Kinky Boots and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) about his new album BROADWAY SOUL, VOL. 2. A great collection of show tunes done in classic Soul/R&B style.
Check out the radio show here:

-
Thank you, DR Donald.
-
This happens to me...
-
For an unscheduled day, I've accomplished several things.
Watched an episode of The Carol Burnett Show.
Cooked some dried beans.
Did some laundry.
Started my taxes.
I think there will be a nap on schedule for this afternoon.
-
Gratuitous Post #50!
-
I just made shakshuka.
-
That's a Magrebi dish with a tomato stew at the base, then you break eggs on the top and bake them in.
-
The first recipe I had was lousy. it didn't tell you when to include several ingredients or how to treat the eggs. So, I started in a saucepan, like the recipe said, but it should have said oven proof, because you need to bake the eggs. So, I had to heat the oven, remove the eggs, transfer the sauce to the cast-iron skillet and then put the eggs back in. It wasn't perhaps as pretty as the photos, but the taste is very good.
-
That sounds wonderful, DR John G.
-
Starting to watch The Parallax View.
-
I just improvised a hummus with some of the cooked garbanzos. I didn't have tahini, so I used peanut butter. I didn't have any garlic, so I used garlic powder. In spite of itself, it's not too bad!
-
And I think it's time for another grocery order!
-
And a shave.
-
Not necessarily in that order.
-
THREE!!!

Loved The Parallax View. I'm surprised it got no Oscar nominations and not much love at the time. Gordon Willis' cinematography is just perfect. It was certainly relevant in the aftermath of the assassinations of the Kennedys, but it is also sadly all too relevant in the days of QAnon, etc.

This was a bad Fancy Feast night. All three cats rebelled and refused top eat their dinners. Well, as Marie Antoinette would say, let them eat kibble.
-
That's amazing. I'm trying remember back to when we had three (5+ years ago), if that ever happened. I don't think so.
-
Email received today --
Subj: Huge_Tummy
I didn't read further. That much is bad enough. How do they know??

Bastards!

Got a pot of Sweet Potato-Lentil Soup on the stove. Smells wonderful with lemon juice and fresh ginger in it. High hopes.
-
Starting to watch Un ballo en maschera. Never seen it. Liking the music a lot so far.

If I may ask, whatever happened to DR Ben?
-
Good Afternoon - been home from church, Target and have the first 2 of 4 loads of laundry in. I have 2nd Trimester grades to enter (all P's, very easy) and some cleaning up to do in the apartment.
-
Three nice basketball games this afternoon.
-
DR Jane as of now I am not taking my neighbor for his covid test. The set-up to sign up is very good. And there are a lot of appointments open. But it's only for 80+ right now. It should hopefully open to 70 soon.
-
Oh I certainly won't be watching the golden Globe Awards.....they were the second to fall off my list a few years ago.....the Grammy Awards went first......
-

I thought maybe taking someone older & unrelated would increase your chances of getting gifted the vaccination.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine and a half hours of needed sleep.
-
I had to have a telephonic conversation right away, which was fine, and then I went next door and we entered the corrections for the book and now I'll give it a final skim to make sure we got everything and then his part of this is done.
-
Just ordered a Chinese chicken salad for food. Should be here in forty minutes, then I'll relax until the Zoom meet and greet.

I tried doing the Sunday Calendar thing but it was way too unwieldy for me. When searching anything pre-70s, I go right to Wednesday, which was when movies opened back then. I just skip to each Wednesday and that makes it pretty easy. Post-70s, Fridays.
-
Waiting for food - usually doesn't take this long from Stanley's, which is literally five minutes away.
-
Tuning in to a concert of harp vs. harp. One is autoharp. It's fun.
-
It has been a beautiful day here. The high was 58 degrees and the sunset was lovely.
-
Good night, everyone.
-
There must have been some Parallax in the air today, because I watched it, too, this evening.
So damned satisfying after wanting for years to see it again. The second half gets a little slippery, but I’ll be back for more in the coming days. The cast is incredible, and holy cow, what an intense role for Paula Prentiss.
The only extra I’ve watched is the short thing with Alex Cox which had me dumbfounded. It’s one of the best 15-minute takes on “conspiracy” issues of the 60s I’ve heard, even including a stunning heretofore unknown (to me) wrinkle relating to the JFK assassination.

That Kilgallen bit? Yup. Pretty sobering anecdote.
-
Well, I loved most every minute of Act 1 and Act 3 of Un Ballo in maschera. Act 2 had its moments, but the drama was a little better than the music. Still, the Met's production and especially baritone Dmiti Hvorostovsky were wonderful. The orchestra was really worked up into a lather. I'm going to try to find some other productions online for a comparison.
-
Well, there are thunderstorms in the forecast. I hope the power stays on.
-
More for the sleep mask than for the heat. It's still around 70 degrees.
-
Onward
-
Four!
-
I originally typed five.
-
wishful thinking.
-
But I must go.
-
Good night, all.
-
Zoom meet and greet went very well. I think this will be fun.
-
Went and got a chocolate chip muffin for my evening repast.
-
Why not?
-
No one said I couldn't.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Listening to some Dvorak.
-
More for the sleep mask than for the heat. It's still around 70 degrees.
I hope the power stayed on.
-
Well, my Zoom union meeting this afternoon went pretty well.
-
Questions were asked.
-
Questions were answered.
-
Information was given and taken.
-
Nothing revelatory was revealed.
-
It was informative, but not revelatory.
-
It's all good. :)
-
About five minutes before the meeting was supposed to start, my friend Margo texted me, asking if I had time to help her with an invoice that she needed to create, and if I wanted to have lunch at her place...and if I could pick it up before I came over. ;)
-
I had helped her with this invoice thing a couple of years ago. She had done some phone interviews for her friend who owns a consulting firm, so Margo just needed to create and itemize an invoice of her time.
-
Gratuitous Post #111!!
-
Actually, we just updated the invoice that she had submitted last time. It was saved in Google Sheets with her login, so it was quite simple to update it with the new information.
-
She paid me for her meal (I got burgers at the local Westside Tavern), and she'll take me out at a later date and pay for my meal then. Fine with me. :)
-
Page four is most unseemly, but I guess Tom has other things going on in his life right now.
-
What can one do?
-
But keep on keeping on.
-
I, for example, am keeping on.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I haven't heard much about the Golden Globes.
-
I suppose that's fine.
-
At long last page five.
-
Only 498 posts to a major milestone.
-
Can that happen this evening?
-
Where are my cheerleaders?
-
I haven't heard much about the Golden Globes.
I recorded them in case my niece wanted to watch them, but I haven't seen much of anything that was even nominated.
-
Only 498 posts to a major milestone.
PUUUUUUSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
-
Well.....I have settled on a new vocation.
I will offer to sing the national anthem at Republican events around the state.....I guess ANYBODY can be chosen.
OMG! That definitely was horrible!
-
Only 498 posts to a major milestone.
PUUUUUUSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
After this post (my 99,334th), I'm only 666 posts until a major milestone!
-
And speaking of 666, my friend Margo paid me in $2 bills (on purpose, even!) and the serial number of one of the bills actually ends in 666. :o
;)
-
