I just had a nice Mexican-ish breakfast of leftover rice and beans, a good sized helping that should stick to my ribs for a while.

Question for BK:

When you research movies and theaters, do you go through just the Sunday Calendar for each week, or do you check other individual days? I'm guessing that for some revival houses and neighborhood showings it'll be necessary to include the latter. I just know that the couple of times I've gotten into this, the L.A. Times and Calendar are such a monster that I eventually hit a wall and have to stop. It's remarkably time consuming - unless perhaps you've devised shortcuts.

It is very pleasant outdoors today, the window in the computer room is open and Barnum is broadcasting his songs to the neighborhood.

DR John G. --I have to ask this because I'm still learning my way around Fellini -- which of his films that aren't included in the Criterion set do you think are nevertheless essential?

ChasSmith, I wanted City of Women and Orchestra Rehearsal in there as well as La Voce de la Luna, his last flick. I can’t watch Fellini Casanova, but it did win Oscars. I have Ginger and Fred, but I’d probably put it on the list. I think Kino Lorber has the rights to all of those.

There's a brand new Broadway Radio Show up on this site...a fun chat with KYLE TAYLOR PARKER (In The Heights, Kinky Boots and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) about his new album BROADWAY SOUL, VOL. 2.  A great collection of show tunes done in classic Soul/R&B style.

Check out the radio show here:

For an unscheduled day, I've accomplished several things.

Watched an episode of The Carol Burnett Show.
Cooked some dried beans.
Did some laundry.
Started my taxes.

I think there will be a nap on schedule for this afternoon.

That's a Magrebi dish with a tomato stew at the base, then you break eggs on the top and bake them in.

The first recipe I had was lousy. it didn't tell you when to include several ingredients or how to treat the eggs. So, I started in a saucepan, like the recipe said, but it should have said oven proof, because you need to bake the eggs. So, I had to heat the oven, remove the eggs, transfer the sauce to the cast-iron skillet and then put the eggs back in. It wasn't perhaps as pretty as the photos, but the taste is very good.

I just improvised a hummus with some of the cooked garbanzos.  I didn't have tahini, so I used peanut butter. I didn't have any garlic, so I used garlic powder. In spite of itself, it's not too bad!
