Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up to date and up to the minute, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're on their way, just not home.
-
And the word of the day is: WELKIN!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Hey! I play piano too!
-
And I still have yet to see Dino's AFM membership card! Are his dues current?
-
I looked up Michael's IBDB listing, DR JOSE, and found the great connection. Thanks so much.
I am sure Miss Vickie will be pleased.....I will give her the program on the opening night of THE SUNSHINE BOYS....
-
I sent you a PM DR DAKOTACELT. :)
-
I think the cows are lost.
-
They want their tickets to A COWRUS LINE....the new moosical that is udderly delightful
-
Dickie: Where are we going?
Stymie: I don't know. But we're on our way!
-
I believe we saw Amy Bodnar in the tour of Scarlet Pimpernel. DR Sandra will correct me if I am wrong.
TOD: Sandra packed me a nice bunch of CDs to listen today: Lucky Stiff, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, Forbidden Broadway (the one with Lion King and Gagtime).
-
In any case...
I got to the New Amsterdam Theatre, the home of Mary Poppins, around 7:30. I met up with Brad, the conductor, in his dressing room, and some orchestra and cast members who I know happened to know came by while I was sitting in there... "Yeah, Jose's gonna learn Kristen's book, and, if I can twist his arm, he'll be conducting the show soon too."
So, I guess that means I'll be conducting soon. :)
*We did talk about it a bit after the show. The plan right now is for me to cover the children's rehearsals next month, then start covering the Keyboard 2 book right after that. Then once I have the show "in my bones", I'll get on the podium.
Color me HAPPY! :)
-
Well, I must admit I am indeed stymied by the events of the day.
-
DRJOSE....that is such wonderful wonderful news.
And it couldn't happen to a more deserving individual!!!
-
Great news, DR Jose!
-
And as I suspected/heard/feared, the piano parts for Mary Poppins have a lot of notes. A LOT. The Key 1 book really is like a concerto, and the Key 2 book has it's share of exposed solos too.
What's really cool is that they are using pianos with built-in MIDI triggers - or something like that. I forget what their proper name is. Basically, we're playing on a real piano: Key 1 is a grand piano, Key 2 is a full upright. However, there's a lever that mutes the "live" piano action, but still allows the piano keyboard to be played, but instead of the strings sounding, the hammers triggers MIDI controllers, a.k.a. other sounds. So, the piano can end up "sounding" like a theremin, a celeste, a harp, etc. And it can also be set-up to play the "live" piano and a MIDI generated sound at the same time. Wicked and Curtains use the same set-up, however, I believe Mary Poppins is the only one with a grand piano in the pit.
In short, I have some practicing to do over the next couple of weeks. But it will be nice playing on a real, weighted action, piano keyboard.
-
FJL - What events of the day - the ones we talked about or other events?
-
Aw, shucks. Thanks!
*Needless to say, today was a perfect start to my birthday weekend.
-
*And as for the Aladdin auditions... Once we got down to the finalists, after we had sang and read them all, the final part of the audition was a photo of the potential Aladdins. Without their shirts on. ;D
-
Did you sneak out a copy of said photo, Jose?
-
Did you sneak out a copy of said photo, Jose?
Photos - each potential Aladdin was photographed individually.
Alas, I did not sneak any photos out. But I do have a good memory. 8)
-
Bk - There's several things, including something at the tax office (one of the top managers is apparently leaving on August 31, which will make my workload heavier just as rehearsals are starting), but a lot's happened in one 24-hour period.

As for the Friday Media Check...
The only CD I've been listening to "actively" (other than what my iPod ends up shuffling to) is Eldar's "re-imagination". I am in love with this CD, and I'm still awed by Eldar's talent.
In fact, I gave a copy to Brad, the conductor of Mary Poppins, and he, too, has been listening to the CD almost exclusively the past couple of days. He was playing it in his dressing room during intermission, and many a cast member came by asking who was playing.
*And his version of "Take the A-Train" on one of his previous CDs is ASTOUNDING!
-
Is that Eldar the Younger?
-
Time to hit the hay.....
-
Milla performs from her Kritzerland CD at the Lincoln Center Barnes and Noble on Wed. Sept. 5. BK is of course mentioned in the article:

Jose, that's so cool about the conducting gig!! Congratulations! ;D

I must apologize about my posting from yesterday. (Since deleted)
It was meant to be a bit of humor, that in retrospect was nice and I am humbled by it.
I assumed it was Miss Mayes, but I now realize I was incorrect. I have nothing against her. I woulld still go to see her when she comes to Florida. I have seen her perform several times and she is great.
So no more assumptions and lame attempts at humor on this board.
-
Hope you enjoy Eldar, DR George.
He's at the Blue Note here in NYC next week. He's playing a couple of dates with another performer, but he'll be going solo his final day in town, so I think I may try to see him twice. -And it turns out I know his record producer, so... :)

I am going to see Jeff Harnar tonight at The Colony Hotel.
No lame jokes.

Hey HHWers ~ Has anyone had experience making a reel -- like about how long should a reel run that is sent to an agent/agency (average total length) and then about how long should each of the individual clips run? What does an agency look for in a reel?

Christopher Welkin -- I've got a fever for more cow bell
Lawrence Welkin -- A-one-a, a-two-a
You're welkin!
-
Great news on the progress of The Brain. I am especially pleased about adding harmonies for the ensemble.
-
DR JRand56: I'm sorry you weren't offered a role. :(

DR BlingBling ~ You're posting way past your bedtime! Better get your beauty sleep!
-
DR Cillaliz: GLAD you are feeling better! :)
-
Doesn't eldar accompany Nathan Gunn on one track of his new CD?
Yes, he does. He's on two tracks actually. One track he's the sole accompanist, and on another he's with a backing quartet.
-
Here comes the welkin wagon!
-
*And both albums are produced by the same person, David Lai. - Who used to be the conductor for Phantom of the Opera for a long time, but now he's something like the Musical Supervisor/Consultant.

I've not met DR Cason yet, but he seems remarkably mature. You must have done a great job of raising him right!
-
Well... I'm off tomorrow, and I really don't want to sleep through most of it... Even though, after the past two weeks of work, I could easily sleep till Noon if I wanted to. Instead, I believe I shall be meeting DR Jason in SoHo for some shopping, lunch and a movie. Although, maybe not necessarily in that order.
*Of course, I should stay here and clean the apartment tomorrow, but... I can always clean on Saturday. ;)
Goodnight.

Well, carry on, Dear Ones. The pillow beckons.

For those that bought or have rented the current box set of MGM muiscals. I have a question.
The ones that were shot in three strip technicolor were they remastered using the same process that they did for The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Meet Me In St. Louis and others?
Is Royal Wedding and Words and Music (or was it Till The Clouds Roll By) out of Public Domain hell?

Topic of the Day (just to start): Media Check!
I just finished watching the June 21st episode of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." It was quite emotional. Now, I'm going to watch the June 28th episode...which is the last episode...ever, I think.

I've not met DR Cason yet, but he seems remarkably mature. You must have done a great job of raising him right!
I think that it's helped that he's been out in LA-LA-Land on his own for three years -- if he can handle LA, I guess he can handle NYC. He's a pretty good egg, so DH and I will keep him! Thank you for the compliment, but you always question some of the things you do and don't do with them -- he's our only one so I wasn't sure what the heck I was doing most of the time -- still don't (this parenting stuff can be tough and confusing), but I think the main thing is to give them lots of love. That's the only parenting advice I know -- just love 'em love 'em, love 'em and all the parenting mistakes will come out in the wash....My folks were very loving, so I had good teachers in that respect.
-
Well, I'm signing off for the night. I'm going to watch the rest of this last episode of "Studio 60" then get some sleep. Good night, all!

I also had a dream last night. Well more of a nightmare
This is how it went
I dreamed last night I got on the boat to heaven
And by some chance I had brought my dice along
And there I stood
And I hollered "Someone fade me"
But the passengers, they knew right from wrong.
For the people all said sit down, sit down, you're rockin' the boat
And as I laughed at those passengers to heaven
A great big wave came and washed me over board!
And as I sank And I hollered "someone save me!"
That's the moment I woke up Thank the lord

Michael S thanks for the info on the Gwen Verdon CD. A friend of ours has the vinyl and just last year burned it to CD because he thought it would never, ever (his words) end up on CD.
-
I'm listening to Playbill On-Line and they are playing I've Got Your Number from the BK-produced cast recording of Little Me w/Faith Prince and Michael Park.
-
The begathon is over on Channel 21 so they are back to broadcasting The Vicar of Dibley, although they have run the shows out of order and saved all the 1 hour and special episodes till the end. In two weeks the cycle will begin again and perhaps they will be run in the correct order (I know, I know, it's geeky of me but I've been called worse).
-
I have a bowl to wash and a foundation to index (and I have to come to the office tomorrow) so I'm outta here for now.

But before I go, good morning to our fearless morning (evening) men, Larry and Tom

Good morning, all! I have a date with my barber at 9:30, then a social gathering at The Brain Trust; I left my scores and schedules at the rehearsal yesterday and our stage manager Rachel is looking after them for me. It was great to see BJ and Merrill yesterday, and I met Barry Pearl (The Brain) and the MD Larry Goldberg, who's quite good.
BK, it's my residual memory that Richard Binder came to the EPAs, and he was the person I thought was a possible Fred when I sent you all of the auditioning headshots. My memory is that I thought we had several choices for Rod, a couple for General Mills, several ensemble folk, and only one possible Fred. I remember the only possible Joyce we saw that day was Theresa Finamore.

Eldar the Magnificent? I have no idea, but now will have to do some investigating.

Good morning, one and all. My humblest apologies for being away from HHW for my entire birthday celebration. I did actually have a couple of ham chunks for lunch yesterday.
My sincere thanks to BK, DakotaCelt, Michael S, Miss Patti, FJL, George, Slingblade, Tomovoz, Ginny, elmore3003, Ben, Dear Reader Laura, Jeanne, Edisaurus, Jennifer, MBarnum, Matt H., Ron Pulliam, Jrand56(soon to be 57), S. No, Ultra-Resolution was not used on any of the discs in the MGM musical box. It's a very expensive process and is only used on what Warners considers the gems of its collection. They're using it on AN AMERICAN IN PARIS' new transfer and on the restored QUO VADIS.
With the release of ROYAL WEDDING (and previously TIL THE CLOUDS ROL BY), Warners has given us versions that make the previous PD version obsolete.

I think I forgot to mention last night that I did watch MAD MEN at 10 p.m. An excellent episode, especially a sequence where the secretaries in the office were brought into a room to sample lipsticks while the men of the ad agency watched them from behind one-way glass and commented on the various women. Very revealing of both sides of the human equation.

Tonight will be new episodes of MONK and PSYCH, but I won't be watching them "live."

Why, HHW itself, of course! ;)

Last night, my accompanist (Matt Brown) and I got together for a nearly three hour session, in which we attempted to nail the twenty or so songs constituting a new cabaret. We ate no ham chunks. We did however, sans music, do an impromptu "I Can't Help Falling In Love" (key of E-flat) which we may just add to this little cabaret. Last night was the first time I tried to sing all of these songs without looking at lyric pages or sheet music, with many new lyrics made up on the spot. :-[
I believe that the hardest piece, memory wise, that we're working on is Rodgers & Hammerstien's "I Am Going to Like it Here," which just goes off in its own directions lyrically and melody-wise. The melody I've got, it's just those darned words. . . :-\
Following the get-together, I watched a most excellent film on dvd, entitled, THE HONEYMOON KILLERS. Criterion did a great job with the film, which has a remarkable performance by Shirley Stoler and a compelling performance from Tony LoBianca. Based on a true 1940s series of murders, the film is starkly photographed in black and white, features a score from Gustave Mahler (!) and is just plainly one of the best films of the late 1960s early 1970s. I'm glad that I finally caught up with it. Now, I'll also seek out DEEP CRIMSON and LONELY HEARTS which are both based on the same true tale.
Then, I must have slept in a bad position, for I have a major muscular pain in my neck, which a massaging showerhead somewhat relieved, and which, hopefully, a Tiger Balm patch will alleviate while I'm working.
-
Why, yes, it is. There is a matching "wife" sculpture on the other side of the atrium lobby. There's nothing to rub there, but a lot of people opt for the rear-view photo opportunity.
Nothing to rub?? Never mind. I won't go there.

Someone on a theater chat board just saw fit to comment on a second posting of our press release (have no idea why it was there again, but always happy to see it) - mind you, there was also a second posting of the Such Good Friends release right below ours. He didn't comment on that so it's an LA person with an agenda - he says he saw the show and it was "marginally entertaining". That's fine, but why comment with "we've seen this press release why do you keep posting it" - twice doesn't mean they keep posting it, but if they want to, who am I to say boo? This is why once we get near performances, I will NOT be visiting these chat boards - too many people with agendas who are just waiting. And since I was at the show every night in LA, and I know the LA people who post on the board I know who this is - and if he does it again, I'll just let everyone else know. And it's funny that he didn't post after he actually saw the show.
-
I shall now be on my way to our meet and greet/read-through/rehearsal, after which I shall return.

I'm waiting for the tub-resurfacing guy to show up and resurface the bathtub. He didn't sound too organized on the phone. Let's hope it goes well. Replacing the tub and shower just isn't an option.

DR Cillaliz, re: BIG BROTHER
No, i don't consider howie anything like dick donato. Howie was a goof, who was occasionally mean. Yes a couple of times he was a bully. But he taunted whats-her-name. Dick has abused and threatened a bunch of people. Dick is way more abusive than howie.

Otherwise, Thanks for the continued Congrats regarding my potential conducting duties over at Mary Poppins. I'd say the earliest I'd ever get on the podium would not be until sometime in November, and, frankly, I don't think I'd be comfortable getting on the podium - with a stick in my hand - until sometime in November. Late November.
However, after observing last night, from my stand point at least, it would be an easier show for me to conduct than it would be to play. There are just a LOT of notes in the Keyboard 2 book - I don't even want to think of tackling the Key 1 book at all right now - and having to coordinate the MIDI piano technology is quite the feat in itself. But that's where I'll have to start off. *And, thankfully, by playing the rehearsal book, that should make learning the Key 2 book a little easier. In the meantime, I'll have to brush up my scales and arpeggios.
But conducting the show is by no means an easy feat. With all the dance sections in the show, there's a lot of tempos that have to be locked into my body. Additionally, there's a ton of rubato - give and take of the tempo - throughout most of the musical numbers in the show. And there's a lot of music.
I'd have to say it would be one of those situations where if I were called in an emergency situation to conduct the show sooner than later - say, like tomorrow (which I'm not) - that that would be "easier" to do than conducting the show a few weeks from now. I'd just have no time to be scared. Well, I would be, but I seem to have a knack for dealing with last-minute musical emergencies. There's just no time to think of the (possible) mistakes I could make.
-Does that make sense?
-
Tub-resurfacing wasn't on my list. It's one of those things that just popped up while Matt and I were trying to take care of all the things that are actually ON the list.
Sigh. I'll be glad when all this is done.
-
-Does that make sense?
In a word: YES.
However, there's no remedy for any young children sitting in the front row and peering into the pit, sighting THE ENABLER holding a stick. ;)

td - I like "new lyrics". Especially if someone can still manage to make them rhyme. ;)

DR Cillaliz, yes in Canada we get all the major US stations (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC...). The only channels we don't get are HBO (although if you buy the movie network here they carry those shows), US Bravo (Canadian bravo has their own list of shows) and channels like that.
So if i remember i will be watching the POWER of 10 on tuesday (although i actually think this show is also carried on a canadian station).
I am very curious to see who won. You'd think in a one on one it would be daniele. But amber was mentioning talking to her cousin. So she might have been the one of the two to go forward.
Actually if it is between these two, i hope amber actually gets some money (for her daughter).

Greetings from my new cubible! There's still a lot of stuff to move, but my phone and computer are all set up and operational.

The tub-resurfacing guy came and went. He said the tub had had a previous repair and he couldn't do a full resurface. He did some sanding and applied a solvent. $100 instead of $300, but it DOESN'T look like new. Glad to save the $200--just hope that the peeling problem doesn't return. (It's an acrylic tub and shower.)

Greetings from my new cubible!

Because you don't want to go through the hell that DRs Laura and Sandra went through? ;)
I've been through plenty of hell on this house already. About twelve years ago a painter started a fire, which damaged one corner of the house, all three floors. It took forever to get it all fixed, largely because of the lack of professionalism and commitment from so many in the building trades. I wish I'd known Marvelous Matt then!
The master bath is on the second floor and was part of an addition put in by the previous owners. The existing tub and shower COULD be torn out, but getting a new unit--or worse, a porcelain tub--up a narrow, twisty staircase wouldn't be easy. And, of course, that would mean lots of patching. I'm trying to FINISH this house! No new projects! That's why it's not an option. Jeanne just couldn't handle it at this point. ;)
-
I'm heading downstairs now myself. SInce I have company coming to visit later today, I need to mop the kitchen floor now since there won't be opportunity to do so later.
WBBL.

That was what I ran into. Not from the current workers, but from past workmen.
People often say to me, "Ask <current contractor> if he knows someone." Well, I ask and ask. The guys who I know who are good, such as Matt, usually reply that they don't know anyone. Many of these guys could use a helper, but can't find anyone they're happy with, either. They encounter the same problems that I do. I am soooo glad I found Matt!!

Congrats Jose!!!!
Best wishes!

Howie taunted "April" -- whom he dubbed "Busto" -- the blond whow treasured her dog more than her husband:
"Say anything you want about my husband," she bawled, "but don't talk about my dog!" Waaaaaaahhhhh!
April was a malicious, lying and backstabbing gossip who DESERVED everything Howie did and MORE! IMO, of course. ;D
-
-Does that make sense?
yes,... You have to think several bars and sections ahead to keep up to pace and the show on track...
That said...
You will do an excellent job!
-
I am very curious to see who won. You'd think in a one on one it would be daniele. But amber was mentioning talking to her cousin. So she might have been the one of the two to go forward.
You may be correct. Whoever wins the showdown gets to have a family member on the set to advise them. That said, both of them would have had someone standing by. It also could mean that Amber got to chat with her cousin while Daniele played however many rounds she could.

Yes, indeed:

"marginally entertaining"???? BK, that L.A. person was obviously not seeing THE BRAIN. He/she must have gone to the wrong theater.
I am envious of all of those who will be getting to see the NY version of The Brain! And I will want to hear how Barry Pearl does as the titled character as opposed to how Egbert played the role...I sure hope Egbert is moving towards some voice work...that guy has got some talent!
Glad B.J. (fellow Oregonian!) arrived safe and sound and I hope he has a great time in NYC!

I believe that the hardest piece, memory wise, that we're working on is Rodgers & Hammerstien's "I Am Going to Like it Here," which just goes off in its own directions lyrically and melody-wise. The melody I've got, it's just those darned words. . . :-\
You could always substitute the updated version from ANNIE

Congrats Bk on being in NYC.This AM's car CD enroute to work, the OBC of WONDERFUL TOWN(I still prefer the TV cast with ROZ> DVD, watched the UK version of QUEER AS FOLK , which I've seen bits and pieces of the usa version on cable re-runs. The Brian charcter on that had a diff. name in the UK and was played by Aiden Gillen, recently seen as Mayor Tommy Carcetti on THE WIRE. The character was tough-when his 9 year old nephew tried to blackmail him, he gave the kid a swirly. Followed that with the Student Prince, with Robson Green, who does lots of UK TV, but never shows up on the big screen. I don't know why, he's very good.

I know the editor---I have mentioned him here before because he's the son of Raymond Scott and edited the movie HAIR as well as WOODSTOCK. THE HONEYMOON KILLERS was his first big film.
I'll pass on your kudos!
I saw this years ago but didn't remember the Mahler score! How did I miss that??

For DR Vixmom and any other DRs: I went today to the site you had posted about approximately a week back [www.tvboxset.com] to purchase the complete Carol Burnett Show on DVD - bootleg, of course - and found it had been removed from their listings.
Further research on the Internet revealed that there are many complaints against this site, and many claims of fraud.
Buyer beware! Sometimes we want these unavailable things too much!

DR DearReaderLaura, do we get a photo of you sitting in the rain, eating your pancakes? :)
My pancake quote was from some whiny woman we happened upon years ago while camping. There was a community pancake breakfast, and all the seats under the gazebo were taken. She was trying to whine someone out of a seat (me, I think.) You could tell by the weary expressions on her family members' faces that they were likely to leave her behind in the not-too-distant future. Now whenever anyone in our family gets whiny, we just quote her, and we all laugh and laugh.
If BK was still in LA, we'd be having pancakes this morning at DuPar's. But I'll go to Miss Doughnuts instead.

The final indignity....Sacco and Venzetti were stuffed in my mailbox this morning.

On the business end, the fans aren't what decides...it's whoever "owns" the properties that make the decisions.

Today's exciting run-on sentence in emai from Nigeria department:
Dear after going through your profile i decided to contact you for friendship and assistace I am Miss Tersy Jabie the only child of late chief and Mrs Jabie ,my father was poisoned to death by his business associates because of his wealth and during my fathers sickness he called me on his sick bed as his only child because my mother died when i was young and told me about the money($10.500.000) he deposited in a bank here in our country that it was because of this money he was poisoned that if he dies i shall look for some one whom i trust to help me transfer this money out of this our country to his account for investment purpose abroad while i will continue my education then the person will be managing the investment.Dear am soliciting your assistance to help me transfer this money out of this country for my life sake while i will come to meet you to continue my education in your country.
Maybe the writer's period key wasn't working. ;)
Seriously, I had a friend in college who wrote a term paper that was ALL ONE PARAGRAPH! Page after page, without a single indentation after the initial one. I was aghast! I told her, "Indent! Indent! Even if you don't know what a paragraph is, pretend that you do!"
She was Sue Lubin, a very talented girl musically, who used to write and record little songs, some of which made it to the Dr Dememto show. I admit I envy her musical talent. If anyone knows about her--where she is, what she's doing, etc--pls let me know.

Whew! My move is complete, except for a pile o' stuff that's probably going to be pitched. And the moving of one of the shelving sections from one side of my cubicle to the other.

Which is why many 18-19th century city homes have roof attachments to handle a block and tackle to raise things up to second/third story windows and haul them in that way!
der Brucer
Yes, my bank has one. I adore that sort of stuff. I think it was used more on commercial buildings than residences.
When I was moving in I soon learned that my bed wouldnt fit up the stairs. A friend used a crowbar to remove the parting bead (I think that's the corrct terminology) from my bedroom window, took out the sashes (the part of the window that holds the glass), and hoisted the bed up that way. I have since purchased a wonderful antique chest of drawers--same problem, same solution. I did have a carpenter modify the window so that now everything goes into place with screws rather than nails, since I will have to move out day, as well.

Strange man in my tub.

Back from a lovelier than lovely read-through and rehearsal and a little stop at Virgin (got two bossa nova CDs).
-
The read-through went better than I thought it would considering we were missing our Fred (which I read and sung) and our Yoni, and General Mills had to leave before the end of act one (welcome to NYMF). Lots o' laughs, all the new material worked really well. Our LA people, of course, already have a leg up, but our new Joyce is terrific and will be wonderful, General Mills got a huge laugh where there isn't even a laugh written, just by staring at someone, and our Rod is so quirky he got a laugh on every single line. Now if we can only find our Fred will be in very good shape indeed. Haven't heard a peep about our latest offer.
-
Our costume lady was there and took measurements - she's going to be great. Our design team was there and we just all had a really good time and it was even a little more than marginally entertaining. :)
-
This sounds very good indeed, bk!

TNT runs it weekdays at 7AM est...
http://www.tnt.tv/title/0,,334068,00.html
After the show was canceled there were two made for tv movies. Originally three were promised. The 3rd movie, which never happened, was to have an ending to the story. Kind of like THE FUGITIVE actually ended, THE PRETENDER also needs an ending.

They are starting to show the TNT show SAVING GRACE with holly hunter here (starting monday). That is another channel we do not get in Canada. They will be showing it on Showcase. Not sure if i will watch. But i'll probably record it if i remember.

Just as hot and miserably uncomfortable today as it has been all week. Running my various errands was not much fun.
-
And speaking of THE PRETENDER. I should have mentioned it is Jarod's little brother who is fantastic as Michael on the BURN NOTICE.
-
I finished episode 2 of HEROES as I ate a snack (saving my large meal of the day for supper tonight with my friend Gregg).
I then proceeded to watch four more episodes. All very entertaining, actually even more so now since I know who the characters are and I'm not plumbing the depths of my brain to try to make connections, remember who Sylar or Linderman is (at this point, they're still just names, no faces yet), and keep all the disjointed aspects of the various stories together.
This is one show that GREATLY benefits from multiple viewings as you see how well connected everything is. It didn't always seem so as I watched it during the regular season.
-
And speaking of THE PRETENDER. I should have mentioned it is Jarod's little brother who is fantastic as Michael on the BURN NOTICE.
Jeffrey Donovan who plays Michael is one of the "coolest" customers starring in any TV series at the moment. I love his inflappability.

In fact, I ended my afternoon viewing by watching last night's BURN NOTICE. It was a wonderful episode, funny and exciting, and SO cleverly written, and that penultimate scene was a BIG SHOCK!

I didn't go to that particular site, but last year I ordered two, count 'em TWO copies of what was supposed to be the complete series to "The Banana Splits" (one for me and one for my sister)...I never got them. But they got my money. :'( And shortly thereafer, the website also disappeared. >:(

CLIVE JAMES (http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~johnston/poetry/bookofmyenemy.html)
'The Book of my Enemy Has Been Remaindered'
The book of my enemy has been remaindered
And I am pleased.
In vast quantities it has been remaindered
Like a van-load of counterfeit that has been seized
And sits in piles in a police warehouse,
My enemy's much-prized effort sits in piles
In the kind of bookshop where remaindering occurs.
Great, square stacks of rejected books and, between them, aisles
One passes down reflecting on life's vanities,
Pausing to remember all those thoughtful reviews
Lavished to no avail upon one's enemy's book --
For behold, here is that book
Among these ranks and banks of duds,
These ponderous and seeminly irreducible cairns
Of complete stiffs.
The book of my enemy has been remaindered
And I rejoice.
It has gone with bowed head like a defeated legion
Beneath the yoke.
What avail him now his awards and prizes,
The praise expended upon his meticulous technique,
His individual new voice?
Knocked into the middle of next week
His brainchild now consorts with the bad buys
The sinker, clinkers, dogs and dregs,
The Edsels of the world of moveable type,
The bummers that no amount of hype could shift,
The unbudgeable turkeys.

ORION MAGAZINE (http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/336/)
What’s the Use of Pets?
Cats were not discussed in America’s first general pet reference guide, the 1866 Book of Household Pets, even though almost every household had one. But cats weren’t pets; they were seen, according to pet historian Katherine Grier, as “independent contractors,” housed in exchange for controlling vermin. Today, pets rarely have practical functions. According to the APPMA, the most frequently cited benefit of pet ownership—listed by 93 percent of dog and cat owners alike—is “companionship, love, company, affection.” The second-most-cited benefit is “fun to watch/have in household,” and the third is “like a child/family member.” Seventy-one percent of dog owners consider their pet a member of the family, as do 64 percent of cat owners, 48 percent of bird owners, 40 percent of small animal owners, and 17 percent of reptile owners. Even the scaly and cold-blooded, once brought into the home, can inspire parental affection.

Just as hot and miserably uncomfortable today as it has been all week. Running my various errands was not much fun.
Matt, when I first moved to the East Coast one of the ways I coped with the weather was to do a most of my errands in spring and fall. Obviously, that only works for certain things, but I'd really stock up on all I could so that I could avoid the hot, humid summer errand runs and the treacherous roads of winter. I know some people from the East thought it silly, but I had as much trouble as you with the humidity. Being in cars is the worst, I think, because there's so much glass.

Northern Ireland Man Bites Off Head of Girlfriend's Snake in Fight
A Northern Ireland man bit off the head of his girlfriend's pet snake during a fight and remarked that it "tasted lovely," lawyers testified Friday.
Shane Cooke, a 33-year-old bricklayer, was arraigned in Belfast High Court on charges of assaulting his girlfriend, Coleen McGleenon, and fatally torturing her royal python Aug. 4.
McGleenon's lawyers said he headbutted her twice and picked up her pet, put it in his mouth, and threw its severed head at her. "Your snake tasted lovely," he was quoted as saying.

Why is it that the 3rd season of GOMER PYLE USMC gets released, but no second season of DRAGNET OR ADAM 12???? Surely those two series have as many fans as Gomer.
I think the answer is quite simple. Gomer sold more units than Dragnet or Adam 12. Dragnet belongs in a time capsule the dialogie and the performance by Jack Webb a re a hoot and they are not meant to be.
Adam 12 is a little too vanilla by today's standards. After all it is no NYPD Blue

I should have mentioned it the other day that the Carol Burnett Show was a bootleg set. The main reason why the complete show has never been released is due to music rights. Too expensive. Especially with all the musical tributes. This is the reason why the show was editied down to a half hour of the comedy sketeches.

Dear friend after going through your profile I decided to contact you for friendship and assistance. I am, Miss Tersy Jabie, the only child of late chief and Mrs. Jabie. My father was poisoned to death by his business associates because of his wealth@. As my father lay dieing he called me to his deathbed (I am his only child as my mother died when I was young.)+and told me about the money ($10.500.000). He deposited the money in a bank here in our country. It was because of this money that he was poisoned. If he dies*, I shall look for some one whom I trust to help me transfer this money out of our country and to his account^. This account is for investment purpose abroad. While I will continue my education then this person will be managing the investment. Dear friend I am soliciting your assistance to help me transfer this money out of this country for my life sake. I will come to meet you to so that I may continue my education in your country.
+Which really doesn't have anything to do with youbeing his only child. He didn't remarry and have another family?
@Are there no law enforcement agencies where you live?
*I thought he was already poisoned to death and was the late chief.
^ Why do you need help?

Adam 12 is a little too vanilla by today's standards. After all it is no NYPD Blue
Which is of course exactly why I prefer it! ;D

Jane, I haven't watched any of these, but I've recorded them all...unless something went wrong with my DVR. I could tape them for you, if you want. It would have to be onto VHS, but it is easily done. Let me know. :)
Thank you for the offer. I don't have any way of watching VHS anymore.

Put on your birthday suit when you feel down and out
Strut down the street and have your picture took
Some mother's screams will draw a crowd about
The siren sounds are a certain sign
That you've given all a good look!

I like it, Ron, thank you.

A GREAT BIG CONGRATS to BK on his new FRED!
THATS FOR SURE!!! :D :D :D

My Mary Poppins vocal selections came in the mail today. I'll have a little read of them before Annie, Get Your Gun rehearsals this eve in honor of DR Jose.

And speaking of THE PRETENDER. I should have mentioned it is Jarod's little brother who is fantastic as Michael on the BURN NOTICE.
While over on LOST, John Gries who played Broots, played arch-nemesis Ben's ill-fated father.

Trivia:
Speaking of OVER HERE!
Over Here! was a follow-up to the Sherman brothers' World War II musical Victory Canteen which was a musical comedy play with script by Milt Larsen and Bobby Lauher and song score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The play opened on January 27, 1971 at the Ivar Theatre and ran for seven months. The show featured former Mouseketeer Sherry Alberoni, famous 1940s sensation Patty Andrews, Laureen Yarnell (of Shields and Yarnell), Beverly Sanders, and Marcia Kramer, Patty Shayne, and Brian Avery. Also in the cast was Anson Williams of Happy Days fame as was KNX Radio Entertainment Reporter Tom Hatten. The follow-spot operator was KNX Traffic Reporter Doug Dunlap.

3:30 am... and two young students from the States are coming back to their hotel room: on finding the door closed, I hear one of them shout (Yes! they shout! They tend to be loud! LOL!) ... well... he shouts "holy shit!' not knowing I am around...
I let them in and he says "bonsoir!" They make a point of speaking French, which is nice. And then I ask "How do you say "holy shit!" in French?"
He giggles and the other one, who obviously had a little too much to drink, says: "What was that?"
Me:" He'll tell you later on! Right now you need some sleep!"...

Ah, SoHo...
A couple more pairs of jeans from Uniqlo - which I had tailored (for free) again. A cute little top for a friend's baby who turns ONE tomorrow from Lucky (Jeans) Boy.
But the big discovery of the day actually came courtesy of DR Jason:
Kee's Chocolates (http://www.keeschocolates.com/)
It's a small store front in SoHo with an open kitchen of sort next door where they make the truffles. And that's basically all they sell. We sampled a few: Coconut, Blood Orange and Earl Grey - and we both had extremely satisfied smiles on our faces as we consumed them, as we enjoyed them. They had just brought the Earl Grey ones into the shop while we were there, and I could definitely tell it was a "fresh" chocolate.
Hmm... According to their website, they also make macaroons... Which I did not see while were there... Hmm... Guess I'll have to head back there sometime.
It looks like The Enabler is now the one being enabled.
-You have done well, Grasshopper.

Peter Miller (of S&V fame) has some unkind words for capitalists keeping public works hostage for profit!
I wouldn't call The Carol Burnett show a "publlic work"! The writers, actors, musicians, all deserve to get paid, unless the rights to their performances were buy-outs.
I think Peter and others, including myself, are frustrated by the exhorbitant amount stock footage houses are now charging for footage that they most likely spent nothing on---newsreels, etc. where no one knows anything about who shot the footage and there is no profit for the person who did the work, only for the person who happened to get ahold of a copy. This is why, unfortunately, PBS relies more and more on cheesy re-enactments than on actual archival footage.
The price of the footage is why a landmark documentary like "Eyes on the Prize" was out of circulation for so long, and why Peter and I will probably never make a dime of profit from our film. But, that's not why we made it...only someone deluded goes into making a documentary for the money!
-

Glad you had a fun day today, DR Jose. You've worked very hard lately and deserve some fun! Do you have to work on your birthday?
Right now, I'm not scheduled for any pit work this Sunday. Which is OK. However, I'm still not sure exactly what I want to do this Sunday. I had checked to see if Steve could make it up to NYC this weekend, but he's swamped right now with a recording project for the Richmond Men's Chorus. My friend, Andy, may come up Sunday, but I'm not counting on it due to some recent health issues that have affected his bank account. :-\ So...
I've actually just been thinking of having a nice quiet day all to myself. Just let things happen as they happen. Meet up with people throughout the day. -I'm also thinking of heading down to Richmond to see my folks and my nieces and nephew too. Heck, I'll only be turning 39. I'll save the big party for next year when I turn 39 again. ;)
*I will say, the one notion that I think I may end up going with is just to spend the day doing things here in New York City that I have yet to do here in New York City: Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge... Take the Staten Island Ferry... Go inside The Cathedral of St. John the Divine... Ride the Carousel in Central Park... Try to get a table at Rao's ;)... etc., etc., etc. And then I'd couple that by taking a picture every hour on the hour - probably more often - just to document the day.
We'll see what other ideas come into my head over the next 36 hours.

DR JoseSPiano - That sounds lovely. And the Cathedral of St. John the Divine is definitely worth taking in...but you might want to wait. The nave is completely closed off at the moment - still renovating after that horrible fire a few years back that so damaged the pipe organ. You can only view the crossing, the choir, and the altar at the moment. The crossing is still pretty impressive.
Very wise. Unfortunately, these are errands that can't be helped: grocery shopping, post office mailings, etc. I am not one for motoring around in the car to pass the time.
-

the Singing Nun
Soeur Sourire
The Singing Nun was Jeanine Deckers (born Jeanne-Paule Marie Deckers; October 17 1933 – March 29 1985), a member (as Sister Luc Gabriel) of the Dominican Fichermont Convent in Belgium.
Popular in the convent for her music, she was encouraged by the other nuns to record an album in 1963. One song from that album, Dominique, soared to the top of the charts in the United States. Overnight, the Dominican nun was an international celebrity with the stage name of Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile). She gave concerts and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.
In 1966, a movie called The Singing Nun was made about her, starring Debbie Reynolds in the title role — Deckers rejected the film as "fictional".
As the 1960s progressed, Deckers stopped performing in favor of a more rigorous devotional life. In 1967, she left to pursue her musical career, though most of her earnings went to the convent. Despite her renewed musical emphasis, Deckers gradually faded into obscurity, possibly because of her own disdain for fame: her second album, released in 1967, was titled I Am Not a Star in Heaven.
Although she was deeply religious, she was also increasingly critical of the Roman Catholic Church's conservatism and eventually became an advocate of birth control. She also agreed with John Lennon's statements about Jesus in 1966. In 1967, she recorded a song entitled Glory Be to God for the Golden Pill — a paean to contraception — under the name Luc Dominique. It was as big a flop as Dominique had been a success.
Her musical career over, Deckers opened a school for autistic children in Belgium with her companion of ten years, Annie Pécher. In the early 1980s, the Belgian government claimed that she owed back taxes; she countered that the money was given to the convent and therefore exempt from taxes. Lacking any receipt to prove her donations to the convent and her religious order, Deckers ran into the heaviest of financial problems. One last attempt to resume her singing career failed in 1982. She and Pécher both died by an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol, and were buried together.

DR François, do you know if those concert clips of Anthony that you linked to some time back on YouTube are available commerically?

In an effort to shrink the amount of space VHS tapes take up, my DH figured out how to do this very thing. I was so impressed!
I can do it pretty easily, but have just been too lazy to think about it when free time makes itself known to me, so the stacks of them that I have remain on shelves taking up WAY too much space.
-
Never mind; I just checked. The YouTube clips must have come from a televised concert.
-
My friend Gregg and I had a marvelous dinner at a family-style restaurant, and then came back to talk. We talked rather than watched TV though he did hint at dinner that watching THE QUEEN might be fun. I just couldn't afford to give up two hours watching that when I had HEROES that has to be finished by the end of the weekend, so we just talked awhile, and then he went to my friend John's house where he's spending the night. They're running in a marathon tomorrow.

Back from one of the most excruciating evenings of "theater" I've ever sat through, and I think my audiencemates, Cason, BJ, and Barry Pearl would agree. However, we had quite an amusing time at intermission, when I was loudly pointing out those I thought would be pulling out their Blackberries to post on All That Chat how brilliant the show was. Prior to the show we had dinner at a really good Thai place not to far from the theater. I'll go into more detail in the notes. I'm now home trying to relax.
-
Thanks, DR François! I just purchased "The Main Event" on ebay for a very reasonable price.

A.k.a. the Botero Dance! Ravel's?! Na! ;)
-
Rob is one of the few actors we offered to that I actually had seen work. When we were about to record Christiane Noll's first album, I went to see her in Jekyll & Hyde and Rob was on and he was really good. I met him after and he seemed like a right guy. I know Fred is not really the kind of role he plays, so I think this will be a good stretch for him and all he has to really do is be completely likable and real and we know he'll sing the hell out of the songs.

Thanks, DR François! I just purchased "The Main Event" on ebay for a very reasonable price.
Wow! They are right when the say that you're... pretty fast!! :o ;)
-
I just ate a small package of Swedish What Is It Fish.

The movie would've been better if he'd been dressed like this:

-
Or this:
-
Why can't people sing the "heaven" out of a song... like Sister Smile?!
-
Wow! They are right when they say that you're... pretty fast!!
Oh? Are they saying that about me? Really?? ;)
-
The movie would've been better if he'd been dressed like this:

Dressed? You mean UNdressed! :D
-
Oh? Are they saying that about me? Really?? ;)
Some... who would remain Unnamed and Undressed too! ;)
-
Dressed? You mean UNdressed! :D
Prescisely! ;)
-
I'm telling you...
This site is a place of constant wonderment!
:)
-
Or this:
I don't know about the muscles but I think that "the eyes have it"!!
-
DR Tomovoz must have nodded off a few pages back in all the excitement.
-
Prescisely! ;)
Prescisely? As in Presley?! ;)
-
BK, are there going to be BRAIN posters? Any chance of buying one signed by the entire cast?
That would be neat to have...
-
"the eyes have it"!!
He only has eyes for you!
-
Oh, the muscles have it, too!
-
I'm telling you...
This site is a place of constant wonderment!
:)
Wonderment with Wonderbra? :)
-
Prescisely? As in Presley?! ;)
I was flustered by Chris Evans. (No known relation to Rob...)
Precisely.
-
Oh, the muscles have it, too!
Obviously!
-
I was able to watch two HEROES episodes tonight. We got our first shadowy view of Sylar. I don't remember, but I wasn't sure at the time exactly who was doing all the kiling that they were blaming on Sylar. I thought there might have more to it than that. Anyway, seeing the shows again, I'm stuck by how grisly some of it really is.
And VERY entertaining.
-
Oops (Spoo!) Can't do a page dance here either! Upload folder is still full.
-
Chris Evans in FANTASTIC 4 is some kind of hunk!
-
Upload folder is still full.
I hate it when that happens...
-
I was flustered by Chris Evans.
Sounds like the beginning of a love song to me!! :D
La Strich would sing that! :D
-
I hate it when that happens...
Me, too, and Harry Potter is none too thrilled about it either!
-
Upload folder is still full.
Dirty talking again!
I am so glad I don't - always - understand the subtilties (subtilteases?! ;)) of the English language!
-
Tomovoz was having lunch
-
Lunch was being had by Tomovoz.
-
Me, too, and Harry Potter is none too thrilled about it either!
Harry? He's playing with horses right now... and him too he is shirtless!!
-
It's more titillating that way. ;)
-
DR Tomovoz must have nodded off a few pages back in all the excitement.
He always stays above the general silliness!

Not Harry Potter but the next best thing!
-
Or possibly one of her son's "friends".
-
Dame Edna's long lost...nephew?
Beat me to it!! :D
-
Now, I'm heading down to bed.
Good night!
-
It's amazing who and what you come across while walking around the streets of New York City. :)
Yep! Walking the streets of Paris City is pretty bland in comparison! At least... during the day!
-
Wonder how Chris Evans'd look like with those sunglasses on!
Real Fantastic, maybe!
-
:D
-
Yep! Walking the streets of Paris City is pretty bland in comparison! At least... during the day!
Well... I would post my "night pics", but this is a family site after all.

BINGO!

Good night!
Good night, DR Matt H.
Sweet dreams!

So does anyone who has experience with iPods know if the 80GB version is too big or clunky for working out at the gym, or should I look at the Nano?
-
Sorry, DR Jason. ;)
-
DR Jason must have the most "interesting" portfolio of anyone in NYC!

If I only had The Brain!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Hilarious and so unexpected!
-
DR Jason must have the most "interesting" portfolio of anyone in NYC!
Oh, that's his daytime portfolio; one should see the nighttime one, I'm told!! ;)
-
So does anyone who has experience with iPods know if the 80GB version is too big or clunky for working out at the gym, or should I look at the Nano?
I know people who have them, and have no problem with them. They usually just place them in the one of the compartments on their treadmill instead of getting one of those bands so that they can strap it to their arm.
Have you gone to a store and picked one up? That should help you decide.
I think the bigger question is: Do you really feel the need to carry around that much music with you?
I have a 4GB nano, and I've been very happy with it. And since I like to rotate my tunes, it's a bit easier to deal with. Plus, I love the red color. :)
-
Sorry, DR Jason. ;)
Sure... you're sorry!
-
So does anyone who has experience with iPods know if the 80GB version is too big or clunky for working out at the gym, or should I look at the Nano?
That's a question for Chris Evans for sure!! :D
-
Have you gone to a store and picked one up?
:-X
That's kind of personal, isn't it?
;)
Seriously, thanks for the input!
-
And since I like to rotate my tunes,
Pardon me! I have the giggles!
Don't know why but that sentence just cracks me Up! Not down! Up! ;)
-
Sure... you're sorry!
Who's sorry now?
-
I like to rotate my tunes
That's what they're calling it, these days...
-
:-X
That's kind of personal, isn't it?

Yes, like DR DakotaCelt, DR Jose is very good at "double-entendre"!
Oh, and DR MBarnum too! :D
-
Yes, like DR DakotaCelt, DR Jose is very good at "double-entendre"!
Oh, and DR MBarnum too! :D
And you, DR François, on the other hand, don't know the meaning of the word! ::)
-
The other funny thing is that, in French "roter" is "to burp"!
"Roter", "rotate"...
Oh well! Anything for a laugh!
-
DR Ron Pulliam's gonna get me for that, but I only had the tenderest of intentions.
-
Oh well! Anything for a laugh!
As we all demonstrate here, minute by minute! :D
-
And you, DR François, on the other hand, don't know the meaning of the word! ::)
That's WHAT Mr Bush would say! He said it about "entrepreneur"! Supposedly, we don't have that word in French!! :D
-
Oh! I have to remember that I am supposed to be working! Breakfast time for the hotel! Will be back in a while... maybe! Be nice, you hear!
-
Oh! I have to remember that I am supposed to be working! Breakfast time for the hotel! Will be back in a while... maybe! Be nice, you hear!
Oh, how nice....
I'll have a mushroom omlette with whole wheat toast on the side, unbuttered.
Thank you! :)
-
Do you make...
Personal deliveries?
-
Gads, it's late. I'm about to turn into a pumpkin.
Smooches, kids!
-
DR Jose, you can always post those "night pictures" on your myspace page. . .
Oh! Dear Sister EvilTwin just phoned my, she's sending me a dvd of Lauren Bacall in APPLAUSE from CBS television. . . . ;D
-
Do you make...
Personal deliveries?
All of MY deliveries are personal. 8)
-
My goodness you people have been wordy while I was away all day.
I am always amazed at this particular board chairman's lack of organization. He makes me look efficient.
-
THey have been very chatty!
-
In an effort to shrink the amount of space VHS tapes take up, my DH figured out how to do this very thing. I was so impressed!
A woman that I work with has done this...she had over 3000 videotapes! She bought a DVD recorder with a hard-drive so that she could cut out commercials and other stuff. She isn't copying EVERY tape to DVD, just the ones that she really wants.
-
George! You're a myspace friend! :-*

;D

Let me know if the previous link doesn't work.

George! You're a myspace friend! :-*
Thanks for adding me! :D
-
Let me know if the previous link doesn't work.
Depends what you mean by "work".
-
DP has copied MANY of our videos to DVD - editing Tony Awards, UK Royal command Performaces etc to make (I think) 4 DVDs of performances.
We also have "Song & Dance", and no doubt a few others on DVD as a result.
-
Thanks for adding me! :D
Although I normally change my Top Friends on a weekly basis, you'll notice a theme to this week's Top Friends.
(Where's TCB when we're talking about Tops)? :-X
-
The renewal for MAD MEN hasn't been annoucned yet, but it seems to be all but certain. It's the biggest series hit AMC has ever had.
Even bigger than Remember WENN?? I LOVED that show! Why isn't that on DVD??
-

The Sarah Brightman "Song & Dance"??
-
Oh, DR George...IT WORKS!
-

We should have the esteemed BK ask his personal friend Rupert Holmes, who was one of the creators of REMEMBER WENN. He even composed a new Christmas song for Miss Betty Buckley to perform on the show when she guest starred.
-
Oh, DR George...IT WORKS!
We aims to please! ;)
-
Oh, DR George...IT WORKS!
If it works for DR Jason, it works for me. ;)

So... A question for the "Big Brother" watchers here on HHW...
Did any of you happen to hear about - or even see - the one clip that was posted on YouTube? But then was removed by CBS. Apparently, one of the housemates was indulging in some "selfish" activity. -Just wondrin'.
-
Did BK forget to close this string and start a new one???
-
We should have the esteemed BK ask his personal friend Rupert Holmes, who was one of the creators of REMEMBER WENN. He even composed a new Christmas song for Miss Betty Buckley to perform on the show when she guest starred.
One of the creators?? He WAS the creator and the composer and the lyricist for the entire series...if I remember correctly. And YES, BK should talk to him about it. Maybe the series can be a new Kritzerland DVD release!! :D
-
Well, I'm gonna patch myself up with Tiger Balm, grab a Bentley Little book from the shelf and toddle off to bed. . .g'night to one and all, except DR tomovoz, to whom I say, HAPPY ARVO!
-
Or possibly one of her son's "friends".
A friend of Kenny!! ;D
-

Amazing, what sort of things did your friend tape...
and I thought a gal on a soap board had a lot of tapes...
