At 10 (with the ladies final group recording), I watched TORCHWOOD which I had recorded at 9. Such a fun episode. James Marsters was a rascally villain, and I suspect we'll be seeing more of him.

I was a bit surprised by Jack and Gwen's conversation. I don't ever remember there being any romantic sparks between them during Season 2 (it was always Gwen and Owen at work, I thought). Now, she was acting as if there had been some big romance  that Jack had never followed up with (and Jack's reactions seemed to reinforce the idea.) Either I'm not remembering key plot points from Season 1, or stuff has gone on between seasons 1 and 2 that we weren't privy to.

I may not start BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Season 3 tomorrow. It isn't due until February 12, and I've got two films coming this week: Criterion's next release WALKER and John Cusak's MARTIAN CHILD. I don't think either one will get here until Tuesday, so I'm not sure exactly what I want to do next waiting for them to arrive.

Can you have it back to me by Tuesday?

DR George, I'll have to go listen to Lainie's version again.  I've alway been partial to Nancy LaMott's version on her Christmas album, along with "Just In Time For Christmas."

I didn't know about Nancy's version...I'll have to check it out!

I went to iTunes and heard the 30 second sample, but for me to buy the song, I would have to upgrade iTunes and the upgrade only works with Vista or XP, neither of which I have. :P

Hello all!

Well, the Bat Mitzvah was wonderful! I was so impressed with Nora---not only did she read and sing so well in Hebrew, but her speech (or lesson or whatever it's called) was fantastic--very thoughtful and delivered with passion. Wow!

And we weren't the most underdressed people there!

The ceremony was long because they basically did two serivces back to back.

Afterwards, the 80 plus attendees all crowded into Peter's apartment to have yummy catered food.

Many of Nora's girlfriends made comments in her honor and it was very touching. Egg creams were made by the rabbi's daughter. Yum!

A highlight to me was when Peter's nephew played the piano. He played a very fine rendition of Rhapsody in Blue---the whole piece (30 pages?) and then some Joplin and Bolcom's "Graceful Ghost Rag". (I need me a copy of that!)

He is also learning saxaphone, and told us that he keeps asking his parents to bug him about praciticing because he doesn't do it enough. I never thought I'd hear a kid say those words.

And...he was only 13!

So now we're going to pack so we can make a quick get-away tomorrow to see Jose and Larry.

FJL, I'm sorry we weren't able to plan more in advance---we're playing things by ear since this is such a quick trip and we had no time before we left to plan anything.

Next time...  which may be soon!

As for Miss America, they ran cutdowns of the 2 minute pieces that I cut for SOCCER MOM, and TRADING SPACES. Those cutdowns were what I was doing at the last minute before I left.

Also on the Vixter front, we received a letter today from the Director of Fine Arts for the School District advising us that she was chosen to be part of an Honors Choir.  On February 2 at 7 AM She and 9 others will be bused to St Paul's Church up on 116th Street where they will meet with kids from other schools in the tristate area , spend the day learning music and then at at 8 PM that night they will give a concert

Congratulations to The Vixter!! :D

We left the party at 10 and met up with Spencer, the son of our friend Jim. Spencer is in film school here so we had a good 2 hour sit-down at a coffee shop. Nice kid!

His father is the (Pulitzer Prize winning) political cartoonist for the Miami Herald so he's quite politically savvy for a ttenager, too!

Congrats to GEORGE on his refi! Don't spend your $130K all in one place.  ;)

Sadly, I'll never actually see it in one place, all at the same time. :(
