I showed up here entirely by accident having never heard of Guy Haines or Bruce Kimmel (I told you I was know nothing) bygooglinmg myself  in  moment of boredom  - dearly missed former  DR William F. Orr had posted about a birthday gift I had given him and I joined up as it was the only way I could "send a personal message"

Bill persuaded me that I shouldstick around as this was the nicest place onteh whole internet and he was right!

Now if I can just drag him back here again!

I miss Barrymore's. It was a great place for decent food and good company. It was unknown to many tourists. The real estate boom of the mid-21st Century made the leaseholders greedy. Now the lot sits empty with only our memories.

So do I, DR Ben!  Here's one of my favorite HHW photos:

It must have been very cold that day!

Here is my very first post...I've re-posted it several times over the years. ::)

;)

Quote
Hello All,

I know it's late in the evening (do I get a prize for being the last post of the evening?), but this is my very first posting on this website: I am a chronic lurker and parenthetical user (I'm getting professional help). I would like to put in my two cents about the male and female non-theatrical singers...for no other reason than just because. I have been in love with the five singers of The Manhattan Transfer. Tim Hauser, Alan Paul, Janis Siegel (my favorite of the bunch), Laurel Masse (original member, left the group in 1979) and Cheryl Bentyne (in the group since 1979). Individually they each have a wonderful sense of musicianship and style, but put them together and watch out! Incredible singing. That's my two cents.

The CDs that I've been listening to lately: Elaine Stritch At Liberty (love it - listened to it twice in one day) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (like it - twice in one week).

Well, until the next time.

PS. I would like to personally thank Mr. Kimmel (and/or Mr. Bakalor) for knowing how to correctly spell "a lot," (or for at least knowing how to use a spellchecker). A website with which Mr. Kimmel is no longer affiliated, no longer spells it correctly and even the incorrect spellings aren't consistent. I've seen "allot" and "alot" a lot.

I think this may have been my first post

"In my CD player, Fairport Convention, "The Rhythm of the Times".  In my VCR. my eleven year old daughter's singing performance her music teacher arranged to be filmed and shown on the local  public access TV channel. In my DVD player, oh lord, Barbie in the Princess & the Pauper!!! (I mentioned the 11 year old daughter did I not?)"

BK, about Michelle's funeral --

I have never heard about funerals being an invitation thing. If you were notified or if you read it in the paper, you may go. If a trouble-maker is unwanted, however, the funeral director may ask said person to leave.

Ditto..I have been to many funerals, but have never been "invited". People tell other people; the family has enough to deal with and will forget to get in touch with people, so it's often up to friends of the family to let people know.

Oh...

My parents will be in town tomorrow... I wonder how many times we'll be asking strangers to take pictures of us? ;)

Hmmmm...this sounds familiar! I think we only did that twice; I did most of the picture taking.

Earlier, I was trying to rapidly catch up on yesterday's posts, when I came across this one by Amy.
Yesterday Amy posted:
Quote
I have a houseguest staying with me, so I may take him there before he leaves. He's a producer I worked with at Turner many moons ago.

Since I tend to speed throught them, I sometimes drop a word or two which made for a different meaning without the word "there" included.

"I have a houseguest staying with me, so I may take him before he leaves."

Oh dear...and with Greg out of town, that would be most unseemly!

I agree BK - you should go to the funeral unless the obituary read "private service"  you should consider the announcement itself an invitation

Ok, you TV gurus....why do the HD channels on my set keep freezing.   The cable guy came out and changed the cord from where it comes in the living room to the DVR box.  It didn't help. They are coming back on Friday, but not until then.  I asked if I can change my box and they said to wait.  I told them that I can't afford to keep taking off work to be here if they are going to keep coming over and not fixing it.     So, is there anything I can do to see if I can fix it myself?

They have to do it. Comcast nearly drove me insane trying to hook up the cable when I moved here. They came out more times than I can remember, and would always blame the problem on the previous worker. They needed a bucket truck. I told them this every time. They would sometimes show up with ladders, but not tall enough. They would get it working, and then take off before I had a chance to test all the channels. It was the only time I have ever cursed out a company on the phone! One time, when they showed up without a ladder at all, Greg made them wait, went to Home Depot, bought a big ladder, set it up, and after they were done, returned the ladder. Seriously, they were out here probably a dozen times, with me taking off work to meet them here. Sometimes they didn't show up at all. Oh, how I hate them, but they have cornered the market here.

Oh Jane, I wish I could give you the one in my living room.  I bought if for Angel and Nicky, but Angel climbed on more than Nicky ever did.  Since Angel died, I think Nicky has only climbed on it once.

speaking of speed reading I missed the "the" in TCB's first sentence -

 :o

I had to go back a read it more carefully once I got over my shock

I got here by way of Grant Geissman. I was doing credits for imdb and wanted to see how I had listed Grant for his work on "Ociee Nash", and noticed THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL credits on his listing. I hadn't thought of this film since the late 70's-early 80's when I first saw it, but I had remembered what a funny movie it was. I did an internet search for it and wound up on this site, and everyone was so friendly that I stuck around.
