DR KevinH - have a great time in LA! Did you wave when you flew over Ohio?
Great to hear from you, Kevin! Have a great time in LA!
Thank you, all, for the birthday wishes for ML and for the vibes for my aunt. I'm about to head out there to see what I can find out.
Bye for now!

More vibes and a happy, happy to Mary Linda.
DR FJL, I have no care if SPIDERMAN fails or succeeds. I know that I have no wish to see it, but it doesn't mean I wish it ill. I do care about the fact that it seems to be in previews forever, that little work appears to be done to fix it in the time it's taken, and that the producers continue to charge full prices for a preview performance (if fools are willing to pay that price, then so be it). Do you want it to run in previews for, let's say, a year, and then have them say, it's fixed! This show is going to be the next BEATLEMANIA and run forever without opening. It seems to me, if the producers were smart, they'd have replaced the director and writers by now.
As to the rviewers, if the show had opened in New Haven, it would have been reviewed there and in every other city where it played preview performances. The producers could decide to keep it running and fix or to close. Why should a preview opening in New York be any different?

I don't understand what "previews" on Broadway is all about. I know, it has been explained to me. But in my opinion, once you charge for a ticket and the curtain goes up, it has opened.It's the same with restaurants. One used to wait eight weeks or so after a restaurant opened, so the kitchen staff could get used to the space, the waiters would know how to move around the restaurant with ease, etc. Now, people are posting reviews on their cellphones within minutes of the door opening.
"Previews" should be done as a trial in a not-on-Broadway setting.
Obviously, I am not in show-biz.

Friday morning greetings! For some reason, I keep thinking today is Saturday. It's not, but it IS the 24th birthday of my DFDiL (Dear Future Daughter-in-Law) Mary Linda. Rob, of course, is going to visit her. Fortunately, he has his own car now and the weather looks clear for the weekend.

My library got THE SOCIAL NETWORK yesterday. And since it's about a real person we are allowed to reserve it (they stopped letting us reserve movies, except those about real people). And since i "suggested" it they put it aside for me. So I will get to watch it this weekend.
Have you ever noticed that Greer Garson manages to kill off Walter Pidgeon in every movie they've made together?

I would have, DR Ginny, but I was too distracted by a family of five who were spread out over three rows. Dad was in the middle seat in front of my row. Mom and 3 yr old boy were in the row with me ( I had the aisle seat) and the two older kids were behind us.
While waiting to take off the 3 yr old kept shouting "Mommy, the plane's not going!" He quieted down after 10 minutes or so, but during the flight he jumped over the seat to join his brother and sister and later to his father. The kids switched seats. The mother turned to me after about 4 hours into the 6 hour flight and said "I need a break. I'm going to switch with my husband. You probably need a break too--why don't you switch with that lady?"

Miss Molly had a little bit of weeping on her stitches, so she is spending the night under observation at Dr. Uhl's. The vet doesn't think it's infected, but, after x-rays, decided that there might be a little hernia under one of the sutures, so she wanted to keep Miss Molly overnight.
BK, I'm curious about something you wrote in the notes. How do you know that what you have is allergies and not a cold? You said you were sneezing (which could be either). But then you said you had a sore throat. I've never heard of a sore throat for allergies. And sinus problems and congestion sounds more like a cold.
Good morning, all! The mysterious neighbor above me was walking heavily about the apartment between 3 and 4 am this morning. I'm not sure anyone's really living there; I think it and the apartment above my neighbor are being used for office space. There are several reasons:
1. I've seen no signs of any moving vans
2. There's very little sound coming from the apartment above me, only occasional footsteps at odd hours of the day and, lately, night.
Where's Jose today? I had the worst ice cream in my entire life and thought he'd appreciate the horror story. It was from a Cold Stone Creamery
It turned out to cinnamon roll instead. That meant the sugar level was on shrill to get the notion of the frosting in there. But they also tried to get the dough flavor and ended up with this odd texture that made you want to spit it out. Seriously, it reminded me of dried jellyfish. It made me want to rush home and cleanse my mouth with some of the organic butter pecan I have in the freezer.
I don't think I had ever heard that song or heard that video.;D
Nor did I need to. ;)
I've got tickets for "Jews and Baseball" for Sunday in very own hometown.
Sigh. You are a good person, Ginny. Take a small blanket for her. She'll be freezing.

I agree with this. And they are not, in any of their adverts, calling what they're doing previews. It's not going to happen again because no producer is going to be amateur enough to try it again. And Adam Feldman is offering an opinion, not fact.
As for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark...
I think the whole pop culture aspect of the Spider-Man tradition, myth and franchise, along with Bono and The Edge's involvement in the show in a way trumps Julie Taymor's involvement. There really was such a built in audience as soon as the project was announced years ago. Ms. Taymor was obviously(?) brought on to add some theatrical legitimacy to the proceedings. Of course, all after the delays and the injuries, Ms. Taymor has come under more scrutiny from the press and from those who already know her name, her work. Sadly(?), I'm betting a good majority of the "audience" - past, present and future - doesn't really care who or what Julie Taymor is. They just want to see Spider-Man come to life on stage, and/or they want to hear the latest works by U2. -How many moviegoers really go to see a film just because of who directed it?
Yes, the Press and the Reviewers can, do and will have an impact on the show in some form or another. However, I also believe that the Spider-Man fans, the U2 fans and their friends will have more of an influence simply through their word-of-mouth, Facebook status updates and Twitter feeds.

Hospitals should have blankets you can request that have been kept in a warmer. They feel really good.

In MRS MINIVER she made me want to kill myself! Does that count?

Yes, they do, but they are very very thin and cool off quickly. Our tiny little old lady who fell at church was freezing. We took her a fleecy/fluffy blanket, and she said it kept her warm.

Every "true" story is a one-sided story! You've been carrying on about this film as if the founder of Facebook is an old friend you need to defend from bad people. So, let's go right to the point: is he? :D
DR Ginny how is your aunt? VIBES TO HER, AND TO YOU!
DR Ginny how is your aunt? VIBES TO HER, AND TO YOU!
Thanks for asking, DR Jane, and thanks to all who sent vibes while I was gone today.
Aunt Jo is all settled in a skilled nursing room back at the retirement community where she and my mom live. When I got to the ER they were shoving release papers at her to sign and they were going to send her, by ambulance, back to her independent living situation. Now, this 82-year-old woman can't even stand up, so how is she supposed to live on her own? The ER nurse was really p****d at me for not letting my aunt sign the papers and ignored us for the next couple of hours. Finally, the physician came by and was surprised to see us still there, so she got things rolling and we finally got back to the campus about 4pm. There was some arranging to do when the staff there saw her condition, but they finally worked it out and I left about 6:30. I've talked to my cousin in GA, who's her medical power of attorney, a couple of times and told him that I was glad to step in today, but I'm not up to day after day of this.
DR Jane - yes, my aunt was glad to see me. She's very hard of hearing and has great difficulty hearing/understanding officious hospital workers, especially with all the background noise. I think there's also some early dementia going on, so she gets very confused.
Oh yes, DR Charles Pogue....what a fun trip!!! That is a lot of plays to take in, and it is wonderful that you were able to!
Hope there will be snap shots!

Your library has some weird rules. :-\ We only restrict the total number holds that a person can place, which is 25 (we used to have a limit of 200 holds per patron), but other than reference items (which are library-use only), anyone can reserve anything.

The reason I know it's allergies is that I don't, in fact, get a sore throat - I get a scratchy, itchy throat when I get these attacks.

Sore throats are part of severe allergies and not fun at all. I often have trouble knowing if I have the beginning of a cold or allergies.
Did you not like the CATCH ME IF YOU CAN rehearsal footage?
The last thing I want to say about my day is that I'm pretty sure geriatric nursing or social work are not potential "encore" careers for me.

I agree with you about the last episode of HUMAN TARGET. I hope the show is renewed.
DR John G what class are you taking again?I'm taking two intro courses. One is Modules of Critical Inquiry. The other is Intro to Liberal Studies -- East. Don't get the east part.
The rest of the scenes of the reading of my play are up on YouTube. For those that might what to watch it there is some "strong language" used.Will try to watch it this weekend. Sounds great.
They should, but the nurses rarely want to part with them. They want you to freeze. Something about bacteria not being able to spread. Yet, if I freeze to death on that gurney, I don't give a flying nun what the bacteria do after I'm gone.Sigh. You are a good person, Ginny. Take a small blanket for her. She'll be freezing.

~~~Ditto!!~~~
I really wish they'd stop shoving Broadway shows in rehearsals down everyone's throats. Seeing that really makes me not want to see the who - they are doing no one a favor, least of all themselves. These press events and all that - never used to happen and yet shows managed to run years and years without having to resort to that.Brave new world. Soon, they'll be able to clone the casts, so the likes of Marin Mazzie will never be able to replace Alice Ripley 1, 2, 3, or 4 for the duration of "Next to Normal."
As I left the federal building after finally saying enough is enough, I felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. I felt like dancing. I felt like I was an Egyptian (although I wasn't walking like one). It was the best feeling ever. I'm finally free.Hooray for you!
OH, I almost forgot. I went to BLUE VALENTINE tonight. Good grief, if anyone is feeling bad about not being in a relationship it's the movie to see. It sort of juxtaposes the beginning of a relationship with the ending of the same relationship. Not exactly a happy movie"The Last Five Years' without the music. Oh, boy.
