Yesterday was fun...I went to the parade with my Mom and a few friends. My niece Sophie and her boyfriend drove down from the mountainsl it's our tradition to spend the 4th together, but I usually have to go and pick her up. Since I had to work today, I was very glad she had a ride back, otherwise I would have gotten home at 2AM.

I took the kids out for lunch and to a college she's thinking about attending, and then back for a cookout with friends of ours that she's gotten to know over the years, and then fireworks.

The challenge was trying to get them back to the highway. It took me over half an hour to drive one block because so many idiots were making their own traffic rules and messing things up for those of us who obey the rules to make traffic flow better. One guy actually came up to our car and requested that we all turn around and go the other direction because he was a block from his house and couldn't get home because of the gridlock. So why he didn't just walk to the fireworks we beyond me. My DH was behind my car and did turn around, and it took him another 15 minutes to get home!

I had the kids follow me to the interstate and then drove until they got on the road that would take them straight home. And then came home and collpsed!

The parade and fireworks get more crowded every year, and the parade gets worse every year. Only 2 bands...mostly politicians and beauty queens in cars. We used to have Shriners, a llama brigade, a precision lawn chair troupe, dozens of young African American women in Southern belle hoop skirts, the Falun Dalfa, unicycle groups, cloggers. One year, Michael Moore even marched in the parade in a segment for TV NATION.

Where did they all go?

My brother and his wife and kids were visiting from Ohio , we met at my Mom;s for a 4th of July brunch then they toddled off to her sisiter's house and we hung around 'til 5 and then went home and vegetated

Our nect door neighbor, the local firework king musta taken his show on the road, because for once it was peaceful and quiet, today our yard, roof and pool were NOT covered in thousands of pounds of shredded paper, gunpowder residue and discarded beer cans and our house was not filled with smoke

hardly seemed like a holiday at all

DR vixmom - It's a "permanent" sub gig right now.  I'm currently covering Key 2 and Key 3, as well as playing day rehearsals.  Basically, I'm "on the line" at least five days a week in some capacity or other.

Der Brucer is right.  I shoul conserve posts so that i can reach my 7777 on 7/7/07 goal.  It would be silly to destroy that once in a lifetime chance by prattling on about some silly nonsense.

I'm hoping the Coputyard by Marriott has a thriving business center.  The last time I stayed at a Courtyard in D.C. (that one was in Dupont Circle), the business center had only one computer terminal and there was always a wait.

I quit going to parades because there always seemed to be too much commercialism in them.

It didn't work. :(

I thought you might have a website & tried variations from your name.  ;D

Darn keyboard!  I've fixed it now.

I did have a website for Three Dimensional Diffusion...but it wasn't going anywhere so I abandoned it about 2 years ago.  :'(

But  gosh, every post is well thought out and also given lots of thought.  It would be wrong to delete a few just to meet a seven sevens thing.

Anyway, what did Archie Bunker say about "once in a lifetime opportunities" - that things like that only come along two or three times in a person's life.

The Manhattan Transfer recorded an up-tempo doo-wopp version (from the album "Bop Doo-Wopp") and it's probably the only TMT song that I don't care for. ::) However, Elaine Paige recorded it on her British-only released "Cinema" CD and that's probably my all-time favorite version of the song.

thanks for the info, GEORGE.

I think there's a big ol' mistake on this NYMF contract - can someone nose around and find out if the participation fee is indeed $500

Well, maybe you should hope it's not thriving.

Of course, you could always just buy a cheap laptop.

$500 is what I think it is - unfortunately, schedule D of the contract addendum reads $5000, which I DO think is a mistake.

Had a very enjoyable evening of viewing. I began with Episode 1 from Season 6 of MURDER SHE WROTE. In this one, Jessica is in Athens and once again gets mixed up with Michael Haggerty (Len Cariou) who's trying to rescue a fellow MI-6 agent from some kidnappers.

Next I watched A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, the Robert Altman film with a wonderful cast of actors: Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Kline, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, Garrison Keillor himself (of course), Lindsey Lohan (ugh!), Tommy Lee Jones, and Virginia Madsen.

I really really enjoyed the movie. The music was just wonderful (no wonder Meryl got tapped for the movie of MAMMA MIA after folks saw her singing so well on this. Of course, she's sung in other movies, but never this much material and in harmony quite often as well.) I didn't like Kevin Kline's idiot character very much, and Lohan is just not my cup of tea (and she hit a fair number of bad notes in her climactic solo).

But it was just enjoyable to sit back and let the spell of the piece waft over you.

Next, I went back to MURDER SHE WROTE and watched the second episode. This one involved the death of a man, a girl confessing to the murder to a priest in the confessional, and a very involved solution to the crime. I remember seeing this one the first time it aired and being stunned by the killer's identity. Seeing it again, of course, the clues to the solution are much more obvious.

Among the guests were Madelyn Rhue, Robert Horton, and Lance Kerwin.
