Thanks George and Audriana, pleasant dreams to you both...

Sure, WUSSBURGER.

Welcome five GUESTS.

TOD:
I have not seen an episode of THE SIMPSONS in years due to thefact taht I do not have cable. However I did like the one where Tom Baker and Colin Baker provided voices in an episode back in early 1990s.
the movie was a riot.
-
Any uppity directors amongst the GUESTS?
-
DBF and I saw it a while back and laughed. He is a fan of the show and I have only seen a few episodes here and there. I have liked what I have seen though.
-
Nope.....

And just because...here's Dakota's 12000th Post:

I have heard that Matt Ashford's movies will finally be released. One i will see and the other I will pass.
I am not a fan of exorcism type movies. The Exorcist still creeps me out.

I used to watch The Simpsons when it was first on, but haven't seen it in years. :-\ What I have seen, I've really enjoyed. I have the movie in my Netflix queue.

And the word of the day is: PAWKY!
Like Michele?? :D

His other movie is a roman a' clef type comedy. A movie within a comedy. Please advise on spelling of the word.

TOTD.
I doubt I've ever watched a complete episode of the Simpsons. For me it has has as much appeal as Seinfeld. (sp) NONE.
Julie Taymar - not my "vision" either.
There was more emotional punch in the Animated version of "The Lion King" than the Broadway version
"Frida" could have been so good if had not been trying to be so arty clever!

With deep concern and ***ABUNDANT HEALTH VIBES*** for
[in no particular order] DD Sherlock, DR George, and DR Ron Pulliam :)

A new album from bk and Jason Graae would be a most wonderful thing.

I hope DC Josie settles in nicely and stays for good! :)

DR Edisaurus - the vision of your love cat dragging his toy about the house, being impeded by the other kitties, makes me giggle out loud! :D

DR George - CONGRATULATIONS on your new show! I really enjoy the score for Sideshow.

DR DakotaCelt - CONGRATULATIONS on your lofty new plateau!!! :)

DR GEORGE is a replacement Fat Lady. What great news. Of course we must see photos and reviews when they are available.
I enjoy the Simpsons, but particular episodes details are not forthcoming. I know I like the ones with Mr Burns and his assistant. Competitions between Bart and Lisa also cause much laughter.
I have not seen the movie.

Good morning DR TCB.

A Venus-Uranus 45-degree connection (11:19AM PST) may equate with some shocks and surprises in love, financial and social matters. Keep an even temperament to avoid losing your cool over a trifle. Helping you stay productive and prolific in your main areas of expertise is a Ceres-Uranus 60-degree rapport (12:25PM PST).
Which is really just a set up for the lunar eclipse tomorrow evening.
-
Does Venus rhyme with Uranus in some dialects?
-
Favorite Simpsons episodes:
A Streetcar Named Marge with its musical Streetcar! ("Life was just a mardi gras, a never-ending party-ha!" or something like that)
The Halloween episode which had the "How to Cook Humans" parody of Twilight Zone's "To Serve Man." (That sounds like a spoiler, but truly it's only the beginning of a cavalcade of laughs until you can laugh no more.)
-
Is it time for a NUNSENSE sequel called NUN SEQUITIR?

Possiblu.

I wonder how Miss Josie is doing this morning?
-
And the word of the day is: PAWKY!
Michele may be a sly and humorous actress, but (thanks to the writing) her appearance in Sondheim and Weidman's Bounce was anything but PAWKY.
Aw, k'mon, BK, you had to know that was going to happen. ;D (And at least I can say I really saw her in the show, in DC, so what I'm saying is true!)
-
Like Michele?? :D

OK, you got here first.
I got there better. Neener neener neener!

TOTD.
I doubt I've ever watched a complete episode of the Simpsons. For me it has has as much appeal as Seinfeld. (sp) NONE....
But at least the Simpsons doesn't do puffy shirts. (Difficult to animate properly.)
The Red Box at the store, located right next to the self-scan lanes, has a monitor on top. Said monitor runs short previews of the films the Red Box offers on a continuous loop. The Simpsons Movie has been a part of the loop. The joke about Homer being caught between a rock and a hard place ceased to be funny about a month ago. Bleh.
Currently in the loop - Across the Universe. I expect that soon I will be totally turned off by all music by the Beatles. This will leave me with what, a desire to listen to the music of Wings instead? Double bleh.
-
This will leave me with what, a desire to listen to the music of Wings instead?
No, Wing.

Isn't Wing a close personal friend of DR LAURA?
Off to work.

Good morning, all! I have to be out here shortly to await a Fed Ex package at Toyland. As a rsult, I cannot be here today when the fire dept stops by to verify that I've removed the cartons from the hallway. I'm sure Miss Jaymie in 3E will be the perfect Welcome Wagon for them.
I will work on the Babes In Toyland libretto today while awaiting the delivery. It should be a pleasant time.
TOD:
The Streetcar Named Desire episode
The now-deleted World Trade Center episode in which the Broadway musical the Simpsons attend is about the Betty Ford Clinic
-
TOD:
I haven't seen the movie, and I've only seen one episode, the one where Sondheim appears as a character.
Conventional Wisdom on the Internet seems to be that the writing now is not as good as in the first few seasons, but perhaps some DR who is more familiar with the show can render their opinion.
-
I am merely a great fan.
-
And the word of the day is: PAWKY!
And The Song Of The Day Is: CONSIDER YOURSELF
(And Who would play Nancy in our Production ??-MICHELE PAWK=of Course)
-
I hope DC Josie settles in nicely and stays for good! :)
I checked on her before coming on-line. Her purr-motor is running smoothly.
What some of the DRs may have forgotten is how der Brucer and I have worked with animal rescue groups in the past, fostering and finding homes for several dogs. OK, Josie is by no means a dog. But my point is that neither of us has a problem with giving up a dog or cat to a good home. I understand that a lot of people can't do this, but we both have the ability to love an animal unconditionally for the short term. I still think of Peggy and Angie, and of Zeus and Baxter and Benedick, and am glad we were able to be part of their lives. So Josie may not be with us long-term. A lot will have to do with how Buster, Bonnie, Mikey and Fletcher relate to her.
And I can now honestly say that, after being on this planet for fifty-four point five years, I've finally got me a little pussy!
-
Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. The windows shall arrive shortly.

When my Nancy LaMott CD set arrived from Amazon last evening, also enclosed was a little bonus: a sample box of Kellogg's Smart Start Cinnamon Raisin breakfast cereal.

TOD: The now-deleted World Trade Center episode
Do you mean deleted from the broadcast rotation? It is my impression that the episode was included in the Season 9 box set.
-
I hope DC Josie settles in nicely and stays for good! :)
Thank you, NOT!
I checked on her this morning, and she had finished the can of food, drunk the whole bowl of milk, and peeded on the newspaper that was down on the foor.
I took Woody to work and and bought one of those ready made litter boxes (DR Jane is such a nag!!!!)
I put the litter box on the floor, went upstairs to get her another bowl of milk, and when I returned she had already pooped in the litter box! So, I guess she's already house-trained. Last night Woody went downstairs to check on her, and when he returned he found that one of the dogs had peed on his bed!
If the dogs would settle down, clearly she would make friends. She is definitely a people-cat! When either one of us comes into the basement she's right there rubbing and purring. I had her on my lap where she was running her motor and she heard Woody on the stairs - she jumped out of the chair and ran to the door to greet him.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And having some green tea with honey... Hoping it soothes my sort of sore throat. I checked it in the mirror, and it does seem a little irritated, but I think any irritation is just due to very dry radiator heat here in the apartment coupled with my very erratic sleep schedule over the past few days. We shall see...

Good morning!
Looks like another beautiful day here. Not as warm as yesterday, but still quite beautiful. It's colder because my heat has popped on a couple of times this morning.
-
Maybe Jose would like a kitty?
Jo-Jo and Josie...
der Brucer
Um... No.
First of all, I have a slight allergy to cats.
Secondly, there are some mean(!!!!) strays that come into our backyard from time to time, and they are very(!!!!) territorial.
Thirdly, having another carton of milk in the fridge would just confuse everyone here, especially with the close spellings: Jose, Josie. ;)
-
Well, it's officially official DR RLP: we're SOL.
-
I have not seen THE SIMPSONS MOVIE either. It got rave reviews and did great box-office, so I was surprised when it didn't get nominated for the animated feature Oscar. I think a lot of people were shocked by that.
I'll wait to see THE SIMPSONS MOVIE on HBO-HD before thinking about buying the Blu-ray disc. Fox's Blu-rays are the most expensive of all the major studios (just like their laserdiscs were), so I'll wait for a sale on their stuff before I buy it. I didn't buy THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA on Blu-ray until I could get it for half price.
-
We are bigtime Simpsons fans. The kids can quote whole episodes verbatim, which is probably a little scary. Betsy loves to do the part of the episode where Bart has to help Mrs. Skinner with her chores and she's showing him pictures of cakes and tells him he can have any picture he wants. He starts to take one and she slaps his hand and admonishes, "Not THAT one, that's a coconut cake!" Betsy does all the voices extremely well. :)
-
I watched THE SIMPSONS early in its life - probably the first three seasons, but I didn't keep up with it after that. I'm sure it's still funny, but endless variations on the same family dynamics just doesn't seem appealing.
-
I did not shave again this morning. Pretty soon I'll be looking like DR JMK!
-
TV Reminders:
The Top 12 male semifinalists sing tonight on AMERICAN IDOL.
A new BOSTON LEGAL (the last new episode for awhile) plays tonight.
CBS has BIG BROTHER and a new JERICHO tonight.
-
And since everyone seems to be talking about such things, I'll just share that I had to deal with a lot of phlegm and mucus of my own this morning! :P
-
What an Unseemly start to Page 4...
-
Today I hope to finish all of the bonus features on the two supplemental discs in THE LAST EMPEROR set. There are at least two more feature length documentaries to go.
-
And of course you're all probably already aware that most of the surnames in The Simpsons are street names here in little ol' Portland, where Matt Groenig growed up.

Matt was a passenger on the cruiseline I was MD for for a decade or so here, and I was, unbelievably, the only person to recognize him. He pretended not to be himself, but he had that sparkle in his eye as I described who "he" was. He then asked me, "Is he really, really rich?" It was quite funny.

We're actually going through some South Park tsuris right now because "all the kids" at Gabe's Middle School are allowed to watch, and we simply won't let Gabe or Zach watch it. It's also disturbing that the kids at Gabe's school quote the show liberally, including the "stupid Jew" part. >:(
-
As for the "The Simpsons"...
I watch it when I can, and but it's no longer "must-see TV" for me. -Although, hardly anything is lately. In any case, I love the musical episodes, and I'm so glad they started releasing "Songs in the Key of Springfield", "The Yellow Album", etc.
As for the movie, I LOVED it too. And I even splurged on the special "Donut" edition of the soundtrack.

Two of the six windows are in place, but not finished yet. There is the sound of breaking glass as they take out the old windows, but no swearing, like when the plumber dropped the new bathtub in place. Maybe if he cuts his hand on the broken glass...

Well, I hope it's at least whole grain.

Say this ten times fast:
Mr. Graae and Mr. Groenig grasped the grated grain, groaning egregiously.

Yesterday Grandpa decided we would watch Jesus Christ Superstar. (Exposing the kids to new musicals on film is rendered more difficult when Alex, the 11 year-old. doesn't like the "mushy" stuff.
The game plan is to put a DVD in the player for Grandpa to watch , and the kids must stay in the room (Alex will start off playing his game boy until the movie pulls him in).
William, the 8 year old doesn't like to see people die - his very first question was "does any body die in this movie. (I gave a simple yes answer).
Answering an 8 yr old's endless stream of "why" questions is difficult when dealing with the arcane political intrigues of Gospel era Palestine.
William went and hid under a dining room chair until the crucifixion scene was over.
Alex' initial comment, early on, was that the singing sounded like Rock music - uh, yeah!
They both lasted through the whole film with little difficulty.
Woody wants to try Into The Woods next.

I can solve two out of the three problems. Keep the cat inside, and you really shouldn't give cats milk. It often gives them diarrhea.
Fear not, I don't think you are home enough for this kitty who seems to want loads of attention.

And! i got a new gig! Thanks to DRS Jose, Cillaliz and Jane for their comments last night.
I did actually sleep elevated. And the hot drinks had helped.
The one thing i had not realized is that it was okay to swallow the flem. I was sort of thinking it would be better if it came out.
And yes i could call a pharmacy or nurse hotline.
I do get sinus pains fairly often. I just never had my throat coated like that before.
Again, thanks.

Mikey started with the yelping too - and, yes, I had to get him up on the bed. After a few occurances, he learned when he pulled a muscle NOT to try and use the leg but to walk around with it held up (like he had a thorn in his paw) for a day or so 'til it healed.
When Kelsy was in his waning months, I put a hassock next to the end of the bed to give a step up. Now, Miakey uses it whenever he feels achy.

The show was enjoyable as it always is. But like DR MattH, it was fairly easy to predict who was involved. As soon as the husband mentioned the insurance it set off huge red flags.
It was nice seeing Alison's police friend again. But i wonder if the old DA (duvalis) (sp?) will be on again. I miss him so much.

Well, I have an appointment at 1:00 pm. I'm at work now and will report back later. :)

Just got done sending some letters off to a few people. They were politely written on several matters

Golly....don't let Miss Karen get wind of this means of making gratuitous (double-) posts.
:P
Who me??? :)

RE: last night's MEDIUM
SPOILERS

The show was enjoyable as it always is. But like DR MattH, it was fairly easy to predict who was involved. As soon as the husband mentioned the insurance it set off huge red flags.
It was nice seeing Alison's police friend again. But i wonder if the old DA (duvalis) (sp?) will be on again. I miss him so much.
Your channel did not show previews for next week? Manny Devalos was in one of the scenes.
-
Who me??? :)
Is your name "Miss Karen"?
-
Such a pretty kitty
-
I wonder if giving brandy to dogs causes diarrhea? ;)
Why do you wonder this?
Have you a doggy diarrhea fetish?
-
Is your name "Miss Karen"?
nah... I do miss her gratuitous posts... :)
-
Well, it seems the problems I was having editing my photos on-line was not an AOL problem, but rather a Comcast problem. Later in the evening Comcast went off and I had no internet, cable TV, nor telephone!
All is back to the way it should be...and now it is picture time!

Why am I reminded of a Birthday Cake!
Lovely....and is this the kitty that didn't grasp the concept of the litter box's function (I call your attention to the droppings on the side of the litterbox).
-
nah... I do miss her gratuitous posts... :)
I see you're more than making up for them.

A hassock, interesting.
Sherlock has two different ramps & neither worked. We have been hunting for steps that are large enough for him. This morning Keith finally found some that should work.
Until the steps arrive we are making our own stairs with ottomans & his little ramp.
-
Also at dinner at Genghis Cohen on my first night in town was the delightful DR Singingnymph....at first we thought she was not going to show up due to the last minute dinner decisions...but she indeed did show up and just in the Nick Nolte of time, too! And here is smiling proof!
-
(Except that it's pronounced GRAYnig). ;)
No NITPICKING allowed on Haines His Way, either!!!
-
Also at dinner was DR Cason. Here DR Adrianna helps remove something from his ear.
DR Cason has been very busy with school and he is appearing in a play. One of the actors dropped out and he was hired to replace him...thus his lack of HHW postings recently. But rest assured he is doing fine and is even sporting a new look ... the Clark Gable mustache.

Cute photo of DR Singingnymph.

And again...with Adrianna's hand removed.

If that kitty litter box had been placed inside a plastic garbage bag, it would be easier to trash. You work them like a doggie poop bag & turn them inside out. Then you have a clean litter box to reuse.
-
Actually that was just a wax statue of DR Cason....and it only came in one pose.
-
Well, it's officially official DR RLP: we're SOL.
I'm not. I have a perfectly wonderful HD DVD player that upconverts ALL my standard DVDs beautifully. It plays all the HD DVDs I own brilliantly. It will serve me for YEARS to come.
At some point in the future, when Blu-ray actually manages to fulfill "some" of the promises it has yet to achieve, I might be induced to buy a player if the price is right.
-
DR Cason, DR Singingnymph, and myself at Genghis Cohen.

I think that's a Cason puppet and that Adriana is manipulating his head/face.

BK, the package arrived safely, and I am now home. I wonder if Miss Jaymie has given the firemen today's tour of the apartment building yet? I had hoped to miss
them her it.

I rest my case. EXACTLY the same angle of the head and the same smile.

Nice pix, especially Miss Patti's hand in Mr. Murphy's ear.

And since everyone seems to be talking about such things, I'll just share that I had to deal with a lot of phlegm and mucus of my own this morning! :P
What? Did UPS deliver so early?

I was perfectly pleased with my cheap motel in Glendale...bed was comfy and pillows were great...although it you waited to take your shower you did not have any hot water (!)...however, I will say that my room at the newly renovated Burbank Marriott (where I switched over to on Thursday) was most spectacular! A 100% improvement from the last time I stayed there....

I love the pic in front of the restaurant - it looks like an LP cover for a grunge band called Genghis Cohen.

And especially for DearReaderLaura...carpet shots!

Friday at the Ray Court's Hollywood Collectors Show was such fun...here you see DR Adrianna, disguised as a consumer looking over BK's wares.

Here BK hawks his goods to passerbys...bitchslapping those who do not stop and buy, while Mr. Bert I. Gordon wonders if he shouldn't have set up shop at another table.

Lovely photos mbarnum of you all! Nice to see CAson, Singingnymph and Audrianna
-
Thanks for the carpet photos. And the other photos. They are all swell.

Very soon I began making my rounds, visiting the famous and not so famous...here I meet Lassie. A beautiful and smart dog...though she could have used a bath.

Next up was a visit to Frank Stallone. I purchased a few of his CDs over the course of the two day event. I believe I know have them all and am enjoying each one very much.
Mr. Stallone is nearly 60 years old, but you would never know it...and he works out, I could tell ;)

Actually, that photo does not do him justice...he looks much better in the flesh.

Next to Frank Stallone was the handsome Mr. John Wesley Shipp, star of the TV series THE FLASH and co-star of DAWSON'S CREEK, among other television shows.

Great photos from DRMBARNUM!!!
-
Here we have my interviewee Don Marshall, who starred in Irwin Allen's 1960s sci-fi show THE LAND OF THE GIANTS as well as the films THE THING WITH TWO HEADS and TERMINAL ISLAND. He is a swell guy and it was fun to finally meet him in person!

Mr John Wesley Shipp is looking MY T FINE
-
I should have held my comments until page 7, now I see a picture of the full group... Mbarnum, thanks for sharing...

Tuesday afternoon greetings! Came into work half an hour early to get ready to teach the February edition of Grantseeking Basics at 9:30am. Had a great group of 19, one of whom told me that I was "fascinating."
-
And one final LAND OF THE GIANTS star, DON MATHESON...another fun guy to chat with (everyone from that show was so nice!). Although he looks different then in his leading man days, he is still in very good shape and still very handsome.

What is that DVD situated between TFNM and Deceit? I don't recognize that, and don't think I have it... ???
-
Wow, DearReaderLaura DR, that's a major window! :o
-
One of the most delightful people at the show was Cynthia Myers...1967 Playboy playmate and one of the stars of BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. She was lively, funny, and talkative...a perfect guest for this type of show. I adored her...I wish this photo would have turned out better, however.

DR Singdaw, that dvd on BK's table is NAKED SPACE...also known as THE CREATURE WASN'T NICE.
-
Why do you wonder this?
I was just riffing on the "don't feed a cat milk" post from DR Jane from earlier this morning.
But it wasn't really very funny. :-\
-
And here I am with my # 1 favorite movie director, the maker of ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE himself, Mr. Bert I. Gordon!
We chatted off and on over the course of the two days and it was wonderful for me!!!

Bk - Did the box o' Milla Cd's get sent out yet?
(If they're not sent out yet, could you send twenty or so CD's out 2-day or some such thing? We're having a minor Milla CD emergency.)

During the course of the show on Saturday my friends Mark and Sherrill showed up. I know them through my interviewee Scotty Morrow as Scott has known Mark since 1972...and Mark has known Sherrill since they were both in first grade. I adore both of them very much and it was so nice to get to spend time with they and Scotty during my trip.

Good Afternoon!
Some TV. Some napping. Some reading. Some more napping. Some web-surfing. Some napping. I guess the antihistamine finally kicked in.
-
Sherrill and I...Sherrill is so funny because she is embarrassed so easily!
The story of her meeting Cindy Williams a few years ago at one of these shows is hilarious...Sherrill could not even speak...she was so nervous! LOL!
Interestingly Sherrill's father used to work with Ernest Borgnine and when Sherrill was a toddler she sat on Ernie's knee. So she had fun meeting Ernest again, after all of these years.

DR MBarnum - I'm glad you were able to finally able to share your pics from L.A. :)

Here I am with the sweet as a bugs ear Diane Franklin star of my favorite 1983 TV movie SUMMER GIRL where she plays a psychotic babysitter. She also starred in THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN and several other 1980s films.
She was quite popular at the show and is getting back into the business as well as writing her first children's book, which I read and enjoyed.

Two other favorites of mine, both former Universal-International contract players of the 1950s KATHLEEN HUGHES (The Cult of the Cobra; It Came from Outer Space) and GREGG PALMER (Magnificent Obsession; Francis At West Point).
Both were very eager to chat and were full of fun stories!

full of fun stories!
DR MBarnum...I am curious; do you tape your interviews and later transcribe them? What about situations like the show, where you're not conducting a formal interview...do you attempt to go back later and write down some of the things that you learn and stories that you hear?
-
And lastly, but certainly not leastly, own own Mr. Bruce Kimmel and Mr. Bert I. Gordon!

-
Great photos, MBarnum. Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing the photos with us.
-
one of whom told me that I was "fascinating."
Something the rest of us have known all along! :)
-
Singdaw, most of my interviews are done via the telephonic device and I have a tape recorder hooked up to the phone. I then later transcribe the tape, which is very grueling and slow going (however I recently purchased a transcription machine which will make it much faster and easier).
I did not interview anyone at the Ray Courts Show, but did chat with several just for fun. A couple of them I may later do interviews with, however.
-
Just enough room to lay your hat and a few friends.
And not necessarily in that order...
-
Wow, DearReaderLaura DR, that's a major window! :o
I also noticed that. No wonder poor Sasha is scared ;)

Ok, I must now get showered and shaved for work.

Josie might have been, or might become, Jose.
DR JoseSPiano has always wanted to star in a production of CATS! ;)
-
I'm very glad to see you didn't lest Josie loose outside.
I'd be tempted if I thought she'd find her way home - but at least she needs to be fattened up first (a little kitty on the loose around here can often fall prey to the foxes, coons, or hawks).

I've never been able to train a kitten to walk on a leash, others do it.
It's hard to believe that such a thing could be possible! :o

DR George - CONGRATULATIONS on your new show! I really enjoy the score for Sideshow.
Thanks! I like it a lot, too.
-
I'd be tempted if I thought she'd find her way home -
Many people loose their cats when they move because the cats are given the freedom to roam to quickly & get lost.
Of course you know dogs get lost the same way. :(
-
Congratulations to DR George on his new role and to DR PennyO on her new writing gig.
Thanks to DR MBarnum for all the LA photos and to DR Laura for the window-installation photos.
-
Do you have your own pole :D
der Brucer
Imagine how fascinating that would be :P
-
Singdaw, cats can be trained to do tricks too, including retrieving a ball. Most people don't bother as it takes more effort than with a dog.
-
I have no idea where the English went.
In America, they haven't spoken it for years!
-

And of course the fascinating DR GINNY

I miss The Cavemen too
My bossa nova band covers the Royksopp tune that was used in the Geico commercials.

I went to my Google calendar and found it is no longer in English :o. I have no idea what I did to make that happen ;D
At least what I typed is still in English, so I'm ok. ;)
-
Breaking news-the holidays are still in English! Wasn't that exciting?
-
Good heavens, page 9 already?!
Greetings to all and sundry, congrats to PennyO and thanks to MBarnum for all the great photos!
TOD:
Since I've never owned a TV, I haven't seen all that many Simpsons episodes; in fact, the only one that I recall seeing in toto was the one where Jackie Mason played Krusty's estranged father. The scenes with Lisa explaining Judaism to Bart, and Bart playing chess with the father gave me a good chuckle at the time.
I saw the scene with Sondheim on a youtube clip, back when you could post such things, and they didn't get taken down; seeing Krusty hit Steve in the face with the crumpled score had my sides shaking for a month...
-
Have to leave soon for an off-site meeting. At least it's being held at Panera, so I can get some yummy coffee concoction to perk me up. And, I get to go home after the meeting is over.
-
MBarnum-The photos have been fun & interesting, will there be more? I'm waiting for one with Ty Hardin.
THAT wouldn't be hard on the eyes!! :)

Hi Penny. CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks! I love it!!!

Hello Penny and Congrats...
Hiya, kiddo! Ditto!

CONGRATULATIONS to DR PennyO!!!
I wonder if any of the local bakeries qualify as "arts events"? ;)
Hmmmm... worth looking in to, isn't it... Baroque Bassoon Bagel Day; Cantorum Cupcake, Purcell and Poundcake...

Jane, it does bother me that people let their animals run loose. It bothers me even more at the end of the school terms and the students leave, many will throw away their pets. You would be amazed at the number of cats and young dogs we pick up at the library. Sad really...

Page 10 dance...
-
LOL-I've never been able to train a kitten to walk on a leash, other's do it. I suspect I lost patience long before the time needed to succeed.
Having been there, and failed, I can assure you the cat intuits exactly how you feel about it and reacts accordingly.
If you brook no nonsense and DEMAND the cat's attention, I'm told by those who have succeeded, the cat takes to the leash beautifully.
I've seen a guy and his girlfriend walking a cat down a sidewalk in downtown Oakland. It's QUITE THE SIGHT, let me assure you, and that cat was just as perky and contented to be leashed as any dog I've ever seen.

Do the perks include meeting this gentleman, from the top of their web site?

Amtrak will begin screening
carry-on bags (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080219/ap_on_bi_ge/amtrak_security).
Yep. They just showed the footage of their new "mobile security" units - a guard and a dog - walking through the trains at DC's Union Station and Penn Station here in NYC.
I just wonder how they train those security dogs to ignore any "treats"? I'm sure that the passengers are bringing on plenty of potential treats and snacks.

Congratulations to DR George on his new role and to DR PennyO on her new writing gig.
Why, thank you, ma'am! It might be worth a 2-day drive to see George in that part...
-
DR GEORGE is a replacement Fat Lady. What great news. Of course we must see photos and reviews when they are available.
Of course! :D
-
I doubt training the dogs to ignore the treats isn't as difficult as you would think. The dogs get their favorite treats when they find the drugs or whatever-worth holding out for.

And! i got a new gig! Apparently, I'm a staff writer for FineArtsLA... just cranked out an article for the site about the Los Angeles Ballet's upcoming Balanchine program, and got two more assignments! And the perks of such a gig include free tix to pretty much any symphony, ballet, chamber music, recital, major art that I care to partake of! The article goes up this week. If this goes on, I may have to get business cards...
Great news! Congratulations!!

And speaking of carry-on bags...
One tidbit of information I came across in this past Sunday's Travel section was the news that United Airlines checked baggage allowance will be reduced to ONE(!). If you wish to check a second piece of luggage, that will cost you another $25. And if you happen to have a third or fourth or fifth bag to check, those will cost you another $100 per bag. Of course, their fees for overweight luggage will also be going up in May too.
And now it's just a matter of when and if the other airlines will follow suit. :-\

we are chatty today... not even noon on the west coast and we are already on page 11... Pity the poor soul who has to catch on posts...

The real fix is to close down the mall (strip and otherwise) pet stores that market the animals.
And lots of public education pointing out that puppy-mill animals make lousy pets would help!

At the top of the page (above the dog photo)on the dog auction link, there is a link to a petition requesting PetSmart to stop selling bunnies. Rabbits are already the third most euthanized animals in shelters across the United States.

Hello and congrats to DR PennyO!
Howdy, gal! Thanks for the lovely photos.

There is a pet store not far from us that sells rescued cats. I thought maybe their dogs were from similar situations. We stopped in there one day, before we had decided on Sherlock. The puppies were all from local breeders, as if that meant they weren't from puppy mills. I don't know a single reputable, or caring, breeder who would leave their dogs at a pet store.

While that's true, one of the best dogs I ever had, our pre-BeeGee female mixed breed Sasha, came for a pet store and was about as sweet a dog as you could hope for. Absolutely calm and loving with everyone, and she was so good with the kids when they were toddlers and pulling at her every 5 seconds. When I was throwing out old receipts years ago I found the one for Sasha--"dog & collar $35". I cried.

Thanks! I love it!!!

Penny (and anyone else), click HERE (http://www.capitalplayhouse.com/performances.html#sideshow) for information and dates (March 13 - April 5, 2008)!
-
JMK, to me Sasha is the kind of dog pet stores should be selling instead of pure-breeds. Sasha didn't come from a pet mill or a breeder only out for the money. She was likely from a litter that could have ended up in a shelter which might not offer the same exposure as the pet store.
Sasha was lucky you walked in that day.
-
Yikes, DR George!!! March 13TH?? That's only 3.5 weeks away! :o

Significant here is the time frame. Pet retailer's used to get animals from good breeders and care for them well; as times progresed elapsed, good breeders stopped supplying retail outlets, and the Pet Stores started making puppy milling a profitable enterprise. Any day now the Mall Pet Store will be selling clones from China.

DR Edisaurus - the vision of your love cat dragging his toy about the house, being impeded by the other kitties, makes me giggle out loud! :D
I should make a quicktime movie ot it. The weird theng is, their favorite toy is just the string itself on the stick, with no feathers. They all play with this. It's the equivalent of kids playing with the cardboard box instead of the toy, I guess...

Speaking of Dog Bosco.....I could not have found a better family to watch him while I was on vacation! They had so much fun and I suspect, so did Bosco!
Here is 4 year old Meredith with Bosco. When I returned to take my dog back home she earnestly asked if they could keep Bosco for 8 more days. When I explained that I missed Bosco and wanted him to come back home with me she revised her request to just 2 more days.

Keith’s mother is home from her visit with the ENT specialist & the results of the biopsy. The results are inconclusive as the surgeon couldn’t get enough tissue. The surgeon & ENT doctor suspect it could be thyroid or nodules (duh!). Both doctors recommend surgery.
Not only did the ENT doctor make my DR MIL wait 8 days to hear he knows nothing, he is having her wait longer now while he gets in touch with her primary physician. He wants to know if it is safe for her to have surgery due to her pulmonary problems. Heaven forbid he made the call before he saw her. Keith and I are exceptionally annoyed at the moment.
There was no mention of leaving the growth alone, nor of the consequences of doing so on an 86 year old. Is it necessary to remove a nodule, if so then why do the biopsy instead of removing it to begin with? My understanding is that thyroid cancer is slow growing-how slow I don’t know.
Sorry, end of rant regarding the doctor, who deserves stronger words than mine to describe his bedside manner.
-
Thank you Edi-joking is fine. :)

That is going to make it very hard on documentary crews, whose checked baggage is usually light kits, tripods, etc.

Thank you DR Laura. I must admit she is not nearly as annoyed as we are. Keith's brother isn't happy either since he takes her to all of her doctor appointments & this one was a total waste of time & energy. He wisely sits in the waiting room.

Edi, your cats should love a Cat Dancer.
Oh, they've had them, but they don't last very long before they"re "down to the wire". And Greg always worries that they'll put their eye out, so we haven't had one in a while.
Their new favorite toy, which is a variation on the cat dancer, is a handle with a wire coming out of it and a dragonfly on the end. You can bounce it around and it looks life a real dragonfly, flying around. They are mesmerized by it!
-
Freddy the cat loves to play fetch. He will chase the foam ball around and swat at it and finally pick it up in his mouth and meow loudly has he is brining it to me. He sets it down and I throw it. Then we start all over again.
The love cat does this, too, with his toy mice. Two of the cats make that hunting sond when they're carrying around a toy mouse.
They also love to fetch little balls of paper, and bring them back and drop them in my shoes.
In teh morning, when I'm getting ready for work, the big love cat lies on top of my shoes with his feet inside of them. He looks like he's trying to hide them so I can't leave!
-
We have a shoelace tied to the dining room chair so that the end almost touches the floor. Joshie and Sassy love it. Sasha just chases her tail when she thinks no one is looking.
My cats are easy and cheap.

Since the Simpsons were among today's topics, I took out the season 1 box set and watched the last episode of the first season while I cooked and ate lunch. Only average funny as Marg thinks she's being taken for granted and Homer has to go out of his way to be sweet. Meanwhile, a baby sitter they've hired is actually a famous thief.
-
Among the several phone calls this afternoon, I managed to watch three more THE LAST EMPEROR documentaries. One of them was THE SOUTH BANK SHOW made during the filming of the movie in Peking.
One of the things that has become monotonous about these documentaries is that they all use the same footage from the film to illustrate their stories. After watching the same clips for four or five times, it does get very dull indeed.
-
Before shutting my computer off I shared the photos of Bosco with Keith. It was the first time I heard him laugh since yesterday. :)

I am remiss in not congratulating DR PENNYO on her journalistic opportunity. I can hear the IQ's of her readers rising as she types.

The documentary I've enjoyed the most so far is the one which is the most recent, filmed last year with four members of the production team: cinematographer, costume designer, art director, and film editor, each of whom won an Oscar for working on the picture. Hearing them talk in the present about the experience from almost two decades ago is more interesting than the stories I'm hearing on the other documentaries which were told as the movie was being filmed.

Sadly, no. I've mentioned it every other week, asking if she took pictures of various folks/events.
She admits she doesn't think about taking the camera but that she SHOULD have done so.
It's going to take a bit of time, I think, for her and for me to get in the habit of having the camera "handy".

I loved the simpsons growing up, and watch most seasons - I stopped somewhere around season 15, but I'm not sure. The first seasons were the best. I also love the halloween episodes, Homer is a genius, The flying pig (thanksgiving) SpiderPig(Does whatever a SpiderPig does), Bart and Lisa's big fights, every Itchy and Scratchy, all the various ending of the theme song
(each episode ended differently). Im on break for a few minutes - time for Simpsons memories!

(Exposing the kids to new musicals on film is rendered more difficult when Alex, the 11 year-old. doesn't like the "mushy" stuff....William, the 8 year old doesn't like to see people die - his very first question was "does any body die in this movie. (I gave a simple yes answer)....
No, Alex is 10 going on 11, and William is 7 going on 8.
It just seems like we've been stuck with them longer.

Petco here takes the cats that don't get adopted at the shelter, usually 3 at a time and keeps them until they are adopted, no matter how long it takes. This is wonderful because the shelter isn't no-kill. I don't think they sell dogs there

In teh morning, when I'm getting ready for work, the big love cat lies on top of my shoes with his feet inside of them. He looks like he's trying to hide them so I can't leave!
My cat Petey used to play fetch with me all the time. Callie isn't interested and Boo looks at me like "Go get it yourself"
-
I'm heading down now to continue with LAST EMPEROR documentaries.
WBBL.
-
Whew! Am I actually caught up? I was looking for something to pass some time before a meeting at 5:15 PM, work just isn't doing it for me today. This really ate up a lot of it.
-
There's a big to do at our city council meeting tonight over the mayor accusing two councilmen of proposing a prayer before the meetings because they were supported by religious PAC money. Now they want a public apology and say they are going to sue him etc. It's quite ridiculous. I've had 2 calls from people asking me to go to the meeting to support the mayor's right to free speech. First I wasn't goign to go, but I'll get out of the first meeting about the time that one starts, so....
-
There is a proposal that won't be considered tonight from the downtown partners and they want tax breaks or something or other extended for another 5 years. To support it they listed the new businesses in town, and it seems they are trying to take credit for bringing them in. I'm on the list, which is quite amusing since no one from their organization has ever spoken to me
-
Good luck with TLE, DR MATTH....I haven't watched the movie all the way through yet. TAMMY it ain't....
-

Maybe you should mention that. ;D
-
Very soon I began making my rounds, visiting the famous and not so famous...here I meet Lassie. A beautiful and smart dog...though she could have used a bath.
Michael, are you absolutely sure about your pronouns? In spite of the name "Lassie," every dog that has played the part has been male.
-
Maybe you should mention that. ;D
It's not on tonight's agenda. The interesting thing is the council members have proposed a resolution regarding how they thing the mayor should act. The mayor is the first directly elected mayor in Sioux City, previously the mayor came from the council. The resolution is absurd. I just may go. The council has no right to tell the mayor what he can and can't say.
-
Bosco wears those sunglasses like a movie star.
DRMBARNUM thanks for all of the pictures especially of course Mr John Saxon.
Did Mr Gregg Palmer have anything to say about.....you know who? (Trying to keep the blood pressure down on the West Coast by not mentioning names)
Argh. I totally forgot to ask him. I did ask Kathleen Hughes, since she and Sara Shane a close buddies....she remembered Allison, but that was all.
-
Michael, are you absolutely sure about your pronouns? In spite of the name "Lassie," every dog that has played the part has been male.
Yes, but I was playing into the Hollywood fantasy.
-
Well, I'm back from my walk. I can definitely tell I have something going on with/in my system. I decided to go ahead and walk to my bank - 20 blocks away - and about halfway there I realized I wasn't walking as fast as I usually do. Definitely feeling a little slow today. However, the walk and the fresh air did feel great. And it's always nice being able to deposit money into my bank account too. ;)
-
Oh well....perhaps Gregg will write a book someday.
Time to count my dollars and cents and head for home.
-
Health vibes for DRJOSE.....
-
Thanks for all the photos today. They were delightful.
-
DRJOSE can do this page dance....since I am at work
-
Petco here takes the cats that don't get adopted at the shelter, usually 3 at a time and keeps them until they are adopted, no matter how long it takes. This is wonderful because the shelter isn't no-kill. I don't think they sell dogs there
Good for Petco! I like their stores & wish we had one here. We have a Grange Co Op which is very good, and a PetSmart. I believe both stores often have "pets for adoption" days. These are organized by the local shelters.
-
Congratulations to DR George on his new role
Thanks, Ginny!
-
Which is precisely why I logged in early, to find out how DD Sherlock is today.
Miss Dixie doesn't like me working two jobs in one day, I can tell you!
She got a lot of petting late last night once I got home, though.
Sweet of you td. I thought I had better post as soon as I got up today.
I bet Miss Dixie missed you.
-

The shelter here holds adoption days at Petco, PetSmart, a local farm and home store and the mall on a regular basis.
-
Boo doesn't want me to talk on the phone. Every time I do she claws the furniture. It's is very aggravating. Luckily the fabric I have doesn't show it too bad as long as I keep her claws trimmed (pedicures are quite frequent at my house)
-
Well, off to the Orpheum Society meeting..then I'll decide if I want to join the circus over at City Hall. My guess is I'll go. What the heck
-
I've never seen one at a mall-good idea.
-
All caught up now!
Congrats, DR PennyO!
Congrats, DR George!
More Milla Vibes for DR FJL!
Great cats and dogs here on HHW, aren't they? Including new DC Josie!
MBarnum, so glad to finally see the pictures from your wonderful weekend!
-
I've never seen one at a mall-good idea.
It's great, the dogs and cats get tons of exposure there. They take the really friendly ones as they get lots of pets from all kinds of people. I haven't ever asked what the adoption rate was from this, but I think it must be pretty good
-
DR MBarnum - How very smart of you to leave some of your own clothes for Bosco to play with while you were gone. I bet that helps him feel like you're still there. ;)
-
Congrats to DR DAKOTACELT on her new plateau.
Today is a work day. Oh well.....
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Don't come five minutes before closing time and ask for a 15 minute reading......it makes things difficult....although we won't turn you away to be sure. Oh well..... NOW it's time to go home.
-
Thank You, DR JRand.
Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm up for cooking dinner tonight, or just calling for delivery.
-
Thank you DR JRand. I’m going to see if I can find some of the answers to my questions. I realize my MIL isn’t really interested in my opinion. She does what the doctors tell her, right or wrong. ::)
-
OH! And while I was out, I made sure to buy tonight's winning MegaMillions lottery ticket. That $220 Million sure will come in handy. ;)
-
George, congratulations on being cast in SIDE SHOW! Tell me, will Jeff be playing both twins, or just one?
-
DR TCB! How're you feeling?
-
Do you get credit if it's just in the queue? Or do we need to get it and send it back? Does rating it help?
Getting it and sending it back would be best---rating it would be a huge help!
-
I think THE SIMPSONS is just as fresh and funny as it was during the first few seasons. Actually, I don't care for the first season - some of the voices are different, the characters are not drawn quite the same way. But once they hit their stride, they were off and running.
The John Waters episode is a classic.
-
There's a big to do at our city council meeting tonight over the mayor accusing two councilmen of proposing a prayer before the meetings
They pray before every city council meeting in Marietta. And it STILL doesn't help!
-

To support it they listed the new businesses in town, and it seems they are trying to take credit for bringing them in. Hmmmmm. Are you SURE you don't live in Marietta?
-
Matt was a passenger on the cruiseline I was MD for for a decade or so here, and I was, unbelievably, the only person to recognize him. He pretended not to be himself, but he had that sparkle in his eye as I described who "he" was. He then asked me, "Is he really, really rich?" It was quite funny.
Jeffrey, you were a doctor on a cruise ship?
-
Good for Petco! I like their stores & wish we had one here. We have a Grange Co Op which is very good, and a PetSmart. I believe both stores often have "pets for adoption" days. These are organized by the local shelters.
We got our first two cats from PetSmart. A local shelter (well, 50 miles away from us) brings cats there on the weekends for adoption day. I found my love cat on Petfinder.com and the shelter brought him to Petsmart so we could have a "date". And the rest (including adopting his friend Elmo) is history!
-
Has any DR read Cormac McCarthy's THE ROAD? I'm plowing through it when I'm not busy here at Brewski's, and I've gotta say, it's a beautifully written novel and quite effectively chilling.
-
Jeffrey, you were a doctor on a cruise ship?
Yes, Dr. of Lame Requests. ;)
-
Do the perks include meeting this gentleman, from the top of their web site?
He wasn't a top when I checked.
-
I've never watching this show, but I might tune in to see Penn Jillette!
Priscilla Presley, Kristi Yamaguchi and Adam Carolla are among the dozen celebrities who will compete on the next season of "Dancing With the Stars."
The other contestants include Marlee Matlin, Shannon Elizabeth, Steve Guttenberg, Monica Seles, Penn Jillette, Mario and Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, ABC announced Monday night. Rounding out the cast will be Cristian De La Fuente and Marissa Jaret Winokur.
(Who?)
-
I meant to post this the other night, but I don't I did... ??? Or something like that.
In any case... While walking along 46th Street, I noticed a big new sign on the Comfort Inn - a stand-by of many and HHWer. At first I thought the hotel had changed hands, but then... Well... ;)
-
And I shall let that picture serve as the Page 16 Hotel Entrance Dance!!! ;)
-
Wow! You can't miss that comfort inn now.
-
Well, I suppose one could miss it, thinking it was "The Entrance."
-
Wow! You can't miss that comfort inn now.
At least not the entrance. ;)
I had almost thought the name of the place had changed to the "Hotel Entrance". ;)
-
Of course, "The Entance" could be a rival bar for "The Back Room."
-
DR Jose, YOU are entrancing! ;)
-
I see that both MANNIX and MY THREE SONS will be getting season 1 releases on 6/3/08.
-
Of course, "The Entance" could be a rival bar for "The Back Room."
:)
In Norfolk, VA, there used to be a bar called "The Emergency Room". Across the street, they had a sister restaurant called "The Recovery Room". :D
-
DR Jose, YOU are entrancing! ;)
Especially after you cash that winning lottery ticket!
-
Like your comment about Allison's acting abilities? ;D
I don't think that's a matter of dispute, Jack. She wasn't very talented as an actress. It's not a malicious comment, it's just my opinion, even when I used the word "egregiously."
:)
I'm sure she was a lovely person on set and off. And I'm certain you have your reasons for lionizing her.
I'm sorry if my defense of your "love-to-trash 'em" personalities spoils your fun. But if you see it through my eyes, you're trashing folks I've loved to watch in movies.
-
DR Jose, YOU are entrancing! ;)
So, does that make YOU exiting? ;)
-
I see that both MANNIX and MY THREE SONS will be getting season 1 releases on 6/3/08.
Ooohhh! MANNIX starring Michael "Touch" Connors! Mr. C. is spoken about in the book on Henry Willson, THE MAN WHO INVENTED ROCK HUDSON - a trashy, gossipy read.
-
And especially for DR JRand, a nifty shot of favorite John Saxon! The only Bollywood actor in attendance! LOL!
John Saxon is still very handsome. I wanted to see PORTRAIT IN BLACK so badly when it came out, but my mother wouldn't let me see it. Now.................yawn!
-
So, does that make YOU exiting? ;)
Not yet, I've only just begun.
-
Three of our last four cats came from our vet in Michigan. He often kept a tall cat cage in the waiting area with kittens in need of a home.
-
Boy, boys, boys... You're both
pretty special.
;D
-
Well, I suppose one could miss it, thinking it was "The Entrance."
;D Very possible. I don't remember having a problem finding the entrance.
-
Me love you (all) for very long time.
-
All three of ours are foster rejects from our fostering days.
-
Me love you (all) for very long time.
Umm.. DR td - Remember, you're supposed to see a doctor if it last more than four hours.
-
Especially after you cash that winning lottery ticket!
I'll sell anybody a lottery ticket, though I cannot promise that it will be a winning one. ;D
-
OK... I think it's time for some miso soup.
Laters...
-
Umm.. DR td - Remember, you're supposed to see a doctor if it last more than four hours.
Six IS more than four hours, isn't it? ;)
-
Two other favorites of mine, both former Universal-International contract players of the 1950s KATHLEEN HUGHES (The Cult of the Cobra; It Came from Outer Space) and GREGG PALMER (Magnificent Obsession; Francis At West Point).
Was that another Francis Farmer movie?
-
I am crushed that Mr. Barnum did not get a photo of Roberta Shore!
-
Maybe she is in some of the group shots.....check the backs of heads carefully.
-
Yes!! Someone from here might finally see ME act! ;D
Ouch!
-
He wasn't a top when I checked.
I heard that was what he said about you!
-
Bosley Crowther in his New York Times review of Chicago Syndicate wrote: "This is a standard melodrama in which the bright spot is Allison Hayes, a tall and agreeable young lady who gives considerable aid to the somewhat battered Mr. [Dennis] O'Keefe."
-
Anyone who would like to support our films, please put Sacco and Vanzetti/The Internationale in your Netflix queue, even if you've seen it or don't particularly want to watch it. The more times it is ordered, we might get a "bump"!
Shameless plug of the day!
Done! Glad to do it. :)
-
Love the pictures, MBarnum...especially the ones of Bosco!! ;D
-
OK, you got here first.
I got there better. Neener neener neener!
;)
Bitch.
-
George, what did the doctor say about your cough?
-
I don't love to trash 'em, but I do call 'em as I seem 'em. If you see 'em differently, that's okay. But I don't say something bad about someone just because YOU say something good about them.
I think you'd better just skip my posts from now on. It will be easier that way.
-

And she wasn't nominated for an Academy Award? After that rave?
I think Bosley might have been brightened by a pair of headlights!
-
I'm surprised RLP didn't go for any of the rare Oscar promos.
-
George, I'll save the dates-just in case.
Cool! :D (but of course, don't feel obligated. :))
-
Well nobody ever claimed she got into the movies on her acting ability, not even the girl herself.
-
Back from a nice lunch (eggs benedict again), a bunch of errands, and even a little whatnot. Time to proof a few chapters now.
-
I'm surprised RLP didn't go for any of the rare Oscar promos.
???
What did I miss? 8)
-
I think the Hotel EnTrance would be a lovely and popular place in New York City or elsewhere.
-
For one of the most successful shows in the history of television, I'm surprised that very few people here have actually watched it regularly.
-
Here's the link and most are still available - ten or fifteen of the really rare things sold, but surprisingly Brokeback Mountain hasn't yet, and that has much more score tracks than the commercial CD release.
Link coming momentarily.

Here it is:

According to Cindy Adams (!), Barbra Streisand is becoming attatched to the screen version of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BLVD.
Make of it what you will.
-
Here's what I make of it - total BS.
-
I am interested in BROKEBACK and THE GOOD GERMAN....still available?
-
Here's what I make of it - total BS.
I quite agree.

BS BS?

I never said you did. I never intimated you did.
-
Looking for something interesting for music for my upcoming production of ALL MY SONS......MR BK, do you have any suggestion from that list that I might buy and listen to?
-
I never said you did. I never intimated you did.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Well....there you have it.
-
BS BS?
Bruce Springsteen + Barbra Streisand.
-
I'm surprised RLP didn't go for any of the rare Oscar promos.
I'm surprised you wouldn't expect I already have them! :)
-
I found a couple of nice sites on thyroid nodules & cancer. I formulated a letter with the important details for my mother-in-law, along with a couple of questions I feel she should ask. If the nodule is surgically removed, she needs to be at a hospital that can determine what the nodule is, immediately, to avoid a second surgery to remove the thyroid.
Of great importance to anyone who feels a nodule on their thyroid, 9 out of 10 nodules are benign. I don’t know if anyone told her that. I’m sure the doctor didn’t mention a common result of an inconclusive biopsy is that the nodule is a cyst.
-
George, what did the doctor say about your cough?
They gave me Prednisone to reduce the inflamation in my lungs and Albuterol with an inhaler as needed.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Well....there you have it.
Yes, there it is. But also keep in mind that just because you say something bad about someone does not mean I won't jump in and say, "HEY!"
It's only fair.
:)
-
Did you tell him you were going to be in a SideShow?
-
Oh so now the internet is going to be fair - huh.....well that's different!
-
Bitch.
Bitchier!
;)
-
And I am going to jump in, just because....Allison Hayes was most certainly not untalented...you don't accumulate as many credits as she did by being a poor actress.
I would say her performances vary...some are really very, very good (as I was just thinking to myself upon watching her episode of RAWHIDE last night) and sometimes..not so much. I would call her a competent actress in most instances, and quite good in others.
-
Wow George. Did the doctor say what you have?

Petco is like the 7-11 of pet supplies. Their mark-up is horrible. You are much better off at Petsmart.

Indeed. "Count Three and Pray" and "Chicago Syndicate" are good examples of her good work, others, as you say....well, vary.

Time for din din.

That's not a bad thing to say about anyone.

Interesting, we have often found better products at Petco. Maybe because we are shopping at a Petco out of our area.
The best selection and prices for us is the local Grange Pet Country.
-
Bosley Crowther in his New York Times review of Chicago Syndicate wrote: "This is a standard melodrama in which the bright spot is Allison Hayes, a tall and agreeable young lady who gives considerable aid to the somewhat battered Mr. [Dennis] O'Keefe."
Mr Crowther was always an aficionado of the Lady Sneerwell School of Dramatic Art. :)

Oh, Elmore, I think her mouth/lip thing that she does during intense scenes is endearing! LOL! I have taken to doing that as well.

We should all be so lucky to be praised thus. ;D

DR MBarnum, I adore Miss Hayes and I think she sneers through everything she does. I have yet to see anything sterling out of her thespian ambitions but I think she's fantastic: the best sneer and bazooms in the biz.
-
Oh, Elmore, I think her mouth/lip thing that she does during intense scenes is endearing! LOL! I have taken to doing that as well.
It's my trademark as well. ;)

All caught up now!
Congrats, DR George!
Thanks!

I just discovered this!

George, congratulations on being cast in SIDE SHOW! Tell me, will Jeff be playing both twins, or just one?
Fortunately, neither. But he's cast himself as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, their next show.

This is the updated version:

I want this on my tombstone.

I like your new windows, DR DearReaderLaura.

I want this on my tombstone.
Perhaps they can spell it out with the pepperoni. ;)

In Norfolk, VA, there used to be a bar called "The Emergency Room". Across the street, they had a sister restaurant called "The Recovery Room". :D
Here in Olympia, there is a bar called The Office.
Which is great if you have to call home and say, "Honey, I'll be late tonight...I'm still at The Office!"
;)
-
Ouch!
I'm just sayin... ::)
:-*
-
Wow George. Did the doctor say what you have?
Accute bronchitis...that's all he told me. :-\
-
A cute what?
-
brokeback is definitely available and I think The Good German is, but I have to check.
-
George, did he tell you to try not to cough? I find coughing continues to irritates my bronchial tubes & make the problem worse.
No bronchitis vibes!

Thanks! But nobody said anything about trying not to cough...and I can't! I get these little coughing fits and I just have to let them happen and get through them or they last for much longer. :P
-
Well, I'm leaving work. I'll go home for a while before rehearsal starts. What was I thinking saying yes??
-
The Snark-O-Meter seems to be going off the scale this evening.
Think I'll go hide under the covers.
-
I shall now watch a DEE VEE DEE
-
The Snark-O-Meter seems to be going off the scale this evening.

LOL......this is NOTHING.....wait till Oscar Night! 8)
-
Good Evening!
Hmm... I guess my loss of appetite today was part of the cause of my sluggishness - no food equals low blood sugar. After the first few bites of my dinner, I immediately started to feel a bit closer to normal. :)
-
DR Ron Pulliam - Yes, your eyes are not fooling, I said I had a "loss of appetite".
;D
-
Currently watching "The Biggest Loser"... A truly interesting challenge sending them back home for a while.
POSSIBLE SPOILER........
Tonight's episode is far from over, but I have to say I'm shocked and disappointed by the lack of support and empathy from some of the contestant's friends and family. And I also wonder if the producers required them to visit some of their favorite "temptations".
-
The Snark-O-Meter seems to be going off the scale this evening.
Think I'll go hide under the covers.
Or under the shed, like Sasha.

DR Ron Pulliam - Yes, your eyes are not fooling, I said I had a "loss of appetite".
;D
I'm happy to see you've rebounded! Low blood sugar is nothing to toy with!
-
I have to tell you....I'm glad to be home. I'm glad there's something good on the TV tonight that I don't have to wait until 10 p.m. to see it (Biggest Loser). I'm glad I have to record Big Brother so I can skip the predominantly ugly stuff the show's editors dwell on (I KNOW things can't be as tawdry as the show makes them out to be).
And I'm glad I am still resolved to NOT WATCHING AMERICAN IDOL.
-
Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm up for cooking dinner tonight, or just calling for delivery.
We started to go to our wonderful meat & 3, but it was so crowded that we went across the street to a Mexican jernt. It was $2 tapas Tuesday, so we ordered 7 of them and a half a pitcher of margaritas. It was delicious and now I'm feeling fine!
-
I had almost thought the name of the place had changed to the "Hotel Entrance". ;)
That reminds me of one of the REVENGE OF THE NERDS movies, where they stayed at the HOTel cORAL esSEX. (Some of the letters were burned out on the sign...)

Music for All My Sons?
The Miller's SONS
Leaving on a Jet Plane
Cylinder Girl
The theme from Leave It to Deever
The Kellering Book
-
Done! Glad to do it. :)
Oh boy! Thank you, George!!! :D :D :D
-
Jrand - costuming is very important for ALL MY SONS. I saw a production where the father was in a sleeveless undershirt and the hunky son was in a standard T-shirt. Needless to say, this costuming mix-up hurt my appreciation of the muscular, well-toned writing.
-
Or is that writhing?
-
I wonder whether the title of the TV show ALL MY CHILDREN owes a debt to the title ALL MY SONS
-
I want this on my tombstone.
My favorite is: "I told you I was sick"!

Be not afraid, DR FJL. I will have all of the males in my cast play the show without wearing shirts. 8)

I too am off the Idol train.....and probably the DWTS and SYTYCD trains as well. I can only work up so much enthusiasm for an ersatz contest where the outcome almost always disappoints me.

Fortunately, neither. But he's cast himself as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, their next show.
Yes, I saw that.

Nineteen pages of postings - that's what I'M talkin' about.

That airplane picture scares me.

Good Evening!
After the first few bites of my dinner, I immediately started to feel a bit closer to normal. :)
How would you know about that?
-
MR BK what's the total and how do I pay?
-
I think normal is a relative term, although few people have many normal relatives.
-
Jrand, sometime in between the time I posted that Brokeback was available and you saying you wanted it, someone who'd offered on it but hadn't paid yet, paid. Sorry about that. I'm looking for The Good German now.
-
Oh okay....no problem. I was late to the party.

re: previews for next week's MEDIUM
Your channel did not show previews for next week? Manny Devalos was in one of the scenes.
I did get previews. But maybe they were not the same (i did not get the NBC previews). I actually saw the new DA, but not Devalos in my previews.
-
Congrats to DR George. I love SIDESHOW.
-
Jrand, The Good German is still here. If you want it, it's fifteen plus 3.50 shipping paid the usual way.
-
I see that both MANNIX and MY THREE SONS will be getting season 1 releases on 6/3/08.
Considering how the format for Mannix changed radically from the first season to the rest of the show...

According to Cindy Adams (!), Barbra Streisand is becoming attatched to the screen version of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BLVD.
Make of it what you will.
Barbra Streisand already has a husband. The hussy.
;)

DR Jane, vibes for your MIL.
I don't blame you for being upset. I would be too.

In Norfolk, VA, there used to be a bar called "The Emergency Room". Across the street, they had a sister restaurant called "The Recovery Room". :D
My home town used to have a bar called "He's Not Here" and that's how they answered the phone.
-
I think we should all pick a name for the bar we would own......
Hmmmmmmmmmm......I think mine would be:
Welcome to Uranus!
-
Well, I'm back from my walk. I can definitely tell I have something going on with/in my system. I decided to go ahead and walk to my bank - 20 blocks away - and about halfway there I realized I wasn't walking as fast as I usually do. Definitely feeling a little slow today. However, the walk and the fresh air did feel great. And it's always nice being able to deposit money into my bank account too. ;)
Jose, your -20 windchill sounds almost tropical...
It hit -60 at one point tonight and the temp is still falling...

Health vibes to Jose!

Peter Marshall to Charley Weaver: Charley, you have decided to raise strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
Charley Weaver: No. I'm too busy raising strawberries.

A lovely professor came in and I was commenting on how cold it is. He asked how cold it was and he said it was not that bad. It is much colder where I am from....
I asked where and he replied: Siberia

Tonight was quite exciting. I went to the council meeting. Here's an article about the whole hoo rah
http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2008/02/19/news/local/e64b92805f710425862573f4000d02e7.txt
the meeting was great fun. I did get up and speak, I always seem to do it. There was a big turn out and 20-30 people spoke - all but one in favor of the mayor. At one point the crowd actually clapped down one of the council members every time he tried to speak. It was so much fun!
Three local tv stations and the newspaper were there. I'm going to watch the coverage tonight. I may be on the news, but with all the speakers, I don't know that they'll show me speaking.

Interesting, we have often found better products at Petco. Maybe because we are shopping at a Petco out of our area.
The best selection and prices for us is the local Grange Pet Country.
Around here it uis Fleet Farm, Petsmart, and TSC
-
Time for to go to bed.
-
Fleet Farm?
-
He may be right. :D
he possibly could be... Parts of Siberia do get quite cold by our standards
-
Fleet Farm is a regional catch all type store taht carries gas, clothes, groceries, parts, etc... They do carry a lot of livestock and pet supplies. U can usually get Iams a bit cheaper.
-
Here ya go... They tend to be cheap for gas

I'm a husky from Siberia - that's the title of something, right?

Yup I was on the news. "I think it creates a dangerous precedent. Who are you going to say next said something you don't like"
My grammer could have been better, but once again I'm on TV.

I am very underwhelmed by the guys on IDOL. I knew i would be (since 2 of my favs were the last 2 cut).
The only guy i like is the last guy.
Although i only saw bits and pieces of the show and the recap.
-
TSC or Tractor Supply also has a lot of stuff.

I think fleet farm might be something that is only in the upper midwest in MN, ND, IA and WI for sure. Not sure about Illinois.

I'm working on my reservations for my trip to New York in May. Turns out the cheap rate isn't availble the last night I'm there and my "room mate" is only going to spend 2 of the 4 nights there. So, I decided to move from Downtown to Midtown for the last two nights of my trip.
The last night at the Downtown Marriott is $360, I can get 2 nights at the Edison for $390. So I'll be spending May 1st and 2nd at The Downtown Marriott where my meeting is and the 3rd and 4th at the Edison and go home on the 5th. More info as the time gets closer

Jrand, you'll have to undo the payment and resend to the kritzerland at adelphia dot net address. Thanks.

I think that the pairings for DANCING WITH THE STARS are actually just as interesting as finding out who the celebs are:
Adam Carolla & Julianne Hough
Cristian de la Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough
Steve Guttenberg & Anna Trebunskaya
Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez
Penn Jillette & Kym Johnson
Priscilla Presley & Louis Van Amstel
Monica Seles & Jonathan Roberts
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas

I finished the bonus features for THE LAST EMPEROR. One was a 45 minute history lecture about what was going on in China during the years that the emperor was alive (many of the historical events that are only touched on in the movie since the emperor is the focal point.) The history part was informative, but 45 minutes of non-stop talking was a bit much.
-
I have very little interest in a movie version of the Lloyd Webber SUNSET BLVD. but I think Barbra Streisand is HIDEOUS casting. Just because she sang two of Norma's arias on her BACK TO BROADWAY CD doesn't not make her great casting for the movie.
However, if they cast John Barrowman as Joe, I might consider seeing it.
-
Or Hugh Jackman
-
I had about 20 minutes before the start of IDOL, so I put in the STRANGE CARGO DVD, and watched the "Crawford and Gable" featurette on it. Not as interesting as the other two featurettes in the set (CRAWFORD AT WARNERS and CRAWFORD AND TORCH SONG).
I guess I already knew all they had to tell about Gable and Crawford.

I was very underwhelmed by the male talent on tonight's AMERICAN IDOL. No voice had distinction, a few were noticeably terrified, and nothing stood out as better than ordinary. As usual, the judges praised singing that was clearly off the mark, and sometimes ragged on singers who gave decent performances for petty reasons.
Unless some of the women come up with something special tomorrow night, this may be a season to skip regardless of all the pre-season hype about this being the best talent ever.
-
...The history part was informative, but 45 minutes of non-stop talking was a bit much.
Probably a lot like having Fox News playing in the next room. :P
-
BOSTON LEGAL had fairly irritating cases tonight all handled by the secondary women on the show (and Clarence). A very poor episode, I thought.
-
Probably a lot like having Fox News playing in the next room. :P
Well, the professor doing the talking was dealing with facts. I'm not sure Fox News does likewise.
-
I did skim though today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nada, and nada on tomorrow's previews.

Personally, I find SB a better example of ALW's writing, but that's just me.
BS is too old to play Norma.
John Barrowman skinny-dipping in Norma's pool would be wonderful! ;D

For dinner tonight:
Butterflied venison chops, marinated in hoisin.
Braised red cabbage.
Roasted white potatoes.

DR DakotaCelt - Well, it was cold here in NYC today, but it was most definitely far warmer than -20 degrees during the course of my 20-block walk. ;)
-
Josie (or Jose) needs water. (It's still unconclusive as to what sex she/he has. :-\)
But that's one hungry kitty! Every time one of us goes downstairs, JJ is asking for MORE!
That was accidental, but I kinda like it. JJ. DC JJ. Yep, that kitty may have a new name...
For now.
-
Going to write for a bit now and then head down to bed.
Good night!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Will we never get to page twenty-two?
-
Why, I remember the day when...
-
It's cold here, but not nearly as cold as Fargo....Dakota, hope you got your long undies on!
-
Are we getting close to 22
-
Oh we have a few to go
-
But I may just have to stop now. I didn't sleep too well last night. It wasn't the siren from the ambulance at 4:30 AM that got me so much it was that it stopped very close to my house. I heard it drive past without the siren running, but it woke me up out of a deep sleep the second it quit
-
I think I love Dear Cat JJ/Josie!
-
JJ is doing fine. I went down with some water, but what "she" wanted was scritches and loving. The contortions that cat can get into! And "her" motor was running the entire time, of course - she only gave a few truly audible purrs, but they were appreciative.
It may take a while before we can introduce her to the rest of the family. Earlier, der B was on the verge of bringing her upstairs, and her reaction was a very definitive "no thank you."
-
yes and I like her/him too!

If she's going to stay, take it slowly. It took me 6 weeks with Boo, but it was worth it, and that was just introducing her to another cat
-
Oh we're getting close, I'll stay until 22
-
Der B has decided that, since I don't have work scheduled for tomorrow (so far), I get kitty duty tomorrow morning.
I should get to bed.
-
An honorary "her".
That sounds about right.
-
I watched a strange TV movie someone gave me at the Hollywood Collector's Show. I tried watching the second TV movie on the same DVD but it was as unfunny and awful as I remembered - a spoof of the then detective shows, called Murder Will Harm You. You know what you're in for with just the character names - Nojack, Ironbottom, Lambretta - really pathetic.
The first TV movie wasn't very good (from 1976) and I'll talk about it in the notes.
-
What a great evening. I love being righteously indignant.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page twenty-two. We haven't had one of THESE days in quite some time - perhaps it bodes well for Sunday's Oscarcast.
-
I did take a book down with me, when I went to sit with her.
Books are neat to roll against. Did you know that?
-
Welcome ten GUESTS. Any director/producer/co-writers amongst you?
-
Will we never get to page twenty-three?
-
Had a very nice telephonic conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Pogue this evening.
-
Woody, your story reminds me of the days when I'd go sit in "Boo's room" she would purr and purr and want to rub up against me and play. Hey, you should get JJ a cat dancer.
-
I will say again - WEHT Jeanne?
-
Have you sent her an email or private message?
-
I really must go to sleep....night all
-
Miss Jeanne is fine - she's been busy showing her house. I said I'd show her a knuckle sandwich if she didn't get her butt cheeks back where they belong.
-
Make that twelve GUESTS. Maybe Mrs. Co-Producer showed up.
-
BK - Got your email. Thanks. I would love to have the tracking number for the FedEx.
-
I had cheesy potatoes for dinner.
-
BK - Got your email. Thanks. I would love to have the tracking number for the FedEx.
Then I shall e-mail you said tracking number.

Harkening back to today's notes ...
I'm not sure what is worse about Julie Taymor take on the music of the Beatles -
That she had to rely on the conventions of character names like Jude and Lucy - weren't those names used in a film starring Peter Frampton and the BeeGees? -
Or that she had to use the film as her take on the late 1960s.
I guess none of their songs have any relevance to our lives nearly half a century later.
But if that's the case... why make the movie?
-
NON SEQUITUR = UNIQUE SNORT.
-
I may be coming late to the party, but, I just watched the dvd of SYRIANA for the first time.
Somber. Thought-provoking. George Clooney certainly did deserve that Oscar. Chris Cooper, as always, was perfect. I hadn't seen Matt Damon acting this well since THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. Tomorrow, I must buy the book - at Borders, of course - on which this film was based.
-
TD, is JODHAA AKBAR playing at a theater near you? I think I shall go to see it this weekend...looks like a film that MUST be seen on a big screen! Looks like a good old fashioned historical epic!!
Here is the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ca2km2IwLY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ca2km2IwLY)

As for tonight's "American Idol"... Hmmm...
And as for Josiah not being in the Top 24... Well, I felt he blew his chances during Hollywood week, and with all his post-"Idol" publicity and appearances, well... I don't think he would have lasted that long anyway. And that faux-English just doesn't seem to go away, even when he's speaking.
-
DR Mbarnum, according to the imdb's "Showtimes" section, sadly, the film is only playing on the easterly coast of Pennsylvania, but, that is definitely a film I need to see!
-
And as for tomorrow night's broadcast of the John Doyle Company...
I won't be able to watch it due to an overload of overlapping on the DVR, however, I did see it live during it's final weekend - in fact, during it's final weekend when the tapings were taking place. I liked the production, and Raul Esparza's take on Bobby was truly engrossing and revelatory.
I don't see John Doyle's actors-as-orchestra as a gimmick. It's just one of his styles. When he originally resorted to that choice, it was primarily due to budget and space concerns. Is it an ideal "solution"? Well... It's a valid one, imho. Every director, famous and otherwise, has their trademarks, their bag of tricks. Using the actors as the orchestra is just one of his. *I have some friends who are currently in rehearsals for his upcoming Peter Grimes at The Met, and they're liking what's been going on in the rehearsal hall so far. And, rest assured, those gorgeous Sea Interludes will not be played by costumed choristers between scenes.
I also liked his Sweeney Todd, and I went into the theatre that night actually prepared not to like it - well, at least not surprised if I didn't end up liking it - since the sound of the original production is so ingrained in my head. But the concept and the staging worked for me. I believe I even quietly said, "Wow!" out loud after the final blackout. In both Sweeney Todd and Company the instruments never got in the way for me since the actors were so well-trained and comfortable(!) with their instruments. The musical instrument they were playing became an extension of their body, their acting.
Yes, it's all horse-racing, but I also find it a bit dismaying that people are writing off all of John Doyle's work based on his Broadway revivals of Sweeney Todd and Company. He had a career filled with shows with actual musicians in the orchestra pit long before he mounted Sweeney, and he has other assignments already lined up after his time at The Met this season. -God knows, Hal Prince - who told me personally that he loved John Doyle's version of Sweeney ("It was the first version I had seen that didn't ape mine.") - has had his share of misunderstood and misfires. -Although, being one of the relative few who saw the hoped-for pre-Broadway tryout of Whistle Down The Wind years ago in DC... The burning house was not the only hot mess on that stage. ;)
-
Oy, that was a bit soap-boxy of me. And now it's time for me to get some sleep.
Goodnight.
-
LOL......this is NOTHING.....wait till Oscar Night! 8)
Since I'm now in Side Show, I have a rehearsal that night. :'(
-
Congrats to DR George. I love SIDESHOW.
Thanks! It's been fun, so far. We're just singing through the whole score and working just a few things...most of the people can actually read music! And the girls who play the sisters are fabulous! They can sing, and they even look somewhat alike! When Capital Playhouse did this before, the two girls were very different...one was taller by a couple of very obvious inches.
Now, if I can just get better. ::)
;)

Peter Marshall to Charley Weaver: Charley, you have decided to raise strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
Charley Weaver: No. I'm too busy raising strawberries.
Peter Marshall: Paul, on his birthday, the nuns give the Pope something special, something that we all want on our birthday. What do they give him?
Paul Lynde: (beat) Johnny Olsen, tell the Pope what he gets!
-
I'm sure this has been posted here before, but it's funny:
Peter Marshall: In the Middle Ages, Paul, people in convents were not allowed to eat beans because they believed something about them we now know isn't true. What?
Paul Lynde: Well, I know they took a vow of silence…
-
i will do my best to be here promptly for the festivities but I have to do work things first.
-
And since we're so close...
Spoo! We're here. :)
-
Page 23!
-
Peter Marshall: In "Alice in Wonderland,” who kept crying "I'm late, I'm late?"
Paul Lynde: Alice, and her mother is sick about it.
-
Peter Marshall: Paul, Snow White…was she a blonde or a brunette?
Paul Lynde: Only Walt Disney knows for sure…
-
Peter Marshall: True or false...research indicates that Columbus liked to wear bloomers and long stockings.
Paul Lynde: It's not easy to sign a crew up for six months.
-
And finally (what I'll post):
Peter Marshall: Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather?
Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.
-
Gratuitous Post # 666! :o

Of the Oscar promos? Yes, the majority of them are left - one dealer is trying to do a deal for the rest, but I'm not biting yet. So, if any of it interests you, let me know asap. Several of these are really rare, and contain more music and some never had a commercial score release.
