I can't believe I watched the entire clip ;D

Now you don't have to watch the ENTIRE movie - even to hear Mamie say:

LOL-That is nothing compared to others he has found.  Our goal is to stay away from him when he's running with one of those vicious looking branches.

Sherlock would have loved what I found in our driveway this morning.  We had very high winds last night bringing in a cold front and many huge branches were snapped off the old trees that surround our house.

Well, it turns out I will be able to join DR FJL tonight at 2nd Stage to see Next To Normal since my friend won't be coming in from LA until early tomorrow morning (he had to bump himself to the red-eye due to a work issue).  So, in the meantime, I guess I should go ahead and take care of some stuff around the apartment.

Had another full afternoon of viewing.

I began by finishing ERASER on laserdisc which I had started last night.

Side 1 of the laserdisc was starting to display laser rot with lots of speckles and dropouts. Side 2 was pristine. I suspect this will be the last time I will ever watch this movie on that laserdisc. I don't have the DVD and don't intend on ordering it, but it Warners releases it on Blu-ray, I might consider getting that.

It's completely preposterous, of course, but lots of stuff gets blown up and Arnold takes spikes through both his right hand and his left leg and a bullet to his left shoulder and keeps right on blowing things up. He's not the Terminator for nothing. Oh, wrong movie. . . .

They will want a skit written. And actors.

You should graciously inform the ignorant "they" that there is a writer's strike going on, and that you are no scab!

Next, I watched CRIMSON TIDE on Blu-ray. Of the three Jerry Bruckheimer-produced action films that have come out on Blu-ray in the last few weeks (THE ROCK, CON AIR, and CRIMSON TIDE), this is by far the best. Filled with great actors, both stars and character actors. In the supporting cast are such people as Viggo Mortensen, James Gandolfini, Matt Craven, Ryan Philippe, Steve Zahn, Rocky Carroll, George Dzundza, and, at the end, Jason Robards in an unbilled cameo.

As for the transfer quality, I found it better than CON AIR but not quite as colorful, sharp, or three dimensional as THE ROCK. Great sound, though. Since most of it takes place on a submarine in battle mode, the subwoofer was never quiet for almost the entire two hours.

When I finished the film, I watched the bonus features on the disc. Sadly, all are in standard definition 480i. There were deleted scenes, a behind the scenes tour of the set with impromptu hijinks with the cast, and a "making of" documentary done at the time of the filming which gives far too much away of the plot.

Ron, Nature is showing "The Colorful Parrots of Oz" again this Sunday.  It looks great & I’ve set it to record, with concerns the picture won’t be exceptional.  You are lucky your PBS station has high-def.  I wasn’t aware any PBS station had it.

After you click on great you need to click on "This week on Nature: Parrots in the Land of Oz" to open the page.  There is a nice clip of the show to watch.

Yup..."Parrots in the Land of Oz" was the title.  I was "misremembering" by using "Colorful"....but, apropos!

I guess I am out of the loop lately, but where did this Tom Cruise (Scientology) interview originate? Was it from a TV news magazine, or one of the nightly entertainment programs, or somewhere else?

The original production is a lengthy film shown by the scientologists to visitors to their centers. The current show making the rounds is a slick UTube condensation/edit of the original. Sites like TMZ.com have picked up the clip and run with it. The "highlighting" of  Tom Cruise and Scientology is in response to Andrew Morton's new book on Cruise.

Hello, everyone.

DR JANE--Papa Bach was on Santa Monica Blvd, roughly across the street from the NuArt Theatre, just west of the SD Fwy.

Let it be known... I was no where near that Border's nor that Fred Meyer that DR JMK was just at.  No. Where. Near.

But otherwise....the "little old lady" COULD have been you?

Is that what you're saying?

DR GINNY--I enjoyed the article from PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY. Not only did a get a few new-author leads, but I enjoyed the insights into the book biz. Thanks!

I've never read the China Bayles books, but I have read Robin Paige, the Victorian series.

In other news, the old computer is up and running and everything seems good. I got my credits for the returned goods I sent to Gateway and since everything seems to be OK I went ahead and ordered the new computer.

According to tracking it should be delivered sometime today! Since I'll be going to the theatre tonight I won't be setting it up until tomorrow.

It's a Dell with Windows XP. I've just heard too many bad stories about Vista so I decided to stay with XP (Service Pack 2). We have many programs that do not work with Vista. I know this because friends use the same programs and they bought a new computer with Vista pre-installed and all the old programs don't work and there are no patches available. Their printer and scanner also don't work with Vista and the patches don't work!

I didn't know you could still get XP. I need a new computer and have also been avoiding Vista. One friend of mine was saying that he thinks that the pre-installed Vista would be OK, but it sounds like that's not the case. My friend used to be an operating system architect and was telling me about how Microsoft approaches operating system design. That rather cinched it. I'm planning to buy a Mac. But I'd take XP, which I'm currently running, over Vista any day!

DR elmore3003 may have a suggestion for a new addition to the cast.
