Bar-B-Q...now you're talkin' my language!
Most southerners or southern dwellers I know are very opinionated about BBQ, and there never seems to be a consensus about the best place in town, or the best style---the red sauce, the yellow mustard-based sauce or the vinegary style. I am always up for some good Q.
I like to go somewhere that has good sides, like collards, beans or brunswick stew or cornbread, but so far I haven't found the magic combination of BBQ I like that has collards I like.
My favorite at the moment is Fox Brothers in Atlanta. I like all their sides except the collards, which have a tomato base that's too spicy for my tastes; the people are friendly and you can sit outside. The downside is, now it's been discovered. (It's kind of in a no-man's land.) The Fox Brothers are passionate about what they do and that's what it takes.
I looked them up to get a link and see that gayot.com lists them as one of the top 10 BBQ restaurants in the country. Gayot (never heard of them but I'm sure DR Jose has) also has a place in Oakland on their list: Everett and Jones, and in NY they have Daisy May's.
