Backstage, I saw Rob and Joshie, then David Gursky, who was Rob's assistant on FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and I rode home with Ted Chapin of Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and the definitive book on FOLLIES. On my way out I spoke to Tally Sessions who had been in YANK! and Summer, one of my favorite cellists.

I had the time, so I also watched the making of documentary feature on JULIE & JULIA. Meryl was out of make-up, and it was such a contrast to see and hear her as herself rather than as Julia since I had just spent two hours with Julia. Some nice interviews with the cast and selected crew members. Yep, a puff piece undoubtedly, but you got the feeling they all genuinely liked one another.

I liked that Meryl got Stanley Tucci cast as Paul in the film. The producers say they weren't even considering him, but, of course, now they couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part.

Cranky students... and people who do not understand the definition of no....

Sounds like you've got two-year-olds in there tonight.

Yep and I work with two women who are 3-year olds...

ANYONE CAN WHISTLE sounded so wonderful, DR Elmore. Thanks so much for sharing this report with us. Also loved you shared a ride with Ted Chapin whose FOLLIES book I always love rediscovering every time I pick it up.

Back to0 my viewing report:

I next watched today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Oliver and Kyle were so adorable with the baby and the scenes with Gigi weren't as combative as I was expecting. The show is going to miss this potentially wonderful story once they're gone.

Then I watched last night's SOUTHLAND. Riveting episode (though the ending with the female cop was a little too pat for my taste). Acting was really terrific in this likely series finale episode.

I ended my evening watching tonight's HUMAN TARGET. It was a fun episode with Christopher protecting a British princess (modeled a bit on Princess Di).

Ted Chapin is one of my favorite people and it's rare I get a moment alone for a visit with him; he's one of the busiest men I know. I usually don't see him for more than a hug or a wave, so the ride home was the cherry on the sundae tonight. I love the FOLLIES book; I read it again last winter.

I wish I could have spent more time with Rob and Joshie, but they were exhausted from a rehearsal and tonight's dress. The show's in really good shape and it will be stunning by the weekend closing. It's being videotaped for the Lincoln Center Library Theatre Collection on Friday night.

My other good news is that I have a ticket for the May 3rd performance of THE FANTASTICKS (50th anniversary performance). Supposedly Harvey Schmidt will be there. I've missed him sicne he moved to Texas.

DR DakotaCelt - Yes!  Let's wait and see what the weather's like.  If it's good, the zoo; if not, the Museum Center at Union Terminal.  I'll send you a message with my cell phone number.

OK - this is about to go viral, so I can tell you all that, as of last Thursday (yes, April Fool's Day), Rob and Mary Linda are engaged:

The Big Announcement

They will probably wait to get married until Rob finishes his paramedic training next summer (2011).

Oh, I did have the presence of mind to record the OPRAH show today to see the GLEE folks, but I didn't get around to watching it. With that and tonight's UGLY BETTY plus IDOL from Tuesday night which I still haven't watched, I have a fair amount of stuff to try to attend to at some point tomorrow.

Great news on WHISTLE, Larry. I loved the video of Sutton singing the title song that was posted on broadway.com. It was so simple and affecting.

I will have to get "Julie & Julia" one of these days and watch it again. I really enjoyed it when I saw it at the theater. That was interesting news about Tucci. After watching Streep and him in "Devil Wore Prada," I would have thought many more people would naturally just want to see them work together. Hope they do another project soon.

They told us Thursday evening, but just now put it out there on Facebook.

Thanks to DR Druxy for clarifying which "Mammy" he ordered.

I was beginning to have doubts about my guesses of yesterday afternoon.

Perhaps, I thought, it was a made-for-TV movie of the story of Mammy Eisenhower!!!

;)

I'm glad I could clear up any confusion.

Well, Jolson's portrayal of Mamie E. was definitive, wasn't it?

I think my plan would be to come to see  George's production on April 30th.  Would there be time for a get-together after the Q&A?  I'd be leaving the following day.
