BK - Indeed, ROLLER DERBY is now at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, and they seem to be the only NYMF 2007 show at that venue.

We watched "The Prestige" last night.  I'm not too sure about it. At least I've been thinking about it a lot. That's a good thing.

Have you seen its "companion" The Illusionist?

Not as yet DerBrucer. I don't think it is on DVD here yet - or at least not for $10.

How nice - they can leave their sets in place!

I assume bribes do not count against the Equity-allowed  budget.

I thoroughly enjoyed the UK TV series "Lost Empires" which was about an illusionist in the Music Hall days.  My copy of the series was from the USA release.  Great viewing.

I see Jet Li has two films in post production & is currently filming a new one, THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR.  Sigh, Rachel Weiz will not be in the film.  Maria Bella will be Evelyn O'Connell.

Anyone besides me looking forward to the return of the mummy?

I much preferred THE ILLUSIONIST to PRESTIGE.

Is "Lost Empires" from 1986, starring Colin Firth?

Curious - The Illusionist was issued on DVD a month before The Prestige.

Yes DR Jane.  That's the one.  John Castle is excellent!

BK - Indeed, ROLLER DERBY is now at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, and they seem to be the only NYMF 2007 show at that venue.

Scenario - the ultra-backed Roller Derby can't make their show fit in any of the NYMF theaters - they bellyache until NYMF allows them to pay for a venue that will house their show, hence alleviating the need to store their set, hence allowing them a completely unfair advantage over every single other NYMF show, in terms of budget, set design, lighting design, band placement, sound, and just about everything else.  Since they're the only show in that venue, shall we hazard a guess whether they'll have to tech and open on the same day?  Shall we hazard a bloody guess?  Will they now have a week to tech?  Does Equity know what's going on?  Will someone inform Equity of what's going on?  Should this show be allowed to get away with this?  Stay tuned.

I usually wait for the DVDs to be out in the cheap bins. (Reasonably quickly these days). I tend to only see the "Blockbuster" high profile films on display - usually I'm not interested in them.  I'll check the shelves for "The Illusionist".

I suspect I purchased my copy through Amazon's Other Sellers DR Jane. You can often get very good prices. It's a show we wanted to have.
(as is the recently purchased "Camamile Lawn")

Well since none of the original creative team (save Frasier) is intact - and Rachel took a hike because of creative differences - things don't look so good.

Unlike most folks on this site, we purchase very few DVD's.  One in fact.  We have Basil Rathborne as Sherlock Holmes, a gift from Bryan, and our favorite film CASABLANCA.

I'm still hopeful.  I like the teaming of Hannah and Fraser.

(Maybe that should remake Ishtar)

Naturally -  it's a chick-flick romance with fantastic visuals from central Europe! Us Engineer types prefer Frankensteinian Labs in Coloradan wildnerness with butch duels to the death!

Does Equity know what's going on?  Will someone inform Equity of what's going on?  Should this show be allowed to get away with this?  Stay tuned.

BK - see my note above about the judicious use of bribes.

der Brucer

Ya know - with all my Political Campaign expertise, maybe I should comsider "consulting" on theatrical productions.

IMHO Brendan Fraser is one of the few current actors who is truly loved by the camera. He lights up any film - no matter how slight the material.

("Gods And Monsters" is one of the Great films of the last decade - I don't consider that as slight)
