For Vixmom:

Yesterday we had a wonderful old-fashioned monsoon thunderstorm. It hit in the afternoon and poured rain for about a half hour.

Here is an article I found in the paper this morning:

It's an AP story.  I don't think it's a big deal that I didn't return the call, but they put it in the article.

I totally agree with what others said last night. It give a misrespresentation of what happened. You didn't not return their call. To me that means that the person has no interest in responding. They called you late and didn't give you enough time to respond would be more accurate. :)

I would loved to see Lawrence of Arabia in its 70mm glory. Other than an IMAX screen I don't believe there are many theaters left that can truly project and 70mm movie properly in all its glory.

When I last saw it in Montreal many years ago I knew there was only one cinema that could properly show it and it eventually did play there. In my opinion it as shown properly so much that the desert scenes showed the age of the screen it was being projected on.

Good morning, all! I am sleeping terribly, and I must say that I am not happy to learn that this week, which has me moving things from the McGlinnventory to Toyland and moving Toyland out of town are going to occur in another heat wave.

Last night, I trned off the lights at 10pm and was up and down, playing at the computer, until 2am. this is not good. Sp, today, I am doing ittle and working about the apartment. I'll finish watching the second season of MIRANDA and begin something else.

Good morning, all.

Got back from Blobfest at 4 a.m. and had a solid 6-hour sleep, my first after 24 hours up and about since I actually woke up at 4 a.m. yesterday morning and couldn't properly get back to sleep, even with a huge day ahead of me.  It turned out to be a great day.  A Great Day on a Good Saturday.  No thanks to the New Jersey Turnpike.  But all is well, even with just those six hours sleep.  Might catch a nap later, but fortunately, while I have much puttering and lots of ketchup to do, it will nevertheless be a day of welcome rest and recovery.

Interesting.  Is this a new trend, or a trend that's trying to get off the ground, performing and/or re-recording film orchestrations for Broadway musicals?  That's something of interest to me, even though there aren't that many of them I really love.  DR Elmore had mentioned something about this the other day in regard to SHOW BOAT and a couple of others, that I'd meant to follow up on.

Celeste Holm has died. I had heard from friends on pre-Broadway production of THE GRASS HARP in Michigan that she was the meanest lady in show biz. She was friendly, but eagle-eyed and wary, when I met her sometime between 1979  and 1981 at the Drama Book Shop. She was doing a regional production of LADY IN THE DARK in England and was looking for other Weill songs to interpolate into the production!

Madonna sucks. There's not one iota of acting in any of her vocals. Whether she's dying or winning an election, she's auto-tuned out of any sense of drama. And the stupid whore has the vanity to take over "Another suitcase In Another Hall" so she's the only woman on the soundtrack? What a pig.

I'm sorry to hear that. I just watched in "Champagne for Caesar" the other night. I think eagle-eyed and wary and both good descriptions of how she presented herself in her performances, too. That's why she's so good in "All About Eve," because she's sucked in even when she knows she should know better.

My Fair Lady in concert at Albert Hall. (Using the film orchestration)

Thanks for posting this!  I wonder why it says "Part_1" when it seems to be the whole thing.  Anyway, it's great!

How's Annalene as Liza? She's recording DEAREST ENEMY!

I haven't listened to much of it yet, but I was able to download it and convert it to a single four-hour MP3. :-\ The sound quality is pretty darned good, though...from the little bit that I checked.

I would have no idea what to do with an MP3.

You can play it on your computer, or someone who is more technically advanced than I am, can break it up into tracks and put them on regular CDs.

Ahhh.  But can't I listen to it on my computer now?

Yes, you may, if that was a serious question. Just click on the white icon on the left side of the image of Albert Hall and it will load and play just like any other program on the iPlayer.

Well, we watched GPB (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes). Nothing special, not bad, but not something I need to see again. Jane Russell's number with the Olympic team in the pool is the best thing in the movie. I got tired and annoyed with the whole Tiara thing, Lorelei/Marilyn's stupidity about whether or not she "owned" the tiara wore thin quickly.

I think George downloaded it and made an mp3 out of it so that so he could save it to his computer and listen to it any time he wants to. It will only be on the iPlayer until until 8:22PM on Sat, 21 Jul 2012 although the program will be repeated on Tuesday 17th July at 2pm (London time) and that will be on the iPlayer for another week.

DR TCB - no show on Sunday.  We did Sunday matinees for a couple of years and got about 60-80 people.....but we were NOT selling out our regular performances.....so I said....those matinees were really taking audiences away from our other performances.

Of course there were naysayers......but it hasn't made a difference in our total numbers to NOT do a matinee, and we save one night's royalty....and the actors get a rest.

Years ago, we used to do one matinee on either the second or third week of the run.  Now we have matinees every Sunday of the run.  One of our theaters does Saturday and Sunday matinees.  Two shows on Saturday?  I think that is a bit of overkill.

I bought another lawn mower yesterday.  The expensive one I bought with the key start isn't working and to heavy for me to lift into Bonnie.  I have an electric but with the way the grass is growing I have to mow just about every other weekend and it's a royal pain to have to pull the electric cord everywhere.  It catches on everything so I bought a very little, light mower but was going to have to put it together.  I didn't do so well at that so I took it back to the store and then the lady tells me, oh, you could have put it on "will call" and we would assemble it FOR you.

Now understand, when I bought it I asked how much it would cost to have it assembled and was assured that it would be "easy" for me to do it.  Well, it wasn't and I've been in a ticked off mood the rest of today because of it.  Having the darn thing hit me in the head when I trying to put the handle on didn't help matters.

Anyway, they are going to assemble it for me and I can pick it up on Tuesday.

About to watch a Danish thriller - film, not TV.  And then I have to begin thinking about an unpleasant e-mail I will eventually have to write - figuring out when and figuring out how.  This has to do with the kid I worked with for the last year and a half and the completely odd behavior of her parents, which caused me to need a break from that amusement park ride.  I'm sure they've somehow, to their child at least, made me the bad guy, but I've done nothing but try to be helpful to both daughter and family and have given his child not only the gift of a great act, but seventeen shows in a row where I have given her material to challenge and grow.

Today, they did her act in Palm Springs.  According to the relentless Facebook posts of her mother, it played well.  But since I have not received an apology or an explanation for their behavior (which basically was trying to do a 180 on someone who's been very good to them - it was baffling, and people who know both parties, after having been read the series of e-mails, all felt that I was being treated weirdly, poorly, and not being told the truth), I'm afraid that they've taken their last visit to land that is the title of the show, at least in its present incarnation.  I control my writing, I control the title of the show, I control half the arrangements in the show, and I control the two songs of mine that she does - all of which I will not allow them to do.  I know we were talking about New York, but I'm not letting it be done there without my supervision, and I don't feel like supervising anything right now.  So, at some point soon, I'm going to have to write a very long e-mail, all thanks to off-putting behavior (at one point the mother said to me, "You're putting us on the defensive," to which I replied, "I'm putting YOU on the defensive?"  Hilarious.  So, I'm pondering exactly what the e-mail will say, and how best to phrase it while remaining completely calm.

Have you heard anymore from Angie?  From Anderson?  He said on his program that they would follow up to make sure thiings happened.  I wonder when they planned on following up?
The AC company said they found a replacement part for my AC and will be here on Friday to fix that.

Good news!

The My Fair Lady broadcasts cannot be "downloaded".  I'm not sure what George meant when he said he downloaded the program. Also, it seems to me after looking at the BBC3 schedule that the program is, indeed, in two parts. If you look at the schedule (scroll down to 7pm)

BBC3 Schedule Saturday July 14 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_three/20120714)

You will see a program at 7pm which says

BBC Proms - 2012 Season :
Prom 02 - My Fair Lady - Part 1

At 8:40pm you will see another listing which says

BBC Proms - 2012 Season :
Prom 02 - My Fair Lady - Part 2

So George may only have Part 1 even though he said it sounds complete. George go to the end of Part 1 and listen and then listen to Part 2 and see if there is material you don't have.

The broadcasts can be recorded as you listen to them if you have the appropriate software and depending on how you set up that software you can save the file as a wave or an mp3 file.

Or, as TCB mentioned, you can be very nice to Dear George and ask him for a copy either on CD or he can mail it to you as an mp3 file. He could put it on

SendSpace (http://www.sendspace.com/)

or some other file transfer site since it will probably be a big file. You can then download from there and have a copy all to yourself.

How about the truth? They can't take control of intellectual property that doesn't belong to them. They would face the same with any other artist with whom they will work.

Hi everyone - sorry to be E&T this weekend.  Lots of stuff going one, etc.  I'll do my best to catch up.

Highlight of the weekend was that I just changed the pressure/temperature valve on my water heater.   It was dripping.  Now, it's not.  I may consider a second career.

Watching "Lady Jane." Love the musical score  and Helena Bonham Carter, but the movie really does look as if it had been filmed on no budget with costumes leftover from every other British historical drama ever made.

For Vixmom:

Yesterday we had a wonderful old-fashioned monsoon thunderstorm. It hit in the afternoon and poured rain for about a half hour.

Here is an article I found in the paper this morning:

Ginny 0  I keep meaning tro tell you  Norwich is where Vixdad's Dad's family lived for generations - they moved during WWII when Vixdad's Dad's Dad was given a choice of joining the army or being a bus driver in Coventry  ( they were considered equally hazardous occupations) -  he chose to move the family to Coventry and drive the bus

Had an e-mail response from you-know-who.  He did not recognize me, apparently - he knew I was there but was confused because it was such a big group.  He was waiting for someone to call him Steve so he'd know.  He apologized, so all is well.

In case I missed an early post

My Fair Lady in concert at Albert Hall. (Using the film orchestration)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01kt5b2/BBC_Proms_2012_Season_Prom_02_My_Fair_Lady_Part_1/

That is what I thought.  That is why I didn't know why I wanted to make it an MP3.

I had to make it an MP3 so that I could keep it and play it at work. :)

Tom said,

I think George downloaded it and made an mp3 out of it so that so he could save it to his computer and listen to it any time he wants to. It will only be on the iPlayer until until 8:22PM on Sat, 21 Jul 2012 although the program will be repeated on Tuesday 17th July at 2pm (London time) and that will be on the iPlayer for another week.

What Ben said. :D

I wonder how one does what George did.  Is it complicated?

I don't have one program that does it all, so it's kind of complicated, but because I've been doing it so long, I know what I'm doing.  I also know that there are now easier ways to do all of this, but I don't want to learn something new...just yet. ;)

Anyway, several years ago, I bought Replay Media Catcher (http://applian.com/replay-media-catcher/index_youtube.php).  This is a flash video recorder/downloader that can also capture some audio tracks.  This actually captured the broadcast as a flash video file (.flv).  I then use YouTube Downloader (http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/) (it's free) to convert the .flv file to an .mp3 file.

And it turns out that when I captured the first part, it actually got the whole thing...first act, intermission (interval) and second act, all together in one file.  So, I didn't need to get the other parts separately. :)

I actually have a Sendspace account, but it's a free account, which can only save/send individual files up to 300 MB in size (the minimum per month cost is $8.99).  The "My Fair Lady" mp3 is 438 MB.  I could put the whole thing on a CD-ROM and send it to you.  It's one track, but it's the whole thing. :)

And speaking of sending things...I realized (and finally accepted) that I have lost my list of various movies that I was going to send to people, so if you wanted the Tony Awards, 1776, the 1929 Show Boat or the 1951 Show Boat, PLEASE let me know again and I'll MAKE SURE that I don't lose my list. :-\

AND if anyone else want these even if you didn't indicate that before, I'll be happy to send them to you, too.

Apologies for the brain fart. ::)
