Regarding my missing ex-neighbor.  He has been found, by accident, but sadly not alive.  He is the other car in this ... story..

Well, I'm off shortly for a belated birthday dinner with friends, one of whom had his birthday last night. I've eaten out three times in the last three days and I hope this is better than either of those two meals.

The first, takeout on my birthday, was inedible Mexican seafood. The butter garlic octopus was like erasers with no trace of butter or garlic. An empanada had a sour taste, bitter taste, as if vinegar had been dumped on it. The rest was worse.

Then last night at a steak house, the steak had no flavor, the fried shrimp tasted as if they had been cooked in rancid oil and a friend's chicken-fried chicken tasted as if it had been dipped in Lemon Joy dishwashing liquid. We've been calling it Lemon Joy Chicken all day.

But tonight it's a Brazilian steakhouse, men in gaucho outfits bearing skewers of meat. Should be good. Boy, do I hope it's good.

I don't do movie theaters, so I guess I won't see the Phantom show -- hopefully it will be released on video some day.

I like lamb shanks in the evening or any time of day.

Me too.

*I also like veal shanks like the Osso Buco at Becco in NYC. Truly one of my favorite dishes all around.

There was a very touching scene at the start of the Texas Rangers / Tampa Bay playoff game this afternoon.  At a Rangers game back in July, a father had fallen to his death trying to catch a ball for his son that was tossed from the field by the boy's idol Josh Hamilton.  Today the son, accompanied by his mother, threw out the first pitch to Josh Hamilton.  It was a very touching moment.

That's so sad.  I'm sorry, Jane.

Thanks. This is a better article, and they are now basically identifying my neighbor. http://news.yahoo.com/calif-man-found-alive-children-wreck-210416559.html  These cars seemed to have gone off the embankment on different days. :(

Not the news you wanted, I know. Sorry to hear that.

Thanks.  Honestly, it is what I expected.  I'm glad they found him.  The biggest shock is where he was found, in the opposite direction expected.

DR Jane, so sorry about your friend, but at least the family has an answer.  Maybe they won't know why he was where he was, but he isn't lost anymore.   I think having no idea would be horrible

Today I switched from Qwest to Cableone for my phone.  I was very surprised to discover that the reception is much clearer.  I guess it's the log that's still hanging from the phone wire in front of my house.

I really don't notice that the cable is faster, but I'm on wireless.  I'll have to plug in the lap top and see what happens.   I couldn't put the modem and router by the desktop because there's no phone jack there, so...I either have to use a USB wireless card for internet or just use my laptop for internet.  I have a wireless card at teh office, so I'll probably keep it handy, but don't know that I'll use it.

Had a nice dinner with Bridget, Druxy, and Mark Rothman - we're being friendly because who has time at this point in life to not be friendly - it's a waste of energy and I'm not having any more of that - friendly is better.

Checked out the dealer room - lots of 'em will be there tomorrow - I only knew a couple tonight - hoping I know some tomorrow, too.  Then I set my table up and they locked up that room good and tight.  Then I did five miles on the treadmill - difficult but necessary after the dinner I had - medium-size Caesar salad with chicken and a side of mac and cheese that I shared.  For dessert a scoop or raspberry sorbet.

I am very pleased to see September come to a close.  I worked like crazy this month.  It paid off and Edith and I got a lot accomplished and we were really working well as a team the whole month, but it was very stressful.   With the exception of one big hearing that will only last one day, October will be much calmer.  Still a lot of work to do, but at least the stress level has been turned down a little.  In October Edith will be taking about 10 days vacation to go to her brother's wedding and I'll be going to a seminar in Chicago the same week.  It will be a bit of rest after a good but crazy month

The weather is going to be beautiful here tomorrow.  I'm thinking that I'll go for a drive and take some photos for DR Laura.   Or, i could send some real leaves

Oh, yes! Autumn photos, please!

My sister was laughing at how low-maintenance I was when I visited her in the fall one year. I was so happy just picking up leaves in her yard and pressing them in magazines.

Sorry to hear that the other person was your neighbo(u)r.

I saw the report on the news and there was no mention of the other driver.

Well they say when you stop looking that's when you find it.  Maybe the same thing applies to rain clouds
