I, for one, hope this finally signals that girls and women who have been wearing the disgusting low jeans have finally started to look in the mirror to see what they look like in them.  Horrid.  Get rid of 'em forever.  And follow that with thongs.  Nyetski to the thongski.

Jane - Jeans that fit at the waist are hard to find around here. I find comfortable jeans hard to find, period. So to find ones that are comfortable, not too long on me (you must have that problem, too), fit at the waist AND are hugely discounted (less than half-price) - when I wasn't even looking - just happened to wander into the store - is an Event.

Sorry to rain on your parade, bk, but there must be a reason this style was priced so very low. ...Like maybe nobody is buying it.
As for thongs - don't hold your breath.  (I can hardly wait to see what the DRs do with that sentence!)

Media check:

VHS: Nothing. I forgot to tape the movies I wanted to see this week! Argh!

CD: Some very nice Gershwin CDs from Elmore3003.

DVD: Courtesy of Hollywood Video I will be having myself a little foriegn film fest. From Spain I have KM.0 (KILOMETER ZERO)....from Japan I have GODZILLA, MOTHRA AND KING GHIDORA: GIANT MOSNTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK....and from India my Bollywood movie of the week is BAHAREN PHIR BHI AAYENGI. A nifty little soap opera from 1962 about a lovely newspaper editor in love with a handsome reporter. Unfortunatley the lovely newspaper editors equally lovely sister is also in love with the handsome reporter! Yikes! Sounds like trouble to me.

BTW - RE the Mystery of the Phantom Hospital Bill - I've looked through my records and I have never received a bill from the hospital for DD's procedure. I got bills from everybody else, from the surgeon to the Anesthesia Group (that's what they call themselves - like the Supremes) to the guy who held the door open to the OR. But no actual hospital bill. It never occurred to me that there was one due. Well, I guess there was. And this may be it. (Although$10,000+ seems a bit excessive.) Anyway, the irony is that the operation would have been done free by the surgeon who did the original surgery in Boulder and SCREWED up by not putting the SCREW in Rachel's knee properly. By the time it came out and wound up floating around inside her knee (less than a year after the original surgery) Rachel was in SF and had the TOSS (Taking Out the Stupid Screw) surgery done there. I told surgeon #1 that I was not a litigious person and wasn't going to sue him as long as he covered whatever my out-of-pocket expenses would be. He agreed - sort of. Not an out and out "Of course!" - but as close as one can get. I paid all the bills and sent him the receipts for reimbursement - under $300 - the insurance paid the rest. Never heard from him. I was recently thinking that I should follow up, but haven't had the time.
If somehow this bill is real (unlikely - but who knows) and he doesn't pay it, as well as the others - I'm suing him for malpractice. Luckily,  DD's boyfriend's dad is a lawyer who specializes in just this sort of thing. And if I sued the doc I'd ask for the full price of the operation, so I could reimburse my insurance, plus all sorts of other goodies. And all this because he wouldn't cough up $300.
My only question is - who the @#$@# needs the aggravation.

You are welcome Jed.

Dan-in-Toronto you have an interesting friend.

Panni, while waiting for our car window to be replaced we spent 4½ hours at the Santa Monica Promenade, two hours of which the stores were open and we shopped.  I found three pairs of jeans, too low for both you and Bruce.  Relax Bruce, they are definitely not worn with thongs.  The Levi store had only waist high or highrise or lowrise.  I compromised with their definition of highrise.  In fact, I’m wearing a pair right now.  What I do like about them is they are a stretchy fabric and expand with me when I eat.  I do fret when I buy the lower jeans and go on and on how I’m too fat, this to the even fatter, much younger sales girls in their even lower lowrise pants and higher cropped tops.  It really is rather comical.  ;D

Of course I know how exciting it is to find jeans that fit well and make you happy, especially at a good price.

Just got back from Paris, France
All they do is sing and dance
All they've got there is romance
What a tragedy
Every boulevard has lovers
Every lover's in a trance
The poor people of Paree

I feel sorry for the French
Every guy has got a wench
Every couple's got a bench
Kissing shamelessly
Night and day they're making music
While they're making love in French
The poor people of Paree

Milk or water from the sink
Make a true Parisian shrink
Wine is all he'll ever drink
And it worries me
For with wine as cheap as water
Oh, it makes one stop and think
The poor people of Paree

Sister met a boy named François
Had the craziest émoi                     -- had to adapt!!!!
And the day they parted there
He cried bitterly
François was there to bid her farewell
But he brought his new girl, Claire
The poor people of Paree

So don't go to Paris, France
Not unless you like to dance
Not unless you want romance
Like those poor inhabitants of Paree

 ;D

I'm young, blast it, and I'm supposed to be technologically savvy! Why can't I figure this stupid cell phone out? It makes me SO mad, I've already talked to Rich, Susan, and Amy from At&t Wireless on the phone and they've all explained it in stupid terms, but it still takes me 5 years to text someone.

Speaking of which...text messages should be free. Hmpf.

Going to see Shrek 2 tomorrow.

OH! I forgot to mention...Tuesday night my friend Alix received an email congratulating her on being accepted into The Urban Retreat Playwriting Camp started by Steven Sondheim! Hundreds of kids apply to go to this camp and they pick around 10 I believe...Alix applied and was accepted, and is now spending a week in NYC in July, seeing shows, meeting directors and writers, and writing her own short play. At the end of the week various performers come and do a reading of each play. Isn't that exciting? I'm so happy for her!

Thank you to everyone who replied to my cousin question. Two of my cousins (sisters) announced 2 weeks ago that they're pregnant. Neither is married and they both have horrible relationship reputations. I really hope they get married soon, for the sake of my unborn relatives!

I've also just found out that my crazy aunt is going to Lebanon with her husband (A horrible man who she married a year ago so he could get his green card, who is now being accused of being a member of Al Qaeda) for a month, and leaving her daughters (my half cousins) with neighbors the entire time. She is INSANE! We're going to court to see if we can have them stay with us until she returns. Can you imagine? This man is dangerous, she had a restraining order against him for a month or two because he threatened to kill her and her 4 kids...he'll probably have her killed over there. So stupid...some people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
C'que tu m'plais j'en suis dingue
Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,

Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
J'en ai le vertige
Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
Un volcan dans la peau
Un frisson d'un seul coup
Qui nous court dans les genoux
Je vous l'dis entre nous
C'est pas du mou !

Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
L'amour c'est un délire
Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,

Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
L'amour quand ça vous paume
Ah ! Dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc, dis donc,
C'que j'vais gâter mon môme
Ah ! non c'est pas du pour
Je suis bien mordue pour
Ta jolie gueule d'amour
Ma gueule à moi.

To clear that up...My uncle "Bob" had two children with "Sue". Bob unfortunately committed suicide five years ago, never having married Sue. Sue has since married "Joe", a complete PSYCHO (the green card man), who is now taking her to Lebanon.

My uncle is not a psycho. This man is. It sounded fuzzy when I reread.

SS is says a lot about your parents characters that they should petition to keep four children with them during this time.  I’m glad I returned tonight to read your post.

Just finished watching a movie that was so mind-bogglingly awful it boggled even MY mind, which isn't easily boggled.  At this time I will only say it was directed by a major director and features many famous names in it.  I will have a full report in tomorrow's notes.

Don't try, Tom!

This is slang and it is even outdated now!

Dingue is "crazy"
Gringue is "flirt".

When I was a kid, I ate candy, popcorn, and drank colas at the movies all the time. But when I started reviewing films, I stopped the snacking at the theater because I did take notes during the film. Eating just got in the way. Now, even though I don't review films professionally any more, I still don't eat at the theater.

Nice article about Julie Andrews and her participation in the PBS series this fall.

But, once again, the League of NY Theaters and the American Theater Wing did not see fit to honor Julie with a lifetime achievement Tony. Diana Ross and Barry Manilow, two virtuoso geniuses of the stage, have special Tonys, and Julie doesn't. Absurd!

No one has answered my question from this morning regarding Ramar of the Jungle.  "Does anyone remember this early fifties TV show?" Shall I take that to mean no one remembers the show?

I spent the evening watching WHERE THE BOYS ARE, of all things. Lovely transfer but it kills me that this movie was chosen over the next two THIN MAN features in that Warner on-line voting.

I'm sorry, DR Jane, I do remember the show vaguely from Sunday afternoon runs of "Jungle Theater" where the local station went through all the TARZAN and BOMBA features and finally got to RAMAR.

The Tony people sure don't like Julie ever since she turned down her nomination for V/V.

I think the reason is there.... :'(

Oh, I quite agree with that... and she should have stayed with that show much longer and forgot about V/V -- which killed her voice! -- in my opinion!

But we can't redo the past! Only in movies......
