...The JOYOUS thing here is that we live in a country with Freedom of Speech, guaranteed by LAW.
That freedom includes the right to speak your mind over such nonsense as the teddy bear issue. If someone is offended, he has every right to say so. But not at the expense of silencing the other voice.
Abandon that freedom and we will all be subjugated to voodoo nonsense the likes of which will destroy the world.
Now, how do we go about explaining this to our nation's lawyers?
Because there are people in our very nation who will sue other people over displays of religious interpretations of Christmas.
And this extends to the music that we listen to, as well.
Listen carefully to the muzak piped through the speakers at the malls, and at your other favorite shopping places. You will hear Christmas music played constantly from Thanksgiving through Christmas Day.
What you will
not hear is Christmas
carols.
This is because the people who program the muzak have been cowed into submission, fearing that someone will take offence at the carols, at the suggestion that the holiday has a religious interpretation. Thus, we who work the stores must listen to endless repetitions of "Silver Bells" and "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" and "Jingle Bells" and "Santa Baby" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and "White Christmas" and "Blue Christmas" and "It's the Hap-Happiest Time of the Year" and on and on over and over with a limited repetoire because we must never include anything that speaks of Christ because
someone might be offended! And sue!I just get so sick of it. Bleh.
