Re: Sarah Jessica

I totally think that she SHOULD be used to being up on stage.  But I didn't think she handled it too well.  That was why I made the comment.

I get that Hugh was playing a part.  But it just seems to me that if each number has 2 minutes, then he should not have an extra 5 minutes to ad lib.

All she was asked to do was shake her booty like him. She had a dress that wouldn't cooperate. She did what she could. She did get up there.

Jennifer, Hugh Jackman is one of the biggest stars in the world at the moment, and CBS has him on a three hour special. I don't think it's TOO unreasonable to think they're going to give him some time to deliver some ratings.

Acting "gay" would not be a problem to most Australian male performers - they are not so hung up about image.  Eric Bana would not have a problem either. (td)
After all, Dame Edna is our patron Saint.

And you have hit the nail on the head, sir!  On another board, well, the only other board i regularly post on, most people want their idols to BE GAY, in addition to playing gay, and if they're not, or they show the slightest hint of "i'm only acting," then, they get angry and irate because the person is pronouncing their "straighthood!"
It's such a strange double standard, so, i avoid discussing it at all (on that board, which is part of a certain magazine favorite of mine).

Amanda Plummer won for AGNES OF GOD.

Christopher Plummer (father) and Tammy Grimes (mother) have each won twice.

DR MattH, I liked what Hugh did with the extra time, and it was fun.  But if the other nominated shows have 2 minutes, did they decide to give him longer?  Or did he just take the time?

Btw, you West Coasters are slacking.  Have they done Best Score yet?

Can someone please list ALL the awards given out so far (as many categories as you can remember).

It's hard to talk when we don't want to spoil.

Plus I must go to bed very soon.

Regarding LL Cool J:  validates my conviction to never trust anyone who wears dark glasses AND a hat indoors.

Sorry, I thought the bit with him and Miss Channing was embarrassing for all involved, the viewing audience most of all.

I must imagine that my friend Stephen Schwartz is not very happy at this moment.

I must disagree about the Wonderful Town number, S. Woody - I thought it was awful.  One of Bernstein's worst, and not served well by Miss Murphy, who is not my idea of amusing.  I thought the choreography was okay at best.  Not like the old days when we had great numbers from even not-great shows.

Ave. Q is the big surprise of the evening.

He's got to be seeing Michael Jackson's dermatologist.  He gets lighter every time I see him.

Re the actors winning the Leading Actor awards, when thanking their wives:

Strange, how they didn't identify them by name, merely by relationship.  Strange and sad, as if the relationship is more important than the person in that relationship.  Of course, the Best Leading Actress in a Musical didn't thank her husband by name either.

I mean, Jane has Keith.  Orr has Joe.  I have der Brucer.  Charles has Julieanne.  They all have names.  They are individuals, not the roles that they play in our lives.

Something is missing here.

Well, the show was moving right along. Not many people had to be nudged off the stage, so they seemed to have the time. It wouldn't have surprised me at all for the producers to tell him to stretch. I don't believe for a second Hugh would think of doing something like that on his own. He's from Australia but he's NOT Russell Crowe.

Well, your friend Stephen Schwartz autographed the first verse of "For Good" for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, the party which continued on into the Tony Awards party. . .I think that Mr. Schwartz is quite sweet to have done that.

LOL....it is a mystery DRJENNIFER...maybe it was just thought of as an extension of his opening number...all Hugh all the time.  And who can object?

MRBK I agree about the WONDERFUL TOWN number, okay dancing, but not a showcase for score or soloist!

As I posted earlier, I was not fond of "Swing" and didn't think the dancing was all that special nor Ms. Murphy very appealing at all.

The ONLY numbers I felt effective were the ASSASSINS and AVENUE Q numbers giving a good idea what the show was along with THE BOY FROM OZ because Hugh Jackman IS the show.

The ASSASSINS number was more entertaining than the entire production of the show I saw...and Q and BOY FROM OZ were all fun to watch...and might inspire me to buy a ticket.  CAROLINE OR CHANGE and WONDERFUL TOWN....no.

RLP is being too quiet.

. . .and what Mr. Jackman did on the awards show with the number, is what he does EVERY SINGLE PERFORMANCE:  takes an audience member onto the stage to dance with him during THAT NUMBER!  it represented the show as well as represented the nominee.

Poor Stephen Schwartz is in the same situation with Julie Andrews, Rob Marshall, Jerry Mitchell: lots of Tony nominations and no wins.

I have a dumb question:

Why was the number from Caroline or Change called "Lott's Wife?"  What does the show have to do with Trent Lott, or his wife, for that matter?

 ;)
