I couldn't get past Ava Gardner calling Ben Cartwright "Father...."

It was like those flashbacks on BONANZA when Lorne Greene would wear a terrible dark toupee and pretend to be young.

Those shows were some of my favorites though.....when we found out that Adam's mother, Elizabeth, died in childbirth....then Ben & Adam (age 6) went west and he met Inger.....their son was Hoss/Eric, and she was killed in a brutal Indian attack when Hoss was about 6....and then he married Marie or Felicia (she was called by both names) a high-spirited French girl from New Orleans....and Joseph Francis/Little Joe was born.  When Little Joe was about six....Marie died when she was thrown by a horse.

Yikes.  That's more than I ever knew about the show.  But we always watched it.  And I now haven't seen one single episode since the 1960s.

I sometimes think of "Lorne Greene" when Sally says "I should have worn green" in FOLLIES.

Is the IRS spending thing off-limits?

i just liked this headline

$4 million conference taught IRS employees how to be ‘direct,’ ‘honest,’ ‘open,’ ‘transparent’

I liked Michael Douglas a lot with Mr Karl Malden in STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO.

Also in:

Adam At 6 A.M.
Wall Street - he and Charlie Sheen were so good together in that movie
The China Syndrome
Romancing the Stone
Wonder Boys

Two things I learned from the CHARLIE BROWN production photos:

Snoopy didn't have his shoes on Monday night & Schroeder needed a shave.

Nobody who knew her introduced themselves while I was there (for 2 performances), but the people who now own her childhood home were there opening night.

They were very gracious.  Not only did they give me a tour of the house (formerly a bed/breakfast), but they also allowed an actress, who is trying to put together a production of LOMBARD in Austin, to spend the night in Carole's old room.  The actress had flown in for one day just to see the play.

Nice people.

Good morning, all!  Oy! It was a really bad sleepless night between 10:30pm, when I went  to bed, and 2:30am, when I last checked the clock. I could not settle in, and around 1:30, when i was finally settling, the damned ghost decided to play with my printer.  There is nothing more unsettling than sleeping machinery revving up without personal interference.

So, my schedule is shot to hell, and my plans gang aft agley. I do have some score edits to do here, and I get to those shortly.

DR Chas, I laughed at the MIKADO reference, if no one else did!

DR Laura, yes, it was Adam that everyone was welcoming as our new DR! I kept looking for a post from him.  I'm very happy to see DR singdaw back, and new members Kate and Caitlynne - I'm sure I spelled that incorrectly, and I apologize. I won't even try to spell her HHW name!

And that's my news. I need coffee.

And meds.

Finally got the nice Canon CanoScan scanner (how many times can you say that?) connected and working.

The day shot was scanned from the "textured" 3x5 print (I should find the 35mm negative and scan that instead), the second from a 35mm slide.

TOD:

While I don't place Michael Douglas at the top of any list of favorite actors, I almost always enjoy the movies he's in, even if they're really sub-par, due to his presence.  Somehow he and the movies go together to make enjoyable entertainment.  Favorites of the films would be the somewhat more serious CHINA SYNDROME and WALL STREET.

I'd forgotten all about STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, DR JRand62.  I know I watched it now and then, but don't remember much about it.

DR DRUXY - I am not sure it's mentioned in your play, but Carole and Clark visited a rather famous medium here in Indianapolis - I am not sure if this was before or after they married - and I think she was cautioned against flying, although this was before the War.

And of interest to other readers, I am sure you have seen them....here are some of the last photos taken of Carole during her visit to Indiana, and an interview with the photographer who was with her....during the hours when your play takes place.  They are lovely photos.

http://photographyinterviews.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Of course the article is incorrect in referring to her as an "Academy Award" winning actress....and I am not sure why the photographer would send the photos to Clark Gable at Columbia Pictures.....  :o

I have a line in the play that says a "psychic" told Carole's mother (also killed in the crash) to stay off of planes in 1942.

I do also remember THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. I can recall one episode where a girl, possibly hitch-hiking, was standing along the side of a road and someone kills her in a most gruesome fashion. I am thinking they set her on fire. I never watched the show again after that.
