Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up, down, up, down, and not it's time for you to post until the up/down cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FLEER!
-
Happy Friday, everyone!
-
I treated myself to a viewing of "Mary Poppins" this evening....first time seeing it on my HDTV. It looks REALLY good and the sound is terrific.
-
I have some Fleer trading cards.
-
What's that....are you sniggering? How dare you fleer at my jape!
How dare my jape make you fleer!
-
DR Singdaw: When you finally get around to reading this, remember what I posted above:
I once had a neighbor whose cat was run over by a man who lived down the street. The man went to my neighbor, explained what happened and expressed his deepest regrets.
"May I replace your cat?" the man asked my neighbor.
"I don't know," my neighbor answered hesitantly. "How are you at catching mice?"
-
Fleer all you want!
-
I have tried to sleep, but am still awake so I figured I would read the notes.
Back to sleeping ( hopefully )
-
I have tried to sleep, but am still awake so I figured I would read the notes.
Back to sleeping ( hopefully )
The notes would have worked to keep you awake, but the last few posts surely brought on the Sandman!

Oh! Something good did happen yesterday:
UPS delivered as I was leaving for the day. The delivery man handed me an Amazon.com package right outside the front door. It was my "The Yogi Bear Series" DVD!
Also, USPS brought fun stuff: Three seasons of "Touch of Evil" with Robson Green and the HD DVD of Joss Whedon's "Serenity."
-
Like Adriana Patti, I most (hopefully) find some sleep.
Night'all!
-
DVD "The Secret Army" (BBC series)
CDs: Shine Through my Dreams (Ivor Novello)
Marilyn Hill Smith sings Ivor Novello
Soundtrack: Gosford Park.
-
I am once again listening to Mrs. Miller.
I am also eating fishy crackers.
-
You are listening to your mother?
-
No. My mother can actually sing.
-
LOL DR Sanda.
-
And now I'm out of fishy crackers.

Good morning, all! I have to drop off a pile of accumulated items this morning, and then I have a chunk of time in Toyland. I don't know if Mr Tom Murray and I will accomplish any work on THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER or simply continue the packing. Since we will not move into a new space this week, I have to schlep back here in the next three days all the BABES IN TOYLAND ephemera I've purchased on my own and the full scores that have wended their way downtown from my library. I'm letting a lot of my own books go into storage, although I would hate to lose the 3-volume Richard Norton set so I may dig it out of the cartons.
This would be a good time to work on the LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40 project for the Library of Congress, but it looks as though there will be a month before that can begin. I may be selling apples on the corner soon. and, no, it's not a euphemism!

I didn't like the people sent home last night on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
The guy they kept was responsible for THREE really good dancers going home, and I don't like his solo dancing either. It is always the SAME SAME SAME thing.
Hok's partner is very irritating in the interviews. And I agree with DR JENNIFER that some people are only still in the competition because they are paired with a popular or outstanding dancer.....if only Ricky had been with Faina....

What a pity your carry man Mr Barnum is not there to help you this week DR Elmore.

Good morning USA.

DR DrawString has joined the board.

DR Singdaw: When you finally get around to reading this, remember what I posted above:
Noted, DR Ron Pulliam.
And I fleer not.
:)

The only thing we have to fleer is fleer itself.

What a night I had last night! Jason Graae and I got together following last night's performance of OKLAHOMA! (which I'll actually be seeing over the weekend). We talked, we walked, we drove and we went to PNC Stadium's ATRIA'S restaurant (owned by Johnny Angel of doo-wop fame). There we were supposed to be hooking up with Paul Palmer who is in his 29th year of doing Pittsburgh CLO, but, alas, Mr. P. did not show. . . Needless to say, the esteemed BK was a topic of discussion as was DR Larry Moore (Jason does a great impression of Larry); I won a five dollar wager with Jason: the release dates of ALL THAT JAZZ and CRUISING. A very good time was had by all.
When I got home, I found that the power was out, and had been out for well over two hours; it came back on at 4:00 this morning - five powerless hours - or I would have posted late last night when I got home.
DR td - Renée is on her way.
:-* You're a gem!
Now it's my turn to say "Off to work!"
Great travel vibes for feline travel!
-
I can't come up with a single fleer pun. Something is wrong.
-
Friday morning greetings! I drove to work this morning in a thunderstorm.
Today's my last day to be here at work until July 5. Actually, tomorrow through next Tuesday will be work-related days, but being away at a conference seems sort of like vacation to me.
TOD - CD(car) - the HHW birthday CD

Lovely photos, DRs DearReaderLaura, Tomovoz, and Adriana Patti. Thanks for sharing! :)
Congratulations to DP Skip on another great notice for Herringbone. I found this latest particularly helpful in understanding what the show is about and how it is structured. It sounds fascinating!

I am flying to Chicago this coming Friday, the day you arrive... :( And I won't return until late Sunday night. I have to work Monday Jul 2, but am hoping you'll still be around that evening.

DR Singdaw - we actually arrive Thursday afternoon. But on Monday, July 2, we fly out of LaGuardia at 5:55pm, so will probably leave the city by about 3. Any chance we could get together Thursday evening?
-
Friday!
-
DR Ginny - Yes, I'd be available Thursday eve the 28th, if it fits in with your plans. I believe DRs elmore3003 and JoseSPiano are doing the master HHW scheduling. But I'd be happy to come in, even if only for a brief meet and greet. I won't be able to stay up late and play, as I'll have an early flight the next morning.
:)
-
Good morning. I already walked for coffee, and I also walked to Walgreens to get some envelopes and stamps. A long day at the office today, I believe.
-
DR Singdaw - we have made no definite plans for Thursday evening. Assuming Amtrak is running on schedule, we're due into Penn Station about 3pm. We're not set on seeing a show that night or anything, so maybe a not-too-late dinner & visit would work.
DRs Elmore and Jose, does that mesh with the master plan?
-
Good morning!
Another cool morning, so the windows are open and the cool breezes are wafting into my home. I may be able to get one more morning of this before I have to close the house up again and turn on the A/C.

Seesaw was a Broadway musical, music by Cy Coleman with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. It's the question of who actually wrote the book that teeter-totters.

Is Stephen Buntrock related to child star Bobby Buntrock? It's such an unusual name...
-
Nothing on TV for me tonight, so if I don't end up going to MILLIE (still iffy at this point), I'll probably rewatch something. At this moment, I don't have a clue what that would be.

I'm envious of all the HHW clan getting together in the big apple. Sounds like so much fun!

Hmmm...it seems that everyone is arriving in NYC on Thursday and that that would be the only window to meet DR Singdaw. I think I'm going to hold off on reserving a hotel room until Monday so I can check out if I can get away with taking Thursday off myself and getting up there a day earlier.
-
Last night certainly was an adventure.
I didn't get off work until ten-thirty. Fortunately, der Brucer arrived on time (an unusual thing for him to do - you can generally set your watch for him to arrive fifteen minutes late) and agreed that having a bite out would be better than my trying to cook.
We dined at the Rehoboth Diner, where we discussed softball/baseball scorekeeping, the grandlads, and The Sound of Music. We then headed for home, I got some reading in, and he crashed on the couch while watching television news.
Sometime after three, he had to wake me up. He'd roused, discovered that the front door was open, and that Mikey and the blondes were missing.
I got dressed as quickly as I could.
With three leashes stuffed in my pocket, I headed out on foot. Der B noted some barking up the street a ways, and I headed in that direction while he got in the car.
I started calling out the dogs' names, not too loudly since it was the middle of the night. Suddenly, before I had made my way to our first neighbor's yard, there was a skittering of toenails, and up ran Mikey as fast as I could. I scooped the happy feller into my arms, and looked up.
There, a couple of houses away, were Bonnie and Buster. I think I startled her, because she gave a warning woof, but then I called to them and she realized who I was. They dashed towards me, then past me to the driveway, where der Brucer was only just starting to head up onto the street. Fortunately he stopped the car and just sat there, while I trotted over to the front door, where Buster was already waiting for me. I opened the door, the blondes rushed in, and then the three explorers all started demanding a round of doggie biscuit treats. Fletcher, who had been sleeping next to der B on the couch, decided he wanted a treat, too. Der Brucer chose not to be treated.
We agreed it was a good thing that Bonnie and Buster are clearly past their roaming stage, and like to be part of the pack.
And, with that adventure over, we all settled down to try to get over the adrenaline rush.
And that was our little nighttime adventure.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - don't do anything special on my account! We're close enough that we'll meet at some point - if not now, then soon. :)
-
DR SWW - Egad! That awful adrenaline rush when you realize what has happened - not fun. Glad your adventure had a happy ending! :)

DVD Player: More of COUSIN BETTE and maybe A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.
-
Tell me about it, DR Wadgnis! The pack settled down a lot faster than I could.
The only evidence that anything had been amis was a mess of grime on Bonnie's side. For the life of me I can't think of what she got into. But most of it has come off by this morning, and our little princess is coolly dozing in the sunshine on the couch, as if nothing unusual has happened.

*And after stepping on the scale this morning - for the first time in two weeks - and not seeing a big a difference as I would have liked - after two weeks of being "good"... Well... I think I may need a new scale. One that "likes" me. ;)

DR JoseSPiano - don't forget that some of your fat loss may have been offset by muscle gain. A much better indicator of how you're doing is how your clothes fit/feel. :)

I know, I know. No worries. -Although, I have one of those scales that also reads body fat percentage, so... However, those types of scales are known for not being very accurate when it comes to people who have naturally large frames, so... In any case...
Alas, I also think I may have pulled a muscle in my back yesterday during my run - or after it. So, today, I shall rest and take it easy. And I may have a cookie. From you know where. ;)

And a big hello and congrats to dear Esteemed and buffed BK -- I really like the book cover. Thanks for posting it!

At the moment, I'm sitting in a Starbucks at the corner of Station street and Main, in old downtown Barrington, Illinois.
It's because they have T-Mobile wireless here, and I had to check on 2 business letters that needed attention.
I can't get my laptop to work at all at the house where I'm staying. :( So, I can only do a brief check in and hello.

Los Angeles Opera, which for a number of years has been recruiting well-known filmmakers to work on its stage, has announced the latest addition to its directorial roster: Woody Allen.
The legendary comedian/filmmaker/writer/jazz clarinetist will direct Gianni Schicchi, the comic third part of Puccini's Trittico, in a new production of the complete trilogy to open L.A. Opera's 2008-09 season. This will be his first opera production.

"I have no idea what I am doing," said Allen in a statement released by the company yesterday, "but incompetence has never prevented me from plunging in with enthusiasm."
I think it's GREAT! I give the LA Opera credit for having the courage to do something completely different. I'm anxious to know the outcome. And I love the quote.

Do DH Richard and I need "His & Hers" kurtas? Is that the plural of kurta?

But for you DR Ginny, a sari would be much more feminine.

Yeah, right. A likely story.

And Ginny and Elmoore, shall we have swedish meatballs prior to attending CURTAINS on saturday night? (that is presuming I get my house seat from Rupurt Holmes).
Of course even if I don't get a seat for the show I am still able to eat swedish meatballs with you all.

And DR Jose, will Friday be a good day for Pork Belly's?

Gosh I am so hungry....and excited. I am hungry and excited both at the same time.

The dress code curtailed cute curt kurtas.

Well, excited AND scared...

Well, DR MBarnum, I think the Scandinavian place I recommended is closed on Saturdays for the summer. But didn't DR Ben have a recommendation?
-
So much to eat, so little time! :)
-
IAlas, I also think I may have pulled a muscle in my back yesterday during my run - or after it. So, today, I shall rest and take it easy. And I may have a cookie. From you know where. ;)
That's the ticket! Negate the gain, indulge in Levain!
;D

Closed for the summer???? Well..that is odd. Well, we shall have to look into the other Scandanavian place....DR Ben, can you remind us of what and where it was?

And DR Jose, will Friday be a good day for Pork Belly's?
Awwww, MBarnum.....that's just a little baby fat...no need to call it a pork belly!

DR JoseSPiano forgot that when jogging, you should be looking ahead, instead of back over your shoulder at the hunk that went by in the opposite direction!
-
Closed for the summer???? Well..that is odd. Well, we shall have to look into the other Scandanavian place....DR Ben, can you remind us of what and where it was?
Not so odd, really, because it's a cafe in a museum/cultural center. Let's hope DR Ben can further advise us!

Meeting done and now lunch in ten minutes.
I did have to laugh - on one of the theater chat boards someone (hmmm, I wonder who) comes on and starts a thread whose title is the name of a label we don't mention. The person says gee, I thought they were done but I just happened (yeah, right) to go to their website and they're still in production (whatever that means) and you can buy stuff that's listed as out of print everywhere online. Happy to report not one response to the obvious shilling.
-
Shall I have a pastrami sandwich or my tri-salad (two scoops of chicken salad, one scoop of egg salad). Hmmm.

:-* You're a gem!
Now it's my turn to say "Off to work!"
Great travel vibes for feline travel!
WOW! I am envious! I AM envious!
In my next life, if I can't be Guy Haines, I want to be Jason Graae! Yes!

LOVE listening to him sing! Glad that you had such a good time last night.

DR JoseSPiano - don't get so buffed and muscle-bound that you develop the problem that THIS actor has: he can't even wear a proper jacket!(http://bp1.blogger.com/_HtSvr0DEcpc/RnojhxZypuI/AAAAAAAAAUk/XkY37Uwd9ws/s320/glory.jpg)

Yep! By that point, I will need a large alcoholic drink and several strong drugs from being with DR MBarnum all day!
Well, think about what HE will need! ;) :o ;)

Oh, that was just me; you know, moi!

Semi-good news on the office front: we've been directed by the Institute to stay put and to keep looking for a new space. Our intrepid office manager Matthew has been on the prowl and located a potential space. Our attorney has also recommended another broker to help us search, so we ain't dead yet.
DR singdaw, I found the comments on the DC all-nude Shakespeare quite sound. To paraphrase W.S. Gilbert, when everybody's somebody, then no one's anybody.
-
That's great, DR elmore3003! So that means you DON'T have to pack up next Wednesday? And you can continue to keep working in the space, temporarily?

It won't make the landlord evicting us happy that we're squatting but what the hell! So, I schlepped 16 Tons of scores home for nada!
Oy.
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm back from Whole Paycheck Foods, where I proceeded to load many items into my cart that I simply did not need to buy. Thankfully, I did my usual "second round", and proceeded to put a bunch of stuff back on the shelves. They had some decent sales in the Seafood Department, so I should be eating rather healthily the next couple of days. -Of course, come later next week... Hmm... ;)
-
It won't make the landlord evicting us happy that we're squatting but what the hell! So, I schlepped 16 Tons of scores home for nada!
Oy.
So, does that also mean that the Institute has contacted your current landlord? Or is it possible that the landlord could still evict you? -I shudder to think what would happen if you happened to go down to the office one day next week, and found the contents of your office on the sidewalk.
-

16 Tons and what do you get.....
-
Vibes DR Elmore, it sounds promising.
-
DR Elmore, I'm not so sure I wouldn't keep at least some of those at home until you know that you aren't going to have them thrown out in the street during an eviction
-
That's not legal advice, by the way, even though I am in my new office at the moment!!!
-
DR Ginny - Amtrak's mid-day trains have always run on time in my experience. Additionally, if there appears to be a major delay, they've always been pretty good about putting you on the next train - which, during the week, is usually just a half-hour later. *And at least at Union Station, the process of getting to your gate is not as hectic as it is at Penn Station since the gate assignments are posted way in advance. -Unlike, NYC, where the gate/track assignments are posted right at boarding time, and then you have to RUN(!!!!!!). But I do suggest getting to Union Station at least 45 minutes before your departure. This way, you can be seated at the proper gate/track. And also be one of the first in line to board so that you can have a better choice of the open seats. *And, remember, if you so desire, most of the trains between DC and NYC now have "Quiet Cars" - no loud talking, no cell phones. :)
Once you're at Penn Station, just make your way up to one of the cab stands at the street level. That should be the easiest way to get to your hotel. And beware the "unofficial" cab-helpers - those hustlers seem to be back in full-force again lately.
And as for getting over to Grand Central, it's just a few blocks from Times Square down 42nd Street. A nice, leisurely 15 minute walk, tops.
-
DR Ginny - And during you wait at Union Station, you can always pick up a nice lunch at one of the many food stands on the lower level. I highly recommend the Indian place - although, since Indian looks very likely for that evening.... And the Italian pastry shop has some good treats. Of course, there's always Ben & Jerry's and/or Starbucks.
-
I've been moving and doing all sorts of things. It's starting to sound like I'm going to get busy pretty fast, so I decided to bite the bullet and buy a computer for the secretary's area. I really need to have it so I can set up my network and other miscellaneous things before I get busy. Right now I'm on the "secure" wireless that's free in the building. Thing is, it isn't secure. I signed on, no problem. When I called the owner of the building to set it up, he said "Oh, I must have left it open, my bad"
So, I'm going to get a wired high speed connection into the office and I'll set up my own secured wireless network. I'm thinking that will be the safest. I did sign up on the free wireless, though, just in case I need it for a backup
-
And Thanks for all the Back Vibes. I'm, it is feeling much better. I think I just needed to wake up a bit more, and also just move around a bit. -Although, I'm thinking a nap might be nice too this afternoon...
-
Anyone for a completely nude production of the Scottish play (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/21/AR2007062102500.html)?
Hmm.. I had forgotten that this was planned as part of "Shakespeare in Washington".... Why?!?!?!
-
I got a great deal on a computer at Best Buy. It was a floor model, but it didn't appear anyone had played with it much and they give you a full system restore before you take it out of the store so it's in the condition it would have been fresh out of the box. Oh wow! I hadn't noticed the time, I can go get my computer, and oh poop, I forgot to go meet Michelle Obama and I wanted to meet her.
-
So, does that also mean that the Institute has contacted your current landlord? Or is it possible that the landlord could still evict you? -I shudder to think what would happen if you happened to go down to the office one day next week, and found the contents of your office on the sidewalk.
If they file eviction proceedings, I think it will take about 90 days to evict us, and our goal is to move and not to be squatters.
-
DR Jose - thanks for all the Amtrak insights. The one thing I haven't figured out is: Luggage, to check or not to check?
-
Well, better go get the computer, I'm in dirty sweaty moving clothes, not exactly what I want to be wearing when I meet a potential first lady,.
-
DR JoseSPiano forgot that when jogging, you should be looking ahead, instead of back over your shoulder at the hunk that went by in the opposite direction!
Well, actually.... I do have to say that I've been good in that regard. I have not changed direction - I always run counter-clockwise (just as the signs say) - for any reason or anyone. Besides, if I'm lucky, I'll get another look on the next lap.
-
DR Cillaliz - you sound so organized and excited. I'm thrilled for you!
-
DR Jose - thanks for all the Amtrak insights. The one thing I haven't figured out is: Luggage, to check or not to check?
How many pieces? Amtrak limits you to two carry-ons - although, many people bring three, sometimes more. It's simply a matter of whether or not you want to schlep your bags on board yourself, and then lug them on to the luggage racks. Checking baggage doesn't really cost anything -except for the tips for the Red Caps. *And, if they're not too busy, sometimes the Red Caps will "let" you board early too.

I thought this was fun!

And later on that season, they will be premiering the new opera by Howard Shore (music) and David Henry Whang (libretto) based on David Cronenberg's - and DR Pogue's - "The Fly".
Anyone know if DR Pogue will be brought in as a consultant to the production?
-
DR Elmore, I'm not so sure I wouldn't keep at least some of those at home until you know that you aren't going to have them thrown out in the street during an eviction
I'm going to cart three scores downtown tomorrow and leave the rest here.
I was just talking to our office manager and I asked him if he and his partner were going to march in the parade on Sunday. He was talking about the heat and I told him he had to march for his place in the shade.

And, yes, like I mentioned earlier, I'm feeling much, much better.

DR Jose - thanks for all the Amtrak insights. The one thing I haven't figured out is: Luggage, to check or not to check?
I have never checked luggage on Amtrak so I have no idea how much time or effort it takes.

That looks like Stephen Lang, and I'll be glad to help him put it on if he'd like.

The grocery store was suspiciously empty this afternoon. Usually on Friday, it's packed. I wonder if a lot of people went out of town for this first weekend of summer.
-
I began my afternoon with last night's episode of THE STARTER WIFE. Some interesting developements with the characters, but one brunch scene that made me SO angry. Lots of thoughtless, selfish people that I wouldn't have had two seconds of patience to be around.
-
For the remainder of the afternoon, I watched the entire first disc of ACTION (episodes 1-8).
Watching this "out there" episodes made it clear why the series didn't catch on, but some of them are really funny. I guess the show was just too "inside show biz" for the general public to understand or appreciate, but I'm wondering if the show doesn't play even better now than it did when it first was produced.
-
And Ginny and Elmoore, shall we have swedish meatballs prior to attending CURTAINS on saturday night? (that is presuming I get my house seat from Rupurt Holmes).
Of course even if I don't get a seat for the show I am still able to eat swedish meatballs with you all.
Should I contact my source for a house seat for you?
As for Swedish meatballs... I like the mini-chain, Smorgas Chef (http://www.smorgaschef.com) - which is the other place that DR Ben recommended, I believe. The don't have a location in Hell's Kitchen, but there's on the East Side at 2nd and 49th, plus one down in the Village. Easy cab rides to the theatre.
However, F & B - European Güdtfood (http://www.gudtfood.com/index_content.html), also has some decent Swedish meatballs - as well as some other goodies. They're down in Chelsea on 23rd - right next to Burgers & Cupcakes (http://www.burgersandcupcakes.us/), as well as on the East Side too on 52nd Street.
Of course, if you'd like some other recommendations for places in the Theatre District, just ask. :)
*I highly recommend the very no frills, walk-up window on 45th - right down the street from Curtains called "Piece of Chicken". Besides, pieces of chicken ($1.00 a piece), they also sell pieces of fried whiting, ribs, chicken livers (with or without gravy), collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and a couple of other items. And everything this priced at $1.00 or $2.00 - with a few items priced higher depending what's available that day. It's literally part of the kitchen of Jezebel (http://www.jezebelny.com) which is a semi-upscale Southern/Cajun restaurant. It's all the same food that's served in the restaurant, but without all the ambience - and the higher prices. (Although, it looks like they've opened up the decor of Jezebel lately. It used to be all red velvet and gold, sort of a like a bordello (on purpose)). All the food is served in those styrofoam food trays with plastic spoons, forks and knives. And it's become quite popular with the "show people" in the neighborhood since it's fast and cheap and very good.
-
My favorite episodes remains the one with Richard Burgi as the gay actor wanting to come out of the closet. He's hilarious, and Jay Mohr makes a wonderful "straight" man for their scenes together.
-
There'd better be lots and lots of photo postings from this HHW East Coast Shindig and Hullabaloo ... before, during and after..... shindig... sounds like another nickname for Naomi...

DR Jose, answa ya phone!

Coming in the mail today was the DVD of THE LAST MIMZY which was just in theaters a couple of months ago. I'll have to watch it tonight.
And it's an "Infinifilm" release which means there are tons of branching featurettes off the main movie. Since I didn't see the film in the theater, I have to watch it first without those elements turned on. Afterwards, I may rewatch it with the Infinifilm branches selected.
-
Muu-Muus, Hawaiian Shirts and Leis for Everyone!
Make Auntie K's muu-muu XXX large (she likes room to move and grove!)...

I had also chosen the DVD off the shelf which I had planned to rewatch tonight - Sylvester Stallone's action film DAYLIGHT.
It has just been released on HD-DVD, but since I don't have an HD-DVD player, I can't watch the HD version of the film. My memory tells me the standard DVD looked very good (first time I remember seeing Viggo Mortensen), but if there's time tonight, I'll watch this. If not, I'll get to it tomorrow.

And beware the "unofficial" cab-helpers - those hustlers seem to be back in full-force again lately.
The first time I came to NY on my own, back in '85, I encountered one of those guys. He grabbed my bags and put them in the taxi. I thought he was the taxi driver. Then he wanted a tip for handling my bags (I could have done it myself!) and was very intimidating, so I gave him a few bucks. Not a very good way to start off working in the Big Apple!
-
Lunch done and now to rehearsal, after which I shall return.

Awwww, you just have a soft spot for Sam!
I do! And I would think that people would not have to look at him as if he were a space alien because he doesn't know what AMERICAN IDOL is.
(Of course, he didn't seem to be putting forth much of an effort at conversation about things that he DID know about.)

Alas, I must head down now and mop the kitchen floor! Then, I'll watch THE LAST MIMZY.

*And after stepping on the scale this morning - for the first time in two weeks - and not seeing a big a difference as I would have liked - after two weeks of being "good"... Well... I think I may need a new scale. One that "likes" me. ;)
Perhaps being good isn't good enough. Maybe you need to be better.

Ah yes, Smorgas Chef is the place we want...Swedish Meatballs and Lingonberries!
They also have an egg and cavier sandwich that sounds tasty, among many other exotic treats.
Lets go!

There is more than one fleer.

I gotta tell you.
I arrived at two for our rehearsal and sat there alone until two-thirty-five, at which time I left. Joan called me at three and the darling girl said she'd screwed up and thought our THREE HOUR rehearsal was from three to five. I told her to run each number three times so she can get all the blocking in her bones, and then we'll resume rehearsals on Monday.
-
Without saying too much, I can say that the package the other day was indeed for NYMF and that if I can get it together there would be a good chance of having The Brain in this year's festival. More I do not know, and I'm just not sure of the details or how it would have to happen or even if it CAN happen, but I'm workin' on it.

I meet the most interesting people while attending to the self service registers.
There was a rather ditzy woman today who tried to listen to my instructions (it was her first time using self serve) while swatting at a fly.
The fly finally got fed up, flew down into her blouse, and bit her on one of her tatas.
I've never seen anyone jump around like that.
Well, not while at a cash register.
Maybe as a contestant on The Price is Right or Let's Make a Deal.
There's a tip, for everyone out there who is auditioning to be a contestant on a game show: jump around like a fly just bit you on your tata.
Men: use your imaginations as to how to play this.

Wasn't Tata a character in Ragtime?

In the current offering from Washington Shakespeare Company, a cast of intrepid actors essays a wholly uncut "Macbeth" in the nude.

DR Laura--yesterday's TOD was dreams. Today is the media check.

I used to have some pet mice and I sang "Let Me Entertain You" to them every time I fed them. Like that Pavlov guy. Every time they heard it, they started sniffing around for food.
The mice got old and died a long time ago, but that song still makes me hungry for cheese.

I had a Cherry Coke earlier, and then went out and got a Cherry Coke to wash it down.
This is true. I'm not kidding.
-
I've tidied up my point of view
I've got a new plaid etude.
That surely makes up for the lack of response on the WOTD.
-
We have some cheese. Come and get it.
-
I'd never heard of Cherry Cola until the Kinks mentioned it in "Lola". I've still not seen nor tasted it.
-
I'm back from a delightful dinner with our DR Jose, and we had pizza along with sparkling conversation. We planned the next weekend, dished everyone on the site, and caught up on all the news on the Rialto.
I need something sweet now. I should have walked with DR Jose down to the gelato place he loves.

How lovely to feel included.
-
I am eating cheese and drinking Cherry Coke.
-
Hoo and Ray, I'm away from my workplace now until July 5!!!
DH Richard took all of us to Tasty Creations Eatery & Bakehouse (http://www.tastycreations.net) for dinner.
Now, I have several hours of packing ahead of me.

When I first saw the Scottish play (1962?), the lead was played by Frank Thring. I'm so pleased it was the clothed version.
-
I have the empty bag right here. It is taunting me.
It is fleering you, eh?

You should see the version where the audience is nekkid!

THE SQUATTISH PLAY - a new comedy about something or other
-
King Fleer - a new comedy about....oh, never mind

And one for Mosca

Needing something sweet, after all that salty dish earlier? I can understand.
-
I should start getting dinner prepared. Der Brucer is watching Kyle XY, and that sort of thing always gets him hungry.
::)
-
And one for Mosca
Or FOXY!
-
DR Cillaliz - you sound so organized and excited. I'm thrilled for you!
Thanks DR Ginny, sound may be the operable word right now. I'm really tired. I'm trying my best to think of everything, but one never can. But yes, I am excited. I realized about 6:00 that I'd been there pretty much all day and I really love being in the office. I have both computers set up and all ok'd for the wireless internet. I still have lots to do over the next few days including taking my hand truck to the old office and wheeling my mini fridge a block and a half to the new one. It might look a little humorous, but it will be the easiest way to move it.
-
WOW! I am envious! I AM envious!
In my next life, if I can't be Guy Haines, I want to be Jason Graae! Yes!
Into role-playing games, DR Francois?
Don't count on me to do an impression of Davis Gaines!
(Yes, I know, it's below the belt, but. . .we are talking Jason Graae here).
-
It's fun hearing about all the plans for New York, I only wish I could be there. Alas, it can not be.
-
Think I'll go to the new Sonic. I've tried a couple times, but the lines have been insane, maybe it's late enough that I can get in. They are having 99 cent root beer floats! Woo hoo...
-
Wasn't Tata a character in Ragtime?
But he wasn't played by JASON GRAAE!

Of course "below the belt" refers to singing, right?
Not the African belt?!
Nor the Bible belt....

You're so... candide! ;)

Good Evening!
So, DR elmore and I gave the new pizza place in his 'hood a try, Dean's. It actually just got a nice write-up in the NY Times, and I was afraid it was going to be packed, but we happened to arrive during a slow time, and we had nice table "outside" right next to a tree/bush/something tall and leafy.
Pretty good pizza. It's owned by the same family who run Patsy's Pizza, Angelo's Pizza and a few other parlors around town. It's a thin crust pizza that's not too thin, but still manages to be crispy with a nice chew. It's apparent the service is still being worked out - although, I think they just need more waitstaff - but the pizza was very good. And we happened to run into some friends of DR elmore as they were leaving the place. I guess my only real complaint was that the pizza was not "burn the roof of your mouth" hot - fresh out of the oven. The pizza wasn't cold, but I could tell it had been sitting out for a few. -And I also kept spying one of the runners who kept trying to deliver pizzas to various tables, but would end up at the wrong table, and then have to run back to the order station - pizza in hand - to ask where table #-whatever was.
But, again, good pizza. I have a feeling DR MBarnum may be dining there next week.
-
And I did make a run down to Grom for some gelato, but I opted to get a small To Go pack- which I have yet to open. Instead, I enjoyed one of their freshly made chocolate-hazelnut truffles they display at the register. Quite a nice treat, and only 50 cents! :)
-
Gets me hungry, too. . .not necessarily for food. ;)

I think I was at the party. ;D

THE SQUATTISH PLAY - a new comedy about something or other
Would that be the sister play to The Succotash Play?
-
You should see the version where the audience is nekkid!
And where would they put their ticket stubs?
-
I can never remember if those lines are from Gypsy or Jose.
I would respond to that post, but I'm afraid I might incriminate myself. Further.
-
Pirates?
Yes!
Johnny?
No! Anthony!

bk - Good news about NYMF! I guess that means your package was not really late then. -And I hope you were able to get the refund from the USPS.

Oh, certainly.

Spent a large part of the evening on the telephone with a couple of dear friends. Nice to talk to them, and definitely preferable to sitting through THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE which we didn't do.
There's a slight chance we may go tomorrow, but I'm really not in the mood for it.
-
Thank you for all the vibes. :D
The flight arrived in NY over two hours late but then custom’s must have gone fairly quickly (I get the details later) as it didn’t take too long for Craig’s friend to escort Ioana (pronounced ee-wa-na) to Jet Blue for her connecting flight, which was also two hours late. She should be arriving in Pittsburg soon. Craig said he will give us a quick call all is ok.
Ioana had a big week before leaving, her exams, packing their apartment & saying goodby to family & friends. I bet she is exhausted & will want to sleep the weekend away, which will be fine since Craig has major exams & paper due next week.
-
OK, I've done about all the packing that I can do until tomorrow morning. See y'all bright and early!
-
I did manage to watch THE LAST MIMZY, a kind of family science fiction film with young kids as the protagonists. Really much ado about special effects and everyone looking in wide-eyed wonder at what's happening. We don't really find out until 70 minutes into the film how the mimzy is supposed to be a savior.
-
DR Jane - glad to hear that the most challenging parts of Ioana's trip are behind her. Craig has exams already? Seems like he just started school!
-
THE LAST MIMZY has been given the Infinifilm treatment on this DVD so there are dozens of featurettes from half a minute to several minutes long which branch out from the movie to extend one's understanding of an effect or a special moment for an actor or the director.
Fortunately, the featurettes can be viewed separately so the film doesn't have to watched all the way through to see the extra information. I watched about half of them tonight.
-
Thanks Ginny. He has a few mini courses & mentioned something about mid terms ( I think on the regular courses) & finals soon on the mini-courses. I need to get more details later.
'night.
-
There is a director's commentary on the disc which I only just started. I'll continue listening to it tomorrow.
-
I noticed earlier that the DVR was recording something, and when I pulled up the list, there was BILLY WILDER SPEAKS, a documentary released some years ago but which I've never seen all the way through, so I started watching it, and got about 15 minutes into it. I'll finish it tomorrow.
Very interesting discussion.
-
Good news about Ioana...I'm waiting to hear about the cat ;)

It's ALWAYS quiet between 2:00 am and 6:00 am! I love those clips and I 'm happy to share!

I even found clips of Lorna and Liza together and I think Lorna controls her voice much better than her half-sister! But, boy, together they do sound like their mother Judy! One can say that talent run in the family for sure!
-
5:57 am! I must go and pick the breakfast slips, if any!
-
I was in the mood for a little Hindu mythology (and who wouldn't be?) so I began the Bollywood movie MAHA SATI SAVITRI (1973).
It is colorful and fun but I am too tired to finish it tonight so now I am off to bed.

Depends on what the sailors are wearing. Or not.

I know! A nude production of MACBETH at sea!
-
Although, I believe Kyle XY is sans navel. Although, a missing "naval" would also be interesting.
-
Well, I plan to be at the theatre 12 hours from now - I want to get a little more practice in on the Key 2 book - I'm playing Key 3 for the matinee. So...
Goodnight.

Good evening....
Sorry about being E&T... mother nature, work and puter troubles have been the source... Earlier in the week we had nasty storms and horrendous winds that kept me off line due to having dailup.
To top it off at work we are being sequestered in strange quarters due to asbestos abatement in the library. All departments except circulation have been moved. We have to work next to it... I try to hide upstairs as much as possible. I am beginning to wonder if that may be causing the headaches and sinus trouble i have had all week.
Got a lovely package from CA... Thank you Matt!
-
Media check:
CD player: The BRain from Planet X, The Creature was not Nice, and Micheal Collins
DVD player: Mona Lisa Smile
VHS: Roots... ( I seemed to have taped it off the telly years ago and still have them. )
Ironically, in today's notes, bk mentions The Sopranos. I have never seen it.
-
soothing vibes to elmore!
-
Earlier in the week they have comemmoration of the 1957 Tornado in Fargo. Actually, on Wednesday they recreated the front page of the paper from the event. They had to do some reformatting for the paper at that time was wider than it is today.

A Kurta for DH Richard
(http://www.jaipurhandicrafts.com/products/Kurta-Pajamas/Kurta-Pajamas27.jpg)
But for you DR Ginny, a sari would be much more feminine.
I tried on a sari once... It is easier said than done to wear one. I got to try on an acquaintances deep olive green sari.
-
BTW, MBarnum, I think you would enjoy THE NAMESAKE. Kal Penn is excellent.
-
I'm the only one in the jernt?
-
NO! I am.
-
And where would they put their ticket stubs?
And would you want the audience picking their seats?
-
I'm going to cart three scores downtown tomorrow and leave the rest here.
And twenty?
