my play's title -- (Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding, Kurt Cobain's suicide, the O.J. chase)

That's going to be tough to fit on the poster!

I'm working at a different post house than where the tapes were delivered but I will be going there after my session. BK, I regret to inform you that I just called and they did arrive, so you will not be able to retire on your hefty insurance settlement.

I don't think I ever had the same barber/hair stylist for more than a couple of visits since I was a youngen and went bi-weekly to Tony the Barber.  My locks have been handled by legions.

Has anyone seen the Judi Dench-Cate Blanchette NOTES ON A SCANDAL yet? It's just opened here today. Got terrific reviews, and since those two actresses are so talented, I'll bet it'd be worth seeing.

You might meet some Bible-thumpers outside:

Hollywood probes teacher sex – again

Quote
The classroom sexpidemic of women teachers raping underage boys is not going ignored by Hollywood, which has just released its latest offering on the subject, "Notes on a Scandal."

The subject matter may remind movie-watchers of 1995's "To Die For," where Nicole Kidman depicted the real-life drama of New Hampshire's Pamela Smart, the former media-services director at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, N.H. Smart now serving a life sentence for persuading her teen lover to murder her husband.

Such films may have some wondering if Hollywood has a love affair with themes about underage boys seeking sex with older women?

In 1971, the Oscar-winning "Summer of '42" featured a youth falling in love with a woman played by Jennifer O'Neill as she awaits word on her husband's fate in World War II.

In 1983, Andrew McCarthy, a member of the so-called Brat Pack, starred in "Class" as a prep-school student having a torrid affair with his roommate's mother, portrayed by Jacqueline Bisset.

The 1999 film "American Pie" celebrated a high-school student scoring with "Stifler's mom," and helped popularize the acronym "MILF," which stands for a "mother I'd like to ----."

Seems one film/decade=a Hollywood love affair!

Their latest target is NBC:

Jesus 'gay' voyeur on NBC's Conan O'Brien

Quote
In the latest episode, O'Brien introduces the skit: "Our last new character's heart is in the right place, even if he's a complete idiot. Please welcome … the homophobic country western singer."

Then a middle-aged man wearing western clothes comes out from behind a curtain and starts to play a guitar and sing:

Oh I love you Jesus
But only as a friend.
You touched my heart but I hope
That's where the touchin' ends.

You're always lookin' over me
When I need a higher power.
But you better look at somethin' else
When I'm in the shower.

Guess Fred's doing lyrics for NBC.

"Monk", OTOH, is pure-T aggravation to me.
Good Grief.  Do we agree on something Ron?

We watched three episodes of Monk and could see nothing but stupidity.  The show did not find an audience here in OZ.

Dreamgirls at #1. It figures - it does fit in with all the other pop stuff which, for the most part, I detest.

I have to say up front that I am appalled by the recent news that the military's service time limits have been eliminated.

This move is going to prove extremely harmful to morale.  It's one thing to be sent to Iraq, knowing you have to serve 12 months and then will get a break.

It's quite something else to learn you're going to be sent to Iraq and have no predictable return time...unless it's in a body bag.

It's better than the status quo where we publish service limits, then, at the last minute, extend them, and sometimes, extend them again. At least "you're going over, we don't know when you'll be back" is honest.

I sort of feel the same way about the threat of another MONK season!  They blew it last year and I'm holding a grudge.

And for everyone going through all of this madness, may this administration rot in hell.  I loved the looks on Ms Rice's face during her interrogation yesterday; may her piano never be in tune and her ear forever tin.

You know, and I know -- and I know you know, and I know you know that I know -- that the solution is a DRAFT.

National Guard units should not be the ones carrying the bulk of this "war's" load.

It's time the United States took its proverbial head out of its butt and instituted a mandatory national service -- of some kind -- for everyone of certain ages.  That includes military service, but only for limited duration.  If folks want to go for careers, that's fine.  But once you attain a certain age, you're done...and I don't mean 30.  More like 24, if you're just out of college and 21 if you're just out of high school.

That means that someone in Australia likes it, really likes it.

:D

It opens in 1,000 more theaters in the U.S. today.  It could hit #1 here, too.

I had a wonderful lunch today.

House salad, bleu cheese dressing
Blackened trout
Steamed vegetables
Herbed rice
Iced tea.

Scrumptious it was.

The military folks in Washington feel they can fill out an expanded military without using a draft.

Under the current rules, a draft creates all sorts of problems:

admitted gay men and women - exempt
flunk your drug test - exempt
unable to read/write at the 10th grade level - exempt

First, increase the size of the military to do the job.

Second, increase pay/benefits to attract/retain more members.

If that fails, then consider a draft.

I began with last night's MY NAME IS EARL which also turned into MY NAME IS RANDY, MY NAME IS JOY, MY NAME IS CRABMAN, and MY NAME IS DOTTIE. Very funny story where each member of the cast had bits of the story that the others didn't possess and told it progressively as if the sitcom was named after them (hence all those names). Offbeat and fun.

But we're plum out of fresh troups!

(Although I'm all for re-assigning most of the troups presently stationed in Europe and Japan!)

What's important about the DREAMGIRLS soundtrack being #1 is that Broadway music, no matter how much the country as a whole tries to show disdain for it, can find a mass audience when folks are subjected to it.

The CHICAGO soundtrack was #1 for a number of weeks as well when that movie was out.

Next on my DVR list was last night's SMALLVILLE. Tori Spelling, an abominable actress, guested as a Daily Planet gossip columnist. I was so glad she won't be having a recurring role in the show.
