Because they are saving the Closing Ceremonies for Prime Time!

Congrats to George and company for a good run of "Titus."

Congrats to ChasSmith for breaking the 1,000 mark.

Sadly -- no, TRAGICALLY -- they aren't broadcasting the Closing Ceremonies on the 3-D channel -- except for what looks like a 45-minute excerpt.  Not even tomorrow!

Wow!  Thanks for pointing that out, DR John G.!

But what the hey, let's make it 1001.

And that's not the only milestone just passed.  (Do milestones ever get passed like kidney stones?)

"THERE'S MEL" just got its 21st review on Amazon!  A 21st review for a 21st century.

So take note, DR FJL.   I, for one, do not care to sit in the Seat of Shame at Joe Allen.

Yes congrats to DR CHAS SMITH on 1000 entertaining posts.

Unfortunately, they're not all so entertaining.  Take this one, for example.

See what I mean?

I totally understand them showing it in prime time. But i think they should also show it live. I would be very annoyed if i could not watch it live.

There are actually times when I get really cynical and wonder whether NBC cares more about their ratings and profits than about whether people actually enjoy the closing ceremony.

Hello, everyone.

I am in what DR Chas so aptly calls "AC lockdown"--windows shut, blinds largely closed, AC on. I hate being cooped up all day, but it's just miserable out. I took a Taco Walk yesterday and it was HOT!! The weather report said 82, but it felt more like 90.

Lovely photo, JRand. You are nicely framed within the trellis and become the focal point of the shot. (The bride and groom weren't really important, were they?)

And The Song Of The Day Is:  BEYOND THE SEA

I was listening to BEYOND THE SEA just last night, compliments of Bobby Darin.

What's going on out there?  Santa Anas, or is this just some plain old August?

When I lived in Redondo I had no AC, and there was only about one week of the year, which I think was always in August, when there was humidity with the heat and I really would have enjoyed having it.

Not Santa Anas--just ordinary HEAT! It doesn't feel particularly humid to me, but I've never been comfortable in hot weather. I don't know how I lived on the East Coast for 20 years, but I had whole-house AC, and it's better than just a window unit. I don't turn on the AC very often, but when you need it you need it!

It's Ginger Rogers Day on TCM.

And if you like Ginger and you haven't seen Vivacious Lady co-starring James Stewart.....it's coming on right now....

6:15 p.m. EST.

It is one of her BEST comedy performances....and she and Stewart are great together.....give it a look if you can get away from the Oympics until 8 pm. EST.

DR Chas, I grew up in Culver City and we usually had nice breezes off the ocean. No one had AC in those days; we just used fans. But we sweated during these heat waves, too. Everyone complained of the heat. As an area builds up and gets more populated I think it feels hotter--fewer breezes reach you, more heat is retained in the asphalt, etc. City heat just seems worse than suburban heat.
