DR Danise - Phones in bathrooms aren't really that practical. People can tell you're talking to them in the bathroom due to that inevitable "bathroom echo". ;)
However, a TV in the bathroom is not unheard of... And if the hotel/bathroom happens to be equipped with a whirlpool tub.... Ahh!
Can I speak of pastries?
Valrhona Chocolate Doughnut from DOUGHNUT PLANT, NYC, is my boom (it’s Japanese-English and means indicating something which you very personaly are crazy for, not completely relating to general trend)
I saw Little Women last night. It's a pleasant show (damn it with faint praise whydoncha). Both Sutton Foster and Maureen McGovern are excellent. There is some nice music. McGovern gets a very good number in the second act where she sings her feelings about the death of daughter Beth. Sutton Foster has a big first act closing number called (IIRC) Astonishing. Unfortunately, it's not. Nothing in the show is astonishing. It's perfectly pleasant and well done. The costumes work well. There is good use of some rear projections for sets, unlike those used in Good Vibrations. The supporting cast is fine, it's just missing the spark that could turn it into a wonderful, emotional evening. It's a little long (almost 3 hours) and since it's opening on Sunday I doubt that it will be trimmed much. This is crass, but for $30 I didn't mind it. For $100 or $75 I think I would have been more upset. So, DR Debra/Vixmom, those are my thoughts. I think if you can get discount tickets (you will most likely be up in the mezzanine) your daughter will enjoy the show. It's not a great piece of musical theatre but it's a nice introduction if a child hasn't seen much theatre. The beauty and power of the book isn't always transferred to the stage but there are moments which are very nice.Quote
Thank you DR BEN for the great review, and also for the TDF info. I checked with DH and he DOES have a union card!! (After decades of working as a consultant he has finally been hired by NYC) so I think he'll be eligible for TDF. So we will wait and go on the cheap as it were! (and who knows, you may always be able to wander down to a unused orchestra seat during intermission.....) I have always loved the book and never was satisfied with any of the movie treatments I saw.
She's only been to three Broadway shows, but then at 11 I hadn't been to any! She saw CATS when she was 7 (I think, it was just before it closed) and Beauty & The Beast at 8 and then this past August Wicked (she sings every song from that constantly...Christmas 2003, DR WFO gave her the CD, its hysterically funny hearing her singing up in her room ( I don't think she realizes we can hear her) she sing a song like Loathing and sing ALL the parts changing her voice slightly for the different chararcters and singing REALLY LOUD for the chorus parts!!
When she was 5 she loved POTO and used to sing some of the duets from that using the same method, deepening her voice for the male parts!
Matt, Those photos are a hoot! Thanks. (Any more?)

It seems that yesterday's topic is not locked. I just came in to see what was new and there were three new posts to yesterday's topic and it was listed above today's topic because it had new posts. I read the posts and clicked on Reply also and got the box allowing me to add. I didn't add anything to it but it seems to be unlocked.
my live ootlegbay .
Quotemy live ootlegbay .
Another satisfied graduate of "Typing the Vixmom Way" ;D
Too bad about The Frogs. I, too, thought "Ariadne" was the best song in the score. I'll buy it because it's got material that's not on the recent studio recording but I wish it was better.
On another matter, Mr. DTM, you have a live ootlegbay recording??? Who do you know, young man? :D
For the NY denizens... Any thought on The Muse Hotel?
I love the name - location is good.
Another satisfied graduate of "Typing the Vixmom Way" ;DIt'sway Igpay Atinlay, actuallyway.

DR Jane, your inbox is full :)
On my turntable : Tuscaloosa's Calling me but I'm not Going
DRCillaliz, I love TUSCALOOSA'S CALLING ME! I saw it in 1976 or so. It played at 43rd and 9th where I LOVE YOU, YOU"'RE PERFECT is playing, and Patti Perkins was a total hoot. There are some wonderful songs in it like the title song and "New York From the Air." I have a copy of "Delicatessan" somewhere in this chaos. It was directed by Oscar's son, the late Jamie Hammerstein, a lovely man.
I've never seen it. My sister got the album years and years ago and it somehow just ended up in my record collection when I left for college in 1979 ;) I love the songs you mentioned as well as Fugue for Menage a Trois, and Singles Bar
I'm not liking the whole Drama Book Shop vibe in terms of a reading/signing. They're happy to host it, they're happy to sell books and make money, but they don't want to do anything to let people know it's happening.
Elmore, sorry to hear that about the director of Little Women (It's hard to wish any show directed by the current director of this production well since she's such a "Cora," one of the most unpleasant people I've ever met.). I've never had any direct contact with her but I did love her revival of Sweeney Todd with Bob Gunton and Beth Fowler at Circle in the Square.
Not enough bad weather to call a snow day yet. Gotta go back to work.
So how many posts do I need before I'm not a Newbie anymore?
Saturday Afternoon at Murder Ink would be great! Then we could all head downtown to Miss Penny's show (of course, Miss Penny will be performing in the afternoon so she gets an excuse).
BK - Does Applause do readings? Are they still around? Or do they only deal with their own publications? I know they moved too sometime in the past couple of years. I think...
I'm listening to BBC Radio 2 waiting for a program hosted by Desmond Carrington which will be about the wonderful, and mainly unknown by the general public, Flanders and Swann.
I will post the link to BBC 2 so you can listen to the show if you are so inclined. It's a half-hour segment and will be on the BBC Web site until next Friday at 2pm Eastern Standard Time. It's great to hear the recordings again. I have two records which have not yet been transferred to CD. They are high on the list.

..Oh, and that reminds me... I keep meaning to track down that Flanders and Swann songbook that apparently was released in the US sometime in the past year or two.
...I think...
;)
Is this the one?

DR JOSE hurray! I think we have decided on the Sunday matinee - but we will let you know as it gets closer.

And here is my 1400th posting in my second go-round as a Hainsie-Kimlet!Congrats!!
Dear Friend BK, when I left the store, I was never notified of a single event although invitations used to be sent out via guests lists the author/publisher provided. Whenever I'd stop back in the shop, I was told by the owners that I never came around enough, and I wanted to say "you could invite me to an event, ya know."
The pic that DR JMK posted reminded of Evangeline Lily (sp?) who plays Kate (the pretty fugitive girl) on LOST. She was on the Ellen Degeneres show and she was talking about how many accidents she'd been in (driving). She said she was a terrible driver. But she was laughing about it. She said she'd never hit another car (which i suppose is good). But she hit a person, and i suppose other things on the road like poles. Well Ellen had her get in a mini car and back up. And she hit everything in sight!
She said that she only passed her driving test cause her instructor thought she was cute!
Now, if you were her, wouldn't you take more lessons or something. I hope I would.
About to go in my DVD player is a gift that appropriately arrived today DRelmore, THE FANTASTICKS, the original cast album. :D :D :D
Jed will you be checking on Ann and let us know how she is?
Ginny a mute is the only role I could play in a musical. :( ;D
Jane, did I introduce Soon It's Gonna Rain to you?
Jed, thank you. That would be something if she is up to posting, yet I fear sitting may not be the most comfortable position for awhile.
Okay Ron let me think, play would not work any better-how about this.... Every time I had my own personal concert from, at the time undiscovered, Bruce Kimmel I always requested SOON IT'S GONNA RAIN.
DR Ron Pulliam... Umm... Just what are you taking for your cold/allergy/sore throat/etc.? And how much?
;)
As strange as it seems, my "WHAT?" post had nothing to do with the exchange between you and BK re: Soon It's Gonna Rain.
Rather, it was part of an ongoing "railing at the universe" that I've indulged in on these here pages.
It was a "WHAT" one might utter if one caught someone staring at them.
Nothing that makes me all bubbly and incandescent and floaty I can tell you.
A couple of sinus tabs...some nose spray.
Am trying to cut back....
............WHY?!!!!
;D
I just have to heat the first few notes
DVD Player: Believe it or not, I now own a DVD. "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," which is still as much fun as the first time I saw it.
You should have told them to put you on their mailing list. :D
And I got a really nice book from the Gay Men's Chorus, which features a lovely profile of elmore.
OK... I'm gonna go ahead and get ready to head in for tonight's show. I also want to fill my car's gas tank up before tomorrow's inevitable (at this point) snow. -The forecasts all seem to agree we're gonna get at least 4 inches of snow. As for the "at most" number, that's been anywhere between 6 and 8 inches. Unfortunately, down in Richmond, it's looking like it might turn into a sleet and ice storm after the initial snow storm. And since there are still parts of the city recovering from Hurricane Isabel a few months ago... We shall see.
OK...
Laters...
You need to know all that to get through your day.
How is Callie?
I know my evening shall surely be richer because of it.My words have not fallen upon stoney ground. I am so pleased for you DR Jed. Perhaps you can use the information in your next job application. It can't hurt!
Elmore in profile! Is that from the left or right?
Glad your Dusty parcel arrived BK.
The Pool People are here and installing pump and motor, after which we shall set the timer and make sure it's working properly. Then tonight, it's me and the crickets, baby.
With all this talk of Buddy Holly and the Crickets.....one of the songs I sing to the cats is Callie Sue, instead of Peggy Sue. The rest of the lyrics change everytime depending on what she is doing. There is a sequel by Holly too. "Peggy Sue Got Married". Callie may appreciate the change of tune. Best of vibes to Callie Sue from non cats (and they have never met any), Fosca and Magnus.
News from OZDerek: A bit of a set back and trauma. He found an elderly naked lady in his bathroom last night. I didn't know he had one to lose.
He has been reading "The Lost Boys" and is close to locating them it seems.
A further report shall be issued later tonight.

They're telling us on Long Island 14 - 24 inches with drifts to 6 feet!! You may be waiting awhile for those egg bagels DR Jane!!!
Are there any cricket crackers in amongst the other animals.
What is NEXT???
Kitty Kitty Bang Bang?
Good grief, Charlie Brown!
And I got a really nice book from the Gay Men's Chorus, which features a lovely profile of elmore. They'd written me for permission to use bits from our Unseemly Interview, which I happily gave them.
With four, what happens if it's a tie?
Are there any cricket crackers in amongst the other animals.
I haven't had any time to listen to The Woman in White.Be thankful!
I discovered Bogie really likes these too. I only let him have a little but I’m so happy is appetite is returning. BTW his ultrasound results made us very happy. :D
Good news Jane. (The ultrasound news that is!)
Thank you Cillaliz. I'm hoping I can say the same thing for Callie soon. Is she on prednisone or anything else?
No newbie you. You are now officially a Junior Member. On to your next plateau and we love having you here. Cillaliz wrote me a very lovely e-mail about Writer's Block, which I'm happy she enjoyed.
Tomovoz thank you.
I just received, via email, a darling photo of my cousin’s daughter with Larry King. She is currently doing an internship with his show and seems to be very happy.
DR Cillaliz, I haven't seen Being Julia, but I hear it's good -- and was shot in Budapest, I believe, so if all else fails, the scenery will be nice.
Off to the movies and dinner with DD, who will be returning to San Francisco on Sunday. She got her long hair cut short yesterday and looks lovely (IMHO).

I think I already asked this, but has anyone seen Being Julia?
For one moment...JUST a moment, mind you...I thought I had missed an "announcement" about a blessed event.
Then I remembered about Bogie.....
:D
I have and it's definitely worth a look. Miss Bening is delicious in it, and if you have any interest in the theatre--and especially backstage shenanigans--there is much in it to enjoy.
She's on prednisone and lactulose for problems related to her abnormally small pelvic opening - won't go into more details about that!
And here is the ever-fashionable Chooster in an original Sandra creation...
I'm glad Bogie is doing better.
Today in my History class, I was trying to figure out what is so great about my teacher that would make her groupies take all her classes. I couldn't find any particular reason. She doesn't wear crazy socks (like my Poetry teacher), she doesn't say "hee-uh." So what is it?
"Irregular Arugula" strikes my fancy, !
I’m so happy is appetite is returning. BTW his ultrasound results made us very happy. :D
I will boycott, I suspect it has a gay agenda!!! ;D
Jose -- As much as I hope you win the lottery (I do so want to come to New York!) are you aware that there are currently 246 members of this here site to whom the term DR could apply?
We discovered, the hard way, prednisone gets converted into prednisolone so it is safer to give a cat prednisolone.
Jed -- Which side of the mountains are you currently sitting?
My dear cyber-father and I would probably agree that it's as much fun now as ever... we just might not agree with you on exactly how fun that is. :D
Yeah I should no longer be a newbie!
Congratulations on your new status DR Jr memeber Cillaliz!!!
I'm glad Bogie is doing better.

Thanks DR Vixmom...are there any new flavors of Girl Scout Cookies this year?
Ellensburg
Is it Girl Scout Cookie time? We have about 4 ladies and gentlemen in the office that sell them for their kids. I always try to buy at least one box from each because I don't like anyone to be left out.
Well, you are no fun.
I use to do that with the thin mints. I think in some area Soamas are or were called Caramel deLight. I thought there was a new cookie this year.
Has anybody heard from DR Ann?
The phone rang early today. Illness struck the daycare center the grandlads attend, so der B and I had to dash off and ladsit once again.
As a result, our listening and viewing today consisted of:
DVD: Looney Toons.
Car CD player: .
He waited patiently. We next played Tarzan. (A trip to the grocery store was involved; hence the additional driving time.)
.
All you East Coasters, stay warm - forecast 10-14 inches of snow tomorrow and blizzard warning and very cold temps... Yikes!
Jed is someone staying with Ann?
Jed is someone staying with Ann?
I thought she said her Mom had come to stay with her, am I mis-remembering?
Yes, her father is over there with her.
Oh so very close! :D
I amy
She has another father?
Vixmom good luck with the washing machine. Have you tried using a hair dryer on the pipes?
Watching The Matchmaker. If I were Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart I'd sue. This thing is just like Hello, Dolly!
Watching The Matchmaker. If I were Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart I'd sue. This thing is just like Hello, Dolly!
cillaliz: Tongue was firmly in cheek. That is my sense of humor.
Isn't Hello Dolly based on Thortnon Wilder's The Matchmaker?
Did someone say earlier that they were not a cat person???
This is my Baby:
Actually isn't The Matchmaker based on another play called "The Merchant of Yonkers"?
Well, Dear Reader Cillaliz, I did think you were being tongue-in-cheek too, cheeky you! ;)
-- You have to be "careful" with BK!
He has a wry sense of humour and his knowledge of all things "musical" and movies and THE theater and illustration art and.... is out of this world! (Oh, a Cole Porter reference!)...
Stick around and you'll see what we mean! :D
People who don't like cats have been mice in a previous life!
On behalf of Angel, thank you François and Cillaliz.
I will save Nicky's picture for a different day.
The problem is, anytime I hear "an important film, really worth seeing" I want to run for the hills.
Do try and not take these things so seriously, dear reader Panni. I would have made the same post no matter who had seen it and said what you said. "Really important films" make me want to run for the hills.
I like a nice comedy.
The minute I hear I MUST see it because it's IMPORTANT I run for the hills. But then, I like the hills. The hills are alive with the sound of music.
