Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a dinner party, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they were at a dinner party, too, and were happy they were served chicken rather than beef.

Good morning, all! Last night I dreamed about Goodspeed. chorus girls leaving the business from frustration or romantic problems and the dread Victria Clark. Lordy!
Today, I am staying close to home, although I will cart this score to Kinko;s and have the 10 copies run off. DR George, I scrwed up my post last night with my poor typing. It's a score of 220 pages. Ten copies printed on both sides (110 pages when finished) would cost me $220 at Staples, which is $0.10/page and seems a bit much to me. I think Kinko's estimate of $95 is way off as well and the actual price form them is smewhere in the middle. I'll report back.
When I finish the trip to Kinko's, I will throw the laundry into the washers and work on the EILEEN notes. Time's getting short for my deadline.
-
It's already 81 in NYC.

Good morning, all.
Cool vibes for those sweltering in the heat. Who knows what the day will be like here?
Victoria Clark-free vibes for Elmore.

TOD:
I love to throw parties, but I haven't in the past few years because of finances and school work. But this Easter I held my usual get-together, which is generally for about eight friends who are without a place to go. I usually try to cook something I've never made before, such as prime rib. This year, the invite list grew to more than 15 and it didn't matter. Two friends decided to take over the main course, which freed me to do a deep cleaning. Everyone had their full, and about eight of us sat around outside at the ending of the evening with drinks and watched the fireflies dance about. I think BK had it right. It's more about having a good balance of people than anything else.

Coffee! Good morning, all.

You should have gotten the guy from Kinkos to write down 220 pages/both sides and list your quote on a piece of paper. There is no use in him giving you a quote if it's gonna change today. :)

Even though I've got the AC and three fans blowing, there's a layer of cool air with a burning subtext assualting me at all times.

Time to go out into theheat and visit Kinko!

Cillaliz: I had deep-fried butter at a concert in Louisville a couple of years back. It was a dessert. Think of it as ravioli with cinnamon-sugar lightly dusted on top. The butter complemented the dough and was quite nice -- if you like butter.
I've ordered butter soup, so you can imagine my thoughts on the subject. :)
-
I love butter, but I thought that was a joke above!

Thursday morning greetings! Day 2 of HVAC installation here - they warned us yesterday that we may not have heat by the end of the day, but we'll have air conditioning. Glad it's not the other way around!
-
Hello to all of you out there.
-
Hi all. I just had the AC guys come and look at my unit. It's cracked and that why the pan keeps filling up. They have to order a part but they said it is an easy fix. I'll take their word for that. What do I know about central heat/air units?
I'm thrilled that the darn thing is going to be fixed and i won't have to climb up in the attic every 2 weeks to drain the pan.
Hope your install goes smooth DR Ginny. I confess that now that I'm used to having it, I can't imagine going without the ac/heat. Can't believe I lived in this house for over 30 years without either.
-
Gotta scoot and get to work but I am going make myself something to eat before I go.
-
Hope your AC really is that easy to fix, DR Danise. Have a great day!
-
We lived in Fort Lauderdale throughout the 1960s ... without air conditioning. To this day, I have no idea how that was possible. It's unimaginable to me now. But people told us we'd adapt (like, after a year or so!), and adapt we did. And that was way more common then than you'd think. I remember "heat waves" in which I'd be particularly uncomfortable, but I think that for the most part it was something we didn't think much about.
My parents finally put a window unit into their bedroom because my mom had a night job at the hospital that she loved, so in order to get decent sleep during the day there was no choice but to have some a/c. And boy, did that room feel like heaven.
-
I'm a little wistful today, because lots of librarians are making their way to southern California for the American Library Association Annual Conference in Anaheim. Richard and I are already looking forward to next year's conference in Chicago, though.
-
Librarians On The Loose - sounds like a Radley Metzger film!
-
I always look for Jeanne's uncle's name when I watch the episodes of The Gale Storm Show that DR MBARNUM sent me.....he made Gale looked great and could really shoot a terrific musical number as well!
With Zasu Pitts....though.....well what you saw was what you got.

A good dinner party is an ideal way to spend time with ideal people. And it doesn't have to be something ridiculously formal. There have definitely been times that friends and I have experienced this, if not actually calling it a "dinner party", and those times are unforgettable. They're also all too infrequent. (Which needn't and shouldn't be the case. Note to self.) And it needn't or shouldn't be just people you already hang out with. Bringing a couple of new people into the mix might be a happy accident, or an art, but when it happens right, that's what makes this kind of thing so perfect.
P.S. -- I highly recommend the East Coast as a perfect locale for MR BK reviving his Beef Stroganoff skills.

Miss Zasu Pitts did NOT get to meet Miss Frances Farmer, despite Mrs. Lillian Farmer's best attempt.
-
Or so we have been led to believe.
-
I am back from Kinko's, and the $95 extimate was about a third of what they told me today: $292. Now, that's approximately 2250 copies at $0.13/page, which is outrageous and I will call kinko main offices and complain. If it had been $0.15 for each double page, as I was led to believe last night when I questioned the $95.00, that would have come to around $169.00 which seems fairer, given the number of copies. The toner is aeound $60.00, which they get at a lower rate, I'm sur, and $20.00 for the three reams of paperfor the entire job. Something is wrong with this greedy picture.
Anyway, I may simply go with Staples and finish the damned thing.
It's too damned hot to be so pissed off, but the check from the Man from Philadelphia hasn'ty arrived and I don't know how the hell he expcts me to pay fpr any work without the fuckin money.

So as long as I'm feeling crabby today, who's in charge of this "Upload Folder" and why hasn't it been emptied?
Fed Ex was no help. They tell me copy rates are set by each store on market demands.
-
No one is in charge of the upload folder. Bruce doesn't have tech support. He has to ask one of the old designers or Web friends to empty the uploader.

He mailed it yesterday? Yesterday?

I wanted to tweet on Twitter about Twitter being down but Twitter is down...
-
I've got the house so cold (because I'm afraid to let the a/c cycle on and off too many times, lest it stop doing so entirely) that it felt really good just now walking down to the road to pick up the mail. And it's only 88 here anyway, according to the World Wide Web.
The mail made me feel even better, though, because now I have "When a Stranger Calls" on DVD. Tonight, man.
-
Hello, Goodbye.

Only 86 degrees here.

DR TCB my rehearsals are 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. right now since we are working on individual scenes. Once we starting running acts....the rehearsals will be longer.
-
Today will see laundry get done as I'm down to 2 days left of my time off before I start camp on Monday for 5 weeks. I should probably sit down at ye ol' keyboard and look at "Legally Blonde" as we audition on Saturday. Incidentaly, at camp on Monday, we are starting "Disney's Aida - The School Edition" - which should be fun. I don't need to spend much time on that.
-
I'm a little wistful today, because lots of librarians are making their way to southern California for the American Library Association Annual Conference in Anaheim. Richard and I are already looking forward to next year's conference in Chicago, though.
I would have gone to that one if Keith was still working.
-
So how does the school edition end? I thought that being entombed alive was pretty awful. Not exactly a Disney ending.
-
When we moved east from So. California it was 10 1/2 years before we had air conditioning. I thought living in the hot Southern California Valley without air was difficult, especially the summer I was pregnant. The first summer on the East Coast I was pregnant and found out how horrible the miserable humid heat really was.
-
So how does the school edition end? I thought that being entombed alive was pretty awful. Not exactly a Disney ending.
I agree. I hear they're still entombed, but in a happy way.

Nick shared an article from the UK "The Independent" on Dave Norris (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/his-last-picture-show-what-does-the-rise-of-digital-film-mean-for-those-behind-the-reels-7870109.html) this morning on FaceBook. Our new AC is installed and doing a great job. The new unit is much bigger than the old one, but much quieter. That's good, because it sits right outside our bedroom window. Scott and Rob have left for now to go take care of others' AC, ice machine, and commercial freezer problems. They'll be back next week to finish up the heating part of the job and clean up the mess they've made in the basement.

Yeah, but I was wishing somebody else would release it in this country. Sepia is a British label, and their versions of "Hazel Flagg" and "Make a Wish" were not great in terms of sound. There's something flat about both that is different from how vibrant they sound on vinyl. Perhaps if BK remastered them ... (Columbia Masterworks, or whatever the label is, has redone "Make a Wish" and the sound is supposed to be great, but I haven't bought it yet.)
-
Didn't know that. Thanks for the information about Sepia.

In the Wow! They Actually Released That Department, Amazon has this (http://www.amazon.com/The-Collage/dp/B004ITYRCG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340314084&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Collage). This album has haunted me since my sister got it one day after hearing the group on The Mike Douglas Show. It's also the album that prompted BK's famous comment of "I would never write a song with a missing "g" at the end," when I noticed "Driftin'" on the album was written by B. Kimmel (Bobby, it turns out). I highly recommend this to anyone who likes/liked The Mamas & The Papas or Free Design.
BK, you should get it just for the liner notes--you will love the details about late sixties L.A.'s recording scene. Several synchronicities for you, too, including Dinah Shore and Stu Phillips.
Interestingly, I was so fascinated by this album I managed to track down Perry Botkin, Jr, who contributes absolutely insanely Baroque orchestrations. He had absolutely no memory of the dates--it was just another job for him. The liner notes, written by one of the surviving members, talk about the album being partially written at Botkin's Laurel Canyon A-frame. Funny.

I am going to return these Netflix items that have sat here for nearly two months and cancel my membership. I'm clearly not watching many DVDs these day, and I may sign up again after I get back from Dublin.
I hope I can find them.
You might prefer to suspend vs cancel.

I'll ask for some class finding vibes for Craig. He has four co-requisite classes he needs to take. Of course he prefers to get as many out of the way before beginning the program at Johns Hopkins in September. The problem is he can't find all the classes he needs and three of them have pre-requisites.
He got one of the pre-requisites waived leaving only three left. The class that had the pre waived is not offered on line which means he will have to go to Maryland next month to take it. Which means we will have to cut our L.A. trip short to return in time to watch Yogi & Kitty for a week and a half.
He is still working on the other three classes. Finding on line classes would be the best option. There is one possibility for a class beginning on Monday, with in state fees too.

I just spent a satisfying hour and a half watching WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, which has to be one of the more unnerving movies ever made. My nerves were thoroughly unned.
What a great rediscovery. For me it's a companion rediscovery to Walter Hill's THE DRIVER, with which I recently reacquainted myself, as they connect in certain great, and gritty, downtown L.A. locations. Did I say gritty? The whole film is gritty. The first 20 minutes, and the end, are classic. But I was happily along for the ride throughout. Even got a couple of surprises, because (cue the cliche department): they don't make 'em like this anymore! The modern day ripoffs are predictable in ways that sometimes the originals aren't. I love 1970s thrillers, and what an incredible example to bring a decade of them to an end.

I am sitting in my chair like so much fish waiting for someone to post something so that I can repsond with one of my usual moronic responses.
Repsond?
Well, it got you to repsond.
I couldn;t think of anything else to say, so I figured I had to say something, and Matthew already said "Something." :)

Good evening! I had one of those days where I was researching and working on the same thing all day and never really did get it done. I feel like I haven't gotten much done this week.
-
I came home and mowed the yard. It's finally cool here (76 at the moment) and dry (it rained yesterday) so it was the first chance I had in almost 2 weeks. It was really long. Glad to have at least the front and side done. I'll do the back and other side this weekend.
-
Tomorrow will be a long day. Driving about 3 1/2 hours to visit a client in prison. I'll be really close to where both my parents grew up and where my grandparents are buried that I'm going to drive over to both towns and pay a visit and just hang around. I may try to find one of mom's relatives and visit a woman who was a friend of my grandma, but not sure about that. I plan to drive back home tomorrow too, so I won't have that much time to spend there
-
Back from rehearsal....forgot to log out!
BUT now I shall watch some teevee.
-
I ordered COLLAGE DR JMK......
-
DR Cilla have a good day tomorrow.
-
Thank you DR TCB. He has spent many hours over the last week researching classes.
-
Page five?
-
Finished the final episode of Those Who Kill - terrific, but they must have already known they weren't coming back, and that's all I'll say about that. Now to watch something else.

Anyone who has a woot account -- DR Sandra entered a t-shirt design contest. I surely would appreciate it if you could vote for her entry if you are so inclined.
http://shirt.woot.com/derby/entry/63851/lost-boys-indeed
The topic is "Lost in a Good Book"
#256? I will try and vote. I can't really read the map. Please explain the "lost boys indeed".
its the lost boys from Peter Pan looking at a map of never never land with an arrow in the middle that says you are here
-
oh Laura already explained that ==== never mind

I had to look them up on Youtube to hear them....I kinda like 'em!
-
Busy day today, and busy weekend ahead! Whew!
DRs DougR and ChasSmith, I haven't forgotten about LURE OF THE SWAMP, and will be getting your dvdrs into the mail soon.
-
I put COLLAGE into my Amazon.com wish list....and now I am listening to other groups Amazon is recommending...including this group called PARADE....
sigh....now I have to put them in my wish list, also. The song Sunshine Girl is bound to be a favorite...and I could swear I have heard it before.
-
and I have never known who sang this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XZt7hocUoQ
and now I do.
-
You know, my music collection would be so much less if it weren't for HHW!
-
Evidently these groups are from what is/was referred to as Sunshine Pop. That is my new favorite music genre...I just didn't know what to call it!

Page six!

Back from a nice German dinner with friends. Mickey turned 80 while we were in Italy, so those of us who couldn't celebrate it then got together and took her out to dinner.
Now, it's time to watch the rest of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

Obviously, you'll need to make sure the credits are transferable if the classes are not associated with his school of choice.

I'm a little wistful today, because lots of librarians are making their way to southern California for the American Library Association Annual Conference in Anaheim. Richard and I are already looking forward to next year's conference in Chicago, though.
Several of our union representatives are going. I'm not...obviously.

Stuck on Page 2. Where is everybody -- outside, enjoying a brisk walk in the sun?
Today was the day of the month where I have to compile all the invoices that are to be paid and check them against a report of all the invoices that have been paid in our computer system to make sure that everything matches. I didn't have time to do much of anything else.
I'm home now and am watching the last two episodes of "Fringe."
-
So how does the school edition end? I thought that being entombed alive was pretty awful. Not exactly a Disney ending.
I agree. I hear they're still entombed, but in a happy way.
I hear they interpolate "But Alive" from APPLAUSE
It's still grisly, but it's peppy.
That's funny. :D
-
Finished with my viewing and shall now take a nice hot shower then relax.
-
Just back from PROMETHEUS in IMAX 3D. Friend is a manager at the local plex where they just converted one screen to IMAX, so I saw it for free in a dress rehearsal for employees, family, and friends. I guess no one has many family or friends because there were only eight people there.
Very enjoyable. At this point I'm not even trying to figure out how good the film is or isn't. The 3D was wonderful, and all eight of us had a rollicking good time.

I didn't watch the last episode of "Fringe," because I wanted to watch tonight's "Kathy." Her special guest is the one and only (and close personal friend of DR Danise) Anderson Cooper! He's very funny with her and obviously likes her.

I find THIS (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/167314-Classic-Albums-of-Working-Desert-Song-and-Call-Me-Madam-Get-Digital-Era-Release) rather interesting. Well, mostly the bit about the Working cast album.
I saw that. I've got the "Working" and "Madam," but I'd like to get "The Desert Song." I wish they would release the studio album of "Rose-Marie" with Julie Andrews and Giorgio Tozzi.
You mean this one?
Julie Andrews Rose-Marie Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Rose-Marie-Selections-Julie-Andrews/dp/tracks/B002S4DN7S/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1)
I bought the Broadway and London cast recordings of Flower Drum Song on Hallmark Records. I got them from Amazon.com, but they're imports from London. They BOTH were the mono versions and the listings didn't specify that. :P They were cheap, so it wasn't too bad.
-
I was able to copy the London cast recording in stereo from the library.
-
The B'way stereo version should be readily available on CD and I don't think it's that hard to find the UK one in stereo either - I may even have an extra copy here somewhere.
-
Tomorrow night, some friends and I are going to see some other friends in The Lakewood Playhouse (http://www.lakewoodplayhouse.org/)'s production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. There's a pretty good review of it HERE (http://www.tacomaweekly.com/citylife/view/a-funny-thing-indeed-at-lakewood-playhouse/). I'll need to get cash to pay back the person who bought the tickets.

In 1992, 20 years ago last month actually, I played Hero in a local production and it turns out that the guy who played Pseudolus 20 years ago is playing Erronious in Lakewood's production! I don't think that I've seen him since then. I wonder if he remembers me.
