I think I, Pod, the book, should be the autobiography of one of the stars of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
The Village is only 108 minutes long? I thought it was longer than that when I saw it last summer. I liked it very much though I was able to guess what the "surprise twist" was even before the movie started. Bryce Dallas Howard was wonderful and I'm looking forward to her doing Mary Queen of Scots (maybe reteamed with Sigourney as Elizabeth.)
For the Kristen Chenoweth fans, here's an article from this morning's Cincinnati Enquirer:

Please keep your fingers crossed that she doesn't cancel with the Pops again this weekend, because my DH and I have wonderful seats for Sunday evening to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary (actually on Monday).
I think the problem with M. Night is that "The Sixth Sense" was so good and had such a great twist in it that he thinks ALL his movies have to be that way
And I do wish he would stop SHOWING us the monster
IMHO both The Village and the "alien" one with Mel Gibson (the name escapes me now, senior moment attack) would have been better if the monsters were only hinted at - never actually seen
TOD, there isn't much that appeals to me for current funny people. I don't "get" Jim Carrey (he was actually much funnier when he was a nobody on In Living Color), Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller and I REALLY DON'T GET David Spade. He brings out the worst in me. I want to reach into the television and slap his smug, snotty little face (rant over).
ABC's "Lost" was fascinating, I thought. I sometimes think I'm dreaming it.
Because of something Shannon said to her brother, Boone, in last week's episode, I was stunned to learn that he is, in fact, straight...and that he has been in love with her (not a blood relative, but a half-sister by marriage). Last week she made a pissy comment to him about whether someone was his "new boyfriend." I'm guessing that was a red herring, of sorts.
.
I'm seeing Little Women next week
True. The alien movie, Signs, had me on the edge of my seat throughout most of the film (it fed into my actual life long fear of alien invasion--good thing I wasn't living in 1938!) But that last ten minutes was something from another movie and a bad one at that. If the only glimpse we ever had of the alien was from the news video clip, the sense of dread that the movie built up would have played much better.
And here I thought it was just me.. I HATE those Capital One comericals he does... I have sworn never to get one of their cards EVER EVER EVER because they hired him
NO!;D
OH! Rita Rudner, I forgot her, yes I like her very much...wher did she go? I haven't seen her for ages.
CATCHPHRASE OF THE DAY DEPARTMENT, TO BE DROPPED INTO CONVERSATION WHENEVER POSSIBLE:
Inspired by Elizabeth Rohm's parting comment last night as she left Law & Order:
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Is this because I'm a lesbian?[/move]
Betsy and I have already dropped it into our conversation at every opportunity.
I forgot Billy Crystal. I do like him.
Dan-the-Man, sorry to hear about your breakup with your Ex-Pretend Girlfriend, Amy Sedaris ;) When did it happen? Was it difficult? Was she devasted? You're not referring to her with nasty names so I guess the breakup was pleasant. Since she's in New York and you're outside of Philly, I guess it was the distance that broke you up, huh?
She left one of her prosthetic legs behind. I haven't sent it back in the hope that she might call and ask for it, but it's been months so I guess she's moved on to other things.
An interesting thing about I, Pod--it's not an anagram of anything.
I liked, but wasn't blown away by, "The Sixth Sense." Once the gimmick is known, there's little reward in seeing it again for me.
"Unbreakable," however, improves on each viewing. I wasn't much into it the first time I watched it, but I've seen it two more times and it's wonderful.
The way the director established the terror the family falls prey to, and the wonderful sense of claustrophobia that pervades even some of the outdoors scenes, marks him as an extraordinary talent.
I have zero problems seeing the monster because it was evil in intent and it was totally essential for its presence so that Mel's character could put all the pieces together that saved his sanity. "Swing away, Merle" was one of them. His little girl's obsession with pure water was another. And the son's asthma saved his life from the poisonous gas.
What I couldn't grasp is how a priest could have a family -- it was well-established that one of his former parishioners wanted to do a confessional with him. What church, other than Catholic (in which priests are celibate), has priests who wear the clerical collar and hear confessions? I'd be delighted to learn there is such a faith...but it has eluded me, thus far.
. I haven't seen it yet so NO SPOILERS.
And speaking of Lily Tomlin, she's the guest star on WILL & GRACE tonight playing the head of the firm that employs Will.
I believe the Episcopalians refer to their ministers as priests and address them as Father, and as far as I know, all Protestant religions allow their ministers to marry & procreate.
Also, while I am not aware of confession as requirement in any of the Protestant religions, there is always the option to make a private confession to your minister, besides in this particular case, (unless I misremember) the person wanting to make the confession was confessing his transgressions against Mel Gibson's character :)
I got the impression in that scene between the girl and Gibson that he was telling her he was no longer a priest and, thus, not able to hear confessions.SPOILER ALERT
Is she still on The West Wing?
How cute are these?

Is this because I'm a lesbian?
DR Jennifer: I know the feeling regarding Boone and Shannon, but at least we had the revelation that they had different parents BEFORE we saw them in bed together.
Until then, I thought Boone was gay.
Rowan Atkinson (mostly Black Adder)...Some comic radio shows: Sorry, I Haven't A Clue
Oh, god, yes, Stan Freberg. His history of America album to me is still the seminal comedy of all time. "What was that?" "French Horns." No, no, before that." "Hey, Harv, who you taking to the witch-burning tonight?" "You kids get a pretty good sound out of those mocassins." "Yeah, considering they were tap-dancing on dirt too!"
hmm... I'm just sitting here like so much fish...
What's up with that?
DR Jay started it!
Am I supposed to suddenly become "enlighted"?

Bob Newhart
DRGinny, I hope you and Richard have a wonderful time! After learning today that Ms Chenowith is performing at the 2nd Inauguration of George W Bush, I have nothing to wish her but a new brain and far away from me!
I just shake my head in amazement at Prince Harry. I know his mother died in a horrible manner and it's difficult to adjust but OMG, does this boy not have a brain?
JMK I wish I had seen the Ellen DeGeneres episode-very funny.
I still don't understand why her last sitcom was cancelled-very funny lady.
I am an M. Night Shyamalan (sp?) fan, but I had different reactions to some of his films from the rest of you.
"Signs" resonated with me from start to finish.
But, but elmore, I was counting on you being my date at the ball.....
Is this because she's a lesbian? :)
I won't dance, don't ask me!
Is this because I'm a lesbian?
I felt so cheated with SIGNS that I didn't even watch or rent THE VILLAGE.
LOL.
Ellen DeGeneres with Cloris Leachman (another very funny lady) as her mother. It was hardly given a chance to succeed.

Dave Barry (HUGE fan of Dave Barry) I think it's his word selection that makes him so funny...he has a way of telling the most simple story that has me in tears.
Hi everyone - I neglected to fill in the DR's that sent positive vibes this way about the impending Director of Music job that I was interviewing for. I was hired!!!! Actually, it's a little complicated, but for the meantime, I'm the interim Director until they work out the kinks with the other person currently in the position. It's a long story... As soon as all that is worked out, I'm official with a title and salary. I'm excited as this is a great parish.
Doesn't that mac-mini look totally awesome??? I'm all over that!
I guessed THE SIXTH SENSE within 15 minutes of the movie's start, but his next one UNBREAKABLE was my favorite of his films, and it made the least money of any of them. I loved that film.
I felt so cheated with SIGNS that I didn't even watch or rent THE VILLAGE. I may watch it when it tops up on a premium movie channel like HBO, but I won't pay out another dime for his films.
I watched a DVD touting the background on the making of THE INCREDIBLES today. I'm sure this stuff will be included on the commercial DVD release of the film in March, but the movie certainly looks amazing. Haven't seen the actual film.
Oh, your talking about her second sitcom. That one was just not funny at all. The writing was terrible.

Bonnie Hunt is a woman we find very funny but her last sitcom just didn’t work, yet there were a number of great scenes.

Somehow I've never heard The Small Circle of Friends sides, and so far they're just great. I know I'll enjoy the demo album, too. I absolutely loved the A&M catalog back then.
Was it me or does Patti LuPone have terrible diction problems? I had to put on the subtitles to make out what she was saying. And the Patti LuPone joke at the end while funny was totally out of place.
It's funny, but I don't find Bonnie Hunt funny at all.
I do love Shuffle Play, though. Especially on the iPod. Yes, I, Pod love Shuffle Play on the iPod. What I find most amazing about the iPod is the brilliance of its concept. And the quality is amazingly amazing. I suppose cassettes are dead now.
DR TCB, I never said I didn't enjoy THE SIXTH SENSE, only that its BIG surprise wasn't a surprise to me at all. I still found it involving and even a bit scary in places. (And what's funny is that THE OTHERS completely fooled me with a similar surprise!)
I went to see UNBREAKABLE with a bunch of teachers on my team at school, and not a one of them liked it at all, so you weren't alone in your feelings. I did, however, love it.
So, Jane, what do you think of Bonnie Hunt? :D
I also find her wonderfully funny, but am consistently disappointed with her sitcom attempts.
I was reasonably good at lunch - no bread, a large Caesar Salad with chicken and shared Spinach Artichoke dip.
I know it was ask question day, but this one came to my mind.
If you could live in any television series which one would it be?
Mine would be a Bewitched, but I would have to be a warlock.
DR Jane: I haven't a klew what you mean by side-by-side photos.
Do you mean one that reflects me "now" as opposed to the one I use?
If so, I've used a more recent photo in the past...and it may still be in the cache.
I like Bonnie Hunt a lot, too. But she constantly insists on doing the improv stuff in all of her show and it rarely worked. Sitcoms just don't lend themselves to that kind of comedy.
I think Bonnie Hunt can be very funnny, but out of loyalty or something she surrounds herself with friends from the Chicago area that she must have worked with or gone to school with, and I found most of them annoying.
Jane, they don't put enough dressing on the salad for it to be fattening.
DRLaura, lovely pictures.
We have a bobcat that lives in our area. I have never seen him up close.
Well, I'm back from my date with Miss PennyO and my friend Richard's exhibit, which was quite enjoyable. Then we had a wonderful dinner (not at Arties!) and I'm ready to crash.
Now about the opening of JEWISH THIGHS in March: opening night is March 16th, Wednesday night, but I think a good HHW night might be Saturday night March 19, because if any Hainsie/Kimlets wanted to come to NYC for the weekend, they might want to catch some other shows before heading out of town.
So, I'll let the DRs decide about the night. Any opinions? PLEASE!!!!!
My close personal friend Susannah Mars' father, Kenneth, is absolutely hysterical on Malcolm in the Middle as the Norsky ranch owner.
I always think Catherine Keener is Tatum O'Neal when I see her in movies.
And I am watching Tess. I had forgotten how much Nastassia Kinski looks/ed like Ingrid Bergman and/or Issabella Rossellini in that movie.
Strange doin's department: I refreshed the page, and, lo and behold (and also behold and lo), everyone's avatar had disappeared and I was no longer a "user," but a "guest." Isn't that weird? That's the first time I've had to re-log in in a long time.
Can some of you techheads help me? Is there a decent shareware sound recorder you can recommend? What I need is something that will record from the line in. We regularly tape the Tigard Pops performances (as in cassette), and then I copy the tapes. I've had a guy who has the capability to burn CDs from the tape for those who want CDs, but he's travelling this session and won't be in the choir. So I need something where I can hook up the cassette player to the computer through my line in, and record a decent quality WAV file that I can then burn to CD. Editing would be nice, too, since I tend to babble between songs at the concerts and would want to delete that for the final CD. Thanks for any suggestions.
(Just in case someone is going to mention this, the sound recorder that comes with Windows won't work because it will only do up to 1 minute. I need something that has no time limit for the recordings).
Kerry- :D
Dan (the Man) I loved NOTHERN EXPOSURE but would not want to live full time with those people. I think Joel was the only sane person in the town. ::)
No credit cards. Don't believe in 'em, don't use 'em.What's in YOUR wallet?
nosy bugger
I always know what to wear when in doubt: Lounging pyjamas, a smoking jacket, and bunny slippers. How can you go wrong? Not a good idea when it's raining. The bunnies don't like getting soaked.
I always though Carl Betz was very handsome. Is there anytning in the sitcom moral code that says you can't sleep with your father? At the time, there was something in the sitcom moral code that said even married parents couldn't sleep together.
No, Promises was not limited. But Ryko gave up and so the CD is out of print, as is Sugar.
Where did our late-night denizens go to? Just a few short nights ago the joint was jumpin' every night.
