Well, you've read the notes, the notes were smart and had cooties, and now it is time for you to post until the cootie cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BIOPHILIA!
-
And a happy birthday to dear reader Laura's ever-lovin' Sandra - one smart and funny cookie who I wish would come back and brighten all our days.
-
First post after BK!
-
...finally!
;)
-
I've only been home for about an hour.
-
Last night, I worked concessions for Pink Martini at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts!
-
Before that, I went to my parents' house for our weekly family dinner. We had tacos, and they were quite delish.
-
As for the concert, it was fantastic! :D
-
They are so good, and I didn't realize that they've been around since 1994!
-
Who knew? I had no clew.
;D
-
They've always signed autographs after their shows and last night was no exception. I bought a poster of their latest CD (I posted about it when I got it a little over a week ago (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=5371.msg1187602#msg1187602)). I got all of their signatures on it. It's downstairs, so I'll take a picture and post it later.
-
I still need to ketchup on most of yesterday's posts, but first...
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Sandra!! :D
-
From yesterday: Larry, my condolences on the loss of your cousin Judy. :(
-
On a happier note (B-natural)...a Very Happy (if slightly belated) Birthday to Keith!
-
Fred, very funny Comey lyrics yesterday! :))
-
Great pictures from yesterday, Jrand!
-
Jrand, the two biddies should be ASHAMED of themselves! :o I've never heard of a donated prize being absconded in that way. >:(
-
And now, I'm off to bed...and sleep. I'm NOT waking up soon. 8)
Have a good day, all!
-
Good day to all
-
And a happy birthday to dear reader Laura's ever-lovin' Sandra - one smart and funny cookie who I wish would come back and brighten all our days.
Yes, her humor is greatly missed.
-
Happy Birthday Sandra 🍰🎁🥂
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy birthday, Sandra!
-
Great photos and horrifying stories, JRand. I guess some people never leave high school, even after 50 years.
-
I survived the competition yesterday but it was interminable and they relocated it without telling anyone. It was more than a mile from the suggested parking garage. A real pain.
-
But the dancing was fine for the most part.
-
Vibes for Jrand’s family.
-
Glad to see you back, TCB.
-
Two!
-
Good morning!
-
Happy Birthday to Sandra!
-
We watched a film last night on CineMax. (We have the service free for the weekend.)
I think it was called ALTITUDE. It was about a plane hi-jacking.
It starred Charlie Sheen's ex. I think her name is Denise Richards. Also Dolph Lundgren.
It was really pretty bad, but like PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, we kept watching because it became more stupid as it went on.
It was like an artistic train wreck.
The director was so bad that, half the time we didn't know who was where and what they were doing.
On the other hand, maybe BK could turn it into a terrific musical, like he did with PLAN 9.
What do you think, BK?
;)
-
Watching The Partridge Family on Antenna TV. BK is playing Freddie!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Getting a slow start on a Sunday morning here.
-
Good morning all!
-
I too slept very late. I fed the cats at 7:00 and went back to bed until 9:00. Annabelle and Thatch joined me for a bit, then ran back to the window to watch the birds. Tomorrow I will be up around 6:30 to make it to my eye appointment. Since The Rapture is supposed to occur tomorrow, I hope it does't screw up my appointment.
-
Today I will pick up and then vacuum the bathroom, the floor of which has become kitty litter hell. It's like walking on the beach. I need a trip to market before I settle down with How To Succeed . . .
-
Thank you, all, for the condolences. There's now a contretemps going on between Judy's daughter Michelle, who wants to cremate the body before shipping the ashes to Ohio for burial, and her sister, who wants to bury a body. I'm with Michelle on this one.
-
DR JRand67, what great photos! You are the epitome of Belle of the Ball and look as though you are having a whale of a good time. I loved the photo of you onstage.
-
Yes indeed. And speaking of which, DR Elmore, did you find the answer to your photo posting difficulties of yesterday?
-
Thank you DR ELMORE, DR CHAS SMITH, and DR GEORGE.
Indeed DR ELMORE I had a wonderful time in spite of the technical snafu.....
I PM'd the jewelry store owner on the store's FB page - it's always fun to raise a little hell and cause trouble for people who deserve it.
Of course I will tell ALL about the result right here on HHW.
-
Now I can concentrate on ANNIE...
-
Happy Birthday Sandra!
-
Nice pics DR Jrand. Condolences on the loss of your cousin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Smart Cooties - by Schaper!
The cooties roll the dice and take YOU apart piece by piece! Fun for the whole family - especially grandma!
-
Happy Birthday to Sandra.
Happy Belated Birthday to Keith.
-
Thank you DR JENNIFER. Much appreciated.
-
Happy Birthday to Sandra.
Happy Belated Birthday to Keith.
Thank you.
-
I don't know, DR ChasSmith.
-
YAY!! :)
-
Clearly, I did. This photo is my cousin Judy with her children Michelle and Jason taken in 1983.
-
Fred, very funny Comey lyrics yesterday! :))
Thank you, George!
-
Watching The Partridge Family on Antenna TV. BK is playing Freddie!
I knew there was a reason i was crazy about BK years before I cyber-met him. :) And they spelled "Freddie" right, too.
-
Happy birthday, Sandra!
-
Late happy birthday to Keith. Make it a birthday weekend.
-
Back from church. Ready for a nap. I have to harvest the loquats today, what few the birds have left me, and make a green chile-apple cobbler for tonight.
-
Oh yeah, and laundry. Mustn't forget that.
-
Now I can concentrate on ANNIE...
Did I make this up, or was it real - I seem to recall one of the "adult" film house marquees in Times Square around ANNIE time on Broadway showing LITTLE OFTEN ANNIE.
-
Oh yeah, and laundry. Mustn't forget that.
But dirty laundry can be fun, too.
Somewhat famous quote: I never repeat scurrilous gossip - so please listen carefully the first time.
-
Now I can concentrate on ANNIE...
Did I make this up, or was it real - I seem to recall one of the "adult" film house marquees in Times Square around ANNIE time on Broadway showing LITTLE OFTEN ANNIE.
I am wrong about the timeline. LITTLE OFTEN ANNIE, with Desiree Lane in the title role, was in 1984. imdb notes that "after a career as one of the top stars in the adult-film industry, she became a born-again Christian and left the business in 1988."
-
I wonder if that film included the "You're Never Fully Dressed" with the famous Jason Graae costuming choice.
-
Good morning.
-
I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin, Elmore.
-
Looks like you had a great time at the reunion, JRand! I skipped my last two. I couldn't lose 30 pounds in time.
-
Yesterday Sandra and I saw the tour of The Color Purple, which, I might add, contained no purple at all.
The set was chairs hung on a wall. I am too stupid to figure out the symbolism in that.
-
Catching up - yes, I echo the love for the reunion reports!!!
-
Yes I did DR LAURA.....but it will probably be the last one I attend....I didn't have THAT much fun. LOL
-
I have ONE milkweed sprout in my little planter - I hope for several more over the next week or so.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! It’s a quiet day here...
-
I've tidied up, made the bed, cleaned the litter, patrolled the hall with Annabelle, gone to market, assembled a new scratching board with a butterfly toy that Thatch loves, assembled my new Lacie external hard drive, and put away the Amazon order. I'm tired.
-
That's pretty cool toy DR ELMORE!
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven-and-a-half hours of sleep.
-
I did not go to my last high school reunion - the one prior to that was it for me. I find that there are too many people who never left high school - that was their glory days, and they revert to that person the minute they walk in the door. While I had a certain amount of fun in high school, all having to do with theater, I would never in a million years consider it my glory days. I couldn't wait till it was over, frankly. And I didn't care for many of my male classmates, several of whom were raging bullies.
-
I had been using IGHome as my homepage since IGoogle went down a few years ago.
But it has become a mess.....too many ads....and video ads that start to play even though you click the button that is supposed to stop them.
Today I switched to ProtoPage....so far so good.....
-
I know some have raved about The Color Purple, both in its original production and its revival - I have never had an iota of interest to see or hear it. I'm sure I'm missing out, but something in me tells me it would be exactly what I think it is.
-
I think this is a common problem MR BK - and one of the reasons I had NOT been to a reunion since the Tenth One.
But this was our 50th and our committee really wanted a good showing for the alumni dinner - and I like MOST of the people on the committee - so I went....but yes for most of the reason you wrote about....it is over for me!
This is a picture of my sister in law Faith (left) and our friend Debbie - you can get a better look at our gym - refurbished of course - from our Jr. High Days. This is looking from the stage end of the building.

John Doyle on the lose. Everybody run!

I did go to mine, despite the bullies. It was so disorganized that I didn’t have to mingle with anyone I didn’t care to see. I may skip the next one.

I couldn't wait to get out of high school either. Not a fun time, though I did play the lead in the Senior play (A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER).
Could wait to graduate from college either and get on with my life.
-
I did go to 3 reunions. The last was the 45th in 1994.
-
I haven't been to any of my high school reunions and have no expectation of attending any future ones
-
Now if we ever had a confirmation class reunion I would be very interested
-
I am shocked by the jewelry story.
It's like a stupid criminal story, if she was unethical enough to actually fix the raffle she should have been smart enough to act surprised (if delighted) when the president won rather then proudly announcing her criminal activity
-
Vixdad and I are currently watching Unfaithfully Yours (the Rex Harrison original).
That may have influenced my previous post
-
I woke up today with a full blown head and chest cold
-
But off to church I went , stopping as usual at the 7-11 for a gallon of milk for coffee hour
-
I was less than delighted to find that the twirlers wh use out gym on Saturday and moved all the tables and chairs against the walls for their practice and then left them there
-
So after starting the coffee machines to heating and resetting the altar for the 9 am service I got to move 6 tables and 48 chairs back into position for coffeehour
-
Fortunately I had a volunteer to host so I got all the supplies out provided instructions and headed into church
-
I was scheduled to be communion assistant but got someone to take my plAce
-
After church I reset the altar and headed out
-
I called Vixdad to see if he wanted an egg sandwich and he did so I stopped at Emma's Deli and had two of them made
-
Vixdad's was scramBled eggs and sausage and mine was egg over easy with muenster cheese and bacon
-
A New York deli egg sandwich is to an egg mcfuffin as an aged filet mignon is to a beef jerky stick
-
Ah.....DR VIXMOM that's a great idea....and reunion with folks you actually have something in common with.
-
When I came home with those lovely sandwiches Vixdad had a nice hot pot of tea ready
-
I changed into jeans and a pj top and have been happily ensconced in my recliner under my softest plush throw ever since
-
Well as happy as one can be with a sore throat, and a case of severe sneezes
-
Jack I am very sorry to hear about your cousins son, 47 is much much too young
-
Elmore that cat scratched looks like lots of fun
-
FJL I loved your my fair lady and I learned the truth at 70 songs ( I say songs because I sang them )
-
Laura I am very happy to hear you are not Lizzie Borden. I am sure your family is delighted as well
-
Bruce=Where Are The Preview Songs From Demi- Dozen?
-
Now if we ever had a confirmation class reunion I would be very interested
Less interested in that than high school. Can’t begin to count the ways.
-
Glad to see you, ArnoldMBrockman.
-
Vixdad and I are currently watching Unfaithfully Yours (the Rex Harrison original).

Love that movie. Watched it during my recent recuperation.
-
Glad to see you, ArnoldMBrockman.
Glad To Be Here Today. Thanks !

Now if we ever had a confirmation class reunion I would be very interested
Less interested in that than high school. Can’t begin to count the ways.
We had four years of weekend retreats, week long confirmation camps and Sunday night activities ....my best friend ever I met on my first retreat 46 years ago
-
I am happy to see TCB rejoined us, vibes of comfort and hugs for you Tommy
-
Welcome back Armold m Brockman
-
They'll be up soon, the audio samples for Demi-Dozen.

Haines His Way (http://www.haineshisway.com/) has been my browser homepage since I joined. I have no need for any other! :D
-
I haven't been to any of my high school reunions and have no expectation of attending any future ones
Ditto. ::) Most of my friends weren't in my class (1984). My choir cohorts were my friends, so there's no point to get together with a LOT of people that I don't even know. :-\

Well as happy as one can be with a sore throat, and a case of severe sneezes
~~~Feel Better Quickly Vibes for Vixmom!!~~~
And here is my autographed Pink Martini poster from last night's concert:
-
And like the CD that I got, the poster has actual felt on it, too! ;D
Nice DR GEORGE
-
Nice DR GEORGE
Thanks, Jrand!
-
Oh, look! It's Page Five!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jrand looks like he's having GREAT FUN (even if he isn't). They're certainly fun photos.
He also looks the picture of health. Glad to see that, Jack!
-
vibes to Cousin Vicki, too.
-
My condolences on the loss of your cousin's son.
-
Happy Birthday to FDR Sandra!
-
TCB, i'm sorry about the loss of your friend. I think it's the hardest part of growing older.
-
Belated birthday wishes to DH Keith.
-
Cold-begone vibes to Vixmom!
-
You were lucky to find Sambucol. All my sources have been sold out for a couple months. I've had to resort to the chewable, which aren't bad, but I don't think they're quite as effective.
-
I attended my 10-year high school reunion. A few of my classmates had interesting careers and were doing well, but so many were not. I found it disappointing and a bit depressing. I haven't gone to one since.
-
Nice poster, George.
-
The cliquish kids all sat together at one table. They seemed to be having a great time, but had no interest whatsoever in any of the rest of us. The only difference between then and high school was that they were all now smoking.
-
Nice poster, George.
Thanks, John!
-
I've often chuckled at women who, long out of high school, still wear their make-up and sometimes their hair as they did in high school, as if they were frozen in time. Yes, they seem to think of high school as their glory days.
-
Hello, DR George! I didn't mean to ignore you, just busy typing.
-
Exactly DR JEANNE that's what happened at my 10th reunion as well...no one talked to anyone they hadn't talked to in school....too soon.
-
John G, when is Cecil's surgery?
-
Thanks for the condolences DR JEANNE et al.....my cousin had just moved in with his son on Monday to help him out with the son's problems....and two days later.... Very sad....
-
Jack, were your classmates friendlier and more open this time? I would think that they would be.
-
Yes DR JEANNE except for the law breaking biddy last night - I had a great time!
I expect to get a response from the jeweler tomorrow....or she may just ignore me - which is okay, too.
My next step would be a short email to my friends in the State of Indiana Attorney General's office.
-
DR GEORGE - I like a home page with links to news and weather and sports and my other oft-visited sites. This page has all of that, plus a picture of a shih-tzu.
-
Much more so DR JEANNE....I think the In Memoriam video kind of sobered some of them up!
-
Flyers out - Penguins move on.
Glad to hear it.
I'm off to my local Ralph's supermarket to pick up a few things.
TTFN.
Pluto retrograde started today.
This planetary period urges us to dig deep into our relationship with power and, first and foremost, sit with it. The longer we reflect, the more in tune we'll become with how our sense of empowerment affects the rest of our lives, from our self-confidence to our friendships.
Given enough time to reflect, we may find the courage to reckon with and even change our approach to control and power. Maybe you'll find a way to use your power to amplify the voices of those with less. Or, you might realize that seeking to control everything in your life is actually to your overall detriment.
For the next FIVE months.
-
Did anyone ever watch (or even hear of) the "reality show," High School Reunion (https://smile.amazon.com/Aloha-Cowboys/dp/B0032UR0YE/)? All of the people had nicknames and Season 3 had Eric, "The Gay Guy." During the six-episode season, he came out as a drag queen and actually has his own YouTube channel in his drag name, MizzHoneyBucket (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuvJjle8NIk4aFNYP8eDhCw). He is now actually the business manager of my library! He's been here a little over a year and a half and he really knows his stuff. He's a great guy and very funny!
-
You were lucky to find Sambucol. All my sources have been sold out for a couple months. I've had to resort to the chewable, which aren't bad, but I don't think they're quite as effective.
I like the dissolvable tablets, the Walgreens near my house only had two boxes, so I bought both of them. The CVS only had Sambucol syrup
-
Hello, Jeanne! No prob. :D
Yes DR JEANNE except for the law breaking biddy last night - I had a great time!
Sounds like a sound plan of action!
-
George I want to touch your poster....and that's NOT a euphemism
-
DR GEORGE - I like a home page with links to news and weather and sports and my other oft-visited sites. This page has all of that, plus a picture of a shih-tzu.
Ahh. I have some pages like that bookmarked, but I like my homepage to be simple and not busy.
-
Good afternoon.
-
I have been looking over my powerpoint presentation that I have to give on Wednesday night. I needed to update it. I am the featured speaker at a town .... something. I have no idea.
-
Laura I am very happy to hear you are not Lizzie Borden. I am sure your family is delighted as well
That was the best quote from the trial, Vixmom.
-
Oh my....
John G, when is Cecil's surgery?
He meets with the surgeon on Tuesday. Hopefully it will be set for soon. His doctor told him that if this surgeon couldn't schedule it quickly, then he had another surgeon to see. The bottom line is that his personal physician wants the operation ASAP.
-
Oh, joy.
-
The green chili-apple cobbler was a hit. I might make one or two slight changes next time, like adding pecans to the crumble topping. But overall the flavors were rich and buttery and wonderful.
-
Back to A Place to Call Home. Regina is on the loose.
-
And Gable's got her!
-
Best wishes for DR LAURA as she stars in the local town something or other.
Watch a couple of Robert Benchley shorts on You Tube.....
-
Cecil's doctor's words are very familiar to me DR JOHN G.
-
Avalanche out - Predators move on.
-
We just watched this movie, Beyond the Reach with Michael Douglas, on one of the cable channels.
Shot in New Mexico, it was a pretty good thriller right up until the last five minutes.
Then, they totally blew it.
>:( >:( >:(
-
And Gable's got her!
Ha!
-
By episode six, this season of A Place to Call home is finally picking up. I want to stay up all night binge watching.
-
Spring has finally arrived. At least for 3 days we will have warm weather and sunshine! At least it looks like there will be no more snow.
That's worth celebrating.
-
Good night, all.
-
Back from Kay's show - she was great and the audience ate her up - more in the notes. Very nice house, too.
-
I think this beautifully written review was done by our very own TCB - he can correct me if I'm wrong, but it just showed up at Amazon and I found it very moving.
"I must confess that I am a huge Bruce Kimmel fan. Is there anything this man can’t do? He is an actor, a producer, a director, a composer, a singer (Guy Haines), a playwright, and a music producer. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to all the above, Kimmel is the author of 17 previous books. And now he has written book number eighteen – GEE.
GEE may very well be the finest book Kimmel has written, to date. It is a story of not one, but two willful and headstrong women. Both “very peculiar girls.” One, GEE (yes, all capitals) is born in the early days of the 20th century; the other, Peyton, is starting life in the 21st century. The first woman we watch living her life, her 94 years of life, through the unfolding decades of America. From the two great wars and the Depression, through JFK and 9/11; GEE experiences all the happiness and all the heartbreak of life. Peyton, at seventeen is truly just beginning to fully experience the world.
Kimmel has carefully and lovingly crafted the stories of these two female characters. Part one tells the story of GEE, and Part two belongs to Peyton. Kimmel’s writing is superb. Once you start reading this book you will find it impossible to put down. How can these two women be so different, and yet, so much alike? You truly won’t want this book to end. I highly recommend this book to everyone. A great read."
-
That's a great review!
Clearly, I did. This photo is my cousin Judy with her children Michelle and Jason taken in 1983.
It is a nice photo.
Late happy birthday to Keith. Make it a birthday weekend.
Absolutely extending it, thank you. Today was another wonderful day. I wish I could drop photos here using my tablet.
It is a shame you didn't enjoy it more.
Funny you see it that way. I know too many people who just like their hair best that way.
-
He meets with the surgeon on Tuesday. Hopefully it will be set for soon. His doctor told him that if this surgeon couldn't schedule it quickly, then he had another surgeon to see. The bottom line is that his personal physician wants the operation ASAP.
Very scary.
-
I'm watching the season finale of "Star Trek Discovery" and Clint Howard is on it. It's a minor role (essentially a cameo), but it's kinda cool that he's on this when he was also on the original series as a child. :)
-
Spring has finally arrived. At least for 3 days we will have warm weather and sunshine! At least it looks like there will be no more snow.
Happy news :)
-
GREAT review DR TCB.
Nice poster George.
Nice poster George.
Thanks, Jane!
Listening to an opera - very late to the party with this composer and shame on me, but this is a stunning work with stunning music: Carlisle Flyod - Susannah. I also have Of Mice and Men by him, and coming are Cold Sassy Tree and Willie Stark. I'm wondering if he wrote just for the opera stage or if he did orchestral music.
When I was going to Western Washington University, Heidi Grant Murphy (https://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/29/arts/music/29murphys.html) (then just Heidi Lynn Grant), who had graduated from Western a couple of years earlier (her last year was my first year and we were in concert choir together that one year) came back and gave a recital. Among her selections were two arias from Susannah: "Ain't It a Pretty Night" and "The Trees on the Mountains Are Cold and Bare." She was fantastic, even then, and the songs were beautiful.
Ain't It a Pretty Night is stunning. This, for me, is right up there with Robert Ward's The Crucible, and much better than the Douglas Moore operas I've heard (and issued). I've got a live recording from 1962 on its way - I'm not thrilled with the sound of the Virgin Records Susannah - it's dull and has no sparkle and it should. I could probably take it and do what we did with The Crucible, but that won't be happening.
TCB, you could not have written it more beautifully. I found it very touching and I'm more than happy you enjoyed the book, which is very special to me, as you've probably figured out.
Have you been working on yours?
I truly loved your book. You should be very proud.
I have set my book aside until I figure out where I want to go with it.
I'm watching the season finale of "Star Trek Discovery" and Clint Howard is on it. It's a minor role (essentially a cameo), but it's kinda cool that he's on this when he was also on the original series as a child. :)
Well, I've finished watching season 1 of "Star Trek Discovery," and then I watched the last "After Trek," which is an interview show after each episode. It was fun and informative. I wonder if any of these will be on the "Star Trek Discovery" DVDs.
-
Probably not.
BK, was the error on the first set of books, th printing on the spine of Gee?
-
TCB, if you mean the Gee on the spine of the actual book, it's a mistake but not the one, as we didn't provide them with that. For those who are interested, the slight error is that the entire book is off-center and over to the right more than it should be. No one has ever noticed, but once you see it you'll know instantly. It was baffling as to how it could happen, but it's fixed in the second run - so those first forty copies are the first state of the book :)
Also, if you want my two centimes, you should pick up the book and start writing again - let the book lead you, don't try to lead the book. That, for me, is the most magical part of writing - where the book starts to write you. While I had the general bones of GEE there were many times when the book just took me places I would never have thought about going - it just happened spontaneously. Even if you're not happy with what you're writing, once you start up you'll be in that mode and you always go back and futz and finesse. As you may remember, it took me about eleven passes to get those final three pages exactly right and I was adjusting them right up until I sent the book in and until Muse Margaret and I felt the tone was perfect. Two of my proofers knew it wasn't quite there when they got the book, and it wasn't, and when I sent them the redo they both knew it was exactly right. So, don't be afraid of the unknown - embrace it.
