Tomorrow is indeed Turkey Day, but we're not having turkey. I decide i was a big person and didn't have to spend the day with family. So Lyn and David and I will have tacos (or watever we manage to find) and see a movie.
ASK BK:
Have you ever thought about do color correcting (or whatever it is called) for the DVD releases to show poeple how the colors should be done correctly?
My first question for ASK BK day....when you are directing a multi act play, do you wait until the end of rehearsal to give ALL notes, or do you give ACT ONE notes after Act One and Act Two notes after Act Two?
I like to give them all at the end of the evening....
Bruce, did you get my mail order for Ripley and Skinner at Town Hall? I mailed it to the Kritzerland address last week.
Networking can be a good thing.
We have a Thanksgiving Dinner that would send BK on a rant to end all rants (witness the "Boca Burger incident" of last year ;D). We have Tofurkey and an excellent turkey-like roast made of (I kid you not) mushroom fungus made by Quorn. Mmmmmm.....doesn't that sound appetizing? Topped off by DS Betsy's incredibly wonderful apple pie.
Alright, BK, please feel free to bitch-slap me for only posting when I need something... but since it's Ask BK Day, let me ask you something (and everyone else, I'd love your advice on this too):
Other than PPI and Millrose, can you recommend a good recording studio in NYC that I might be able to book for MONDAY? I just need a couple hours, and I also need testimonials to convince my boss and the client that the place has a good rep. And by testimonials, I mean I need to be able to drop some names, i.e.: "Oh, yeah, Michael Feinstein and Anne Hampton Callaway record there all the time. Alex Rybeck brings all his people there."
PS - Naturally, I SAW Alex last night and didn't think to ask him at the time. Duh.
THANKS, everyone! Commence bitch-slapping.
It got me my new job!
And here I thought our vibes did it!
I have finally finished my Deep Discount DVD ordering. Four separate orders with four different 20%-off codes.
Sigh!
Neophyte. ;)
... and it was tasty but not as good as mine, which is cooked with French shallots in a bottle of champagne. (No jokes about how I got the turkey into the bottle, please!)

What is the world coming to?? ;)

For all TAR fans did you know the next installment of TAR will be THE AMAZING RACE allstars?
I'm not really sure who will be involved (although i think it has started filming).
I heard there will be no winners. What do you guys think about that?
Rumored to have been seen at the airport: Rob and amber, charla and mirna, and the guidos. My sis said she read Joyce and Uchenna and maybe even dave and mary (from kentucky).
I love romber so i am happy. Hopefully some of my other favorites will make it (i like competitive).
Back in the 80's, I used to have my "orphan" VMC co-workers over to my house for T-Day. Now it's much more complicated. My parents are divorced so I don't see my father. We cook the turkey to take to my mom's house where there will be @ a dozen people, then rush over to Greg's parents, an hour south of there, and try to celebrate the same with them. (You really have to pace your food intake for this event.)
I'm hoping this year Greg will be able to get our stove working...it's been out of commision for over a year. We bought the turkey last year already prepared and it was tasty but not as good as mine, which is cooked with French shallots in a bottle of champagne. (No jokes about how I got the turkey into the bottle, please!)
Until then, I'm stuck here looking at 30+ hours of comic relief footage.
Next year I hope to have everyone at our new house for T-Day and no more rushing around from house to house!
I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem to be a custom here on the East Coast, at least not around Rehoboth. Maybe the ties that bind us to our families are stronger here. Either that, or the blue laws are stronger. :-\
Actually, there is a different "capitalist" reason. In Delaware what are normally called "bars" are illegal (there are three "grandfathered "establishments in the state): venues that serve alcoholic beverages must have a full-service kitchen, and 80% of their revenue must be derived from food sales (I'm sure the accountants have a grand time with this). So, a waterhole that offered a free buffet would be competing with its own kitchen!

Good night! I think there's much flooding in our future.
Are you editing the video of highlights for Comic Relief?
Not if the kitchen is closed and it is an appreciation for the best patrons who will be happy to have a friendly place to go for the holiday and will in return provide much revenue for the rest of the year....sort of a loss leader

Happy Thanksgiving EVERYone! (http://www.jacquielawson.com/viewcard.asp?code=GM26534313) Including those who don't celebrate it!
You are welcome JRand56!
I doubt there are many turkeys around either...
I, for one, would like visual documentation.
Thank you Ron
No sign of Pilgrims nor of Fishnet Indians here. I
Enjoy your Sheb Wooley DR JRand. (I'm a Ben Colder fan)

That's also what I'll be looking for. :D
LOL Michael. I may need JRand's spiritual help to locate the disc. It is here - somewhere!
It will be in the last place you look. ;D
To facilitate the frequent travel of those living in U.S. border communities and those traveling on commercial maritime vessels, the Department of State has committed to producing a passport card that incorporates cutting-edge technology. The technology incorporated in the proposed card was designed in coordination with DHS specifically to address the operational needs of land border-crossings. The proposed passport card would use long-range, or vicinity, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to link the card to a secure U.S. government database containing biographical data and a photograph. The card itself will not contain any personal information, and DHS will implement protections to keep the database secure.Note: the use of RFID technology means agentts can pick you out of a crowd based on a card in your wallet!

Well DRRLP - I switched to ABC and saw the last five minutes of General Hospital today....lovely Laura is back in the sanitarium in a catatonic state, and Luke was saying goodbye....and they has some clips of their wedding day.... And it did make me sad. I like the actors a LOT....I just don't like the story line.... Of course I wanted Laura to stay with Scotty....
I was hoping the second of my three DDD orders would arrive today, but no such luck. I'll have to make do tonight and tomorrow with what is already here. No problem.
A friend just sent me this e-mail:

Tomovoz - Profuse thanks for the Bunbury book and calendar.
It will be very instructive, especially if that Australian production ends up happening.
ATLANTA — A police official said narcotics officers were justified in returning fire on a 92-year-old woman they shot to death after she shot them as they tried to serve a warrant at her house.
…
Assistant Chief Alan Dreher said the officers had a legal warrant and "knocked and announced" before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in shooting once they were fired upon.
As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., a woman inside started shooting, striking each of them, said Officer Joe Cobb, a police spokesman.
One was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder. The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all three were conscious and alert, police said.
Sarah Dozier, identified as a niece of the woman, told WAGA-TV that there were never any drugs at the house.
"My aunt was in good health. I'm sure she panicked when they kicked that door down," Dozier said. "There was no reason they had to go in there and shoot her down like a dog."
Rev. Markel Hutchins, a civil rights leader, said Johnston's family deserves an apology.
"Of the police brutality cases we've had, this is the most egregious because of the woman's age," Hutchins said.

Is any movie currently being "buzzed" about?OSCAR FRENZY (http://www.oscarfrenzy.com/category/predictions/2007-predictions/)
Breaking and Entering - The Weinstein Company
Dreamgirls - Dreamworks/Paramount
Flags of Our Fathers - Dreamworks/Warner Bros.
The Good Shepherd - Universal
United 93 - Universal
The favorite at this point has got to be Dreamgirls. The advance buzz has been terrific and a limited screening of select scenes reportedly drew raves. Furthermore, after a couple years of relatively depressing, issue-driven films, the Academy mgiht be ready to embrace a rousing, show-stopping musical. Closely behind Dreamgirls are Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers and De Niro’s CIA drama The Good Shepherd. Though skeptics doubt Eastwood can follow up Million Dollar Baby with a second Best Picture win, if anyone can do it, it’s the Clint. One question here is whether audiences are up for another war movie, especially given the state of current events.
Goya’s Ghosts, directed by Milos Forman and starring Javier Bardem and Natalie Portman, is probably next on the step ladder. One obstacle dogging this picture is whether or not it will be finished in time, being that it is still currently in production. Forman, as well, could be a little rusty being that he has not directed a film since Man on the Moon.
Two fillms that were once high on the Best Picture radar, but now sinking fast, are Scorsese’s The Departed and Steven Zaillian’s All the King’s Men remake. Early reviews of Marty’s gang thriller reveal it to be unfocused and in need of better editing. While this is typical for Scorsese films, this is never a good sign. All the King’s Men, meanwhile, suffers from the fact that the original already won a Best Picture. That, along with the film’s release date being pushed back twice do not bode well.
Speaking of also-rans, perhaps the biggest one is Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, which got trashed at Cannes. We could have told you so. Something about Kristen Dunst as the French ‘heroine’ just didn’t seem right.
Two of the biggest question marks of the fall season are Mel Gibson’s Mayan epic Apocalypto and Emilio Estevez’s Bobby. While both certainly have the potential of being Best Picture material, they also run the risk of catering only to a select audience. With Apocalypto, the big question may be whether or not this is more of an adventure film or a historical epic. The fact that Passion of the Christ was passed over a few years back could possibly help Gibson with Academy voters.

It’s 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Dinner is at 2 p.m. And the turkey, which has been thawing for days in the refrigerator, still feels frozen solid.
Solution
Give the bird a cold bath. Water is a much better conductor of heat than air in the refrigerator, so this method works faster, says Robert L. Wolke, professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh and the author of What Einstein Told His Cook 2 (W.W. Norton, $26, www.amazon.com). Fill a large bucket or the kitchen sink with cool water and plunge the bird in, in the original wrapper, breast-side down.
If the turkey has been defrosting in the refrigerator for several days, a mere half hour may do the trick. If you need to defrost a fully frozen turkey on the double, allow half an hour per pound. The U.S. Department of Agriculture advises changing the water every 30 minutes or so. (Birds labeled “fresh” can be chilled to 26° F, which explains why such turkeys can unexpectedly turn out to be partially frozen. The USDA suggests that you buy a fresh turkey no more than 2 days before you roast it.) No matter how dire the situation, don’t thaw a turkey at room temperature.
(Not all the habits live in NZ).

NOT REALLY A MEDIUM SPOILER>>
Matt I just saw your MEDIUM post. I understand why you like it, but the legal basis of what pulls it all together is flawed. So, it left me feeling cheated rather than a good payoff. That's why I don't watch those shows.
You understand that most of us who don't have such inside information about how the legal system works can find much enjoyment in a show like this or the various LAW & ORDERs.
Sorry it bothers you enough to make the viewing unpleasant.
Wow! Cilla! In the blink of an eye, your avatar changed! Looks very summery where you are!
...the cranberry sauce...
Betcha didn't replace 25% of the liquid with Grand Marnier, like I did :D

Who likes some sauce in his sauce!
Hello... http://www.guntheranderson.com/liqueurs/cranberr.htm
http://www.cooksrecipes.com/beverage/mulled_cranberry_wine_recipe.html
And if you use the rubber rings like I do, clean them as well. You can't spend enough time cleaning.
Though I think I'd prefer some sort of cranberry wine or liqueur.
Another ask BK:
I have a paypal account, but I am having trouble linking up from your site to paypal. Also can I order multiple copies and get reduced postage rate?
Or
Can I pick them up when I am in LA to see the show?
I have another ask BK question.
I was listening to your King and I recording tonight and was wondering why you elected not to record The Small House of Uncle Thomas. (I think you explained it once, but I forgot.)
Also were the other numbers like: The Royal Bangkok Academy, Priest Chant/Children Sing, A Puzzlement (Reprise with Louis & Chulalonglork) and Western People Funny omitted from the recording because they were dropped from this production?
Thanks
One more:
Is contracted to have the cast and production credits on the back cover instead of the song listings?
MEDIUM had a fabulous episode tonight, as Allison (like Taye Diggs in his show) relived the same day with different (often horrifying) changes from day to day.
But I love how it all fell together. A great payoff for the viewer at the end.
BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't Patricia Arquette's Emmy submission episode, especially that jaw dropping monologue she delivers to Ariel about changing her attitude. What an eye-opener!
Wow! Cilla! In the blink of an eye, your avatar changed! Looks very summery where you are!
Yes, I understand completely, but with a little tweak - and I'm talking changing a couple lines, the story would have held up and that's what bugs me.
I mean, theoretically, someone could do a musical with the overall premise of GROUNDHOG DAY without getting the rights to GROUNDHOG DAY, as long as they invented their own procession of events, if these shows can do it on TV - or am i missing something?
