I got to NYC about 5 minutes after Follies closed, and have been depressed about it ever since. So that would be my choice.
GOOD MORNING-WOODY and DER BRUCER et alThat's the benefit we went to, and that's the song!
Mosey over to BroadwayWorld.com and see and hear a song from the planned Musical of CATCH ME IF YOU CAN performed by Marc Shaiman called FIFTY CHECKS. This was at a benefit for Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman at a Bound Brook,New Jersey Benefit.
Woody and Der Brucer I know you were there!!
The net is still acting a little odd and I still get some pop ups.
Wonder what the most valuable DVD is at the moment?
I'm guessing LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS that has the original ending. Any others that folks know for a fact are in short supply and being searched for by fans?
Re: Little Shop. As with all these "rare" DVDs, etc., that get listed with great regularity on eBay, it's a crapshoot on how much they'll go for. I got my Little Shop on eBay several years ago for a mere $25.00, more or less what I would have paid for it in a store. But I have seen them go regularly for upwards of $100. I am continually amazed by the lack of logic on eBay--I have listed incredibly rare items that fail to get a bid, and watched as readily available items are fought over in bidding wars that get the ultimate sale price to stratospheric levels. I guess that's part of the fun.
Who was the wag who said if everyone who claims to have seen Anyone Can Whistle actually had, it would have run forever?
Elmore, I think it was you who mentioned a Chinese restaurant in NY with good bean curd. Not that it was actually a vegetarian restaurant. If I can get to NY in October to see my nieces, and also meet you and the rest of the NY HWW gang, I doubt Keith will be with me.
I really would like to see a good production of Lady in the Dark, but feminists today would be screaming about the ending, I'm sure.
Actually, I don't see the problem, since she ends up deciding to make what's-hiz-name the co-editor, an equal partnership. Only one line would need to be dropped: "And maybe some day I'll step aside and..."I will admit, I've had to bite my tongue a few times, to avoid calling any supervisor I've had who didn't like being called Mister "Boss Lady" instead.
And let me add the news that our lovely niece Andrea and her partner Debby are the proud parents of a daughter Cody, who arrived last Sunday, just three days before my Joe and Andrea's common birthday. [Nothing common about it!] You remember, Andrea is the one who used to protest, "Uncle Joe, I am not a lesbian!"Clearly, she was waiting until she found someone she could be called Lesbians instead. There's something to be said about being part of a plural.
I've never seen A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC or FOLLIES on stage.
Haven't seen COMPANY since I saw it decades ago in Toronto in a touring production with George Chakiris. Want to see it again.
td: Was it your good self that gave "Whale Rider" such a good review? I thought it was very good indeed. Terrific performance by a young actress.
I guess we should be listing the operas we would like to see Jay. Can't do it. That gene thing again.
I've yet to see "E.T." (Not the opera!)
Yes! DR Jane, yes! It was Ollie's. They have fantastic "country style bean curd," which I love and great dim sum and wonton. Let's do it.
DR Jane, there are many vegetarian restaurants all over New York and one of them is called Zen Palate.
So I'm off.
I also saw Whale Rider a few months ago, and liked it.
But it was a very different type of film, which I'm sure would not be everybody's cup of tea.
It was quite interesting though that the little girl got nominated for an Oscar.
Has anybody read the tragic MOW story of Smarty Jones - bk's winning Kentucky Derby horse?
Better than Seabiscuit!
Welcome ten GUESTS. Today's soup of the day is cream of mushroom.
I have eaten at Zen Palate. Blechhh. Vegetarian + BK = Blechhh. You're sounding like der Brucer. Tofu is too fooey.
Gee...I can count my redneck drag queen friends on one hand. But I guess three is enough. Most of the places are apparently doing a good job. Yes, there is enough room in most of them, by fitting a temporary stage into a corner or, in a surprising number of cases, having a stage area that's used on a frequent basis.
SWW...are the places doing the cabaret thing big enough to host shows comfortably? Most restaurants usually don't have enough room. And bad cabaret with with your pasta and meatballs...is like bad cabernet with your meatballs....errr...something like that.
Now, DRTomovoz is raving to me about Della Reese but that has nothing to do with cows, right?
Unless she sang Cow Cow Boogie and that was Ella's specialty!
Oh I'm so confused that I don't to get married today!
I just want to be loved, loved, loved! not Lowett! Loved!
And the lusty month of may is the month to be loved, the month of yes you may, Sir Lancelot!
Do you dance a lot?
Dance a little closer, please!
Dance the olf fashioned way, would say dear olf -- 80 -- Charles!
Not Prince Charles, Ben!
Aznavour, biensûr! Mike Connors' pal!
They're both Armenian, you know...
Oh, here comes the ambulance!
We haven't had a Saturday like this in a 'coon's age.Somewhere in my cookbook collection I've probably got something on proper 'coon cookage, but I'm gonna pass on that for a bit. :-\
Mr. Haines is available for the Cabaret venue - just book it and he'll be there, I promise. The Cabaret Fest is an annual event. Tell Mr. Haines that by this time next year we hope to have the house in order so he'll have a place to stay, and we'll find a suitable venue for him. He'd be sure to be a hit.
