Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little pith and a little piss, and now it is time for you to post until the pithy/pissy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LOUCHE!
-
Hmmm, guess I have the playing field all to myself. I promised I wouldn't do more than fifteen and I won't. That is, if I can think of fifteen - this is not as easy as some others we've done.

-
Welcome eight GUESTS.
-
Where in tarnation are our late-night players? I should just keep posting names as they come to me, if that's how it's going to be.
-
Make that seventeen GUESTS. Can you believe the WUSSBURGERING around here? Now's a perfect time to post and show your prowess with M.T.
-
Ah, Rothman's here - so here come fifteen more.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up.... And I didn't realize that these initials were that cherche. ;)
-
I could always throw my other option into the ring. ;)
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JHVW!!!!!
-
OH! Food and "Food Holder" pics! ;D
Looks like you had a lovely time and a delicious dinner.
-
And now I need to finish packing up before we head to the train station. I may or may not have internet access on the train - even with my iPhone - since the Amtrak tracks always seem to travel through a lot of dead spots, and if that happens, I know I'll have some posts to catch up on once I'm back in NYC. -Which is a good thing.
Laters...
-
Marty Thomas - Currently in Broadway's Xanadu
-
I don't know anyone louche, do you? ;)
I've known a number of people who play fast and LOUCHE.
-
Bruce knows when the game is starting. I don't.
He posts his first 15 names before I'm even out of the blocks. That's the Home Field Advantage. But it's OK with me. Just more of a challenge. So we do 15, then close down until morning. I can level the playing field somewhat because my morning starts 3 hours before his does. So I wait until someone else says "Good Morning" and posts a name. I think that's only fair. This has happened. So I'm going to post a handful of names, but only those I think Bruce might get, or already have up his sleeve.
-
Morty S. Tashman-----Jerry Lewis in "The Errand Boy".

Recap of the Birthday Dinner:
My original thought was to head to Japonica, a sushi restaurant near the Boardwalk here in Rehoboth Beach. While walking through town (we've been parking outside the town limits, due to the parking meter rates having skyrocketed lately, and that's assuming you can even find a parking spot :P), der Brucer also tossed out a couple of other names: Delfino's, a new Italian spot, and Porcini House (http://www.capegazette.com/storiescurrent/200803/porcini032808.html), where chef Jay Caputo plays with Mediterranean ideas. Chef Jay is regularly dropping by the store for fresh produce, and we've gotten to know each other a bit, but der B and I have never stopped by his restaurant, so I decided to change our plans a bit and we headed on over. Very nice place, great ambiance, good service.
The birthday dinner ACT I
Dip - three ways
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0001.jpg)
The three dips being guacamole, hummus, and spicy cheese. A nice way to start, and very popular - two other tables near us also had this as a starter.
Tuna Tartare (sorry Charley)
That's a tartare of tuna on top of diced cucumber, with a citrus reduction. Good combination of flavors. The ring-mold presentation is a bit old-fashioned - maybe if I suggest to Chef Jay that he try a box mold instead, just for the surprise of it.
Gab-fest
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0003.jpg)
der Brucer
We ended up having a very nice conversation with the couple next to us, who are moving here from Philly. Der B taking pictures was what started the talk going: "Evidence for the lawsuit?" the husband suggested.
-
Margaret Trudeau-----Half of a scandal ridden marriage with Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
-
Michelle Triola----originator of the Palimony Suit, when she sued Lee Marvin. Later palled up with Dick Van Dyke.
-
Gardening Columnist Martha Tate
-
Meshach Taylor----Black actor, regular on "Designing Women".
-
Director Michael Tuchner-worked with him and G.W. Bailey on my first film job.
-
Great old character actress Mary Treen.
-
Michael Taylor-editor of that very same film: SUMMER OF MY GERMAN SOLDIER, as well as QUADROPHENIA and other British films.
-
Japanese actress Miiko Taka. ("Sayonara")
-
Michael Taylor-Sci-Fi TV writer
-
Melody Thomas----soap opera queen. "The Young and the Restless" Now known as Melody Thomas Scott. But when I worked with her, many many years ago, she was Melody Thomas.
-
Margaret Tyzack. Der Brucer and I saw her opposite Maggie Smith in the final preview of Lettice and Lovage, the comedy by Peter Shaffer. She's done lots of other things, too, like some film work with Kubrick, but seeing her live on stage as the sensible half of the pair was wonderful.
-
I'll save more for later.
-
Mike Thevis-"The Scarface of Porn", also owned a recording studio here in Atlanta. Not a resident we're particularly proud of...
-
Michael Tronik-Film Editor (HAIRSPRAY and tons of other stuff)

Mary Tudor-one of THE TUDORS

Good Morning, once again.
Hopefully, my train will be leaving on time five minutes from now.

Birthday Dinner Act II
Duck Confit for Woody
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0004.jpg)
Duck confit can be terribly salty. Chef Jay's was lucious and crispy, not salty at all. Here it's served with a combination of scallion, white beans, and roasted squash. Delicious.
Special Cobb (duck confit, avocado, etc. Green Goddess for me)
der Brucer
Yep, it really was Green Goddess dressing! How funny that it should show up, after our discussion of same just a few days ago! I'll have to tell Chef Jay about that next time I see him.
-
Hmmm... Why do the wrong people travel?
So is the Natural History Museum in New York set up like a ride now to make it seem like the movie?
-
DR SWW - Pyramid molds are where it's at right now. Both three and four-sided ones. ;)

Birthday dinner Act III
Lemon Tart
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0006.jpg)
Obviously, we got a little eager here! Wonderful lemon tart, reminded me very much of my mother's lemon merangue pie, only without the merangue of course. The tart took on a double meaning here.
Moose
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0007.jpg)
That's Mousse, you silly! Der Brucer let me have a small spoonful - very rich, dark chocolatey. I don't blame him for grabbing the plate back!
ENCORE - Woody showing off our USNA OUT T-Shirts
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/GEORDIEMC/Family/SFWBDay0008.jpg)

Nothing a few sit-ups won't cure. A few thousand, that is. ::)
USNA OUT is the gay Annapolis grad group. Der Brucer is a member. Really nice shirt, too, great fabric made for runners, clingy and cool (in both senses of the word).
-
And we're off! I have an hour's "pause" in DC, so I should be able to check back in then if not sooner. In the meantime, I nap.

-
We saw the superb French suspense film Tell No One (Ne le dis à personne) yesterday, and highly recommend it. I believe a few other DRs have mentioned this in recent months.
-
Tom MacRae. Wrote the two-part story "Age Of Steel"/"Rise of the Cybermen" for the second series of Doctor Who. Also wrote the teleplay for Miss Marple: At Bertram's Hotel, so he's not just a sci-fi scribe.
Wait a sec, I did my usual reversing of the initials again, didn't I!!! Oops, my bad!!! ::)
-
Ming Tsai, chef, television host.
-
Happy Birthday to DR JHVW and his twin.
-
Marshall Thompson, actor.
-
And now I am hungry and anticipating MY dinner which is HOURS away.
-
Matt Lewis Thorne, who has joined her husband John in his writing about food in books such as Pot On the Fire and Serious Pig. Good wordsmithing, I recommend their stuff.

Maria Tallchief---ballerina
Is this a correction, or an addition?
Never mind, looked it up - correction.
-
Michele Tafoya - sportscaster
-
(Maria Tallchief)----My mistake. At least I knew the name. And I knew she needed an orchestra to function. And that she wasn't a ballplayer.
-
Good morning, all!
I just had a phone call about the Grand Jury on the break-in last July 2006, so I'm of to Court on Wednesday.
The question for today is, is it time to take apart the bedding, launder it all, and spray the floor with pesticides again?
MARIANNE TATUM!
-
I spoke to my Mac man, John; it looks as if I'll need to cart my Mac down to Tekserve on 23rd Street. Damn.
So, no new iTunes for a while, I guess.

...
MARIANNE TATUM!
It's a good thing I read the full post, Elmore, or I wouldn't have realized you were adding a name to our list!
Separate posts make this easier. One name per post.
-
Marshall Tito----Yugoslav dictator.
I riffed this one off Marshall Thompson.
-
We're almost in DC. Almost. Blame the freight train in front of us. Not me. ;)

DR elmore - The "lurker" could have also checked his blog stats, and noticed the hot-linking from HHW yesterday. And then checked to see the what and why.

In other words, a hit is a hit, and a ping is a ping.

DR elmore - Would you like me take a look at your iTunes? -And that is not a euphemism.

Another present day composer...
Michael Torke

I love her, and she's been around a long time so I LOVE watching an old movie or TV show, and she shows up.
She's in my very favorite episode of MISS MARPLE (Joan Hickson version) ever: NEMESIS.

Maurice Templeman... I think he was married to Jackie Onassis
Not a 100% sure on the spelling...
-
Actually, DR SWoody White, the very beautiful Marianne Tatum played Jinny Lind in BARNUM with Jim Dale, she also played Anna opposite Yul Brynner, and in the Romberg-Gershwin ROSALIE in concert at Town Hall, Maranne sang my orchestrations of "The Man I Love" and several other numbers.
She married and retired, I believe, and I hope she is well. I was quite fond of her.
-
76 - Hmmm... That's 71 more names than I initially thought of when I submitted those initials to bk. ;)
-
So... Who gets to submit next week's initials?
;)
-
Maurice Templeman... I think he was married to Jackie Onassis
Not a 100% sure on the spelling...
Maurice Templesman. Diamond merchant. Not married to Jackie O - he was her live-in boyfriend.

None of which you stated when you gave her name. I had no idea who she might be, other than someone of whom you gave a name.

Happy Happy Birthday to jhvw!!
I hope he checks in today.
The last time he was here was on his birthday LAST year.
It's possible he'll look to see if he has been remembered....Miss Karen did!
;)

....Miss Karen did!
Using that phrase still leaves a lot on the table... 8)

I just read something I know fans of the TV series LIFE will be interested to know.
When the new TV season begins in late September, NBC is going to run LIFE for a few weeks after HEROES on Monday nights. After it plays there into mid-October, it will be moved to its regular Friday at 10 slot.
Christian Slater's new series MY OWN WORST ENEMY will then take over the Monday at 10 slot after HEROES.

Using that phrase still leaves a lot on the table... 8)
And the table is huge! :D

Marie Torre----TV critic for the old New York Herald-Tribune. When it folded, she went to TV Guide for a while.

Now, I must head downstairs and get cleaned up for lunch out with best friend John.
WBBL.
-
And now, for my athletes----
Meldrick Taylor, pro and Olympic boxing champ.
-
Margot Tenenbaum, character in "The Royal Tenenbaums".
-
Mike Torrez----pitched for the Yankees, Mets, and others.
Liked to throw at batter's heads. Occasionally made contact.
-
Mark Tobey - one of my favorite painters
-
Mike Timlin---veteran relief pitcher, currently with the Red Sox.
-
Miguel Tejada---current shortstop for the Houston Astros.
-
Mike Taliaferro---was Joe Namath's back-up Quarterback for the Jets.
-
None of which you stated when you gave her name. I had no idea who she might be, other than someone of whom you gave a name.
I assumed she was a household name.
-
Never assume.

Japanese actress Miiko Taka. ("Sayonara")
One tiny correction that I want to mention, Miiko Taka is actually not Japanese but rather American. She was born in Seattle, Washington and her real first name is Betty.

DR MBarnum - I think you will be VERY pleased with the leading review on the NY Times Music page. :)
-
Is that so, DR Jose? How does one find this review?
-
The only one I regret not including in my initial fifteen is Morty Tashman, which I thought of just after I thought of the others.
-
Wonderful choices on difficult initials - I think most of the ones I thought of are now taken, including Marta Toren, which I thought of when I got up. I missed it by minutes.
-
But, I have a few.
Mark Taylor - actor (we frequently were up for the same parts during the latter part of my career), married to Judy Taylor, casting director.
-
Hi from slightly less hellaciously hot southern Oregon. We have been very busy riding bikes (not horses), visiting the really cool (literally and figuratively) lava tubes of northern California, and just kicking back. I also went insane at the local Fred Meyer the other day--they are remodeling and having 60% off sales all over the place (they never get that high up in PDX), so I got some incredibly cool shirts made of bamboo that originally sold for $50-60, each for about $8.00 after markdowns and final 60% off. Have any of you worn bamboo clothing? It's unbelievably soft.
-
Mario Tosi - Eyetalian cinematographer, photographed De Palma's Carrie. Also did The Stunt Man, MacArthur, and many other films of the 70s.
-
Mark Trabulus - short-lived executive in charge of production at Paramount, and the man responsible for Paramount purchasing The First Nudie Musical and, because of my reaction, passing on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Also responsible for forcing me to shoot a new sequence for Nudie - which became Dancing Dildos.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to (former?) DR JHVW!!
-
Marion Tumen - script supervisor on The First Nudie Musical, and now one of the most well-respected script supervisors working, with such films as the Back To The Future trilogy to her credit.
-
Michael Tavera - film composer, a lot of made for DVD sequels to huge successes like Lilo and Stitch, plus many animation TV programs.
-
Micah Torrance, the marshal on "The Rifleman"
-
Christian Slater's new series MY OWN WORST ENEMY will then take over the Monday at 10 slot after HEROES.
I've been watching the commercials for this new show for a while now, and it just hit me (gently, though) a couple of days ago that the characters' names are Henry and Edward...as in Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde!

I have a bamboo shirt that I got from Fred Meyer! I love it. It is very soft...but wrinkles easily. I wonder if they're having a sale up here in Washington! I have a Fred Meyer Rewards coupon for 40% (I think) off one apparel item. AND those rewards coupons can be used on items that are on sale! I'll check it out. :D

Oh, and the only advantage I have is that I'm usually the only one who hasn't WUSSBURGERED. Long before the game, we had quite a few late-night denizens. Everyone knows when the notes are posted -

I went to bed early last night and it took me a long time to get to sleep...and then my darned cat woke me at about 4 am. :P I found it very difficult to get back to sleep.
-
Melinda Tanner - former LACC theater person, now character actress, mostly stage, but some television guest shots, too, including Law and Order.
-
And now...

...to work! Have a good day, all. ;D

Michelle Tanner, character name of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson on "Full House"

That/she was actually the inspiration for choosing the initials. I was wondering when she would pop up.

Thanks Jose! I did not realize the Unforgettable Tour was going to come to the US. I had best check their tour schedule! It looks like fun!
-
Character actor (B'wy and film) Manu Tupou.
-
It's a lovely morning!
Sorry, but I can't think of anything pithy or pissy to say.
-
Character actor Malachi Throne - appeared on virtually every TV series EVER.
-
Maria Tucci - Tony-nominated B'way actress.
-
I think I've made up for my sleepy time.

You're very welcome, Michael. -See what you can learn from reading the newspaper?
*My friend who has been assisting with Mr. Abraham's current US gig, said it was one of the best concert experiences he's ever had. He was most impressed with the lack of "bad" audience members.

Manu Tupou.

Milo Tindle - the character played by Michael Caine in the film of Sleuth.

Of course, macchus disappears as soon as I get on my M.T. roll.

Marcel Theroux, writer, son of Paul Theroux
-
I only know from T.P. rolls
That's not so....you know from Tootsie Rolls, as well!
-
Thanks for reminding me, DR Ron Pulliam! :)
-
DR singdaw - So what did you think of the Heirloom Tomato Frozen Custard from Shake Shack? I really do like the Basil and think it would pair well. ;)
-
DR SWW - you are doing an awsome job keeping our Name Game list updated today - thank you!
He always does!
-
DR JoseSPiano - I didn't try it. I decided on a Concrete for my first visit. Although the basil and tomato paired, as you suggested above, sounds intriguing.
*edit: took out the "very." Would DR Tomovoz say that "very intriguing" is redundant...sort of like "very unique"? ;)
-
Well, someone did Mary Tinker (a stretch) but I'll do Mark Tinker, son of Grant and Mary and a producer for MTM.
-
Mary, Marry, Merry! ;)
-
Melinda Tanner - former LACC theater person, now character actress, mostly stage, but some television guest shots, too, including Law and Order.
RIFF:
Mary Ellen Tanner (http://www.wmkvfm.org/?PageID=45&ProgID=30)
I bet DR Charles Pogue, and maybe DRs JRand or Elmore, recognize this name!
-
DR JoseSPiano - I didn't try it. I decided on a Concrete for my first visit. Although the basil and tomato paired, as you suggested above, sounds very intriguing.
Well a Concrete is a good "excuse". Guess I'll have to head back down there later this week to give it a try. ;)
*Hmm... I guess I should check out what the featured flavor will be next Tuesday (well, any Tuesday this month). :)
-
DR elmore - Stop feeding the animal.
-
OH!
Blueberry Crumble!
Next Tuesday (or today for that matter).
...The Featured Frozen Custard Flavor at Shake Shack that is.
;)
-
Uh-oh...
We're currently stopped at Wilmington, Delaware (I think), while they check out a problem with the last car of the train...
-
Thanks, DR GINNY.....Mary Ellen Tanner was one of the best singers ever to come out of that no talent bunch on the 50-50 Club.
-
And, ok and behold, we're moving again! Whew!
-
Mary Tillotson - used to host a midday program called CNN & Co, which kept me sane and in touch with current events when I was a stay-at-home mom. My own personal version of "Keeping house and clutching a copy of Life."

Cute story from today's NY Times "Metropolitan Diary," for those who haven't seen it:
DEAR DIARY:
I often have my morning coffee and read my Times in a place called Le Pain Quotidien at Eighth Street and Fifth Avenue. There is a big community-type table down one side that I sit at because I can spread the paper out.
Today several people sat across from and beside me, and I became aware that the man, about 50, had a cockney accent. So I said, “You’re from the East End of London,” which was correct and brought a big smile and a fun conversation with him and his wife and the young friend of their son, about 30, who works here at Morgan Stanley.
We chatted for 15 minutes or so (the man had seen a film I had made when I lived in England, “Women in Love,” and asked lots of questions about it, particularly about the nude wrestling scene, which people who have seen it always do ask questions about) before a young woman sitting a few seats over to my left, about 30, came over and asked if she could request a favor of the man and woman:
“Would you read this scene for me? I’m auditioning on Monday and I have to get the accent right.” She, too, had heard their accent.
The scene was from “Sweeney Todd.” There was much good humor as the middle-aged couple read Todd and Mrs. Lovett, quite well, actually, particularly the woman (the man is an air-conditioning engineer at the Wellcome Institute in Cambridge, and they had seen the show and movie both), and then the young actress read it with him, also quite well, and was commended by the Brits.
Then she said: “Thank you. I owe you something.” And so she started singing to us, softly and very beautifully, the “Worst Pies in London” song, completely unself-consciously. It was all very moving.
Then I told them that I knew Stephen Sondheim and that I would tell him this story. Which I did. “What a charming story,” he said to me. “Send it to the Metropolitan Diary of The New York Times. You never get a chance to see your name in print, so it might be worth it.”
Larry Kramer

OK, time to take the ice pack off my foot and go out to do some errands.
Bye for now!
-
Hello, everyone.
A busy day here, no end of little odds and ends that need attention. I'm really trying to make a dent in my to-do list; there are things on it that I meant to do ages ago, but somehow did not. (How'd that happen??)
So no time to play the initials game--at least not right now.
-
I say: transfer ALL of your to-do's to Marvelous Matt. Then come and play with us! :D
-
However, I will mention that I watched THE LEGEND OF 1900 last night. An unusual story, to be sure, but interesting. Like THE RED VIOLIN, it was largely about the music, at least for me. And, like SINGDAW, I heard about it here at HHW and put it in my queue.
-
And the word of the day is: LOUCHE!
In the absence of both DRs ArnoldMBrockman and FJL, a modest suggestion for the SONG OF THE DAY:
"The Shady Dame from Seville," from Victor/Victoria.
-
I say: transfer ALL of your to-do's to Marvelous Matt. Then come and play with us! :D
How I wish I could! He's getting a rather tired of taking up my slack. We talked about that just yesterday. I'm trying to find someone to help me with some household and garden chores. A friend in the Midwest suggested I try some teenagers. Boy, was that a laugh! Teenagers in Washington don't do manual labor; they go to prep schools and expect to be CEO right out of college. I asked Matt about the kids who go to public school; he said they're hanging out at the malls. I shall keep trying, though.
-
TTFN.
-
OK, I caught your MT roll. Hey, I gotta sleep some time. I shoulda had Malachi Throne and Mark Tinker.
When I think of all the Malachis that went through my mind......
We're in widely different time zones. And it seems that the notes go up at varying times. And even when they do, at least on my computer the old notes are there while the new discussion board has opened.
Very confusing. And, occasionally it's even possible that some of us have other things to do. You can't expect everyone to keep your hours, or be a slave to the starting gun. Or maybe you can. But it's an advantage. One that I don't begrudge you. Just don't begrudge me rising with the Easterners
-
Just remember: No Wagering.
-
Give a sludge -
Don't begrudge!
-
No wagering. It's purely for individual glory.
-
Hmmm.. Nine pages so far by 1:47pm on a not-so-easy Initials Day. Not too bad.
;)
Now how about them Olympics? ;D
-
There's nothing wrong with doing more difficult initials.
JoseSPiano, you chose good.
-
Michelle Trachtenberg, actress (she was on this season's Gossip Girl, but most would probably know her from Buffy).
-
Cute story from today's NY Times "Metropolitan Diary," for those who haven't seen it:
That is cute. :)

Back from the long jog on the new new route. Very difficult last mile.
-
Only thought of one M.T. whilst running:
Marilyn Tenser, producer of The Pom Pom Girls, My Tutor, and other exploitation films - I believe that she and her husband Tony owned Crown International Pictures.
-
Have any of you worn bamboo clothing?
And risk being attack by a Giant Panda - no thanks!

-
Finally! This name has been in my head since I posted the initials, but I could NOT remember who it was or why I'd know the name. It JUST came to me -
Mike Talman - Richard Crenna's character in Wait Until Dark.
-
Mary Tilford - the bad girl who accuses the teaches of being - LESBIANS - in The Children's Hour.
-
Does Mr. Tibbs count? ???
-
I think his first name is Virgil, but the famous line is...
Call me Mister Tibbs!
-
What is it with "I will have the last word" people? I clearly am one.
Macbethitis?

Does Mr. Tibbs count? ???
If it does, then the Mister Tanner of the Harry Chapin song counts as well.

Quite a good list for very difficult initials - good job, and I'm sure there are a few others that will come to us.
-
For anyone who is interested, the entire run of M SQAUD is coming to DVD on Nov. 11th.
-
I love her, and she's been around a long time so I LOVE watching an old movie or TV show, and she shows up.
She's in my very favorite episode of MISS MARPLE (Joan Hickson version) ever: NEMESIS.
I love her, too, but she's a recent discovery for me.
-
Does Mr. Tibbs count? ???
Spoo! DR dB already had it, anyway...
-
Using that phrase still leaves a lot on the table... 8)
;D
Speaking of certain Murphys, where is DR CASON these days?
-
Yeah, where IS Mr. Murphy these days. Living at home in Prescott until his new apartment is ready when he starts UCLA.
-
If it does, then the Mister Tanner of the Harry Chapin song counts as well.
It counts anyhow... "Mr. Martin Tanner, baritone, of Dayton Ohio" (it took me five years to work up the courage to sing that song in public... Harry Chapin, Steve Sondheim, and Abie Rotenberg (Jewish composer) are the three people who have written songs that are too painful for me to sing aloud).

OH! Now that would make a great Topic of the Day!
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm home! :)
-
:)
And I have chocolate too! From Australia!!!!
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
:)
-
Why isn't DR Cason staying in Hollywood during the summer months knocking on the doors of every film and tv studio in town! This is what I would want to be knowing.
-
Okay, since M.T. seems to have been exhausted (we'll still come up with more, I'm sure), let's reverse it and do T.M.
I'll start - Thomas Mitchell.
-
Thom Mount - Universal exec for many years, and producer.
-
Thomas Milian - Eyetalian Spaghetti western star.
-
Thomas Monteleone - author.
-
Terry Moore.
-
Terrence Malick.

When I was recital-ing on a semi-regular basis, there were a few stand-bys that would get my tear ducts going while I was playing them. OH! And the vocal repertoire! Some of the French composer's "responses" to World War I are truly heart-breaking.
*However, I don't think I'll count the two times I broke down in the flute teacher's studio while accompanying the Mozart G Major and the Dutilleux "Sonatine". Those incidents fall under a totally different category. ;)
-
Terrence McNally.
-
Why isn't DR Cason staying in Hollywood during the summer months knocking on the doors of every film and tv studio in town! This is what I would want to be knowing.
Umm... Because he thought you lived in Hollywood. ;)

Hmm.. That almost does not make sense. Almost.

Terry Melcher - son of Marty and Doris.

-
Terrance Mann
-
Oy vey, how could I forget - well, easy, actually :) Tammy Minoff.
-
Congratulations to DR DakotaCelt on her recent Engagement!
I missed this. When did she announce it?
-
Toshiro Mifune.
-
I missed this. When did she announce it?
Well, I hope I didn't jump the gun by announcing it on here, but she did "mention" it on Facebook. :)
-
It was very warm this afternoon, and the sun is very bright so I'm guessing we get to the 88 they're predicted. (Only 82 yesterday). Ugh!
I know August is more than half over (no way!) but is it fall yet?
-
Tilly Masterson, sister of Jill Masterson, the golden girl of Goldfinger.
-
Oh. That's why I didn't see it.
-
Maybe we should both delete our posts so that she can make the announcement.
-
I saw Dakota's announcement on Facebook.
-
I spent most of the afternoon with THE KENNEDYs. Very interesting documentary on the Kennedy family through 1961. (Second disc will go to the present.) Joe Kenny Jr. would have been a dreamboat just like JFK, Jr. was. How sad they both died much too young.
-
Then I guess it is a moo point.
-
Deleting posts, that is.
-
There was a 6 minute bonus featurette on the first disc about how the press hid his medical conditions (he had many!)and his womanizing.
There was also a text-based bonus feature with pics of all the family you could click on and get a quick little text biography.
-
So, today I learned a new bug: mud dauber (and what the nest looks like).
-
I cued up the second disc in the set and saw it's not quite two hours long, so I should be able to get to that tonight with no trouble.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Luke and Noah were present along with a new man (beau?) for Lucinda. Or is he going to make a play for Noah? The whole set-up seemed way too contrived.
-
So, today I learned a new bug: mud dauber (and what the nest looks like).
We used to have those and my Mother was always beating them with brooms from theur location and my Dad would torch the nest.
-

Do we need to call the Game Warden?

Every unbelievable plot on that stupid soap is completely contrived!
-
I noticed that last night's MAD MEN is already up in the HD On Demand spot, so I may try to get to it tonight along with THE CLOSER (of course) this evening.
-
Taj Mahal - blues musician.
-
Every unbelievable plot on that stupid soap is completely contrived!
Come to think of it, he's probably simply going to embezzle the money.
Still contrived!

DR MattH - My roommate noticed that "Mad Men" was put on the On Demand slate last week right after it aired during it's regular time slot. I'm not sure if your cable system does the same thing, but...

GOOD $$ NEWS for DR elmore3003!
-
DR MattH - My roommate noticed that "Mad Men" was put on the On Demand slate last week right after it aired during it's regular time slot. I'm not sure if your cable system does the same thing, but...
I may look next Sunday to see if that happens here. The second week of this season, the episode didn't go up until the following week, and I ended up recording a later episode in SD and watching it before the HD version was posted. Week 3 worked out as this week has.
-
Yay!Two mysteries and a sparkling prize. I also received in today's mail the two checks I've been waiting for. Fantastic!
I'm sure that'a great relief, not just for the cold hard cash but for the peace of mind to not worry about getting stiffed. I'm happy for you!
-
In the mail today, Season 6 of THE SHIELD for review. It comes out next Tuesday as does SALO, but they're both on hold until I can finish THE PRESIDENTS.

Now, I'm heading back down to watch more of the Kennedys.

-
Yay!Two mysteries and a sparkling prize....
I also received a sparkling prize and 2 mysteries - well, actually 2 copies of one mystery.
BK, I really wanted 1 copy of each Adriana Hofstetter book. Please advise.
-
Do we need to call the Game Warden?
No. He's ok with it. It seems to be crawdads and mosquitofish that make him cringe.
-
Did you know that if you say "mosquitofish" to a roomful of game wardens, they will all cringe at the same time?
-
When one has no television, one amuses oneself in other ways.
-
GOOD $$ NEWS for DR elmore3003!
I'll buy everybody a drink!
-
Have any of you worn bamboo clothing? It's unbelievably soft.
I have lots of bamboo socks. They are soft but not as durable as regular cotton...
-
I'll buy everybody a drink!
Well, I don't have any dinner plans for tonight.... ;D

Back from my errands, which included a stop at our town's Vera Bradley dealer to work out a problem with a special order they'd placed for me. The result may prompt a total change in my "wardrobe strategy" for our trip to NYC next week.
The shop is really a home decor studio, selling many decorative items and furniture. Some of the furniture is on consignment and I may have found a replacement for my family room chair. Just waiting for Richard to come home from an errand and we're going back out to take another look at the chair and decide if it will coordinate with the couch (I'm taking a swatch of the couch fabric.)

for Simon Pegg fans:
DP Colin and I watched "Big Nothing" last night. It's an enjoyable comedy - certainly not up to the standard of "Spaced" or Hot Fuzz" but at 80 minutes it does not wear out its welcome.
-
Good to read that another DR has caught up with "The Legend of 1900"

Everyone's favorite little movie moppet, Tammy Marihugh.

I'm going to delete my comments about Mr Bryce; he's notified me that he'll be lurking.
What do you think Mr. Bryce is going to do to you? Here's a clew - nothing.
-
Back from errands and shall now eat lunch. In the really annoying department, I got a way overdue check today - made out incorrectly (to me instead of Kritzerland, which means it has to go into my account, clear, then go into Kritzerland) AND post-dated to the 20th even though it was written early last week via electronic banking. I'm actually really REALLY annoyed about it.
-
Oh, sure!
I didn't realize you meant tonight. But I can.
My evening's already tied up, but we can do dinner and iTunes later in the week!
-
I talked to Tekserve about the iTunes problem; they're going to have my Mac for at least 4 days, which pisses me off. A lot, given that the Mac is 10 months old and still under warranty.
So, I guess I'll buy a Lacie hard drive tomorrow, back up the damned thing, and in a few days take it to Tekserve and wait. Damn.

Painful for yourself, or for everyone else? For me, anything I sing creates pain. *sigh*
-
Thomas Mapfumo-amazing African musician
-
I didn't change the initials, I added to them, only because it seems we'd exhausted M.T. We can still add to those and I'd prefer we did, but reversing initials is part of the original concept of the game, although Rothman and I made the decision not to do so in our car games.
-
Ted Mann, owner of Mann Theaters.
-
Tommy Morrison----heavyweight white hope who contracted AIDS.
-
The other payment I'd been waiting for was going to be paypal-ed today - only somehow the person had reached their limit, paypal-wise, so now a check is being Fed-Exed. All very annoying.

I'll start - Thomas Mitchell.
HOLD ON A SECOND HERE!!!
Am I correct in reading this as: BK expects us to keep up two lists at the same time?
Without asking kindly first?
This explains why der B stopped posting and said "Let's go buy doggy biscuits" earlier!
Keeping two lists will be very awkward. What I've been doing is splitting the monitor space between a window for the Internet, and another window for the spreadsheet we use for the list. Dividing the screen into three spaces... nope, just doesn't work, makes the three spaces too small. The only other method means switching back and forth between two lists.
BK, switching games like this was thoughtless. I'll try to muddle through this time, but please don't do it again.
-
Tony Maserati-record producer

Whoops, forgive me, I didn't know we had to identify them now.
Actress.

Meanwhile, I am rendering fat.
No, seriously, I've got a pot of diced-up pork back and am rendering out the fat in a very slow oven.
It's step one so that I can make pork confit tomorrow.
Which will then make (hopefully) wonderful pork rillets.
Which will make me more trendy than anyone in LA.
(After the rendering, the leftover pork skin is supposed to make great cracklings. I have high hopes.)
-
Tommy McDonald---running back. Philadelphia Eagles. 1950's.
-
TO RENDER FAT, per Ruhlman and Polcyn, authors of Charcuterie:
Ingredients:
1 pound duck or goose skin and fat, scraps of pork fat, or suet
Combine the fat and 1/4 cup water in a heavy-bottomed saucean and set it over very low heat, uncovered, for several hours to render. The fat will liquify and the water will evaporate, leaving pure fat. Don't let the fat come to a boil or turn brown, or it will taste harsh.
Strain the fat through a sieve lined with cheesecloth. Let cool, thenstore covered in the refrigerator. The golden brown skin - cracklings - remaining in the cheesecloth can be saved to use as a flavoring for braised cabbage or sauteed potatoes.
Me, I find the best way to keep something cooking at a low temperature is to set it in the oven, at that temp. Which is what I'm doing now.
-
Tom McNeeley----fought floyd Patterson for the heavyweight title. Lasted 4 rounds.
-
Obviously, I'll be covering making the pork confit another day. Curing the pork with salt and herbage takes a couple of days.
-

So, Tom MacRae.

Another good CLOSER, and I caught a bit of the one from last week: Jennifer Coolidge, whom I love, has a new face!
Now I'm going to go read a mystery.

Good Evening!
Well, since I needed to forage for some dinner, and since I had been sitting on a train for six hours earlier today, I went ahead and headed out earlier to not only get some food, but to stretch my legs.
I eventually ended up down in Chelsea, then walked over to Union Square, then back up to Gramercy Park, then back over to Chelsea. It was/is a gorgeous night. Yes, the humidity did start to set in a bit, but it was a great night for a walk in a great city.
*And the Sweet Corn Frozen Custard at Shake Shack.... YUMMERS!!!! :)
-
A small affair
I guess most engagements begin this way.
Best wishes, dear Dakota. I'm very happy for you!
-
Another good CLOSER, and I caught a bit of the one from last week: Jennifer Coolidge, whom I love, has a new face!
Glad you liked it! I didn't get to see it since I'm still at work, trying to get ahead for next week. Not only do we have a holiday coming up but I am planning to go to Nashville for a concert one night. So I will probably have to work every night this week to keep up. Blah. But OT, so yay.
-
And while I was waiting for the A Train at Times Square, I happened to run into Baayork Lee! Yeah! During the ride uptown, she filled me in on all the closing night festivities of A Chorus Line, as well as her schedule over the next couple of months with the tour.
*DR elmore - She told me to be sure to.. "Say, Hi! to your friend who rode in the cab with.. Oh, you know.. The guy from the book shop... Oh.. Larry!" :)
**And I'm to call her next week to see about getting together too!

SWW, a big double thanks for the double lists!

SWW, a big double thanks for the double lists!

One of my lovely new mysteries has a lovely note which puzzles me: "For Susan, hope you like the Hoffstetter #2!" I haven't been contemplating a sex change and I've never felt like a Susan before. Jane hudson, maybe, but never Susan. I swear.
Can we just call you Sue, then?
-
I gotta tell you.

I ate the low-cal (45 cals each), low-fat (3 fat grams each) hot dogs - quite good and under 700 calories, all told. I had some licorice afterwards, about 200 calories worth. If I weren't being strong I would so go get a double ice cream cone at Baskin-Robbins just to take the bad taste of this screwed up day out of my mouth. I could eat another 200 calories without a problem, but a double ice cream cone would have about 700 and about 50 grams of fat - that I don't need. Although I WANT it. Bad.
-
A very good day of the Initials Game and the Reverse Initials Game.
-
Tony Musante---actor. I don't think he was mentioned. Hard to tell without a list.
I know that tone is always hard to read on here, but...
Remember, DR SWW volunteered to keep the list. He can very easily volunteer NOT to keep the list too.
*It also doesn't take too much effort to cut and paste your own list for your own reference as your read each post.
**And if it turns out a name has already been mentioned, there are more than enough DRs who will be more than happy to point out the redundancy. ;)

Tony Marshall...1950s actor, stuntman and, evidently, one time Herman Cohen boy-toy! 8)

Tommy Morrison----heavyweight white hope who contracted AIDS.
He contracted HIV. I had not read that it had developed into full blown AIDS. Is this true?

Spent a very tearful early evening watching THE KENNEDYS. All that death, all those funerals. To have them all concentrated on this disc was pretty overwhelming to relive.
-
Next I watched the first two hours of LBJ. I knew much less about his career prior to the Presidency than some of the others, so it was quite fascinating, especially all the ballot box stuffing that lost him an election and later won him his first Senate victory. I didn't quite get to the end of part II on the disc (there are four parts in all.)
-
Then, I watched THE CLOSER at 10 and sped through the commercials. Very dramatic show, and what a horrendous situation to be in! Honestly, I don't know what I would have done, and that makes it fine drama to leave such a question in the mind of the viewer.
And Fritz/Jon looked SPLENDIFFEROUS in that shower scene early in the episode! Ummmm!
-
Tomorrow I should be able to finish LBJ and go right into the NIXON set.
My gosh, after watching Oliver Stone's 3+ hour NIXON last week and then having two discs on him tomorrow to start wading through, I'm going to be SICK of Richard Nixon.
-
I will likely watch MAD MEN on HD tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch. Looking forward to this next episode.
-
No tone about my comment about needing another list. Rather a comment about changing horses in midstream without warning. And that a list has become commonplace. But no complaint about the listmakers. When inundated with about 30 unchallenged names and new initials, it's very difficult to try to compete, (and yes, that's what I'm doing with Bruce, not with anyone else. That's why we throw little asides to each other.) without a frame of reference. He probably should have compiled the list.
-
I'm closing with Toro Marino. The exploited South American prizefighter in "The Harder They Fall".
-
I'm heading downstairs now.
Good night!
-
Nice job with the lists SWW
-
Thank you Edi and everyone at HHW!
-
Congrats DakotaCelt!

Can we just call you Sue, then?
In your dreams, maybe, but not in mine.
-
thank you MBarnum

It will be next year... A small affair
Oh dear, I was hoping for something more permanent :D

In which case you missed the teaser for the new coming-soon TNT show Truth in Advertising starring Eric McCormack and Thomas Cavanagh and written by the Closer team.
