Posted on the technical board and unseen - from dear reader embolism - someone please respond there and here:

This is an awesome tutorial, thank you for posting it!  Unfortunately, though, I'm not finding the name of my icon in the list you've specified here.  I've uploaded directly form my computer, linked to an external url, looked for the icon under the name of the uploaded file, under the name of the external url jpg, and under my user name. And I've refreshed the page.  What am I doing wrong?  Short of scrolling through and viewing each individual icon till I stumble upon mine, is there anything you can recommend to help a girl out?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, here goes:

When you add a new avatar with the "I will upload my own picture" option, or link from an external URL (or if you pick an existing avatar from the list of photos next to the "Personalized Picture" radio button), you need to go to the bottom of that screen and click on the "Change profile" button.  Your new avatar will then show.

It seems that the list of photos next to the "Personalized Picture" radio button are all only from the previous version of the board.  No new avatar has been added to that big avatar list.

If you upload a new picture (and click the "Change profile" button), then upload another picture (or choose one from the big list), you can't get back to that actual first picture.  You can upload the same picture again (and again and again), but it'll actually be another copy of the same picture.

And finally, any newly uploaded or linked avatar is automatically resized to be up to 65 x 65 pixels only.  They can't be made larger...as far as anyone has been able to find out. :P

Hope this helps! ;D

Good morning, my first day in months with almost no under-the-deadline tax work.  There will be some for next week, a few May 15 deadline returns to get started, and some to whom we promised that we'd get to their work right after tax season.

Good morning, all! DR FJL, congrats on surviving another tax ordeal! My estimated taxes for the IRS cleared today so I know they got the payment; i'm still waiting for the NY State Tax check to land.

BK, Calvin Remsberg was the second Beadle Bamford; my late great friend Jack Eric Williams, who longed to play the lead in CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, was the first. Jack was a talented composer from Odessa, Texas, as I recall, and a wonderful guy. He died way too young. But so did aso many in the 1980s.

I had a follow-up appointment at 11:45 this morning for my colonoscopy and baout 15 minutes ago, the nurse called and canceled it. I'm now on for May 1 at 11:45. So, I think I may to go Lincoln Center today and continue my Babes In Toyland footnotes by dragging out all the scrapbooks.

Nope, mine are done. They were done on February 1st and both refunds are sitting in the bank, not stimulating the economy, although the bank is paying me interest and has probably loaned out the amount of my two refunds to other people so perhaps I am stimulating the economy in a roundabout way. My bank is not one with troubled or toxic assets, it's a small, stable bank with no danger of failing.

And just a reminder for any DRs who may be finishing up their taxes today...

Due to budget cuts, most post offices are not staying open late(r) tonight.  So, if you were planning an 11:59pm drop-off, you may need to re-plan your plans.

No, I mailed my taxes in last Friday, so that chore is done. I read that the tax bureaus are six to eight weeks behind in processing, so the refunds I'm supposed to get won't arrive until summer most likely. Most of the money will go toward paying my property taxes for 2009, but I do plan to use part of it on something fun (and electronic).

Peanut butter pie is good, but I much prefer peanut butter cake, preferably made by me. I haven't done one in awhile, and since I've taken a vacation from sugar (for the most part), I don't see one in the near future, but I do love peanut butter cake.

And I just got an email from my roommate, Jim.  Unfortunately, his brother and his wife, Danielle (Jim's sister-in-law), were involved in a very serious five-car accident last night that was caused by a hit-and-run driver.  Jim's brother is OK - understandably very shaken and emotional right now. However, Danielle is currently in very critical condition due to a fractured skull and brain contusions.  To add to the gravity of the situation, Danielle is also pregnant.  Somewhat miraculously, the baby is fine, but, of course, the condition of the soon-to-be-born is dependent on the health of the mother.  Thankfully, their five-year old son (Jim's nephew), was not in the car at the time of the accident, and he's being taken care of by his grandparents right now.  And before I share too much more information...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*And let's also hope that someone witnessed the accident - it happened at the end of rush hour, 6:15 pm - and that they catch the idiot who caused this tragic mess.
Looking at the results of IDOL voting at DialIdol, it's obvious voters don't want Lil to go yet (especially since she was bottom thre last week). But her rendition of "The Rose" was rocky from start to finish and overall poorly sung, not the kind of song that shows off Lil's voice at all. And talking back to Simon (though that got cut off on my DVR with the show running over again) usually puts someone in danger, but I guess the troops rallied to her defense last night.
I still think the finals will be between Danny and Adam, that is, if there's any justice. Previous years have taught us that there often ISN'T any justice (Elliott, Melinda, Daughtry, etc.)
From Jose:
Quote
DR Jane - When did you and Keith come in contact with the poison oak?  Did Sherlock get exposed too?
~~~~~NO-ITCH, NO TOUCHA-DA-FACE VIBES TO BOTH OF YOU~~~~~

Sherlock is fine.  Dogs get into the leaves, the oil rubs onto their coats, we touch the dogs....and you get the idea.  The dogs are only carrier's and thankfully don't suffer from this.  We could have gotten it from Sherlock, though this time we suspect it was from the dog we were petting Saturday night.

Keith's face isn't worse which is good because it looks bad enough.  My face looks a little better & it wasn't bad to begin with.  We both have more on our necks & my arms are worse, still compared to Keith & to other bouts I have had, I shouldn't complain.

Thanks for all the vibes DR's.

Glad to hear that the LACC event went well last night and that MR BK found some peanut butter pie.

Our rehearsal went well, too.  Tonight of course we block/choreograph the opening of the show - except for all of the people who can't be there because there is a High School Band Concert that NOT ONE OF THEM LISTED as a conflict on the audition sheet.

One obnoxious girl stood up Monday night and started waving her hand, when Vickie the director finally acknowledged her she started with a list of names and said "...we will all be gone on Wednesday night because of a band concert that we can't miss."

What do you say?  ANYWAY, I suggested last night that that girl be the back half of the donkey in the scene with Petruchio, and Vickie agreed.

I personally prefer his mellow side, although his rock side is still enjoyable. But i have noticed that it is his mellow songs that i listen to again and again, not the rock ones.

Oh and I did not enjoy only listening to 2 of the judges. If they want to do that just make sure simon is one of them each time. He is the only judge people really want to hear. So i can imagine  alot of viewers were upset. I know i was not happy.

re: the dialidol results

I'm not sure if the results have changed since you posted but if you look at them now the only person who is safe is danny gokey. Everyone else is too close to call. So even though lil is in the #3 spot and her numbers look a bit higher than the others, she could still easily be in the B3.

If they put you in yellow (which everybody is except danny) it means they really have no idea who the B3 are. So i would definitely not count on kris, matt and allison being B3 (those are the 3 lowest they have listed).  Although i have had enough of anoop and matt. So either of them can go and i'd be fine with it.

Jose-

When is Opening Night?

Well, we really sort of do have three opening nights:

1) Tonight's "Pay-What-You-Will Preview" - which, apparently, is always a sold out house - and a very appreciative one. It's our first audience.
2) Tomorrow night is the "Director's Circle" performance. Basically it's CSC's Donors night, complete with pre- and post-show receptions.
3) Friday night is considered the "official" opening night, I think, but there's no party or other festivities involved.

...And then we have a show Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, and then we're off until next Thursday night.  -Can you say Day Trip?  ;)

I did ask your question about auditions - Jason has an embargo on anyone singing any of his songs at any audition he's having - it's on the casting sheet.  Georgia does not like anyone to sing her songs - it makes her uncomfortable in an audition setting.  Jason's big "never want to hear this in an audition" song is Gesthemine.

And those patented HHW VIBES really do seem to be doing the trick!  I just got an update from Jim, and even though his sister-in-law is not "out of the woods" yet, her condition is improving.  She also seems to have a very good team of doctors watching over her, and they're making sure that everyone is being taken care of.

Thank You!

Sherlock is fine.  Dogs get into the leaves, the oil rubs onto their coats, we touch the dogs....and you get the idea.

Oh how I sympathize!

When I was about 7 a neighbor farmer did some land clearing by burning brush - that included poisen ivy. I was exposed to the smoke which contained a lot of the oils. The next day my body was one giant blister. My folks spent days and nights alternating between cold compresses and vats of calamine (I looked like a soggy Casper.) At one point the Dr. considered hospitalizing me so they could refurbish my fluids. My poor mother spent half her time doing laundry so I could have fresh bed linens - the rest of the time she spent reciting the "Don't scratch, You'll only make it worse" mantra. Mom was not happy camper when the school did not want to excuse my five day absence because a poisen ivy rash was not a significant excuse.

Well, look on the bright side - day spas charge for skin peels.

We could use some blue skies out here! In about 15 minutes I expect a phone call advising me to look out the window at the rain and inviting me to get up, get dressed, and put on my taxi cap.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*And let's also hope that someone witnessed the accident - it happened at the end of rush hour, 6:15 pm - and that they catch the idiot who caused this tragic mess.
My afternoon with John Vogel and Kim Criswell has been a lot of fun. I met Kim at 82nd and Broadway and we taxied to the Cole Porter Trust for an hour-long meeting with Roberta Staats. After that the three of us taxied back up to Artie's for lunch. Conductor Kevin Farrell, who looks a great deal like Damien Lewis, I've decided, joined us and I always enjoy visiting with him. He's a wonderful conductor and he always makes me laugh. He and his wife are expecting their first child and that's very exciting. Miss Kim, as always, makes me laugh a lot.
So, I'm home and tv has been tied up all afternoon with the investiture at St Patrick's for the new archbishop in charge of the New York diocese. Since I'm not Catholic, i really don't care much, but I am missing JUDGE JUDY because of it, dammit!
This should be of interest to a couple of DRs...
One of the latest posts on the Sondheim listserv posted a link to the podcasts on iTunes from "Creative Screenwriting Magazine".  From the listing, it looks like there are some very cool interviews and interviewees.
Just go to the iTunes store and search for "Creative Screenwriting Magazine" or the following link should take you there (if you already have iTunes)*:
*And if you don't have iTunes, remember, it is a free program, and there are a ton of free podcasts available for your listening and educational pleasure.  Just download it from apple.com.
I really need a nap.
I did not sleep well, tossing and turning all night. My throat was not feeling good. But it seems to have improved a lot today. Still itchy. But not much pain when i swallow. Right now almost none.
I was trying to decide this morning whether to go to the doctor. Or to try to make an appointment. IT is free, so that is not the issue. And it's close (although hard to get through on the phone). The only issue is that i've had sore throats before. And they rarely do anything. Except make you take a test for strepe throat (which does cost). And then they make you wait to a get the results.
I've never had strepe throat. And they normally do not give antibiotics for a sore throat. My mom thought it would probably pass from my throat to my nose and head. I think it is doing that.
And i've been doing all the other things the doctor probably would have said (gargling, drinking...).
Hopefully i will be able to sleep tonight.
But they had to edit the clip. So even though they showed a bit of her speech, simon's reaction, and parts of her singing ... I don't think it had the same reaction. I think you need to see it all for it to have the full impact.
DR MattH, i don't feel the same way about HEROES. It used to be must see tv. And now I just don't find it as good.
Unquestionably the first season was the best when it was all so new and unusual. They seem to have been floundering in recent seasons trying to find a way to work all of the heroes into a single story, and I think they should abandon that and take their strongest core members and work a story around them.
Either that or do three mini story arcs of 8 episodes each that feature two or three of them together working on a single adventure. I don't think there will ever be a time when all of them can be combined reasonably again into a single story.
That said, I think this "book" is better than the previous two though not quite up to book one (which was the entire first season).
I've never put much stock into reviews - I basically hate them whether yay or nay.  I've had my share of raves and my share of awful reviews.  Which do you believe?  The answer, for me, is none.  I don't think I've ever learned anything interesting from a review critical of my work because my bad reviews, for whatever reasons, tend to be very personal and vitriolic, something I've never understood.  It was nice when Nudie came out and we were getting these unabashed love letter reviews, but in the end they're a nice souvenir.  Of all of them, I particularly remember the Oregonian review, which was, I think, the first rave the film got - can't remember the reviewer's name, but I wrote him and thanked him.
Back from many errands and a busy morning.  Gave the theater where we're doing the Nudie reading their money, so that's one less thing to worry about.  Had a very good sandwich and small fries at Jerry's, where I proofed another forty pages of the new novel - down to the last forty pages or so now, the last four chapters.
And am now listening to the masterpiece that is Inside Daisy Clover.  It's not the addiction for me that Two For The Seesaw is, but I do love every minute of it.  The first CD is the score as heard in the film - I prefer the album order and sequence, which plays a little better as a listening experience, and happily CD 2 starts with the LP recreated, so whichever your preference is it's all here.  All the cues not used on the LP are, of course, in the movie sequence.  And they stuck in A Happy Song, which was not used in the film - not sure why it's in the film sequence, but it's a fun number, although very similar to The Circus Is A Wacky World.
Vixter, if it is your mom's gallbladder, I can understand what she might be going through.  I had attacks myself about ten years ago and they were incredibly distressing.  The strange thing was when the attack ended it was as though nothing had happened.  Eventually I elected to have it removed and I've been fine (gallbladder-wise) ever since.
I don't want to downplay what your mom is going through, but the attacks usually feel --and look-- a lot worse than what they really are.  It could have been brought on by your mom's diet of the past few weeks.
At this point the worse thing would be if they have to remove her gallbladder invasively instead of through a few small incisions and that would only be if the bladder was severely inflamed.  If this was your mom's first attack I don't think that's the case.
But I'm sending her vibes and prayers anyway.
Sometimes it's hard to know what to do. I do know that they mostly just give you a strepe test and then tell you to wait. If i thought they would have given me something i would have gone.
Right now it definitely feels a lot better. Hurts a bit. But not too much. And not too much when i swallow.
It's hard to believe that something that hurt that much could just go away by itself.
I am wondering if any one has been following the controversy over the commercial called The Gathering Storm from The National Organization Of Marriage.
The original commercial can still be seen on Youtube at least for the moment as they are getting Youtube to take them down. Below is the complete ad
And now I am off to rehearsal.
My question for ASK BK day - which review have you received for your SHOW BIZ work that was the most accurate and/or illuminating?
Did you ever receive a review that made you re-think how you did something?
I've never put much stock into reviews - I basically hate them whether yay or nay.  I've had my share of raves and my share of awful reviews.  Which do you believe?  The answer, for me, is none.  I don't think I've ever learned anything interesting from a review critical of my work because my bad reviews, for whatever reasons, tend to be very personal and vitriolic, something I've never understood.  It was nice when Nudie came out and we were getting these unabashed love letter reviews, but in the end they're a nice souvenir.  Of all of them, I particularly remember the Oregonian review, which was, I think, the first rave the film got - can't remember the reviewer's name, but I wrote him and thanked him.
Probably Ted Mahar, a super nice guy and, believe it or don't, a big Frances Farmer fan.  ;)
Oy.  Technology.  Years ago BK very kindly sent me to some guy in L.A. who worked for Image and had one of the first DVD recorders, long before they were de rigeur on home computers.  This guy transferred a bunch of very rare Farmer VHS stuff I had onto DVDs, but because he charged by the DVD (and was pretty expensive--it ran me hundreds and hundreds), I chose to get several titles burnt on each individual DVD.  I have spent the last hour or so trying to figure out how to extract one title (an archival print of TOO MANY PARENTS) to make copies for this Cal Tjader guy.  Lo and behold, I think I've finally figured it out, but it was *not* intuitive, let me just say that.  ;)
I have decided not to renew my Cabaret concert series. The only person of interest for me next year is Christina Andreas.
I was wondering what you planned to do.
I was disappointed this year's choices and with next year choices. The only really good show this year was Hal Linden and second was Christine Ebersole but I wasn't bowled over by her show.
Vixter, if it is your mom's gallbladder, I can understand what she might be going through.  I had attacks myself about ten years ago and they were incredibly distressing.  The strange thing was when the attack ended it was as though nothing had happened.  Eventually I elected to have it removed and I've been fine (gallbladder-wise) ever since.
I don't want to downplay what your mom is going through, but the attacks usually feel --and look-- a lot worse than what they really are.  It could have been brought on by your mom's diet of the past few weeks.
At this point the worse thing would be if they have to remove her gallbladder invasively instead of through a few small incisions and that would only be if the bladder was severely inflamed.  If this was your mom's first attack I don't think that's the case.
But I'm sending her vibes and prayers anyway.
It turns out they do have to remove it. She's having the surgery tommorrow...
I would just like to say I love you all. You're so supportive of me and Mom, and I really don't know what I'd do without you guys. I told Mom about how you were all sending her vibes, and she wants to thank you all. I also found out half an hour ago she's going to need to have surgery to have her gallbladder removed. The docters were supposed to do the surgery today, but they messed around, and she has to get it done tommorrow. She'll be there tonight, and for a while after that. I'll get to visit her tommorrow. I haven't gotten to see her since I left the house this morning. I miss her.
I hope you all have a good night. And thank you again for all your vibes and prayers.
                                                                                     Love,
A lot of these have been changed slightly and are being called parodies etc. So I guess it gets around the orginzations claim of copywright.
This one even identifies one of the actors and gives out his email (business and personal)  and phone number. He is a high school drama and Shakespeare teacher in Arizona. His name is Steve Abaroa
And I just got an email from my roommate, Jim.  Unfortunately, his brother and his wife, Danielle (Jim's sister-in-law), were involved in a very serious five-car accident last night that was caused by a hit-and-run driver.  Jim's brother is OK - understandably very shaken and emotional right now. However, Danielle is currently in very critical condition due to a fractured skull and brain contusions.  To add to the gravity of the situation, Danielle is also pregnant.  Somewhat miraculously, the baby is fine, but, of course, the condition of the soon-to-be-born is dependent on the health of the mother.  Thankfully, their five-year old son (Jim's nephew), was not in the car at the time of the accident, and he's being taken care of by his grandparents right now.  And before I share too much more information...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*And let's also hope that someone witnessed the accident - it happened at the end of rush hour, 6:15 pm - and that they catch the idiot who caused this tragic mess.

I send good vibes to themall. I hope the twerp is caught who caused the accident.

Tonight's "Pay What You Will" preview went very well.  It's amazing how much "better" this show is when you have an actual audience laughing out there - and they did laugh tonight! A lot!  -The laughter also added about five minutes to each act. -Which is a good thing.

Thanks for all the VIBES!

I am wondering if any one has been following the controversy over the commercial called The Gathering Storm from The National Organization Of Marriage.

The original commercial can still be seen on Youtube at least for the moment as they are getting Youtube to take them down. Below is the complete ad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AzLrn5JVIo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AzLrn5JVIo)

However there are several parodies and responses to these ads that are enlightening.

And I would like to share a few of my favorites

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBbHBD87KqQ  (I think this is most damning)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDbTPBIYiig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDbTPBIYiig)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1MGtULY73Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1MGtULY73Y)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Na83zbo4qY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Na83zbo4qY)

There are others that breakdown the statements with facts but I cannot find them at the moment.

Hmmm....

Notes are written and I'm still trying to decide on a trip out for a salad and proofing, but it seems less appealing as the minutes go by, especially as Jerry's gets absolutely no cell phone reception (or 3G reception) at all.

I do feel like I should eat a little something but have nothing at all in the house other than soup with chicken and rice which sounds nauseating to me right now.  I could go to Gelson's and get a little something to nosh on and maybe I just will.  Then again, maybe I just won't.  Then again, maybe I just will.

I just spent a hour in line at one of the only two post offices open till midnight in LA.  For mailing my taxes, I had to pay both state and federal, every penny from checking and savings and my paycheck tomarrow.

Not happy this year.  My fault  for not changing status to single/l early last year.

Yuck.

Must now read BK's note from the last 2 days.

Got some lobster salad and a chicken tender from Gelson's and satisfied my hunger even though my hunger hasn't satisfied me in ages.

DR Sam - Are the CA State taxes due at the same time the Federal one are?

I at least hope the lines at the post office provided some entertainment while you were waiting.

Well I did read the last 2 days notes.  Reading 3 days of posts with have to be tomarrow after work.
I'm sorry I missed commenting yesterday, my nickname during the late 60's/70's was "miss American pie",
I spent a lot of time in Laurel Canyon but was really sweet and innocent.  Compaired to everyone else that is.

April 16 will mark 15 years of wedded bliss for Betsy and me.  Though, to quote a funny line by a friend of ours, sometimes it seems like a lot more bliss than that.

Dear Jose. yes both are due today.

The line was maybe 2 miles per hour, for a mile or more.  Closer to the intersection of the post office, the protesters, news crews, police, etc., kept things moving along.

Goodnight everyone, my eyes will not focus.

Hope Thursday is a wonderful day for all.

I did not have the patience to watch all of the auditions ;D  How did those get on YouTube?

They're being taken down by the National Organization for Marriage, but individuals are downloading (http://keepvid.com/) them and re-uploading them. :)

I mean who got hold of the auditions tapes or are they fake?

I don't know if they're real or fake.  With all the comments, I got the impression that they were real.  They weren't funny like the spoofs.

And now, I'm off to the call-backs!  I'll have a report (if not a decision) when I get back.

Until later!

I forgot to wish DR George good luck.  Good luck George.

Thanks, DRs DAW and Jane for the call-back luck.  It went well, I guess.  Some were better than others, but I got the impression that most (hopefully me, too) would be cast.  I spoke with Heather (the assistant director) and she said that they had ideas for a smaller cast and a larger cast.  With the people that were there tonight, they can lean towards the larger cast. :)

Vixter, if it is your mom's gallbladder, I can understand what she might be going through.  I had attacks myself about ten years ago and they were incredibly distressing.  The strange thing was when the attack ended it was as though nothing had happened.  Eventually I elected to have it removed and I've been fine (gallbladder-wise) ever since.

I don't want to downplay what your mom is going through, but the attacks usually feel --and look-- a lot worse than what they really are.  It could have been brought on by your mom's diet of the past few weeks.

At this point the worse thing would be if they have to remove her gallbladder invasively instead of through a few small incisions and that would only be if the bladder was severely inflamed.  If this was your mom's first attack I don't think that's the case.

But I'm sending her vibes and prayers anyway.

It turns out they do have to remove it. She's having the surgery tommorrow...
