Good morning, all! I still understand nothing of this moronic brouhaha over the President's speech yesterday and i am still appalled by the idiots who precipitated all this uproar by terrorizing a moronic section of the populace into a fear of his talking to their children. Maybe for Christmas someone will take the braces off their brains.

I remember the good old days when children flocked to see or hear something their parents disapproved of. What is this world coming to?

So, BK, is the Mighty Vinny going to be at your side today? As I marked "booth copy" on scores last week I wondered that. I know he's been busy, but I cannot imagine a session without him. I hope you will give him my regards. Vinny is one of the best and I am very proud to know him and to have worked with him.

I am up very early since I will have to fight a lot of schoolkids riding free and their horrid mothers, who are not, for a seat on the bus to the East Side. Yep, another day with the McGlinnventory. I think when I finish there, I will take the 50th Street crosstown bus and see what's going on at the FINIAN'S RAINBOW rehearsal.

Looking forward to the events on the album today!

I have the hardest time watching HARD DAY'S NIGHT and HELP, two of my favorite movies, because I now weep through them; I still remember the day John Lennon was shot too clearly.

Alas, when I got to my apartment this morning, I noticed that there were a couple of TV vans a few doors down (well, up) the street.  Apparently, the latest attack by a serial rapist took place last night early Labor Day Monday morning, and this time he entered his victim's apartment via her fire escape. -And that also explained why a "Wanted" poster was taped to the front of our building.  Truly a little too close to home.

My retired cop neighbor on the fifth floor who always smelled s bad that he stank up the elevator died recently and yesterday the crew was in dismantling his apartment. Every carton that came down smelled as bad as their former owner. It looks as if everything in the apartment was pitched yesterday. I wonder if he had no family who wanted anything or if it were all stuff no one wanted because it all smelled so bad?

Geri, the McGlinn paralegal, just emailed me that her train is running late, so I have a few extra minutes here. I had meant to mention yesterday that I caught THE GUIDING LIGHT yesterday and thought that Ron Raines' scenes at the cemetary were really moving and quite wonderful. I was very proud of him.

This morning, DH Jayson and I went out to breakfast before he headed into NYC for his job.  Today marks the 19th anniversary of our union ceremony.  But we've been together 22 years.

That was the extent of our celebration, since between work and various rehearsals, we won't see each other again until about 10:45 PM this evening.  At which time we'll both be dead to the world.

Today's work project (unless the Paramount TV box sets arrive which I'm starting to doubt will actually come) will be the next in the martial arts series I received yesterday: IRON MONKEY. I have never seen ANY of these movies, so they're all a discovery. I wish I were more of a fan though I can certainly appreciate the athleticism of the stunts and fighting and the eye of the director as he stages these fights amid often dazzling backdrops.

This morning I did have time to watch another LEVERAGE episode. THis one involved the team trying to get an orphan out of Serbia. Fun episode.

I was having some trouble getting my Samsung Blu-ray player to work so I used the PS3 to watch the disc upconverted.

After I finished the episode, I started fiddling with the Samsung player thinking it might be kaput. Nope, the HDMI cable had worked its way slightly out of its slot so the connection wasn't being made. Glad that's all it was.

I believe bk has discussed this in his Notes and Posts.  It's not an exact science, but it's based on the original artwork and which score he thinks will be the "draw".

The LA Times recently featured "Glee" in one of their Backlot Visit (http://photos.latimes.com/backlot/gallery/glee) photo galleries.

*A friend of mine was able to attend some of the special network previews at the Paley Center the other night.  He got a sneak peek at the season premiere of "Glee", and loved every minute of it - as did the rest of the people in the audience.

No, Vinnie won't be with us today - as noted, he is "the" go to guy for Pro Tools movie sessions and he's really busy, and, for this project, would have been too expensive.  We're using someone who's assisted Vinnie a lot, and he did the last session I did (the radio spot for Ain't Misbehavin') and did a great and professional job.  He knows the Vinnie vibe, the sound, the reverb I like, all of it, and he's expert at Pro Tools, so hopefully everything will be smooth.

As Jose said, it's not an exact science for choosing which album cover goes on the front of the booklets for the two-fer CDs.  Usually I go with the score that leads off the CD, but, for example, in the case of Gaily/Minsky's I went with the better and more fun cover.  But the reason we do both, one front, one back, is so that people can flip them if they like the other cover better.

Well, it was a good wish. If I'd left when I planned to, there would have been no problem, but because Geri wrote her train was running late, I got involved with something else for a bit and then left later than I should have. The crosstown bus was fine but the downtown Lexington Avenue bus got caught up in major traffic - you could hear the dispatcher on his radio giving the buses different routes - and we weremoving at the rate of a block ever 10-15 minutes. At 68th Street I got off, called Geri's phone and told her I was now impossible to deal with for several hours and that I was heading home. I got back to the West side around 11:00, only 2 hours and 15 minutes after I left it. Oy!

Here at the studio - already had our first problem - Grant called and has a dead battery - he's waiting for the auto club, so he'll undoubtedly be late and we'll start without him and he'll have to overdub whatever he misses, which means we'll probably be here later than we would have.

Jane, I'm sorry, I simply can't remember the name.  I don't think it was ISLAND AT WAR.  Unfortunately I no longer have access to DVD Talk's database so can't look it up.  I'll try to remember.  I do remember it had someone fairly well known in it, and as soon as I remember who that is, I can look up their credits on IMDb and hopefully recreate it from that.  I do remember that one of the main characters was the doctor of the island, whose daughter was part of the resistance.  The doctor was forced to become part of the liaison group between the Islanders and the Nazis.

I thought maybe you were referring to Rutger Hauer, however, when I double checked the film was FATHERLAND

Thank you, DR Dakotacelt! I am doing much better. My leg and back seem to be okay and the only residual problem is my left shoulder from the crutches; I hope it's a bit of stress and not a rotator cuff problem or a torn muscle. The only lousy thing in my life at the moment is the chaos and clutter in my apartment which has me disorganized, fraught, and unable to find anything. I actually could use some vibes for George, my carpenter; the sooner his eyes are better, the sooner this bookcase madness will be resolved.

Then, I watched my work project for the day - IRON MONKEY. Unlike HERO from yesterday, this Hong Kong kung fu movie had no pretentions to anything mythic or artsy. It was a fun comic adventure tale much in the spirit of a Chinese Batman or Robin Hood movie. In fact, in the bonus features, the "Iron Monkey" was referred to as the CHinese Zorro. All of these are appropriate analogies.

There were only two bonus features: brief interviews with Quentin Tarantino (9 minutes) and one of the film's stars Donnie Yen (6 minutes).

So, I was finished with a great deal of time to spare.

I am really looking forward to finding out what songs will be on Brent's Holiday Album!

A friend of mine just sent me a collcetion of "supposedly true" clippings from very newspapers.  This was my favorite (don't ask me why).

We wrapped the main part of the session at five, Grant did his two overdubs, and now we're doing the five cello overdubs.  We should be out by six-thirty, but I think I'm too tired to attend the opera this evening.

Keith is going through his mother’s photo album and finding wonderful photos for his ancestry site.  He also came across a photo and asked if I knew who it was, response Me.  Funny he had to ask.  The first thing noticeable in the photo are the extremely oversized glasses I’m wearing.  The photo looks like it is of a 16 year old & the glasses, hair & top don’t fit the time period of when I was 16..  Looking closer I noticed the top was from when I was pregnant with Bryan, no wonder my hair was long, wavy & brunette instead of blond.  On closer inspection (the date on the photo) I was pregnant with Craig. :o  I was 30 in the photo.

Good Evening!

For any DRs who happen to be in the NYC area, I highly recommend the about-to-be-open-to-the-public exhibition at MoMA, "Monet's Water Lilies" (http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/963).  It's a mini-exhibition: one big room, four walls, six canvasses (two large paintings and four smaller paintings), and a big comfy couch in the middle of the room.  I'm glad I stumbled upon it today. Since it was the first Member Preview day, there was no real crowd which made it very easy to take the whole exhibition in in its 360 glory.

DR elmore - Since you have an "older" system - and Tiger - it's usually "safest" to not do anything else while the file is downloading.  Start the download before you go to bed.

Additionally, if your internet connection tends to "stutter", then that can cause download issues with iTunes, but iTunes should correct that stuttering if you let it continue to download.

I didn't feel as strongly for the second episode of GLEE as I did for the pilot. Perhaps that's partly due to the two rap songs in the episode. Still, I know they're trying to hit all musical styles, and I have to just accept it. The plot with the wife is pretty distasteful; she's SO not worthy of this wonderful, caring man, and one hates seeing him being duped week after week.

Back from the session, which would have ended a half-hour earlier had our darling dearest elmore not written the cello part from HELL for It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, going from pizzicato to arco with nary a second for changing, and runs more difficult than my long jog.  Stefanie got through it, though, but it took quite some time.

I was commissioned to write a String Quartet with Guitar for a play by former Papp playwright David Kranes when I was in college.  I had just been listening to the Bartok quartets and was of course wanting to show off my newfound knowledge.  I can't remember anymore what specific Bartok effect I wanted one of the violinists to do, but it required both hands and the conductor very sweetly came up to me and asked me how the violinist would also be holding the bow for the arco note that immediately followed it.  I think I might have changed the score.  :)

I honestly can't remember, Jose.  I think it might have been something where one hand slid along the neck while the other one rubbed the strings at the bridge, but it was a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away and I have no clew where the score might be to see if it could shed some light on it.  :)

DR elmore - Possible Travel Alert: The Walter Cronkite Memorial takes place this morning at Lincoln Center.  President Obama is scheduled to arrive at 9:20am.  The memorial starts at 10:30am, and President Obama leaves at 1:25pm.

Hoepfully, my itenerary will not be affected, but thanks for the update!

Oy!

OY!  -But at least you knew you would be "impossible to deal with for several hours".  ;)

Well, since I'm heading out of town (again) Friday morning, shall I bring a slice over tomorrow?Otherwise, I may be bringing it with me on the plane. ;)

Oh...

So...

Any thought on Ellen Degeneres replacing Paula Abdul on "American Idol"?

That's thinking outside of the box. ;)

Then I watched GLEE as I've already noted. Good show, Jane Lynch is hilarious, and I know we're going to get to know the six core kids in the club so much better in the upcoming weeks.

Matthew Morrison and five of the kids were on "The Bonnie Hunt Show" today.  Did anyone else watch this?  It was fun and they were all engaging.

Strange show tonight - first off the Rev. Dr Harper set his chair down on Abby's foot during the places blackout.....so she promptly began the show on Page Two.

Then Mortimer and Elaine began having trouble with their lines.

In Act Three - I couldn't get the curtain cord pulled down, I had to stand on the window seat, giving me just a few seconds to loop the rope and tie up Mortimer.  THEN when I struck the match to light the candles during the murder scene, the match broke and landed on the floor, still burning.  I kept talking, stomped it out....and lit another one.

Tomorrow we have only 6 tickets left....same for Friday and Saturday.  So we are a success....money wise.

Jane congrats on 25,000 posts!

Of course I didn't get to see GLEE, but I am sure it will be rerun within the next six weeks because it is so special.

I just watched tonight's episode of "Glee."  I really enjoy this show and definitely will buy the DVDs when they come out. :D
