Well, you've read the notes, the notes have weaved, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently seeing the weavers from Flanders and getting some Worsted suits.
-
And the word of the day is: NIHILARIAN!

Note:
The Weavers were NOT from Flanders, they were from Greenwich Village, NY

5 a.m. and I cannot sleep; I'm frustrated by the possibility the inept conductor of the Sept 1 orchestra reading is being kept on the project, and the refusal to replace him is getting to me. i've read through the complete score of PEER GYNT, the incidental music for the play and not the two suites from it, as well as the critical notes, and i'm ready to tackle the inventory of the Victor Herbert Collection at the Library of Congress.
This cold continues to drive me mad as well, and while I wish I'd taken some Nyquil, I don't like the drugged effect I have when I wake. Damn!
-
Hey, Larry,
Thanks for the offer but Anthony will accompany me downtown and then home after the procedure.
-
And the word of the day is: NIHILARIAN!
And The Song Of The Day Is: LAZY BONES
( Let's Celebrate on November 18th What would have been Johnny Mercer's 100th Birthday)

No, but I think the Flanders did come from Weavers.

Procedure vibes to DR. Ben.

Good Morning and Good Luck on Your Procedure... Healthy Marimbas all around.

~~~PROCEDURE VIBES~~~
FOR DR BEN!!!!!!
-
bk, today's notes were especially outré and entertaining. :D
-
Aha! And DR ELMORE you know what Rita said.....when asked how to solve the staging problems in producing PEER GYNT she said: "Do it on the radio!"
-
It was nice to read about the tinkers and the weavers and have that little bit of history in case I ever go on Jeopardy or Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.
-
Very happy that gay marriage passed in Washington state, but sad that it did not in Maine.
-
My question for ASK BK day......who do you think was the best designer of (then) contemporary clothes for film.....the one who most captured the spirit of the times while still managing to be forward and innovative.
-
Thanks, DERBRUCER, for answering my question on RAGTIME yesterday.
It's one of my favorite shows.
-
My Screen Is Big.
That is the title of today's entry in my diary.
-
Now I must restart my computer after updates.....and go to Goodwill and hope that the great print is still there since Monday, I can afford it at 30% off!
-
My Screen Is Big.
;D
Is it bigger than a breadbox?
NIHILARIAN
The Nihilists weren't that hilarious... ;)
-
I agree. We need a current photo of Sugar. :)
Good Morning!
Another cool, crisp November morning with not a cloud in the sky. Just heavly. If only our weather could stayt like this forever!
-
I'll be working on ZORRO the rest of the afternoon, but as I'm going to the theater tonight to see THE WOMAN IN BLACK, I won't be able to come anywhere near to finishing what I need to watch to write up the two sets.
-
Yes, DR JRand, I'm expecting Annette to show up at some point. Henry Calvin sang in one of the episodes last night and showed his musical theater chops beautifully. He actually had a very nice voice. Probably need to go back to KISMET and listen to him more.
-
I still haven't gotten around to MAD MEN from Sunday, and I also have last night's NCIS: LOS ANGELES to watch.
And, of course, KJathy Griffin's stand up special last night which I likely won't get to until I finish up with ZORRO.
-
Just a reminder that GLEE is not on tonight due to the World Series, but MODERN FAMILY has a new episode at 9.
-
* * * * * VIBES TO DR BEN THAT EVERYTHING THAT GOES IN OKAY COMES OUT OKAY * * * * *
Question for Ask BK Day:
Which album that you've produced has sold the most copies?
Do you typically keep up with sales figures for all of your releases, both old and new?
-
Very disappointed that the majority of my fellow New Jerseyians decided to reject the first fiscally responsible governor who held the office in over twenty years for a fat guy without a clue.
-
Good morning. Ginny, Charlie, and Michael are all at the vet. It is very quiet, except that Wally and George are demanding more food.
-
Vibes for DR Ben. ~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing like a music teacher/vocal coach without a sore throat and almost no voice. Today will be spent on the couch curled up with my favorite pups and keeping my throat hydrated and trying not to speak. Other than that, I feel great, seriously.
-
Good morning, all! After I posted around 5 this morning, I finally did get some sleep, and now I'm moving tentatively about the apartment. I think I will go into midtown around 12:30 and frop off the opening night(!!) gift for Tripp, the stage manager. I was going to give it to him on Saturday and by then I didn't feel like going out. I couldn't give the gift to him on opening night because a crucial element (double CD cases) was tardy in arriving in the mail. After that, I will visit a bit with friends in the show and head back home.
BK, did my check arrive yet?
-
Hope your sore throat goes away and your voice comes back quickly, DR Matthew.
-
Heading down now to continue with ZORRO and, for a break, maybe MAD MEN.
Well - my lovely 24" x 30" framed print of John Douglas Cline's STONE MEMORIES (retail $100) was still at the lovely Goodwill store - it was marked $29.99 and with 30% off + tax, it was mine for a little over $22.
The Weavers' DOG was from Flanders (obscure book-film reference there--who knows who played the kid in the 1960 version? No fairs Googlin').
-
Great flow chart, DR DAW! I've sent it to my DH (Anglican clergy) and my DS (philosophy major) and will let you know how they react.
Hilarious, DAW. And also, in the case of Mormonism, completely and irrefutably true. ;)
Good Morning!
Hi, DR Miss Karen!!! As for Levain... :)
Oh, Missy Karen. It is always a delight to see you.
As for my delight over your gratuitous one-liners, let me just suggest -- sweetly, of course -- that it tickles you to delight me.
-
Thanks DR KAREN. A fellow actor gave me that advice years ago, so naturally every time he does a show I send him this note on opening night.
Does anyone here have any connections at Brooklyn Academy of Music who might be willing to help a couple of my friends attend a special event? Please PM for details.
My question for ASK BK day......who do you think was the best designer of (then) contemporary clothes for film.....the one who most captured the spirit of the times while still managing to be forward and innovative.
The only costume designer I was ever aware of back in the day was Edith Head and I always loved her stylish clothes. Also came to know Donfeld and liked him very much.
Question for Ask BK Day:
Which album that you've produced has sold the most copies?
Do you typically keep up with sales figures for all of your releases, both old and new?
My best seller by far was Titanic: The Ultimate Collection - the right album at the right time and one I had to stomp my feet and scream at the owner of Varese to do, because he was dragging his feet on it - I finally marched into his office and said, "I'm doing it - you'll thank me later." In fact, I'd already hired the orchestrator and booked the recording date. That CD spent 48 weeks on the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart (debuting at number two), sold over 100,000 copies and was their best-selling album for many years. Postscript: He never thanked me, which, given the money he made (I had no royalties - just my yearly salary), is pretty, well, not pretty at all, but typical of that gentleman.
-
Oh, and I'm up. The oafs were back this morning - doing what I have no idea.
-
Titanic: The Ultimate Collection was one of the first BK CD's I ever bought....that and the Ronald Stein CD AND the Superman Television series music CD!
Yes I bid on one of them. But they are only 4x5's! I think Rod Williams bid on the other two.
Postscript: He never thanked me
Why are there so many sh*%ty people in this dear world of ours? Humanity never ceases to disappoint me. :(
Titanic: The Ultimate Collection was one of the first BK CD's I ever bought....
And just think...without that purchase, it might not have sold 100,000+ copies!
My hotel is right across the street from the Canadian Opera Company. Tonight's performance of Stravinsky's The Nightingale is SOLD OUT, alas.
I spent a most delightful morning at The Art Gallery of Ontario. A truly staggering collection, and housed in a building that is itself art. A few photos to follow when I get home. Some really, really interesting modern pieces, as well as Rubens and a wonderful special exhibit of Calder's wire art from Paris in the 1920's.
-
Good Afternoon!
...And I guess I just took a nap...
-
I am having a lovely time. My poor DH, in the meantime, is working at the convention from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM each day. I told him he'd darn well better take "comp" vacation time when he gets home!
Later this afternoon I will go over and visit him, bearing hot chocolate and peanut butter cookies.
-
So...
Around 7:30 last night, a friend of mine called me up to tell me that he had just landed a nice, new, lucrative job. -And since that was the third or fourth piece of really good news he had received over the past two weeks, he decided to celebrate by taking some of his friends out for dinner and drinks. And drinks.
:)
-
Did you drink, DR JoseSPiano?? ;D
-
And then...
As we were leaving the bar, we noticed a man who was lying face down on the sidewalk. We were trying to figure out if he was homeless, but then we realized that he wasn't: new shoes, casually well-dressed, etc. Some other people were wandering by, and just kept walking - so that was also making us thing that he might possibly be a regular. Well, since the temp really took a dip last night - and this was around 2:00am already - we went over to him to try to wake him up. We couldn't tell if he was drunk, stoned or had even possible been mugged and left for dead, but we could tell that something was off.
I realized that he still had his wallet on him, so I took it out and checked his IDs - and also to see if he had any sort of medical card on him. -Maybe he was diabetic? had epilepsy? From what I could tell, he lived in Virginia and he worked for one of the airlines. I guess he's a pilot. He did start to stir every now and then, and tried to say something, but it was all unintelligible. He started to "point" to his front pocket, so I reached in and found his iPhone. I checked his recent call log, and did call the last person he had called - which had just occurred an hour and a half before - but I got an answering machine. Then he kept "pointing"... "Are you OK, Stephen?" Then he grabbed my hand. -That was the "pointing".
By that time, my friend had called 911, and a few minutes later a firetruck pulled up, along with a cruiser and finally an ambulance. The police asked us if we knew him - we didn't - and they just said he was "taking a nap" - and that they would take care of him from there. I tried to leave my card for "him", but I didn't have one on me. So... We hailed a cab and headed back uptown. At least, as the cab pulled away, the cops had him on his feet and were helping him into the ambulance.
-
I guess he's a pilot.
Well I hope he doesn't drink and drive!
You and your friends were sure nice to try to help him out.
-
Did you drink, DR JoseSPiano?? ;D
Actually, I only had one beer with dinner, and then a rum and Coke at the bar. I have a relatively low tolerance at times, and "this" is one of those times. Additionally, alcohol tends to make me sleepy - I get very yawn-y. Besides, I get a kick out of watching everyone else who has a higher tolerance than I do. ;) -Oh, and there was karaoke last night too. I did not sing. But I sure did listen to a whole slew of people who did, or at least tried to. ::)
-
I guess he's a pilot.
Well I hope he doesn't drink and drive!
You and your friends were sure nice to try to help him out.
Thanks, DR DAW. -And since I remembered his name and where he lived, I was able to track down his home phone number via Google. I just left a follow-up message of sorts for him. Hopefully, that was (also) the right thing to do.
-
The Oregonian reports that Portland will have two (count 'em) cannabis cafes for those with medical marijuana prescriptions. One of them is already open, and the other will open within a day or two.
-
Did you drink, DR JoseSPiano?? ;D
Oh... But others in attendance most certainly did. Just sayin'.
-
Good morning. Ginny, Charlie, and Michael are all at the vet. It is very quiet, except that Wally and George are demanding more food.
Yum! Do you eat dinner together? The few times I joined Keith on work trips he was able to spend most evenings with me, or I was permitted to tag along to a nice dinner. Usually he left me at home while he traveled.
I'm just hoping I didn't get him into some sort of trouble. As the cab was pulling away, I realized that we should have probably checked his other pockets to see if he had a hotel key on him. ??? -And I'm really hoping I didn't freak out his friend who I called at 2:00 in the morning.
Don't worry about it, DR Jose. You did the right thing. Anyone lying on the sidewalk at 2 am needs elp.
Yes DR JOSE - you did the right thing. If your group hadn't stopped to help him, he wouldn't still have his wallet.
DR DAW - I think the Hockey Hall of Fame is in Toronto as well.
Donfeld did some nice clothes for the ladies in RETURN TO PEYTON PLACE!
Someone forgot to spellcheck the segment titles on the Hitchcock documentary on the new NORTH BY NORTHWEST BD.
Good vibes to DR Ben for The Procedure. Having experienced that this year I can say that the worst is behind you! :-)
Thank you! Hadn't occurred to me at all until you just mentioned it.
I love Toronto; what a wonderful city. Have fun, DR Singdaw! Check out Casa Loma!
Check out Casa Loma!
Definitely worth a visit! We were there on our last visit to Toronto.
-
I think the Hockey Hall of Fame is in Toronto as well.
It definitely is; went by it on the bus yesterday!
-
I am getting together with a few people who lived thru the Mercer debacle to watch the show tonight. It has been through so many changes since i left that it will be interesting to see the end result.
The original producers are cooking dinner. Can't help but think how great a film it would have been if they had been allowed to produce it. Some heavy drinking may ensue.
-
Do you eat dinner together?
Last night we did. Tonight it will be more difficult since the convention and the exhibits have opened, but I guess he'll have to have a dinner break at some point!
-
DR Edisaurus - my condolences to you and to all of your former colleagues... :(
Don't worry about it, DR Jose. You did the right thing. Anyone lying on the sidewalk at 2 am needs elp.
DITTO! DR Elmo's correct -- anyone lying face down on a city sidewalk am (or pm) is a red flag and I would only hope that should I or a friend or a family member ever suffer the same fate, that a Jose-hearted person would be around to care enough to check the situation out. You most definitely did it by the book, Jose, and should feel good that you did the right thing.
-
Yes I am planning to watch the Mercer Documentary this evening......
-
Mercer, Mercer me,
Things ain't wot they need to be
-
Yes DR JOSE - you did the right thing. If your group hadn't stopped to help him, he wouldn't still have his wallet.
Or possibly his life -- had no one checked on him or the wrong people had found him vulnerable ... there are any number of major or minor medical reasons that could have made him drop (even a simple faint could lead to a head injury on a sidewalk) and even a drunk shouldn't be held in contempt and ignored (which sounds like what some of the folks just walking by may have been thinking) -- many stories out there about folks that have died from alcohol poisoning because folks just left them to "sleep" it off. If it is medically-related or alcohol-related, maybe it's a good thing his friend or family literally got the wake-up call, Jose. Awareness is a first step to prevention, so maybe they can try to help make sure he doesn't end up in the same situation again.
-
Had a good time watching a bunch of ZORRO episodes this afternoon. Mary Wickes even turned up in some.
The quality of the video really is surprisingly good. Apart from a couple of minor problems, they look really wonderful, very sharp and clear.
-
Mary Wickes was in the ANNETTE serial as well.
-
I have been feeling a little off for the past 2 days. No real symptoms except feeling really tired.
I drove by the closest H1N1 clinic today since they are supposed to open tomorrow. The hotline did not have the proper info and my sis wanted to go tomorrow.
Apparently they only open at noon and are probably giving out the coupons (with numbers and times on them) at 11am. But we are wondering since it is the first day for non-health workers, if people will get there really early. Or maybe they won't even know it was open (it was supposed to open on friday).
My sis, niece and brother-in-law are eligible for the first group since my othe niece is under 6 months.
The guy had no idea when i'd be eligible. So he had me speak to a supervisor. She said most likely i would only be eligible in the last group (dec 7th). But that things change, so i should keep checking.
-
I also looked at all the bonus features on disc six in the set. There was a (too brief) documentary on the history of the character and the making of the series. Also about why, when it was garnering 40% of the audience in its time slot it got canceled.
There were two of the hour long ZORRO episodes that were shown on WALT DISNEY PRESENTS. (Really just four half hour episodes put together).
And there was Disney's 3-minute introduction of the series to audiences on his weekly show (where he played the theme song for the first time and had a nice little introduction to the incredibly dashng Guy Williams playing the part.)
-
While I ate lunch I watched last night's NCIS: LA. It's really not a mystery but more of a crime drama series.
-
DR Jose - I agree that you did the right thing and hope you eventually hear "the rest of the story."
-
DR JMK - can you "edit" typos in your reviews once they have been posted?
Well, yes, if I ever made any typos. ;D
Ummm....where did I make a typo?
-
DRs Ginny, Miss Karen, JRand, Elmore, Jane, and DAW - Thank You. -And I do hope I hear from him sometime to hear the rest of the story.
-
Well... Since I've spent most of today in a lack-of-sleep-induced haze... I think it's time for me to get out of the apartment for a bit.
Laters...
There was a guy outside the Spook Show lying in a doorway face down. Since it was Halloween, I was expecting him to jump up and scare theh beejeepers out of passers-by. But he was still there when we got out. Guess I'm not as nice as DR Jose!
-
I normally don't do forwards, but a friend sent one to me that made me laugh, and I thought many of you HHWayers might enjoy it too -- but since I don't know how to get it transferred over to this here site, here goes (it's a bit long, so I'll do it by sections) ...
-
I am going to the theater tonight to see THE WOMAN IN BLACK so I need to head downstairs now to get cleaned up. Then, I need to write some on my ZORRO review.
I've been going through the second proof of MOST HAPPY FELLA, Act One. Ben Salisbury's music prep is really beautiful. I just sent him a note to tell him. I'm sure he thinks I've been a strident bitch over the whole thing, which is true, but I have to say it's produced some elegant and beautiful work from him. I'm at "Spozalizio" now and i want to finish this tonight so I can type up my notes tomorrow.
-
And don't send me letters -- it's done in humor, not as a political statement (the world needs to not take itself so seriously)
-
Greetings my friends.
I have survived. Considering the procedure and everything that goes with it, the whole thing went very well. I just wish all medical procedures could be as pleasant (that may not be the right word) and free of mishugas (sp) as this one.
I went to a floor on an old (probably from the 20s or 30s) building on lower Broadway (waaaaaaay downtown) and after walking past the building because the address is not prominent everything else went fine. From the people at the reception desk to the doers of the procedure, all were friendly and informative and very concerned that I understood what was happening. I went in for the actual oscopy around 11:30am and came out to meet Anthony at 1pm. I would have been out sooner but apparently the propofol (seriously, it says that on my chart) they used to knock me out did the job big time and I didn't wake up as soon as they thought I would. They didn't "wake me up" but they told me after I was lucid, and they told Anthony that I was under quite a while. Between the drug and the fact that I didn't sleep well the past two nights (from HUNGER) I'm not surpised that I stayed under a bit longer than usual. Everything checked out OK though there were a couple of polyps (Nothing out of the ordinary and benign. I had a couple 4 years ago also) and I have mild diverticulitis pockets so it's good that I've been seeding our cucumbers. I don't see the tomatoes though I may begin doing that. I will also have to begin taking a fiber supplement. I eat a high fiber diet anyway but the doctor said a supplement wouldn't hurt. After the procedure we took the subway back to 16th Street. Instead of Chat and Chew Anthony and I went to the Good Stuff Diner where Lar, Amy, Jose and I (was there someone else, I forget) had breakfast when Amy was in town at the beginning of the Mercer documentary. I had a turkey burger (no cheese, I'm trying to lower my cholesterol) and some excellent cole slaw. Anthony had a California wrap, with chicken and a portobello mushroom. It tasted great after being without food for so long. I don't think I could ever fast for real. I just get too tired and cranky. One meal a day? Not for this growing boy!!!
I came home and took a nap and woke up about 4:30. I feel much better having food in my stomach and knowing it's all over.
Anyway, thanks for the good thoughts and wishes. I will return to my place of employment tomorrow and finish up all that needs finishing before my last day at work on November 25.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I really thought that I'd get up this morning, pack up a few orders, ship them and be done by eleven. I just finished doing everything a half-hour ago and then got a Subway turkey sandwich, which was awful, but I was so hungry I ate it anyway. I just kept packaging things and packaging things and it was two trips to the post office because stuff came in after I'd done the first run. But I got everything done and now I have the rest of the day - haven't heard from Grant about tonight. I just need a complete day off is what I just need but I don't exactly know when that's supposed to happen. It may, in fact, not happen until Christmas vacation.
-
Can someone tell me the exact title of the Mercer show so I can search it.
-
BK - "Johnny Mercer: The Dream's on Me" on TCM (8-10pm here in the Eastern Time Zone)
-
DR Ben - glad to hear that your procedure was uneventful and that you've now enjoyed a meal and a nap. Take it easy!
-
I gotta tell you.
BK, tell me: has my check arrived at your message center?
-
Very happy that gay marriage passed in Washington state, but sad that it did not in Maine.
That's terrible. :-[
-
And speaking of value...did you notice all of the nifty stills of Allison Hayes' guest shot on the old tv show BARBARY COAST?
Yes I bid on one of them. But they are only 4x5's! I think Rod Williams bid on the other two.
Maybe Rod will be kind enough to e-mail us scans...then we can go to Walgreen's and make 8x10s!!
-
Glad you survived the day, Ben.
-
Time will tell DR MBARNUM....he is usually generous.
-
Good news from DR BEN.
-
Executive Producer Clint Eastwood must have been the answer to my question that I asked DR EDISAURUS last month.
-
I got a nice pair of slipper socks out of it also. They give you a gown (opening in the back as they tell you) and a robe (opening in the front) and a pair of beige socks with tread on the feet, so you don't slip around). You put on the accoutrement and then sit and wait. After the procedure you get to change back into your street clothes and put the used clothing in the hamper in the bathroom. Well, the said "you can keep the socks if you like." I have a pair of slippers but I decided to see how these do for walking around the apartment. I like them so far and will wear them for the next few days (at home) and see how they hold up.
-
In stunning election news, all 9 public library levies passed in SW Ohio yesterday - overwhelmingly.
Great news! Congrats!!
-
DR Ben, I certainly do not look forward to one day having that procedure done! I am glad you are back home with Ant and food!
-
...and slipper socks.
-
My car has been inspected, tailpipe and all. Most of the cost went to labor, but I did need new rear drums and two new wiper blades.
-
DR Ben, I certainly do not look forward to one day having that procedure done! I am glad you are back home with Ant and food!
Ditto and Ditto!!
-
Aha! And DR ELMORE you know what Rita said.....when asked how to solve the staging problems in producing PEER GYNT she said: "Do it on the radio!"
I never read PEER GYNT...what are the staging problems??
-
Question for Ask BK Day:
Which album that you've produced has sold the most copies?
Do you typically keep up with sales figures for all of your releases, both old and new?
My best seller by far was Titanic: The Ultimate Collection - the right album at the right time and one I had to stomp my feet and scream at the owner of Varese to do, because he was dragging his feet on it - I finally marched into his office and said, "I'm doing it - you'll thank me later." In fact, I'd already hired the orchestrator and booked the recording date. That CD spent 48 weeks on the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart (debuting at number two), sold over 100,000 copies and was their best-selling album for many years. Postscript: He never thanked me, which, given the money he made (I had no royalties - just my yearly salary), is pretty, well, not pretty at all, but typical of that gentleman.
What a coinkydink! I actually have this CD at work with me right now! I love it, as does my niece (who is a Titanic fan) and we both thank you! :D
-
Aha! And DR ELMORE you know what Rita said.....when asked how to solve the staging problems in producing PEER GYNT she said: "Do it on the radio!"
I never read PEER GYNT...what are the staging problems??
The play is an epic in Five acts, covering about 50 years, with scenes running from the Mountain Kings court of Trolls in Norway to an Arabian desert, and a shipwreck at sea, with a cast of characters including Norwegian wedding guests, Trolls and other monsters, something frightening and indescribable called a Boyg, a Button-Moulder who melts down unredeemed souls, an Arabian chorus, and the two main characters Solveig and Peer Gynt who age from 18 to late 70s.
There's a wonderful recording of the new Grieg edition of the score with English actors including Derek Jacobi and Alex Jennings as Peer doing enough of the play to give the score continuity, and it's really quite moving. His redemption and death in Solveig's arms at the end is heartrending.
When Ibsen first wrote it, he never thought it would ever be produced, The Public Theatre produced it in Central Park for free around 1971, with Stacy Keach as Peer Gynt, Judy Collins as Solveig, and Estelle Parsons (as I recall) as his mother Ase, and a huge cast. The production did not use the Grieg score.
-
...Or I could just
pass out fall asleep on my couch for about 30 minutes...
-
DR Ben - Glad to hear that your procedure went well today. Btw, Martha Stewart keeps a basket of slipper-socks by her front door for her guests to use when they visit her house in Connecticut. ;)
-
And now... Dinner.
Laters...
Jake the dog was not elected to the city council, however he did get 60 votes. I am pleased that the only incumbant on the ballot lost.
-
Does anyone here watch TMZ - Live?
Question: Is BK moonlighting as the host of that program?
He has the wit, but maybe not the looks.
-
Very happy that gay marriage passed in Washington state, but sad that it did not in Maine.
Nope! Not gay marriage. The law is called everything but marriage.
-
Jake the dog was not elected to the city council, however he did get 60 votes. I am pleased that the only incumbant on the ballot lost.
I'm pleasantly surprised Jake the Dog's voes were counted & publicized.
-
DR Ben I'm happy to hear all went well, you had a good nap AND got a nice pair of slipper socks out of it. I am curious how you can already know the polyps are benign. Did someone biopsy them while you were still under? The doctor might have said they looked benign & they will call you with the results with they have them.
-
elmore, yes, check arrived and your package went out with all the others yesterday.
-
Good morning, all! After I posted around 5 this morning, I finally did get some sleep, and now I'm moving tentatively about the apartment. I think I will go into midtown around 12:30 and frop off the opening night(!!) gift for Tripp, the stage manager. I was going to give it to him on Saturday and by then I didn't feel like going out. I couldn't give the gift to him on opening night because a crucial element (double CD cases) was tardy in arriving in the mail. After that, I will visit a bit with friends in the show and head back home.
Say hi to Cheyenne for me!
Well, there was a publicized write in campaign by the Weekender, our local free paper. The hats, pins etc they sold went to helping the anumals at Animal Control.
Nope! Not gay marriage. The law is called everything but marriage.
Actually, I think it should be referred to as "everything but the word 'marriage'." In my humble opinion (IMHO in Internet lingo).
-
So, the movie before the Mercer documentary is A TICKLISH AFFAIR, which has an episode with a 'balloon boy.' I'm jus' sayin'. . .
-
Well, I'm off. I'm going to work concessions for 21st Century Masters Series (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=1118) - Louis Schwizgebel-Wang, Piano (http://www.louisschwizgebelwang.com/). I'm sure it'll be a wonderful program.
Until later!
-
I have been feeling a little off for the past 2 days. No real symptoms except feeling really tired.
I drove by the closest H1N1 clinic today since they are supposed to open tomorrow. The hotline did not have the proper info and my sis wanted to go tomorrow.
Apparently they only open at noon and are probably giving out the coupons (with numbers and times on them) at 11am. But we are wondering since it is the first day for non-health workers, if people will get there really early. Or maybe they won't even know it was open (it was supposed to open on friday).
My sis, niece and brother-in-law are eligible for the first group since my othe niece is under 6 months.
The guy had no idea when i'd be eligible. So he had me speak to a supervisor. She said most likely i would only be eligible in the last group (dec 7th). But that things change, so i should keep checking.
The first one that opened in Seattle, the crowd started gathering at 3:00 a.m.
And Jose, thank you for being the person you are.
-
DR JMK - can you "edit" typos in your reviews once they have been posted?
Well, yes, if I ever made any typos. ;D
Ummm....where did I make a typo?
If I read them, I would tell you.
-
DR Jose, you are wonderful. I hope you hear from the pilot.
I don't know what the staging problems are, but the viewing problem is staying awake.
I agree. We need a current photo of Sugar. :)
Welcome seven GUESTS.
-
Well - my lovely 24" x 30" framed print of John Douglas Cline's STONE MEMORIES (retail $100) was still at the lovely Goodwill store - it was marked $29.99 and with 30% off + tax, it was mine for a little over $22.
It is always great to get a good deal!!! I hope a photo of said print will follow. I want to see what it looks like.
Moi aussi!
-
I finished North By Northwest and while I'm doing stuff on the computer I'm listening to the isolated score track, which sounds great. I haven't heard from Mr. Geissman so I'm guessing tonight, like the other five nights we were definitely going to work, isn't happening.
I'm going to have to dig out a photo of our dog Sugar, may she rest in peace. I think of her every time Kerry mentions his Sugar. She was such a good dog
Love Sherlock as Holmes!
BEST BLURB BOOK CONTEST VIBES FOR THE DF OF DR JANE!
-
I gotta say after watching the Mercer documentary that Clint Eastwood's daughter should keep her mouth shut.
-
Thank you td. She is a very talented young woman from your home state, now living in the Netherlands.
-
Watched the Mercer doc, at least most of it (did they mention Frances during "I'm an Old Cowhand" maychance--missed that part). Edi, don't know how it devolved from your version, but I found it very enjoyable. Managed to see Greg in the credits, didn't see you, but boy was that font miniscule!!
-
Frances was in the background clapping during the COWHAND sequence but she was not referenced.
I only got as far as Keely Smith in a really hideous dress and had to turn it off.....didn't quite get the point of view....and it started off on the wrong foot with Eastwood's daughter screeching through that song.....
-
DR CILLA LIZ thanks for the Jake the Dog Election Report.
And DR KERRY....thanks for the Sugar avatar.....so cute.
-
DR JANE - I voted for the book! You don't even have to confirm your email address....once you fill in the info, the voting button becomes active....EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY.
-
I guess Grant is not happening tonight - this is the fourth time I've cleared my schedule based on what he's told me can happen - he didn't even call. I've had it and just wrote him a very strong e-mail. I told him that if he can't find the time to stop wasting MY time and hire a damn engineer to come over to his place and I'll finish it with that guy. I have five people who've been waiting patiently for this demo and the longer it takes to get it to them the more it's going to impact whether I have the funding to do the reading in February. Enough already.
-
....and it started off on the wrong foot with Eastwood's daughter screeching through that song.....
What song did she screech?
Continuing on our daily hike. We are now heading up a semi-steep hill.
-
The view just a bit higher.
-
Just for the record. I did not vote for Jake the Dog for city council I took the vote seriously so we could get rid of the absurd ordinance that put Jake the dog on death row
-
Love the photos
That's such a beautiful photo is doesn't look real
I know, I'm so lucky. Unless it is foggy I see that view several times a week. DR MBarnum, do you remember hiking it with DD Bosco?
-
Back down the hill, taking the easy way down to protect our knees ;)
-
I was pleased I got so much written after I got cleaned up. I was only planning on doing a little, and I ended up doing the entire top part of the review.
-
Beautiful photos, Jane. Thanks for posting.
-
What's the law, Cillaliz?
-
Then it was off to THE WOMAN IN BLACK.
This is NOT a distinguished play. There were a couple of shuddery moments, and the two actors in the cast (not counting to unspeaking woman/ghost) did just fine. The set was very functional, and the sound system was VERY important to the play having any kind of atmosphere or mood.
Hard to believe this has run in London for years.
-
I was going to watch MODERN FAMILY when I got in, but I decided that I'd just come upstairs and get my on-line business done and then get to bed early.
I haven't gotten a solid night's sleep since we did the daylight savings time changeover. Seems like I wake up every hour or two since Sunday.
-
Thanks DR Laura.
-
What's the law, Cillaliz?
It's a vicious dog ordinance, which is fine, but it's a one bite and your out rule and the person you appeal to is some retired cop - no animal behavior training at all. There is no provision to allow a rescue group to take the dog or to save the dog by getting it out of town. There are no provisions to beef up where you keep the dog and so on....
The ironic thing is the councilman who owned Jake was the biggest proponant of the pit bull ban. Anyway, there are proposals that will be given to the council to have a vicious dog ordinance with a three person panel - at least one of whom has to have had animal behavior training and possible provisions to allow a rescue group or some other group to take the dog out of the city. I think they are also proposing a repeal of the pit bull ban. dogs have already been killed just because they were pit bulls. no bite necessary
-
That's a real short summary. I guess the bottom line with Jake is the neighbor came over where Jake was playing with his children in his yard. The neighbor approached them and he bit the neighbor's hand. The neighbor didn't want anything to happen. He was a good dog, but his invisible fence was too close to the sidewalk and it happened. The ordinance basically says if you break the skin you die. Totally unreasonable. There are vicious animals and I understand why the ordinance exists, but there has to be a way to have exceptions for an animal protecting it's family
-
Wow. One bite. That's a tough law. We had a dog that used to bite, but didn't ever break the skin. I was always worried about her.
-
The boys are playing like nothing happened. Ginny is sitting on the rocking chair quietly. She had a pretty tough surgery today. I asked if I could buy pain meds for her, but they said she didn't need them.
That's what they told me after Callie's last procedure, I told them she was in pain and I at least wanted prednisone. It helped considerably. Glad they are recovering
Officials: Swine flu confirmed in Iowa cat By Michael J. Crumb, The Associated Press | Posted: Wednesday, November 4, 2009 2:30 pm
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A 13-year-old Iowa cat has been infected with swine flu, veterinary and federal officials said Wednesday in what is believed to be the first case of the H1N1 virus in a feline in the United States.
The domestic shorthaired cat was treated last week at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames and has recovered, officials said. The virus also has been confirmed in two ferrets -- one in Oregon and the other in Nebraska -- but they died.
"We've known certainly it's possible this could happen," said Centers for Disease Control spokesman Tom Skinner. "This may be the first instance where we have documentation that transmission occurred involving cats or dogs."
The veterinarian who treated the cat, Dr. Brett Sponseller, said two of the three people in the cat's Iowa home had flu-like symptoms before the cat became ill. The case was confirmed at both Iowa State and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Other influenza strains have been known to cross species, but Sponseller cautioned against drawing too many conclusions from the cat including whether other pets could also get the swine flu.
"It's well documented in influenza in general, but this is the first highly suspected case of H1N1 going from humans into a cat," he said.
The indoor cat was lethargic, had a loss of appetite and appeared to have trouble breathing after it became infected, Sponseller said. It's owners declined to comment.
Officials said pet owners should take the same precautions against spreading swine flu to pets as they would with humans.
Getting children vaccinated for swine flu can also help prevent the illness from spreading to pets. There is no swine flu vaccine for pets.
Dr. Ann Garvey, Iowa's state health veterinarian, said it is not yet known how sick cats or other pets could get from swine flu.
"Because we haven't seen that many cases, it's difficult to give a blanket assessment on how sick it can make an animal," she said.
I'm finished with my evening internet surf, so I'm going to head down to bed.
Good night!
Someone cut the lock on the fence at animal control and kidnapped Jake in August, not too long before his time was up. His whereabouts and the whereabouts of his kidnapper/rescuer are unknown. The day after he was rescued, shirts were printed saying "Run Jake Run" they sold out very quickly
-
There are currently 6 dogs I know of on death row. they all have attorneys who have filed law suits in district court trying to save them.
-
Whom do the attorneys bill?
-
Whom do the attorneys bill?
LOL. I assume the owners, but I don't know.
Actually, there may even be a defense fund, not sure
I had a little bird
its name was Enza
I opened the window
This Time the Dream's On Me (rather inappropriate for a kid her age) and Moon River. Too bad they cut so much of Audrey's verison out...one of the many songs we only get a glimpse of before people start pontificating again.
But I'm not bitter.
While I was sick I recall seeing something on the Spanish Influenza and they kept saying something to the effect
I had a little bird
its name was Enza
I opened the window
and In Flew Enza
Bird Flew!
I gotta say after watching the Mercer documentary that Clint Eastwood's daughter should keep her mouth shut.
That seems to be the general consensus of everyone. Except Clint.
:D
perhaps....
Oh boy...I haven't had that much to drink in a long time.
-
I did see your name in the credits Edi...had to look very closely, but I saw it
-
And that was a head credit!
But yes, it's hard when the people put in a lot of extraneous names. The asst. ed had his parents, girlfriend nd girlfriend's dead cat, but I had Bruce and HHW and they were not in it. Kind of bugged me because I onl sked for two name to be in the credits. But the dir was adding the people who worked at Starbucks, the hotel where he stayed...it was ridiculous. And the guy who Fed-exed tapes to us became the "line producer" because he was he son of someone whose husband was involved in the film. And people like Paul McCartney..."Thank you for not appearing in our film"! LOL...I think it made hte director feel important to have that many people in the credits.
But I'm not bitter. No.
-
Did anyone lese notice how good Robert Obsorne is looking these days? I often see him when I'm driving in to work at Turner. He is so friendly and waves to everyone!
-
I'm glad to see you back here, Edi!
-
I may have to DVR the next showing so I can watch the credits for the dead cat...not sure I've ever seen a credit for that before ;)
-
Frances was in the background clapping during the COWHAND sequence but she was not referenced.
I only got as far as Keely Smith in a really hideous dress and had to turn it off.....didn't quite get the point of view....and it started off on the wrong foot with Eastwood's daughter screeching through that song.....
I thankfully missed that part, too. I did notice Eastwood's son plunking out something on the piano toward the end, and I had to laugh when Bill Charlap, who narrated, then went on to "introduce" himself over the closing credits, informing us that his mother was the "great singer" Sandi Stewart and that Moose had "written the music to 'Peter Pan'". If you need to go into that much detail, don't. :)
-
Amy, where were you in the credits? I really had to squint, but I thought I was doing a wonderful job seeing every name. Guess not. :(
-
Joke's on me department: *Just* turned on the telly, and still had it on TCM, show was repeating, and there was the semi-lovely young Ms. Eastwood (who is the spitting image of Frances Fisher), singing. I'd call it more of a breathy sound than a screech. ;)
-
Don't be bitter, DR Edi! Just because I would have rather seen more of Audrey's solo with the guitar than the end scene in the rain is no reason to be bitter. . . .
-
Hi ;D
-
Goodnight, still really tired. :-[
Good Evening!
So....
We had just finished another wonderful dinner at Cafe Sim-Sim - a great Russian (Azerbaijani cuisine) place in Brooklyn - when the owner called me and my friend, Eric, over to his table. "Aran" had greeted us when we came in, and helped us decipher and translate a couple of the menu items before we ordered. He also informed us that it was only the second day on the job for our waitress, and continued to check in on us throughout our meal.
When we approached his table, he motioned for us to sit down, and the waitress start setting up some more plates for us. Both of us were truly full, but when the owner - and head cook - of a restaurant calls you over to his table, well.. You go. He was having his "staff meal" with his staff, and there various salads and grilled kebabs spread all over the table. He placed a piece of grilled lamb on each of our plates, then motioned to the salad of red bean, walnuts and garlic(!!!), as well as some marinated shredded carrots. Then he motioned to the waitress, and the next we knew, there were shot glasses placed in front of us.
Vodka! -Salut!
Then he placed a piece of grilled chicken on our plates. We started asking him questions about his background and his restaurant, and he was more than happy to share a bit of his personal history with us. One of the most impressive things he shared with us was that he personally shops for all the meats and vegetables for the restaurant. "When I look at a piece of meat, I don't look at the price tag. I look at is the best thing I can serve my customers." -And since his lamb kebabs are all with the $7-9 range, I'm pretty sure he is buying some quality meat, and most likely not making that much money on those items.
More Vodka. -Good Luck!
By that time, Eric and I were really trying to find some way to make a graceful exit. Not only were we both now "over full", but after two shots of vodka... That's when I decided to ask why he doesn't drink Russian vodka. We were drinking Tanqueray Sterling tonight, and we've noticed on past visits that he serves Finlandia. He said he does drink Russian vodka, but also pointed out that some "Russian" vodkas here in the States are made in the States - not imported from Russia. However, he said he did like Smirnoff. -And since the bottle of Tanqueray was almost empty...
As they say in Russia, "Three or Thirty-Three!"
Thankfully(?), we were able to leave at that time, and not have to stick around for "thirty-three".
Oy!
DR edisaurus - At least you had a good party tonight. Hopefully, the morning won't come to early for you tomorrow. ;)
-
And there were no people passed out face down on the sidewalk tonight. Whew! ;)
-
Well, I just watched tonight's "Top Chef Reunion Dinner" special. -It was pretty good, although, I wish it had been "super-sized" to at least an hour and fifteen minutes. The last part of it seemed a bit rushed.
-
And, now.... Sleep.
Goodnight.
-
I got an e-mail from someone who said I was in the end credits of the Mercer show - how did that happen?
-
Guess my e-mail to Grant worked, because he called and told me to come over - so we worked from 7:30 to 11:00 and got everything done.
-
Those are great pictures of Sherlock, Jane!
I gotta say after watching the Mercer documentary that Clint Eastwood's daughter should keep her mouth shut.
Well, I didn't get home in time to record it, myself. I did call my sister's boyfriend and he said that he would be able to record it for me, so I'll eventually be able to watch it.
