Well, you've read the notes, the notes were festive and gay, and now it is time for you to post until the festive and gay cows come home. They're currently celebrating the anniversary of not coming home for eight years.
-
And the word of the day is: MONOPHTHONGAL!

And the word of the day is: MONOPHTHONGAL!
MONOTHONGAL - an enervating affliction common among students; it is believed to be caused by the sharing of scanty underwear; it is sometimes called "the wedgie disease".

Happy Anniversary to BK and our very own HHW!! ;D

Happy Anniversary, BK and HHW!
I don't post often, but I do love to lurk and read the delightful posts. What a terrific group of people.
It's strange, but I do catch myself mumbling, This will NOT do, oh, no, this will not do....guess that's the HHW catchphrase that has taken up permanent residence in my brain.
Party on!
-
If you ask me, I don't think those poor fershlugunah cows are EVER coming home at this point. I DO think that they are all wearing pointy party hats today, however.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO HAINESHISWAY!!!!!!! :D :D :D
And cheers to our founder and host, bk, who makes it all possible. And to all the lovely Dear Readers, the wonderfully various and sundried denizens.

happy anniversary to bruce, guy and haines his way.
As for memories.
I think we look upon people on HHW as an extended family.
We have shared good times and bum times.
But for the most part we are all still here
I think we can trust one another
-
Morning all. I'm working on the Ford Foundation and listening to Songs from the Shows with Alex Hall on BBC Radio Tees.
Maureen Lipman is doing the Conga from Wonderful Town.
I have many fond memories of my time here.
Thanks to Bruce for bringing us all together.
-
And to all the lovely Dear Readers, the wonderfully various and sundried denizens.
DAW, I grew up in the desert and often quite parched, but I refuse to be categrized as sun-dried! What am I-- a raisin?!?!?!!?
-
Happy Anniversary to all and one and also to one and all!!!!!

What am I-- a raisin?!?!?!!?
Dare to be more. Be a craisin! :)

Happy Anniversary to HHW...from a relative newcomer.
;D
-
Thank you, BK, for keeping this wonderful web site going all these years. So many of us have made wonderful friendships here, and said friendships have been life-changing for some of us.
-
said friendships have been life-changing for some of us
You didn't mention if that was in a good or a bad way. ;)
-
So many HHW memories, too numerous to delineate.
I do love having bk's showbiz insidery glimpses and opinions and windows into the creative process.
Two of the most moving continuing 'stories' for me have been DR elmore3003's loss of his father and DR vixmom's successful struggle against cancer. I am in abject awe of their ability to open up and share these personal life-shaking events with the rest of us.
Also, the incredible generosity and beautiful souls of just about everyone here.
-
And the word of the day is: MONOPHTHONGAL!
And The Song Of The Day Is: HAPPY TALK
(And Isn't that what we have here at HHW. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ALL OF US Happy Talkers and Especially to a GUY named BRUCE)

One of the members over at CASTRECL has commented that he has proofed a forthcoming 2 volume collection of Stephen Sondheim's lyrics, put together by bk's close and personal friend, Mr. Sondheim himself.
Apparently there will be an introduction, a foreword (on his philosophy of rhyme), a preface, and then two chapters for every Sondheim show. The first chapter is about the show - how it came about, the experience, the collaborations, etc. The second chapter will contain all the lyrics for that show - including cut songs - with commentary and anecdotes interspersed. It looks like the first volume will go from "Saturday Night" through "Night Music" [the first volume does include "West Side," "Gypsy," and "Waltz," but does not include non-stage works like "Evening Primrose" or individual lyrics he contributed to others shows, such as "Don't Laugh" for "Hot Spot" - these will be included in the second volume along with the post "Night Music" shows.]
Can't wait!!! :D :D
-
I wouldn't still be here if it wasn't in a good way.
-
I hear this place has been around on the inner web for NINE years! That's longer than some relationships and longer than most people keep their cars!
That's some accomplishment.
MR BK's notes detailed the why's of the beginnings - which were painful - but the site is indeed unique and euphonious.
Why? Because of MR BK's sense of humor and his interesting writing - and the collection of persons who post here nearly everyday - and those who drop by now and then.
I of course love being "in the know" in the show business world and MR BK, DR ELMORE, DR JOSE, sometimes DR RODZINSKI, DR CP, DR MATTHEW, DR EDISAURUS, and others here who tell us how things are going and what to look forward to and what to overlook.
I also love reading from those DR's who now and then do a show - as I do - Way Off Broadway - DR GEORGE and DR td.
I like reading DR MATTH's tv and movie musings - and of course DR JMK and DR MBARNUM always have a tidbit or two to add. DR LAURA, DR JANE, DR GINNY, DR CILLA LIZ, DR JEANNE, and DR VIXMOM are always a delight. DR TCB, DR DAW, DR MS, and others also always brighten my day and darken my towels.
I know I am leaving out many, many people, because each and every one of you writes about life in a unique and interesting way,
So thanks to everyone - happy anniversary - but of course most of all thanks to MR BK for giving us this lively playpen.
-
Miss Annette Funicello says Happy Anniversary to Bruce Kimmel and HHW! ;D

Since our avatars are so small now, let's all post a recent picture of ourselves to celebrate our community! ;D
Here I am at work. Ignore the indicator card. :o
-
And now I am off to do some Monday things.
-
The Lovely Wife and I raise a glass to our special, much-loved, much-missed pal BK and to Guy Haines and all the posters who have made this the most welcoming and entertaining site for so many years. Congratulations! Happy Anniversary! Long May You Reign! I'm having ham and cheese chunks, diet coke, and dancing the Hora, as well as the Mashed Potatoes, The Twist, The Pony, The Hully Gully, The Watusi, and The Limbo (How Low Can You Go)!
-
Good morning!
Another beautiful morning, but I fear it's our last for several days. Rain is supposed to move in starting tomorrow.
-
Happy Anniversary indeed!
I'm not sure how long I've been around these here parts, but I can say that it seems to have flown by.
I would also be remiss to not extend heartfelt thanks to all the HHWers who were SO supportive of me during my health crisis this past summer and early fall. I had never faced anything like it before, and knowing I could count on the supportive good wishes of folks here went a long way toward making me not feel SO depressed about what was happening to me.
Hail to HHW! Long may she wave!
-
Page Two Dance!!!
-
Unless something more pressing comes in the mail today, I'll be doing the 1969 DOWNHILL RACER from Criterion as my work project of the day. It's DVD, not Blu-ray (perhaps Paramount wants to release the Blu-ray itself at a later date), but not having seen the movie in decades, I'm looking forward to revisiting it.
-
Actually, I have a fairly recent picture of myself that I photoshopped into another picture to make my avatar at my work site, but it's on the computer downstairs, and I'll have to remind myself to post from down there.
-
Monday morning greetings and
Happiest of anniversaries to Haines His Way and our ever-lovin' host - BK!
-
I notice that DR Charles Pogue did not dance The Lambada - The Forbidden Dance.
-
Nice photo, DR JRand59. I do not have a current photo of Myownself.
-
I'm heading down now to do a little cleaning and then have an early clean-up for lunch out today with best friend John. Then, before we leave, I'll sample some TV still on the DVR. I'm sure I'll start with last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS.
WBBL.
-
Or that photo of you as Smudge would make a nice addition for today, Matt H.
-
Absolutely, as dear DR Laura said, said friendships have at times been life-changing. So far, for me, all in positive ways
-
Can I just say, as an aside, that the Peppermint Meringue Cake with Chocolate Buttercream which appears on the December cover of Bon Appétit looks quite yummilicious?

In addition to all the new acquaintances, both virtual and in-person, I'd like to thank HHW for enabling me to get comfortable with social networking in a somewhat controlled environment before jumping into the more open online venues like Facebook and Twitter.
-
Ginny, Charlie, and Michael went to adoptions on Saturday. I haven't had any word yet. But then I've been out of town.
-
Traditional 9th wedding anniversary presents have a theme of Pottery and Willow.
A contemporary or modern 9th anniversary present has a theme of Leather.
The flowers associated with the 9th anniversary are Poppies
Well, isn't it obvious we all need to chip in for a leather pot holding willows and poppies for BK?

Good morning, all! My voice is coming back, and I feel good, but I cannot stop coughing up gunk.
BK, today's notes were really somethng special, and since I wasn't around for the beginnings of HHW, I really enjoyed reading your original post. I must admit that I, too, was telling people that I had heard you were sacked for embezzlement, a thing I had been told in late summer 2001 by the person and longtme friend who did you in. Thank God I mentioned it to Liz Callaway in 2003 and we discussed the truth of the situation from several perspectives since she had been in contact with you. Ms Callaway has been my lucky charm for some time now and I love having her in my life. If it weren't for that 2003 discussion I would never have reconnected with you and come to HHW.
I think my two favorite events have been the East and West Coast gatherings of the Hainesies and Kimlets for Penny O's show in New York and the Kimmel birthday bash/grand opening of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X at LACC. Around these two Big Events, there have been pleasant sidelines like other HHW gatherings amd formation of solid friendships, and unpleasantly, a couple of tumultuous battles and too much illness, poor health, and death. I am grateful for the emotional support the friends on this site provide. I don't have - nor want - my own blog, so writing to the DRs about my father's decline and death took me out of my pain and grief to a space where I could articulate my feelings. The support and care from the DRs was much more than I will ever ever get from the Macbeths, so I suppose that HHW has become my nuclear cyber family, just as several of you have found places in my actual surrogate. Thank you for that.
-
I suppose that HHW has become my nuclear cyber family
Especially MBarnum, who has become your surrogate son/brother/pet hamster. :)
-
I have a follow-up appointment with the podiatrist this afternoon. I'm pleased with the healing that's taken place, but not happy about how nauseous the antibiotic makes me.
-
I hope you are feeling better soon, Ginny!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I have physical therapy at 1:oo; I cancelled on Friday because I had completely lost my voice and felt like going nowhere but to bed. Speaking of bed, I have to make mine. And look online for a new quilt or comforter.
Happy 9th Anniversary, Bruce!
MAD MEN had a great season ender.....and if they jump ahead a couple of years when they start up next summer - all should be humming along and relationships all different.
Peggy was a firecracker last night!
TAR was also quite enjoyable and it looks like we have some DRAMA next week between a couple of teams....in their swimsuits.
DR George - are you aware of any problem with www.keepvid.com?? I can't get the webpage to load. :(
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And....
I'm up... And....
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ALL OF US!!!!!!
AND A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR VERY OWN BK!!!!
-
I, too, am up and will go do the long jog soon. Keep these wonderful posts coming.
-
I am heading off to physical therapy now. The quandary is whether afterwards I go down to MTI or do that tomorrow. Hmmm............
-
I'm returning to the potential new house today with the contractor who did our kitchen remodel here. Want to get an idea of costs. Oy.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
The one thing that comes to my mind right now is noticing that bk asked, "Is Jose working?" - that was during the wee hours of July 7, 2004. And on July 8, I flew to L.A. to start working on What If?... And I didn't fly back to Virginia until almost a full four months later.
Whew!
:)
-
That was almost as long as the Ricardos and the Mertzes stayed in Hollywood, DR JOSE.
-
Let's not slow down our anniversary postings or I shall have to bitch-slap those who are slowing down from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
I'm returning to the potential new house today with the contractor who did our kitchen remodel here. Want to get an idea of costs. Oy.
Good idea. Don't forget to double the expected costs ;)
-
I think I'll go do my errands and whatnot right now, then do the long jog.
-
Darn, I forgot to leave out the butter last night to softened. I was about to bake a cake, a new recipe. I also need to bake cookies & forgot to get more eggs yesterday.
I hate to have soooo much to do on this special day. I'll work very hard to get everything done so I can return this evening.
Favorite HHW expressions:
You could combine them into one all purpose phrase.
Like
"I'm a Lesbian and I blame Jose"
Or, "Are you blaming me because Jose is a lesbian"?
HHW is the first place I check in the morning, and the last place I check at night, so here is wishing a very happy anniversary to the wonderful world of HHW!!
I always enjoy "And one for Mahler" and all the variations.
Back from errands and whatnot.
And stuff like that there.
I'm telling you!
How can there be any "sin" in sincere?
Where is the "good" in goodbye?
Most readers are identified. If you are not, please point yourself out in the photo. Some readers came in drag which added to the merriment!
There was music, scintillating conversation, bitch slapping, and revealing of secrets. Just another day at HHW! ;D
Wow, 8 years. I think I found this site in 2002 when I found bk and asked what he thought about the new "Into the Woods" recording.
I have enjoyed sharing stories, music, CD's and such will all the DR's here. It certainly has been like a family. And the phrase errant and truant is one that I hear way too much. Also I frequently use "like so much fish" with my classes when they are less than enthusiastic about their lesson!
A VERY, VERY, VERY (that's THREE very's) HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO HAINESHISWAY! And to all the friends I've made here over the years!
-
I've been to physical therapy and made my trip to Music Theatre International for my first MOST HAPPY FELLA edits. I forgot them last week when I picked up the clean copy for the second edit. I may begin work on this after a trip to the market and Judge Judy.
I just got an email from the reporter friend who contacted me through DR Rodzinski and I asked him - AGAIN! - to check out HHW. We need new blood.
-
Yes DRtd, that is you. Sorry you were not identified.
I believe that is me seated between DRS MBarnum and Sandra. . .
I like that DR DtM and I are holding the BIG OARS. :)
Hello hello to everyone!
-
It's a par-TAY!
-
Yes, I wore a tie, just for the occasion. I don't even wear a tie to work so you people must be special.
-
I do look like the shortest male in the group and that would probably be true if we all congregated in one spot again. That's why I'm standing in the back, so I look taller.
It's in-taller-able! :P
It's in-taller-able! :P
Yeah, you can say that. You're tall!
Love the group photo!
DR Julie - yesterday you mentioned a Vermeer exhibit. Have you read Susan Vreeland's Girl in Hyacinth Blue? My book group loved it, along with her novels based on the lives of several other painters.
Yes DR BEN you are overdressed. I am trying to figure out how I can play my ukelele holding it like th
I did reach a milepost and didn't even realize it! Whew!
Vermeer was an exhibitionist? I tell you, HHW is a font and veritable fountain of information.
I hear it's a real nice day for a clam bake!
What a special day here at HHW. Congratulations to Bruce and Guy Haines for starting this here site, and making it the wonderful place it is today. It really is amazing to think about all those days of continuous notes from bk. Really chronicling life, it's ups and downs, the big things and the small things.
It's fascinating to read those very first notes and see how the site started. I remember back when all this was going on - although I hadn't met Bruce yet at that time. My only contact with him had been ordering a few CDs from the site that shall not be named. I remember I was terribly disappointed at the time to hear that Bruce was leaving, because I really liked and appreciated the nameless site. There aren't many places that lovers of musical theater and the American Songbook could depend on to turn out CDs of this music, so every one of them was and is precious, and I knew that Bruce's departure meant we would be losing a good one.
I had heard the nasty rumors, but was a member of the ATC board at the time, so I knew Bruce's side of things, and always believed he got the raw deal. It was, after all, his company. How do you throw someone out of their own company? None of it made sense, and I realized there were certainly lots of goings on and motivations that none of us on the outside knew anything about. But what was apparent was how hurt Bruce seemed to be, what a bizarre shake up it seemed to be, and what a loss to the rest of us it seemed to be.
But - time marches on, and a good thing that is, because thanks to Bruce, we now have this wonderful site that many people think of as home, and Bruce has the wonderful Kritzerland, which is becoming a major source of important music releases, to the benefit of all of us.
So special congratulations to BK today, and a happy HHW celebration to all of you on this lovelier than lovely anniversary.
-
DR Julie - yesterday you mentioned a Vermeer exhibit. Have you read Susan Vreeland's Girl in Hyacinth Blue? My book group loved it, along with her novels based on the lives of several other painters.
Ginny - I have not read that book, but I it has been recommended to me by someone else and now you, so I must certainly move it to the top of my list. Thank you for the recommendation!
-
Vermeer was an exhibitionist? I tell you, HHW is a font and veritable fountain of information.
Would that be Helvetica, or Times New Roman?
-
Congratulations to DR JRand on that very impressive milestone posting number. :)
-
Loved the "9th Annual HHW Anniversary Gala and Musicale" photo!! ;D
-
I DO think that they are all wearing pointy party hats today, however.
(http://www.cfadorchester.com/images/party-cows01.jpg)
I like that photo. ;D
-
I didn't know Jose was a lesbian.
It's a good thing I read the board today. Who knows when this info would again be made public.
-
I blame Jose for the lack of prior public disclosure.
-
And for everything else, too.
-
Bad Jose.
-
I am also very grateful for the very warm welcome I received here when I first joined this board.
We don't really need to see a photo of Myownself. Just one of you, please. :)
And I would like to thank DR FJL for telling me about HHW, and introducing me to the people here.
Feel better vibes for Ginny.
Back from a three-mile jog. I have to go ship a bunch of packages and then join my web designer to see about what we may want to do with this site over the next few months, in terms of bringing it up to date.
-
Looks like my frenzy drove everyone away.
-
How did it get to be 4pm already?
-
DR JULIE you are not identified in the photo! Sorry. I know you were there!
-
How did it get to be 4pm already?
I meant DR JULIE....font is Matisse!
-
Back from a three-mile jog. I have to go ship a bunch of packages and then join my web designer to see about what we may want to do with this site over the next few months, in terms of bringing it up to date.
BK, could there a possibility of being able to sort search results by date...or having them default to newest first?? To me, having the results sort by "relevance" is NOT helpful. So that would be my request. :)
-
Will a fight break out over who will carry my lunch hamper?
This ain't OKLAHOMA! and you're no Laurie. More of a trampier Ado Annie.
-
Before heading off for lunch, I managed to watch a couple of shows. I began with last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS. A really stupid plot about Robert going ballistic on a bigot (the guy deserved it, but was there any surprise it made the internet. Nowadays, there is always someone video-ready to snap anything embarrassing or confrontational).
I got a little annoyed at the typical soap opera stuff with Justin admitting how relieved he was that Rebecca wasn't pregnant. "Now, what did you want to tell me." And she bites her lip and says nothing. Oh, so hackneyed!
-
DR JULIE you are not identified in the photo! Sorry. I know you were there!
I knew it was a bad idea to wear my invisible outfit to the partay, even though it was brand spankin' new. I obviously wasn't anticipating photographs. ;)
Ado Annie has SUCH funny lines....
Ali: And upstairs, baby....is paradise.
Annie: Paradise? I thought they 'us jis' bidrooms!
-
Looks like my frenzy drove everyone away.
I'm here, DR Julie! And happy you are here.
-
DR JULIE you are not identified in the photo! Sorry. I know you were there!
I knew it was a bad idea to wear my invisible outfit to the partay, even though it was brand spankin' new. I obviously wasn't anticipating photographs. ;)
LOL....it wasn't on the agenda....who knew DR LAURA would bring her camera and timer.
-
I also had time to watch last night's THREE RIVERS from HD On Demand. Another good episode. I got vested in all three cases. Again, the personal lives of the doctors are of much less interest to me, and eveything there is telegraphed so blatantly, it's insulting.
-
Are you feeling better, Larry?
-
Congratulations to DR JRand on that very impressive milestone posting number. :)
Not to mention a lot of typing.
I do not believe, personally, that our DR Jose is a lesbian. He has never once offered to move my piano or change my tires.
-
When I got in, I started on today's work project: DOWNHILL RACER. I really love the ending, making your heart skip a beat at the end with the possibility of a big upset. I hadn't seen this in many decades, and maybe I've grown up and my eyes have been opened to the world a little more, but he didn't seem quite as selfish and caddish as he did back when the film was first released.
Or maybe we have seen athletes with much bigger egos and more selfish behavior that this seems tame now.
-
Looks like my frenzy drove everyone away.
No. Just being pensive. :)
-
Are you feeling better, Larry?
My voice is still very shaky - I speak in several registers - and my cough won't go away. Otherwise I feel good.
-
There is no commentary (something of a surprise actually since several of the players are still around), but there are a good many interviews, and I only had time for the first one: a combination of Redford and the screenwriter for the film discussing the painful job of getting the producvtion finally made only to have Paramount basically dump it.
-
Looks like my frenzy drove everyone away.
No. Just being pensive. :)
You think?
-
He has never once offered to change my tires.
Did he offer to kick them, though?
-
Here is the official photo from the 9th Annual HHW Anniversary Gala and Musicale.
Most readers are identified. If you are not, please point yourself out in the photo. Some readers came in drag which added to the merriment!
There was music, scintillating conversation, bitch slapping, and revealing of secrets. Just another day at HHW! ;D
You guys always make me stand in the back!
I think I'm in the back there with you, unidentified. ;D
-
He has never once offered to change my tires.
Did he offer to kick them, though?
Doubtful...and I'll bet a lube job was out of the question, too.
-
I didn't know Jose was a lesbian.
It's a good thing I read the board today. Who knows when this info would again be made public.
;D
-
And I would like to thank DR FJL for telling me about HHW, and introducing me to the people here.
Thank you DR FJL for introducing DR Julie to us. :)
That's because you are the lesbian.
FINIAN'S RAINBOW has gone up this week from a gross last week of $371,003 (73.7%) to $556,349(75.3%) this week. This bodes good.
I'm hopping off-line now to get some writing done. Then, it's back down to finish the rest of the bonus features on DOWNHILL RACER and then for some leisure viewing.
Hello, everyone.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO HHW! And a BIG PAT ON THE BACK to BRUCE!
-
DR Jennifer I just read children nine and under need to get two doses. Is this true? If so will they even give your niece a second dose?
I also read it takes up to 14 days for the vaccine to take effect.
-
Great FINIAN'S RAINBOW news!!!
-
Hi DR Jeanne.
-
A busy morning here. I'm starving and must get some lunch. WBBL to read the posts.
-
Hi, Jane.
Sorry. Gotta scoot.
TTFN.
-
DR DAW, O pensive one, were you the dear reader who had asked about Kay Thompsn recordings? I just saw this on Amazon.com and thought of you.
The Very Thought of You...
I just saw this on Amazon.com and thought of you.
I wasn't the one who asked, but it is nice that you thought of me! :)
Well, who the hell asked about her? Maybe it was DR Dan(theMan)! Keeping tabs on all the DRs' requests is exhausting.
-
The Very Thought of You...
You're still thinking about John Barrowman and the cake?
-
No, Jonathan Cake! :)
-
With the current state of your voice, DR elmore3003, if you were to sing "Happy Birthday" to HHW, you might sound like Marilyn Monroe! :D
-
Happy Birthday to HHW! I don't know if it's the most popular site on the internet, but it's certainly my FAVORITE site!
Some of my favorite memories of being here include editing the DVD for THE BRAIN, the subsequent trip to NY for STARFIGHTER and BRAIN (so great to see it live after watching it on tape for hours on end) spending time with the cast and crew and fellow denizens, and seeing my husband make his Broadway debut, thanks to bk.
One of the most fun nights to me was when I had to make a dish for an Oscar party, and the suggestions were fast and furious and had me laughing so hard I could barely breathe! I also love watching the awards shows and everyone's snarky comments.
I have learned so much about the theatre, music and movies, and there is alway something here to make me laugh on those days when you really need a laugh. I have gained a greater appreciation for the things life has to offer though all the links, suggestions---everything that has expanded my horizons (and occasionally my waistline.) I blame Jose!
I also enjoyed collecting people's voicemails on my answering machine and all of the photos that everyone generously shared when I was collecting material to put together for bk's birthday DVD. I enjoyed coming home every night and seeing who called and hearing some voices for the first time. It was much more fun to have free reign than to have a bunch of network folks telling you what to do! And to celebrate with bk at Ghenghis Cohen was the icing on the birthday cake.
The folks on this site have been so welcoming from the very first moment I signed on, and a constant source of encouragement and support. The people I've considered my own closest friends haven't supported the work I do nearly as much as the people here, who have taken time out to come to screenings, buy DVDs and even made financial or content contributions to us struggling filmmakers. The generosity of Fred and Skip to bring everyone together when we premiered S&V, and Ben and Ant keeping Christmas alive in their home until we could get there to share it with them in late January. I've learned so much from Larry, such a generous soul who is always sharing wonderful music, and a day without Singdaw is a day without laughter. Everyone that I've been able to meet and those I haven't yet... I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon such a great group of people.
I love you all! Thank you, bk for bringing us all together!
-
DR Edisaurus - it is so wonderful to have you back here on a more regular basis. :)
I shudder to think what this means, DR DAW! Another mental block?
-
Hate to leave this anniversary par-tay, but I have to feed dinner to my family and then attend an AAUW meeting. I'll be back later for more festivities...bye for now!
-
I have been meaning to rant all day about nannies and stupid mothers. In the past week I have seen so many of them walk strollers and/or children into crosswalks when the sign says "Don't Walk" or the light has tunred yellow. I'm a single adult and I jaywalk like crazy, but what is it with these idiots and children?
Ohmigod, I've turned into DR Francois!
-
DR Edisaurus - it is so wonderful to have you back here on a more regular basis. :)
Thanks, I think so, too! And you can see that what kept me away was certainly worth it...NOT!
bk will be glad to know that in the DVD extras of the Mercer doc, you will be able to enjoy about 40 more minutes of scintilating Clint conversation as well as the entire musical numbers by little Miss E. :-)
-
Miss Monroe sings on pitch.
She probably looks better in a dress, too.
She does look better in a dress. I had to wear one in a play many years ago in the role of a whorehouse madam that was a cross between Lotte Lenya and Mae West. i was good as a hardboiled jaded really homely old whore.
Plus ça change... (plus c'est la męme chose)!
Happy Anniversary to HHW!
My niece was feeling a bit better today. But in the afternoon she had a fever again (101F). She was also blowing yucky colors from her nose.
The thing is since so few people have had the H1N1 shot, there is not a lot of good info here about the side effects to the shot. so nobody my sis called knows if the fever could last this long. or if it is now related to a cold.
-
But in semi-interesting H1N1 news there were not enough people on the weekend getting shots (after the chaos on thurs and fri). So they moved up a bunch of categories. My aunt and uncle were able to go this morning. They got there at 7am and their coupon was for 8am!
-
Back from lunch and a long, involved discussion about this here site. We're going to move very slowly, but over the next few months we're going to do some major work - new sections, a partial new design, better search capabilities. In the meantime, it looks like we're being asked to upgrade the discussion board software again to the latest version. Before I click THAT particular button, they have to assure me that the important things, like avatars and archives will not be affected - that everything will work exactly the same. As long as they assure me of that, we'll do the upgrade, which, as I understand it, will involve a slightly new look for the board.
-
And I would like to thank DR FJL for telling me about HHW, and introducing me to the people here.
Thank you DR FJL for introducing DR Julie to us. :)
Thank you Jane for really making me smile!
That was so beautifully said. What lovely thoughts.
I believe that is me seated between DRS MBarnum and Sandra. . .
And what a fetching blouse you're wearing!
Yes, it is, isn't it? Wasn't it you who fetched it for me? ;)
-
Everyone have a good evening.
I'm off to the Bernadette Peters concert - a benefit for Broadway Barks and BC/EFA. I'll check back in later tonight.
And since we're so close...
PAGE NINE DANCE!!
DR Edisaurus - it is so wonderful to have you back here on a more regular basis. :)
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page nine.
Unless new avatars can be made larger, like before...that would be nice.
Yesterday i finally go to watch the first 2 episodes of WHITE COLLAR. I liked it. And although the pilot was better, i still enjoyed episode 2.
What a great role for the lead. I actually really like both leading men. Interesting show!
-
I have been meaning to rant all day about nannies and stupid mothers. I'm a single adult and I jaywalk like crazy, but what is it with these idiots and children?
Why shouldn't they jaywalk when you do ;D
-
What a wonderful HHW photo of us all! We all look so young and gay!
I am certainly glad I remembered to wear my best shirt that day.
Is DR Ginny holding a bomb?
-
DR Jennifer I just read children nine and under need to get two doses. Is this true? If so will they even give your niece a second dose?
I also read it takes up to 14 days for the vaccine to take effect.
I think here they were waiting to find out if the kids would need two doses. They said probably, but they were not sure. I think it would be 21 days later. i'm not sure what they would do since she had a reaction. But i'm guessing she will probably still have to get it.
She may be going to her regular doctor tomorrow.
-
But in semi-interesting H1N1 news there were not enough people on the weekend getting shots (after the chaos on thurs and fri). So they moved up a bunch of categories. My aunt and uncle were able to go this morning. They got there at 7am and their coupon was for 8am!
I'm confused as to why your aunt & uncle would be ahead of you, unless they have medical conditions.
Is it possible your niece actually has H1N1 & the timing is a coincidence? Is she breathing ok? That seems to be the most important issue.
CONTINUED VIBES SHE IS SOON BETTER!
-
Thank you for the wonderful notes, BK. And thank you for eight years of delightful daily mussings. You are correct, this is a rare group of people, a family. This site has become a second home for me, a place to relax with friends, and unwind from the stress of daily life.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, BK!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US ALL!
-
DR JMK how is Zack doing?
-
Traditional 9th wedding anniversary presents have a theme of Pottery and Willow.
A contemporary or modern 9th anniversary present has a theme of Leather.
The flowers associated with the 9th anniversary are Poppies
Should we tell Jayson that you are hoping for leather this holiday?
-
Will we never get to page ten?
-
Like so much fish.
So many HHW memories, too numerous to delineate.
I do love having bk's showbiz insidery glimpses and opinions and windows into the creative process.
Two of the most moving continuing 'stories' for me have been DR elmore3003's loss of his father and DR vixmom's successful struggle against cancer. I am in abject awe of their ability to open up and share these personal life-shaking events with the rest of us.
Also, the incredible generosity and beautiful souls of just about everyone here.
What do you mean by "just about everyone?"
-
Welcome to our new DR (Dear Reader) KevinH. We hope you will join in and post with us.
-
Darn. He left.
-
Unless something more pressing comes in the mail today, I'll be doing the 1969 DOWNHILL RACER from Criterion as my work project of the day. It's DVD, not Blu-ray (perhaps Paramount wants to release the Blu-ray itself at a later date), but not having seen the movie in decades, I'm looking forward to revisiting it.
Oh Matt H., watch for the scene with RR in just a towel. A short scene, but a memorable one!
-
He's back! Welcome, KevinH.
-
DR KevinH, welcome! Tell us what brought you here and how you found us.
-
The DR stands for "Dear Reader," BTW. There are no doctors here, to my knowledge.
-
Hello all-
I just wrote a long post and apparently did something wrong because it's not showing, so this will be a test!
Miss Monroe sings on pitch.
She used to sing "Old Black Magic" in the Mercer doc, but...well...someone on high thought it made her look like a bad singer. Same person who wanted to take out Audrey singing "Moon River". Maybe he thought his offspring sang it better? To the director's credit, we got to keep Audrey. Oy...
Hello all-
Kevin
You get an A+ on your first test. Until your used to the board, if it's a longer post, might want to write it in a Word document (or whatever program you use) and then cut and paste it - after you're used to the board, then you can just do it directly.
New DR KevinH, do you have any pets?
-
Amazon.com is now selling the CD "Clint Eastwood Presents: Johnny Mercer "The Dream's On Me" A Celebration of His Music".
Adoption vibes to Ginny, Charlie, and Michael! May they all find wonderful homes!!!
Oh Lord, I thought Ginny was adopting another child!
How sweet of you, DR Jane, to bake us a cake and cookies for our special day!!! :D
And she is going to deliver each one of them personally to our individual homes.
-
Amazon.com is now selling the CD "Clint Eastwood Presents: Johnny Mercer "The Dream's On Me" A Celebration of His Music".
DR edisaurus, I will not be purchasing the CD or most likely watching the DVD, so please forgive me. This ole whore would rather hear Ms Whiting, Ms Cloney, Mr Sinatra, Ms Ella Fitzgerald, Ms Hepburn or Monroe, or a lot of other fantastic singers sing Mercer and Friends on his own time. My favorite recording of "My Shining Hour" is the great Mabel Mercer.
-
Well, if that didn't scare off KevinH...
Welcome!
-
How sweet of you, DR Jane, to bake us a cake and cookies for our special day!!! :D
Let's see if they come out first. ;)
You're baking gay cookies?
-
I just read this in an introduction to Jules Verne's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA:
Television and movies have made us lazy readers - we expect everything to happen fast, to be easy to absorb. Great books, on the other hand, often take their time. They pull us into their worlds more slowly, but once we're in, they take us much more deeply.
The author is Bruce Coville.
-
Hello again--
Let me start over! My name is Kevin and I live in the Washington DC area.
I think I first heard of HHW through a link on allthatchat.com. I later realized that Bruce was the same Bruce Kimmel who had produced all those CDs that feature Brent Barrett (my favorite male singer). Little did I know that Brent was often discussed here and even has a nickname (WSMA)!
I think it's amazing that Bruce has managed to write on his site every single night for 8 years-it really must be a record. And you're a great group of people. I really enjoy the behind-the-scenes show biz information provided by Bruce and elmore. And at first I did think that some of you were doctors !
I can't promise to post as often as some of you. One probem is that I can't see Bruce's current notes on my work computer, so I don't know what some of the DRs are referring to. I usually read Bruce's notes in the evening. I don't think I can complain to the computer guy since it's not exactly work-related!
Thanks for welcoming me Laura and elmore and Happy Anniverary to HHW!
Kevin
A warm and hearty welcome to our newest Dear Reader, KevinH!!!!! :D
It sounds like you've been a Dear Lurker for a while. I can't think of a better way to celebrate HHW's anniversary than to welcome a new DR to our midst! :)
DR KevinH, are you invovled in music or theatre or are you happy being an audience member? What kind of work do you do? When I signed on originally it was to post every once in a while and, like other DRs, I found I was happy sharing gossip and bitchery with a lot of wonderful folk I enjoy communicating with every day.
I assume you know that Brent has a new recording currently released only on the Kritzerland site, and it's getting good word-of-mouth.
-
I'll drink to that!
Pig!
Hey!!!
-
Welcome to KevinH! The topic of the day is usually easy to discern, even if you haven't read the notes. And just post whenever you feel like it, about anything you like - that's the joy here. It's a free-for-all in the best way.
Brent's CD has finally shown up at amazon.com and has already gotten two raves, one from our very own DAW.
-
Guess I'd better shave. It's been a few days.
And I suppose your hair is still in curlers! How many bon-bons have you eaten today, my dear?
-
Welcome back to pigs - it's been way too long.
-
I wanted elmore to come East and live with me.
Wouldn't that be kind of...
...incestuous? ;)
Actually, given the fact that elmore was one of DR DearReaderLaura's kittens, I think the term is "bestial." I suspect Jason was asked to define the word before he could marry you.
HHW is the first place I check in the morning, and the last place I check at night, so here is wishing a very happy anniversary to the wonderful world of HHW!!
(http://i.ebayimg.com/05/!BcWeOz!BWk~$(KGrHqEH-DcEq)OO+!TqBK0KS8ng+w~~_12.JPG)
I have never heard of this film.
Oh, dear! DR DAW left and I can't kick him around any more. Shoot.
I like that DR DtM and I are holding the BIG OARS. :)
You mean fondling.
Welcome DR KevinH!
Do you have any pets?
-
But in semi-interesting H1N1 news there were not enough people on the weekend getting shots (after the chaos on thurs and fri). So they moved up a bunch of categories. My aunt and uncle were able to go this morning. They got there at 7am and their coupon was for 8am!
I'm confused as to why your aunt & uncle would be ahead of you, unless they have medical conditions.
Is it possible your niece actually has H1N1 & the timing is a coincidence? Is she breathing ok? That seems to be the most important issue.
CONTINUED VIBES SHE IS SOON BETTER!
Yes my aunt and uncle do have medical conditions. They moved up people who have chronic or immune deficiencies between 5-65. My aunt has diabetes and my uncle had heart problems.
My category is the last one (healthy adults aged 18-65).
No i don't think my niece could have H1N1 as she doesn't have any of the symptoms. she never had a high fever. The highest she had was around 102F. But it's normal tonight. Also she doesn't have a cough and she never had trouble breathing.
they say it is very common to get a fever after you get the shot.
-
Thanks to all for welcoming me so warmly! No, DR Jane, I don't have any pets. We had a dog when I was child, but that's a long time ago.
Bruce, I think I failed to hit "post" after spell checking the first time. Thanks for offering to help me get the hang of this !
DR elmore, I'm an audience member only. I work for the government. As for Brent's new CD, I picked up the package from the post office today and am listening to it now--I love it so far! Kudos to Bruce and to you!
Kevin
-
Are you feeling better, Larry?
My voice is still very shaky - I speak in several registers - and my cough won't go away. Otherwise I feel good.
It could be puberty.
-
DR cillaliz are you and your mom still watching DANCING WITH THE STARS?
Who are each of your favorites? (donny osmond? Joanna? Mya? Kelly
osbourne? aaron carter?).
i have to say i actually like them all. I think Mya is the best dancer. But i've never voted for
her. Something about her cocky attitude rubs me the wrong way. I think kelly is the
worst of those left. I have grown to like joanna. Her dancing the past few weeks
has really impressed me. And i really like derek (her partner). And donny osmond
has been great!
-
DR DAW, O pensive one, were you the dear reader who had asked about Kay Thompsn recordings? I just saw this on Amazon.com and thought of you.
Couldn't you just watch Liza's act instead?
-
Well, I'm tired now. With no DR DAW or MBarnum around to kick, life has lost its joy.
-
Are you feeling better, Larry?
My voice is still very shaky - I speak in several registers - and my cough won't go away. Otherwise I feel good.
Thank you, DR Dr.
There's a spell check? Oy.
Yesterday I was in Sacramento, and here are a few photos of the airport.
-
Back from lunch and a long, involved discussion about this here site. We're going to move very slowly, but over the next few months we're going to do some major work - new sections, a partial new design, better search capabilities. In the meantime, it looks like we're being asked to upgrade the discussion board software again to the latest version. Before I click THAT particular button, they have to assure me that the important things, like avatars and archives will not be affected - that everything will work exactly the same. As long as they assure me of that, we'll do the upgrade, which, as I understand it, will involve a slightly new look for the board.
Please don't change the web address while I am in Europe. I always hate it when friends move without telling me where. :P
-
I know why I'm feeling so jittery. I've been hanging around this computer all afternoon waiting for a jerk vendor to send me an eBay invoice to pay him. I have no patience.
-
Good Evening!
I ended up having to leave my apartment earlier since I was starting to feel a bit dizzy and queasy. Apparently, everyone in my 'hood was having their furnace oil tanks refilled this morning. At first I thought it was just my apartment building, but then I remembered that that was done last week. Then when I opened the doors to the back patio and stepped outside... Whoa! The smell of heating oil was overwhelming.
Thankfully, once I was a couple of blocks away, I started to feel better. A lot better.
-
Welcome, KevinH!
-
And while I was out and about - and breathing non-heating-oil-infused fresh air - I happened to run into the hunky as ever, Matt Bogart. We had a nice brief catch-up chat. -DR elmore - He and Jess(ica) just bought a new place - You're going to be neighbors! Their new place is a block south of yours.
And then when I reached Lincoln Center, I happened to accidentally stalk the concert pianist, Leif Ove Andsnes. It really was kind of freaky. We just seemed to be "coincidentally wandering" for about 20 minutes throughout the Lincoln Center campus. I think he was heading to The Met tonight for Le Damnation de Faust. -He's in town this week for a presentation of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" at Avery Fisher Hall.
-
Hello again--
Let me start over! My name is Kevin and I live in the Washington DC area.
I think I first heard of HHW through a link on allthatchat.com. I later realized that Bruce was the same Bruce Kimmel who had produced all those CDs that feature Brent Barrett (my favorite male singer). Little did I know that Brent was often discussed here and even has a nickname (WSMA)!
I think it's amazing that Bruce has managed to write on his site every single night for 8 years-it really must be a record. And you're a great group of people. I really enjoy the behind-the-scenes show biz information provided by Bruce and elmore. And at first I did think that some of you were doctors !
I can't promise to post as often as some of you. One probem is that I can't see Bruce's current notes on my work computer, so I don't know what some of the DRs are referring to. I usually read Bruce's notes in the evening. I don't think I can complain to the computer guy since it's not exactly work-related!
Thanks for welcoming me Laura and elmore and Happy Anniverary to HHW!
Kevin
DR KevinH, are you invovled in music or theatre or are you happy being an audience member? What kind of work do you do? When I signed on originally it was to post every once in a while and, like other DRs, I found I was happy sharing gossip and bitchery with a lot of wonderful folk I enjoy communicating with every day.
I assume you know that Brent has a new recording currently released only on the Kritzerland site, and it's getting good word-of-mouth.
It is wonderful!
Most readers are identified. If you are not, please point yourself out in the photo. Some readers came in drag which added to the merriment!
There was music, scintillating conversation, bitch slapping, and revealing of secrets. Just another day at HHW! ;D
Ah, and the dinner afterwards........ SIGH............
Welcome to New Dear Reader, KevinH!
So... Is there a chance that you may have heard me play at Arena Stage, Ford's Theatre, the Kennedy Center, the National Theater, Signature Theatre, etc., etc., etc. ;)
But don't forget to the after-party.... Oh... Well... Umm... Nevermind.
::)
I shall now be on my way to the Dale of Glen to see Fade Out, Fade In.
-
Are you feeling better, Larry?
My voice is still very shaky - I speak in several registers - and my cough won't go away. Otherwise I feel good.
Thank you, DR Dr.
Well, you have already gone through second childhood...............
Excellent! I love Matt.
I wouldn't know Mr Andsnes if he ran into me, but i do like his playing.
DR JRand - Thanks for posting this photo. -I've lost track of my own copy. I still wish I had been able to track down my 16-string mandolin - the one I played when I was in Bayanihan (http://www.bayanihannationaldanceco.ph/) - for "picture day". However, I guess my old Yamaha FG-45 fit the bill, and it even looks like a full-size guitar in the picture. I guess that old adage of "the camera adds ten pounds" applies to musical instruments too.
I haven't seen any celebrities around town lately but I have been in quarantine. Last week I thought I saw Michael Phelps but I wasn't really certain it was he.
I like that DR DtM and I are holding the BIG OARS. :)
You mean fondling.
I believe they prefer the term "caressing".
-
Guess I'd better shave. It's been a few days.
And I suppose your hair is still in curlers! How many bon-bons have you eaten today, my dear?
I believe DR DAW was referencing his legs.
I hope.
-
Thanks DR TCB!
And DR JoseSPiano, I've been to all of the venues listed, so I may have seen/heard you! Have you performed at the Signature Theatre recently?
Kevin
That's too big a word for DR DAW. "Stroking" is a much better choice.
Not since the donkey died.
I've learned so much from Larry, such a generous soul who is always sharing wonderful music
Whoever this is, please ask them to sign up and start posting! ;D
Sorry, I meant to say I've learned so much from that hardboiled jaded really homely old whore, Larry.
DR edisaurus - When talking about "Larry", there's no additional need to qualify him with the use of "hardboiled jaded really homely old whore". It's basically redundant.
-
DR Jose is a star in the DC area!
-
How sweet of you, DR Jane, to bake us a cake and cookies for our special day!!! :D
And she is going to deliver each one of them personally to our individual homes.
:D I wish.
This cake batter was delicious. Now that it is baked it looks & smells yummy. I've got the cookies in the oven & am about to make the citrus topping for the cake. I hope it reheats ok tomorrow.
I'm baking late cuz I forgot to leave out the butter to soften last night. Instead of baking this morning I cleaned & took Sherlock for a walk (no hiking so he stays clean). I'm glad I went early, it began to rain as we were driving home.
Back to work. I don't really want to make the sauce-lol.
That's ok, you can post and read the notes later :)
My son & his wife recently moved to MD. They are looking for work in the DC area. I think it is a beautiful place to live.
-
Welcome, new Dear Reader Kevin! Do you like Cherry Coke?
-
DR Jose, get back here and tell KevinH what shows you've done in DC. All I can think of are the Sondheim Festival and CHILDREN OF EDEN!
-
Thanks DR TCB!
And DR JoseSPiano, I've been to all of the venues listed, so I may have seen/heard you! Have you performed at the Signature Theatre recently?
Kevin
It's been a couple of years since I've played in a pit for Signature. I believe my last show there was Passion. It's actually been a few years since I've worked in DC. My last show at Arena was She Loves Me, and I was also with the Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center.
Which government agency do you work for? -If you care to reveal such details.
-
Hmmm, our son is looking for work with the government, or a non-profit company;)
Is it too soon to tease you about that?
-
Well, the board ate my posts. I was welcoming DR KEVINH to HHW, among other things. So, welcome, Kevin!
-
DR elmore - You called? ;D ::)
-
DR Jose is a star in the DC area!
Yup. I had the good luck to have lunch with him at a fantastic restaurant. I'm sure he will remember the name and location. I just remember he picked me up at the Library of Congress.
-
Congrats to JRAND on his new milestone/millstone!
And I LOVE the group picture. My mother wore a middy blouse in her high school graduation photo. I believe I borrowed it for our HHW get-together. (She never threw anything out.)
-
Thanks DR TCB!
And DR JoseSPiano, I've been to all of the venues listed, so I may have seen/heard you! Have you performed at the Signature Theatre recently?
After my tease I was afraid to ask where the workplace is :)
She Loves Me, I saw that! :)
-
DR elmore - You called? ;D ::)
You've been called plenty of things! I didn't see your name at the top when I posted that and I wanted you to tell our new DR KevinH what work you'd done in DC.
What's this DC FOLLIES gossip? Eric's going to prevent FOLLIES now?
-
I would ask DR KevinH if he likes casino carpets, but I'm afraid he'd think I'd odd.
-
Traditional 9th wedding anniversary presents have a theme of Pottery and Willow.
A contemporary or modern 9th anniversary present has a theme of Leather.
The flowers associated with the 9th anniversary are Poppies
Should we tell Jayson that you are hoping for leather this holiday?
Something tells me the last thing that DR DAW needs is any more leather goods.
-
Again, WELCOME DR KevinH!!!
Off to make the citrus sauce or I shall be up all night.
-
Oh, poor DS Zach! Is he doing better now, DR JMK?
-
I would ask DR KevinH if he likes casino carpets, but I'm afraid he'd think I'd odd.
ROTFLOL! You might need to explain for fetish for them now, or if he has been lurking long enough he knows. :)
-
We'll find our way home yet!
Happy HHW!
-
Hmmm, I dunno about Follies in DC. -I don't read the boards, so... However, Signature has already done Follies, but I guess he could do it again. ???
-
I think it's time for some Nyquil to blast me into unconsciousness. I am not sleeping well with this cough.
I also don't think that jerk vendor is going to send me an invoice tonight.
-
What a wonderful HHW photo of us all! We all look so young and gay!
I am certainly glad I remembered to wear my best shirt that day.
DR MBarnum - Thankfully, your kurta was "lost" at the dry cleaners that morning.
Laura, if Kevin's been lurking and he's now joined us he must LIKE odd.
I would ask DR KevinH if he likes casino carpets, but I'm afraid he'd think I'd odd.
But you are, Blanche!
-
Back from a truly pointless AAUW program about chemistry - I should have stayed here at the anniversary party or gone to Miami University in Oxford to hear David McCullough speak. Oh, well, at least I'm home in time to watch Trauma with my family.
Had you two met at the time?
-
My niece was feeling a bit better today. But in the afternoon she had a fever again (101F). She was also blowing yucky colors from her nose.
The thing is since so few people have had the H1N1 shot, there is not a lot of good info here about the side effects to the shot. so nobody my sis called knows if the fever could last this long. or if it is now related to a cold.
DR Jennifer - A friend of mine happened to develop a cold and strep throat a day or two after getting the flu shot. Hopefully, your niece isn't dealing with a similar situation.
-
Welcome, new DR KevinH!
Not any more than the rest of us!
DR Jose is a star in the DC area!
Yup. I had the good luck to have lunch with him at a fantastic restaurant. I'm sure he will remember the name and location. I just remember he picked me up at the Library of Congress.
The fantastic restaurant in question is Zaytinya (http://www.zaytinya.com/) in DC's Penn Quarter. It's part of Jose Andres' Think Food Group (http://thinkfoodgroup.com/) mini-empire.
And, yes, we had met previously during the inaugural HHW Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating Tour.
Is it true that they may revive CARRIE on Broadway?
Thanks for the airport photos, Laura DR! :)
But if they try to fix it, it won't be the cult smash that people go to see precisely because it's so bad.
-
DR Edisaurus - it is so wonderful to have you back here on a more regular basis. :)
Now all we need is a big ole staircase, a red sequin dress and some dancing waiters.
-
Is it true that they may revive CARRIE on Broadway?
Hmm... I believe I may have self-incriminated myself many times over through the course of my last couple of posts.
Now who wants some chicken?
::)
:-X
-
I think it's time for my Nyquil and a little tv.
-
Well, I know several survivors so I'm saying no more.
By the time I met him, I was too old to be a "survivor".
-
I have to say the people here have become family to me...no, better than family. I love coming here every day and just hanging out with everyone. It really does feel like being in BKs livingroom. My favorite moments have been the get togethers. From the first moment I saw DR Jane and DH Keith on the way to my first HHW get together at JMKs house in Portland - I knew I was right about this place, it is full of good people who genuinely care about each other.
I decided that day to go to New York where i was lucky enough to be there for Jose's Walking and Eating tour. The NYC get togethers have been great and of course dinner with BK in LA was wonderful.
Even through the ups and downs, this is the best place on the internet. I love you all.
-
Maybe I should take some Nyquil too?
-
Are you referring to Young Playwrights?
-
I DO think that they are all wearing pointy party hats today, however.
(http://www.cfadorchester.com/images/party-cows01.jpg)
I like that photo. ;D
Hmmm.. Chik-fil-A... :)
-
DR Jennifer, I'm not a big fan of Mya, it doesn't seem like she really wanted to win, but maybe that's just her personality. I think I like Kelly and Donny the best. Just me.
Hey, DR LAURA-----DONNY IS STILL DANCING!
Welcome to new DR KevinH!!
-
Hoo and ray!
-
Or, "Are you blaming me because Jose is a lesbian"?
Just to second the record straight (so to speak):
-I only own one flannel shirt.
-I have driven a U-Haul once, but it was an automatic.
-I have a toolbox, but not a tool-belt.
-And I am in no way attracted to DR JMK in that way. -Not that there's anything wrong with that.
;D
-
Hmm... I believe I may have self-incriminated myself many times over through the course of my last couple of posts.
Well, you certainly drove KevinH away!
-
I'm telling you!
Umm... It's: And I am telling you....
-
Welcome New D(ear)R(eader) Kevin!! ;D
-
Indeed, "BA" (whom some DRs also know) described "the dungeon" in great detail to me once. And he should know. :)
-
Jane, Zach is OK, not great. His fever spikes, then returns to normal. I, on the other hand, am suddenly feeling quite stuffed up and sneezy. Oy.
-
Happy Anniversary!
It was an endurance test.
-
It was an endurance test.
Just like... Oh.... Um....
Next topic?
-
Has anyone here seen or read Noel Coward's "Hay Fever"? I think we're all kind of like the Bliss family and anyone coming into it needs real nerve.
I do hope DR KevinH stays with us. We need some new members who can tolerate our eccentricities.
-
I just took enough Nyquil to bring down an elephant. This weekend the neighbor above me had another hot date and two rounds of really squeaky bed springs between 2 am and 8 am last Saturday night/Sunday morning. There wasn't enough Nyquil in the world to let me sleep through that.
-
DR TCB, DR KevinH has returned, I am happy to see. He probably went off to collect his various and sundry programmes to find if our DRJose was in the pit.
-
I am a frenzy. Someone, intervene!
-
I have to go read the mail; I got a check, which was nice, and several catalogues, including the Oxford University Press Holiday sale. I want to buy the Grove Encyclopedia of Opera if they're offering a good sale price.
-
I think it's time for some Nyquil to blast me into unconsciousness. I am not sleeping well with this cough.
I also don't think that jerk vendor is going to send me an invoice tonight.
Are you sleeping, or not sleeping, elevated?
-
DR Ginny, sorry you had a disappointing evening.
-
DR Jose is a star in the DC area!
Yup. I had the good luck to have lunch with him at a fantastic restaurant. I'm sure he will remember the name and location. I just remember he picked me up at the Library of Congress.
Had you two met at the time?
Yes. I think this was the last year I was at the NIH. I didn't make it to NY that year & stayed a couple of extra days to stay in DC & see the library & the sights.
-
DR Jose is a star in the DC area!
Yup. I had the good luck to have lunch with him at a fantastic restaurant. I'm sure he will remember the name and location. I just remember he picked me up at the Library of Congress.
The fantastic restaurant in question is Zaytinya (http://www.zaytinya.com/) in DC's Penn Quarter. It's part of Jose Andres' Think Food Group (http://thinkfoodgroup.com/) mini-empire.
And, yes, we had met previously during the inaugural HHW Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating Tour.
That was a day to never forget, absolutely wonderful!!!
-
I should also say I enjoyed seeing your play, and spending quiet time with you in DC. Also a special day.
-
Hmm... I believe I may have self-incriminated myself many times over through the course of my last couple of posts.
He is still here :D
I loved the walking and eating tour and also loved the walking through Central Park then walking and walking and walking and walking and walking to Serendipity
-
Jane, Zach is OK, not great. His fever spikes, then returns to normal. I, on the other hand, am suddenly feeling quite stuffed up and sneezy. Oy.
Oy. VIBES TO YOU ALL. Tell DW Betsey I said hello & she must not catch this too.
-
DR Laura, did you ever hear if cillaliz got adopted?
-
I have had too much sugar tonight from tasting the batters & cookies. This is why I need to bake in the morning. I'm never going to sleep & I need my energy tomorrow.
-
I didn't hear, Cillaliz. I presume she did. She was certainly not unadoptable.
Well, I'll just believe she's in a nice home being spoiled rotten!
-
DR Jose: unfortunately, I didn't see the shows you listed. As for other questions, I don't drink Cherry Coke and never really thought about casino carpets!
Well, much as I hate to leave, I'm afraid it's off to bed for me. Thanks to all for such a fun first day of posting!
Kevin
-
My favorite HHW get-together was when BK came up to Portland to do readings from his books and we had almost the entire PNW HHW contingent together at one time! That was great! ;D
-
I have physical therapy at 1:oo; I cancelled on Friday because I had completely lost my voice and felt like going nowhere but to bed. Speaking of bed, I have to make mine. And look online for a new quilt or comforter.
DR elmore - Couldn't you just walk down to the corner and take a look in Laytner's?
If you do want to go the online route, I'd check out QVC's house-brand of comforters, Northern Lights. -I think they're still made. I really, really like mine and the quality and prices are very competitive.
-
I believe I may have self-incriminated myself many times over through the course of my last couple of posts.
Oh, don't worry about that, dear. Now, please speak a little more loudly into this microphone...
-
Time to head home and watch some TV...and eat...and pet my cat...and ketchup on HHW...and then go to sleep.
Until later!
Laytner's has nothing. I stopped there on my way to physical therapy.
I've read the mail. The Grove Encyclopedia of Opera is on sale for $150 and that's a really good price. I also found some Civil War books for my brother Randy for Christmas. I thought I might find soemthing on Shakespeare for Charlotte but i think the books they're selling this year I bought for her last Christmas.
-
With the current state of your voice, DR elmore3003, if you were to sing "Happy Birthday" to HHW, you might sound like Marilyn Monroe! :D
Miss Monroe sings on pitch.
She used to sing "Old Black Magic" in the Mercer doc, but...well...someone on high thought it made her look like a bad singer. Same person who wanted to take out Audrey singing "Moon River". Maybe he thought his offspring sang it better? To the director's credit, we got to keep Audrey. Oy...
Anyone with a lick of sense should know that Marilyn was singing "in character" with all the hopelessly pathetic toe-stabbing to change her own lighting. One of the most memorable scenes from ANY of her films.
Well, there's always Macy's. -Sometimes it's worth the craziness.
-
Welcome to our newest DR KevinH!
And I've been so tickled to see that our HHW managerie (pigs, chickens, and cows) have come out for the anniversary and to greet our new member.
-
DR MattH - Did you receive THIS (http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/09/things-publicists-send-us-up-and-away/?src=twt&twt=artsbeat) version of the screener for "Up"? ;)
-
I have to run down to Toyland this week. I can stop at Macy's on the way.
-
I got the rest of the DOWNHILL RACER bonus features watched and listened to (Michael Ritchie's audio-only seminar at the AFI was over an hour long).
-
I want cake or cookies. But I don't have any
No, but I wish I had. I know some kids who would love to have had that!
-
I went back to the DVR and skimmed through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Kyle and FIsh had an aborted date (rats!), but it was still an interesting episode.
-
I skimmed through today's ATWT, but there was nothing of interest and nothing in the previews either.
-
Next came last night's MAD MEN season finale. I love the set-up for next season. Should be a good one. They need to bring Sal back for the new agency! I was sure that's where they would go after they tried to get into the art department and had to break in.
-
Next I watched last week's episode of THE OFFICE. Some pretty funny stuff, and some pretty typical Michael stuff which didn't play as funny as they thought it was.
-
Page Sixteen Dance!!!
I had dinner there with John Kalbfleisch!
And Richard and I had a delightful lunch there after the American Library Association conference in 2007!
-
I concluded my evening watching Friday's night's MONK episode. It was OK entertainment, but the mystery plots have really become threadbare.
-
Welcome to new DR KEVIN H.
DR ELMORE I have never seen Hay Fever - but I have experienced it.
-
Watched an early film from Mr Peter Sellers entitled NEVER LET GO.....starring Richard Todd. It is a sort of English noir with Sellers as the villain. Quite entertaining.....with a supporting performance by Adam Faith.
-
Our Man From Havana is starting on TCM. I haven't seen it since I got the CD!
-
DR Elmore - what about Bed, Bath & Beyond for your comforter? There's one near Lincoln Center and one in Chelsea.
-
DR TCB - HAPPY ANNVERSARY is my favorite Mitzi Gaynor performance....she plays a wife and mother - although saddled with David Niven doing his English silly ass schtick - but she is quite natural, sexy, and very funny.
I think the play was a long running Broadway comedy - and in fact it looks like some of the set pieces were used a few years later when United Artists was filming "The Patty Duke Show" - Patty plays the young daughter who spills the beans about her parents' arguments on a television show.....funny stuff.
And Mitzi is great!
-
Whew - searching for Mitzi in Happy Anniversary - and came upon this clip that has left me speechless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8kNs1mw4cI
-
Happy Anniversary to BK and allof us here at HHW and thank you thank you thank you to BK for creating this here site and allowing the likes of me to be part of it
Iwill always treasure the outpouring of concern and support that was shown to me and mine during this past year particularly the kindnesses shown to my Vixter
This site and the lovely people that frequent it have truly has been blessings to me
-
Other favorite memories - although all of our get togethers have been wonderful - the Famous Jose led walking and eating tour was definitely a highlight!!
-
Having three, count 'em Three, of our DRs in the NYMF at the same time
-
Cheering Jose and Larry's contributions to Broadway
-
and now I shall Ketchup as I am probably repeating what others have said better
-
Whew - searching for Mitzi in Happy Anniversary - and came upon this clip that has left me speechless.
Umm... Umm... Hmmm.... Well.... And.... Yeah... So.... Uh.... ????
-
Tomorrow, unless something more urgent arrives in the mail, I'll be starting on another TV box set. This will be the Blu-ray edition of SCRUBS -Season 8.
I dropped the show about three years ago, so it'll be fun seeing what changes (if any) have transpired since I've been away from it.
-
Now I'm going to tidy up a few things on my computer desktop and then head downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
And speaking of speechless...
Fresh Balls (https://www.freshballs.com/)
::)
-
Ummm... I guess I did scare everyone off tonight...
-
And now... I guess it's sort of appropriate that I am going to be a WUSSBURGER and get ready for bed now. Me sleep already.
Thanks again for a wonderful partay!
Hopefully, there will be some leftover chunks of ham and cheese for my morning omelet.
Goodnight.
-
I don't think I will order that, but thanks for bringing it to our attention DR JOSE.
My thoughts exactly.....when Jane Withers walked in, the clip went right into the Twilight Zone.
-
Bed time for Bonzo.
-
Welcome To new DR Kevin H!
-
I am very sleepy. That is all
-
OK, I've watched TRAUMA, part 1 of the CSI trilogy, and the Mitzi Gaynor video - oh...my. I don't think even the local production of COMPANY that I was in 30 years ago was that bad. Or, maybe, the director had seen the MG version and used it for a model.
No, we really weren't THAT bad. And our costumes were better.
-
'night, everybody, and on to year 9!
-
HEALTH VIBES to Elmore, ZACH, JMK and Ginny's foot
-
I would also like to thank Skip and FJL for hosting so very many wonderful dinners for HHW at their lovely home
-
and now it is bed time- good night and God bless!!!
-
Amazing how much the young Jerry Orbach looks like current L&O star Jeremy Sisto, though.
-
Here is the official photo from the 9th Annual HHW Anniversary Gala and Musicale.
Most readers are identified. If you are not, please point yourself out in the photo. Some readers came in drag which added to the merriment!
There was music, scintillating conversation, bitch slapping, and revealing of secrets. Just another day at HHW! ;D
DR JRand - Thanks for posting this photo. -I've lost track of my own copy. I still wish I had been able to track down my 16-string mandolin - the one I played when I was in Bayanihan (http://www.bayanihannationaldanceco.ph/) - for "picture day". However, I guess my old Yamaha FG-45 fit the bill, and it even looks like a full-size guitar in the picture. I guess that old adage of "the camera adds ten pounds" applies to musical instruments too.
To quote Miss K--You so funny! Me love you long time!
-
And I LOVE the group picture. My mother wore a middy blouse in her high school graduation photo. I believe I borrowed it for our HHW get-together. (She never threw anything out.)
I believe Jose also has a midi, and JMK and others...
-
I loved the walking and eating tour and also loved the walking through Central Park then walking and walking and walking and walking and walking to Serendipity
Serendipity, is that where the donuts were? I forget.
-
[Anyone with a lick of sense...
'
Precisely my point.
-
Welcome to HHW DR KevinH! I think you will like it here.
The Very Thought of You...
You're still thinking about John Barrowman and the cake?
When I think of John Barrowman I think of him and that special hamburger
-
And what am I doing up so late/early???
I don't know why, but I awoke from a dead sleep and its only 1:30 or so
-
the reason why i've scarce lately is that i have going through a health scare that I thought may have been the c word. Doctors tell you there is a problem and give results, but don't tell you enough about the situation. Therefore to fill in the gaps; you go online and you read things you shouldn't without all the proper info to begin with.
-
I'm as big as a house in that picture. I was at least forty pounds heavier than now.
-
Do not be scared of the C word until there is reason to be. Until someone tells you something concrete you do not have it.
-
Back from Fade Out, Fade In, a very strange musical comedy. I shall now go write Ye Olde Notes.
