From my perspective, Subway has several major hurdles that will be hard to overcome. First, they don't typically have drive-through service, which is so popular during breakfast hours. (Who gets up early enough to go inside for a leisurely breakfast? I suspect most Egg McMuffins are consumed on the freeway during the drive to work, in between checking e-mail and applying makeup.)

Checking e-mail while driving - the writer must go on drive-alongs with our esteemed host.

As far as the new disaster film "2012" is concerned, the world will end with both a bang and a whimper, the bang of undeniably impressive special effects and the whimper of inept writing and characterization. You pays your money, you takes your chances.
In fact, it's hard to say what leaves the more lasting impression, how realistically director Roland Emmerich has destroyed Los Angeles (it's the third try, after "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow," practice apparently making perfect) or how difficult a time the actors have bringing any life to the script by Emmerich and Harald Kloser.
Nothing, not even a season of Shakespeare at Stratford-upon-Avon, will give you more respect for how difficult it is to be an actor than watching top talent like John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt struggling to treat the film's ungodly language and situations with perfect seriousness.
The deeper truth, of course, is that it doesn't really matter and everyone with a hand in "2012" knows as much. Audiences with a hankering for the apocalypse shrug off the ridiculous and sit tight for the special effects. In this case, they are worth the wait.

FIRST U.S. MARIJUANA CAFE OPENS IN PORTLAND
PORTLAND, Oregon — The United States' first marijuana cafe opened on Friday, posing an early test of the Obama administration's move to relax policing of medical use of the drug.
The Cannabis Cafe in Portland, Oregon, is the first to give certified medical marijuana users a place to get hold of the drug and smoke it — as long as they are out of public view — despite a federal ban.
"This club represents personal freedom, finally, for our members," said Madeline Martinez, Oregon's executive director of NORML, a group pushing for marijuana legalization.
"Our plans go beyond serving food and marijuana," said Martinez. "We hope to have classes, seminars, even a Cannabis Community College , based here to help people learn about growing and other uses for cannabis."
The cafe — in a two-story building which formerly housed a speak-easy and adult erotic club Rumpspankers — is technically a private club, but is open to any Oregon residents who are NORML members and hold an official medical marijuana card.
…
"I still run a coffee shop and events venue, just like I did before we converted it to the Cannabis Cafe, but now it will be cannabis-themed," said Eric Solomon, the owner of the cafe, who is looking forward to holding marijuana-themed weddings, film festivals and dances in the second-floor ballroom.
I bet there’s a real market for a rural venue with an Olympic Pool to host cannabis themed Bar-Mitzvahs!

TOD:
The one tune that immediately comes to mind is "Pennsylvania Polka" by The Andrews Sisters.
I guess that makes me pretty old.
-
Now I will be thinking of Andrews Sisters harmonies all day. There are worse things!
They are a favorite girl group of mine as well.
The Supremes of course had several great records.....Baby Love and Stop! In the Name of Love are a couple of my favorites.
But if I had to choose a FAVORITE girl group, which the TOD asks us to do.....it would be The McGuire Sisters. Their version of "Sincerely" is one of my favorite tunes.
-
And now I am off to work. Oh well.
-
Actually, DR JRand59, the TOD is Girl Group SONGS. But I'm sure either would be fine. :)

Martha and the Vandellas - "Heat Wave" and "Jimmy Mack"
The Supremes - "You Can't Hurry Love"

I will definitely be doing JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, the only one of the Kevin Smith films in the Blu-ray set that I haven't seen before. And I've had the two-disc special edition DVD sitting on my to-watch shelf for three or four years and never got around to it. Now, best friend John will inherit that.
BTW, that special DVD edition has a ton of bonus features that were not ported over to the Blu-ray. I'm sure that didn't make fans of the movie very happy.
-
I happened to catch a little of GIGI on TCM-HD yesterday. They did not use the Blu-ray encode for the film in that presentation. It was clearly an upconverted standard definition image that was being presented. I know bk was not a fan of GIGI on Blu-ray, but it is a masterpiece transfer compared to the smeary sludge that TCM showed yesterday in HD.
-
Looking forward to watching SUPERNATURAL while I eat lunch today. And since JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKES BACK is a relatively short movie (less than two hours), I should have some time tonight to watch some other things for fun, too.
-
Good Morning.
TOD: The first song that comes to mind is "Foolish Little Girl" by the Shirelles (I think). There are lots of these songs that I like, and many that I like better, but that is popped into this tired brain.

In other news...
I ended up spending a good chunk of yesterday afternoon trying to take care of a rather "frustrating" situation. Thankfully, after a couple of hours of running around - and stressing out - I was able to fix said situation - at least temporarily. Just as I was wrapping things up, a friend called and invited me to dinner with some other friends... Which was just what I needed after dealing so much agita. And after a nice dinner, some sparking conversation, as well as a few glasses of a port, I felt that I should go right to bed and get some sleep. And I did. Eight hours laters... Ahhhh... :)

Good morning, all! I slept later than I meant to, but I'm susing my cld as a justification. I have my usual work on the table: Moross, Kern, and two acts of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA. First thing, I have to send an email turning down a job; much as I want to do the show, the deadlines and pay don't make it possible.
I am floored to learn the identity of Amicus Curiae. I would also like to know theidentity of pgenre, who, it appears, occasionally puts in a lurk here as well as posting on AllThatChat.
Girl groups: The Boswell Sisters, The Andrews Sisters, The Supremes
One of my mother's brothers dated Phyllis McGuire in high school, I forget which one now. While the McGuire Sisters bios always refer to Miamisburg, OH, since their mother had a church there, Middletown is never mentioned and the ladies went to Middletown High. When I was growing up, the McGuire Sisters were paragons on Middletown's fine youth succeeding in the wordl. All that changed after Phyllis got mixed up with the mafia.

One of the first songs that pops into my head is "Aurora" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KoppS8TIjc) as sung by the Andrew Sisters... As well as an over-dubbed Michelle Nicastro. ;)

"Stop! In The Name of Love" by the Supremes.

It isn't always, DR DAW; sometimes it's very easy to turn something down that you don't want to do. Most CostCo's I've been to will let you in the door to browse. If the greeter does not let you in, then s/he usually directs you to the membership desk - then you can walk around the warehouse with an application in hand. They also used to let you buy things there without a membership, but they would charge you a 5-10% fee. However... I know a number of NYCers who already have a CostCo membership - they usually shop in Jersey or in Brooklyn.

I stopped by the adoption bus today and met the adoption coordinator. She said Michael and Charlie got adopted right away last weekend. Ginny is going to the senior center event this weekend (since she is such a lap cat). If she doesn't get adopted there, she'll go to the pet shop where gray cats get snapped up right away.
The last batch all went to the pet shop, where they stay until they are adopted, and indeed Cillaliz, Elmore, and Antonia were adopted several weeks ago.
Kittens Wally and George will go to a special event on December 3 where all the people looking for pets make very good money.

Actually, the "post" at Broadway world -- one AmicusJusticiae -- was written by an individual with a birthdate of June 19. Look at your birthday calendar. DR Ron and DR Jose - you may both be right. I've been to a CostCo before, so I know what it's all about, and it's great. My point was that this is probably a new model for them --- to open up a buy in huge quantity bulk type shopping destination, in an area where people neither own cars nor have likely (for the most part) travelled to another borough to buy their groceries. Not only do people not have cars to get their purchases home, but they don't have the luxury of storage space to hold all these bulk items in their apartments. So I think it will be very interesting to see if people are able to find a way to make this work for them.
I doubt that a lot of people who live outside of Manhattan and own cars will routinely drive into the City in order to be able to shop at this particular Costco, instead of the one closer to their home. I was thinking that since this is a new thing for the people in Manhattan, and that we have an unusual set of circumstances (no car, no space at home) that most other areas of the country don't deal with, they may encounter greater resistance in getting many people to pay $50 for a membership up front, before seeing if it will actually work for them on a regular basis. They may actually do better giving people something like a free two time pass, so people can try it out free the first couple of times and see if it works for them.

So are you saying the post was by DR Beckon, whomever that may be?
Have no idea...

Great news about the adopted kittens, DR Laura.
-
re: costco. There are actually plenty of things that you can buy there that aren't in bulk.
They have great deals on clothes, books, scrapbooking supplies. And even a lot of the food is not in bulk.
It will be interesting to see how it works in NYC. But it is huge here.
-
Costco and Sam's are really big here, too. I never have understood paying so much for the privilege of shopping somewhere.
-
So it costs $50 to get a membership card to Costco to be able to get inside the door? Good luck to them in Manhattan. They are going to need to come up with some free trial membership, I suspect.
CostCo is a phenomenon, like Sam's Club. They needn't worry. Folks will be knocking one another over trying to get in the door.
Not only do people not have cars to get their purchases home, but they don't have the luxury of storage space to hold all these bulk items in their apartments.
I may be able to offer over 8000 sf of storage space to these people. :)
I think you just stumbled upon a new start up business idea. I'm ready for my next roll of paper towels. Please send quickly. ;D

Since I am "publicly" accused of posting on another site with another name, I feel that you need to know (Do you really?) that Amicus something and I are two (2) different people.
I have other things to do in life than "bashing" BK on the internet ...
That's all I'll say and that's all you need to know.
Bk, has received from me a PRIVATE message about this all silly situation.

DR Jane - Thank You for the update on DR Danise. Even though she may be "homeless" at this point, it is good to know that she has a (hotel) roof over her head.
In our days and times, it would be quite horrible to know that she has to sleep under a bridge, even though bridges are rare in Florida!
And BK thinks he has problems!
Unfortunately, he's not the only one!

The Ronettes version of "Sleigh Ride".
"Stop! In The Name of Love" by the Supremes.
The "Hallelujah Chorus" as sung by The Roches (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEtSkJDA61g).
I know I'll get reprimanded for saying so ... (One more today! Who cares!) but it's

There were only two candidates for the post at B'wayworld - 3D Diffusion and Francois. Since Francois had written me a very similar e-mail I thought it was pretty obvious it was him. I acted as if I'D attacked that poor fellow - I just asked him if he'd read the post to which I responded where I was called names, and where the poster just made things very personal. I doubt I'll hear back.

Yes, I was born May 19, 1950 and I am not that Friend of Justice, if that is what that latin thing means!
Now, feel all free to believe what you want.
My life is shitty enough not to have to deal with such trivial matters!
Sorry if i am a nuisance to most of you but i believe i have been quite friendly with most of you, recently and in the past.

FYI, I don't have a lawyer; can't afford one.
But I sure can afford to get BK's products!

Hello, everyone.
I haven't much to say today.

For anyone interested:
I stopped by the adoption bus today and met the adoption coordinator. She said Michael and Charlie got adopted right away last weekend. Ginny is going to the senior center event this weekend (since she is such a lap cat). If she doesn't get adopted there, she'll go to the pet shop where gray cats get snapped up right away.
The last batch all went to the pet shop, where they stay until they are adopted, and indeed Cillaliz, Elmore, and Antonia were adopted several weeks ago.
Kittens Wally and George will go to a special event on December 3 where all the people looking for pets make very good money.
WONDERFUL NEWS!!!

TOD:
Growing up, there were many singers and many groups that I heard without thinking much about them. When I hear them now I sometimes have a new appreciation for them; and sometimes not. I only recall being vaguely aware of the McGuire Sisters at the time. But I was blown away after hearing them a few years ago (a PBS documentary?).

Anyone watching the British series TRIAL & RETRIBUTION? It's written by Lynda LaPlante (PRIME SUSPECT) and is equally riveting. It aired several years ago, but I believe it's new to DVD.

CostCo is a phenomenon, like Sam's Club. They needn't worry. Folks will be knocking one another over trying to get in the door.
I just talked to a friend who braved the "madhouse" at the new CostCo this morning. From what he could tell, it looked like most people already had memberships, but he said he did notice that a lot of people were also signing up.
As for cars and/or the lack thereof - he said the gypsy cabs were doing great business there. Those town cars can hold a lot of stuff. He also ran into a bunch of his neighbors from the UWS - who happen to have cars and storage space (almost) in their apartments and condos. He also noticed that some of the "bulk" items were not that bulky, so I guess they're customizing their inventory according to their clientele and area. -Which is sort of like what Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware have done with their special NYC-lines of furniture which are sized just a few inches smaller than regular "home-sized" furnishings.

In other late breaking news, Betsy also loves the house so we will be making an offer tomorrow. There's evidently a lot of interest in it so I'm trying to temper my emotions about it all.

DS Betsy is of course from Wisconsin and a lot of her routine last night was about growing up there. She does a killer Wisconsonian accent.

As far as the new disaster film "2012" is concerned, the world will end with both a bang and a whimper, the bang of undeniably impressive special effects and the whimper of inept writing and characterization. You pays your money, you takes your chances.
Audiences with a hankering for the apocalypse shrug off the ridiculous and sit tight for the special effects. In this case, they are worth the wait.
But, boy, will it sell tickets!
We shall be going for the special effects & John Cusack is a bonus.
Yes. He certainly is.

Francois did indeed write me and I take him at his word that it wasn't he who posted at B'wayworld. I'm hoping he'll stay with us. We've discussed his e-mail (which actually wasn't meant for me at all - which is the danger in e-mails). So, I looked up June 19 on OUR calendar and that was ozderek's birthday (unless I misread) - since he's no longer with us (and greatly missed) I don't think it was him. Whether it was his compatriot from Oz I don't know, although I'd find that highly doubtful. So, my strong guess would be 3D Diffusion, since that darling girl has done similar things on other boards, always with different usernames. She really must hang out here every single day and read the notes and the posts carefully. Scary. For her.
So apologies to Francois for jumping to the wrong conclusion - it was an understandable mistake because of the close proximity between the post and his e-mail.

I walked in last night without showing a card, which was good since I didn't have one. I think you should be able to go in, look around and then if you feel it's worth it, you join.
-

Lots of Johnny Mercer tributes to listen to!
Pardon My Southern Accent
Friday Night is Mercer Night is a special evening on Radio 2 celebrating the birth centenary of the great lyricist Johnny Mercer. In the first programme, the singer and actor Clarke Peters, explores the way in which Johnny Mercer's birthplace - Savannah, Georgia - influenced his songs.
Although Johnny Mercer found fame in Hollywood and on Broadway, he came from a very different background to most of his fellow songwriters. While they were often urban New Yorkers, Mercer was a country boy at heart and took every opportunity to go back to his beloved Savannah in the American South where he grew up. The images with which he was surrounded, such as moss, birds, pine trees, trains and of course deep rivers, made their way into songs like Moon River, Blues In The Night and Lazybones. His early experiences of African-American music and rhythms led him to an understanding of jazz idioms and an ability to mix the vernacular with the abstract in his work.
Clarke Peters tells the story of Mercer's earliest years in Savannah and how the place influenced him all through his life. There are new interviews with the singer Andy Williams, the lyricist Alan Bergman and the jazz pianist and singer Daryl Sherman, as well as Mercer's daughter Amanda and his niece Nancy. In addition there are voices from the archive including Mercer himself, Bing Crosby and Henry Mancini.

Live from The Mermaid
BBC Radio 2 celebrates the centenary of the birth of one of the great lyricists of our time - Johnny Mercer - with acclaimed American singer-songwriter and saxophonist Curtis Stigers presenting a special Friday Night Is Music Night, live from London's Mermaid Theatre.
Everybody knows a Mercer song - Lazybones, Hooray For Hollywood, Jeepers Creepers, Fools Rush In, Come Rain Or Come Shine, Moon River - to name just a few.
An all-star line-up from the world of musical theatre and TV - Sally Ann Triplett (Mamma Mia), Ruthie Henshall (Woman In White) , and Nigel Harman (Guys & Dolls / EastEnders) - and, of course, Curtis Stigers himself - will be bringing the Mercer songbook to life - with the help of the 70-piece BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Tony award-nominated Larry Blank.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ns19h
Manilow and Mercer
The final programme of Friday Night is Mercer Night sees the international superstar Barry Manilow present his own personal view of Johnny Mercer.
After the death of Johnny Mercer, his widow Ginger found a selection of his lyrics which appeared never to have been set to music. She approached Barry Manilow and asked him to compose melodies for them. Manilow's first song with the Mercer lyrics, When October Goes, has become a standard and many others have followed, recorded by the likes of Nancy Wilson, Monica Mancini and of course Manilow himself. Barry Manilow talks about the work he did to set the lyrics. We hear examples from recordings and others which have never before been released.
In addition, Barry Manilow tells the story of Mercer's later years and analyses how his genius developed. We hear about the way in which Mercer kept finding opportunities to write, even when the fashion for musical films was fading. There's a glimpse into Johnny Mercer's personal relationships, including an affair with Judy Garland. And there are insights into his final pieces of work and his last recordings.
New interviewees include the singer Andy Williams; the conductor and composer Andre Previn, who wrote a London stage musical with Mercer; and the lyricist Alan Bergman, to whom Mercer was a mentor.

-- Oooh, Ella's singing Mercer now on my computer!
Pure joy for the ears!
-
Not looking good for the Hawkeyes, but who knows, anything is possible
-
Thank you, François. I think I like this club.
-
Thank you for the Mercer links DR François.
-
Ohio State wins by 3 in overtime. At least it was a good game.
-
Sad day for Iowa but happy day for Ohio State fans
-
Thank you for the Mercer links DR François.
Thanks!
I don't know how much aware of those DR Brontosorus ( ::) ;)) is but I am listening to the first one and it's wunderbar!
So many interviews!
-
DR Cilla have a nice evening at home & feel better soon.
-
Thanks Julie and Jane. I'm hoping if I stay home and rest I won't get sick
-
And now I am listening to the luxurious strains of the BBC Concert Orchestra (My favourite radio Orchestra) playing Mercer songs and conducted by elmore's friend Larry Blank!
-
Good morning, all! I slept later than I meant to, but I'm susing my cld as a justification. I have my usual work on the
What the frell?
*I'm not even sure DR vixmom would understand that one. ;)
Isn't that a Rolling Stones song?
Hey!
You!
Stop susing my cld!

~~~DON'T GET SICK VIBES~~~
FOR DR CILLALIZ!!!!!!!!
I am having one bitch of a time trying to figure out how to download on a Mac videos from youtube!
TOD:
When I was a youngen and my older sisters were intensely into The Supremes, I became taken with a B side song, "I'm Going Down For The Third Time". I played that one incessantly, mainly because it reminded me of the music of my main favorite girl group of the time, Josie and The Pussycats.
The one current girl group that I can thing of is The Indigo Girls' "Galileo".
-
Thanks Julie and Jane. I'm hoping if I stay home and rest I won't get sick
Very wise move.
DR elmore3003 - check your email.
-
I am also glad to see DR francois is still posting here!
My cold has now turned into post nasal drip. i cannot believe that a nose can drip so much. But hopefully it will be gone tomorrow. But right now i feel crappy.
Although considering my sister's friend and her daughter are doing much worse, and this is only a cold, i shouldn't really complain.
-
And even though i have a cold i had to babysit my niece today. Hopefully since i got the cold from her, she won't get it again.
I tried not to touch her!
-
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but DeepDiscount.com has begun their 40% DVD sale. I don't have any sale codes yet, but more than likely they will accept BLUE, SUPERSALE or maybe even UNDERPANTS.
-
Underpants!
-
UNDERPANTS.
Underpants!
:D :D :D
-
~~~FEEL BETTER VIBES~~~
FOR DR JENNIFER!!!!!!!!

UNDERPANTS.

Are you both trying for discounts? Half off with UNDERPANTS?
-
Finished the blurb and everything else we need to announce - probably Tuesday or Wednesday at midnight. Advance announcement will probably be tomorrow midnight for you dear readers.
-
I am having one bitch of a time trying to figure out how to download on a Mac videos from youtube!
DR elmore3003 - check your email.
I even went to this site and I cannot even figure out the goddam instructions!

DtM and others, this is not the "usual" DDD sale. No code is required. This is 40% off MSRP. Their typical sale is an additional 20-30% off their already discounted prices. So it's not quite as good as it sounds, though it's good. I should know within a day or two whether the "real" sale is happening at a later date. My hunch is not.
-
The only problem with my Snuggie is that it's too long and I trip over it when I try to walk around in it.
-
DR MBarnum - I believe this video may help you gain a better appreciation of Opera... Or maybe just the singer... ;)
La Donna é Mobile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKxfYS2oilY)
;D
Indeed, I was able to appreciate his talent.
-

I always wondered if those were safe. ;)
-
Back to our daily hike before the autumn leaves are all gone ;)
-
DR Jane, I meant to mention a few days back that I did ineed recognize the hiking area you had posted photos of. Such a beatiful place and Dog Bosco and I hope to hike there again someday with you guys!
-
I sat down to watch my all time favorite western, THE OKLAHOMAN starring Joel McCrea, Barbara Hale, and Gloria Talbott. It just arrived from the Warner Brothers archive series. Dang if it didn't freeze up at the half hour mark!!!!! And just before Laurie Mitchell and Dorothy Neumann appear in their brief scenes!
-
DR MBarnum Sherlock & would love to have you join us at the trail. He just loves other dogs & Bosco is such a sweetie. Today was a dog filled day for him on the hike & he got to play with one of his favorite dogs out there.
-
Heading back down to the creek.
-
Eureka! It works. Thanks to DRs George and singdaw!
-
:)
-
Getting a drink of water. This is the crossing I had a bad fall on & am very lucky my face hit the water instead of the stones.
-
Crossing the creek again down the trail a wee bit.
-
The creek is down on our left.
-
Beautiful photos, Jane. Thanks.
-
Thanks for the compliment DR Laura. It is you who inspired me to begin taking photos.
-

There should be some sign put there now to celebrate the event!
(Go ahead, hate me! ;))
Oooh, now Barry M. sings "When October Goes" ...
I liked when Rosie sang that.
Nice pics, btw! Woof!
-
The creek is down on our left.
"Come on! I'm waiting for you!"
(Grrr! Those bipeds! :)
-
Oooh ... now it's "I Remember You". (Nancy Wilson's the singer, I think!)
-
Oooh! Producer Ken Barnes!
I believe that's the man DR Edisaurus was referring to the other day re: Bing Crosby!
http://www.johnnymercer.com/KenBarnes.htm
-
Thanks DR François
-
Thanks DR François
De nada!
-
Oooh, now Margaret Whiting is being interviewed!
-
Great photos DR Jane
-
Thank you DR Cillaliz.
-
DR Cillaliz - I'm so sorry about what Ohio State did this evening, but Iowa is to be commended for making them work for it!

Iowa was a 15 point underdog, so it was really great, even though they lost
-
Great photos, DR JANE.
If I learned nothing from yesterday - it's to keep my big mouth shut! But I will forget all about that by tomorrow.
-
House getting vibes for DR JMK.
-
Watching SABOTEUR on TCM.
-
With Stanzi, the star quarterback out for the season, the hopes were pretty low. Vanderberg, the freshman who was suddenly the starting quarterback, actually did an amazing job.

He sure did! I love anybody who challenges the Buckeyes like that!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
It was fun to watch the game. I was a die hard Hawkeye fan when I went to school there and for a number of years after I graduated. I'm not so much now, but am pleased that DR Samantha is enjoying the games and getting into the fun of living in a college town

Thanks & LOL
-
DR MBARNUM thanks for the link to the TCM Universal Cult Classics....depending on commissions tomorrow, I may invest.
I am going to watch a few more episodes of ADAM-12 tonight. In the last episode I watched Jim Reed and his wife Jeanne finally had their baby. It still kind of freaks me out that Kent McCord was the sturdy husband and Martin Milner was the swinging bachelor of the duo.

Sounds like she is happier these days and settling in. :)

Had a full evening of filmed entertainment.
I began by concentrating on my work project: JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. I had never seen it before, and it was disappointing. Obviously there was some fun in the midst of all the haphazard farce plotting and silliness. But on a $20 million budget, it just points up what an overproduced trifle it is (whereas CLERKS which was made for a pittance is so fresh and true.)
Quite a parade of guest stars throughout the film, some of whom weren't famous then but are now.
So, I found the film erratic and fairly unsatisfying, but I could understand fans of the two stoner lead characters might find their every move hilarious. I didn't. (They also weren't my favorite thing about CLERKS either.)
-
The only bonus was the audio commentary which I sampled about half an hour of. Typical rambling Kevin Smith commentary with mumblings from Jason Mewes (Jay).
-
But I did have plenty of time to watch some things for fun. I opened up my Season 4 set of SUPERNATURAL on Blu-ray and watched the first two episodes, the episodes that introduced the character of the angel Castiel to the show. Just wonderful though right now, he's only playing a slight role in the proceedings. He becomes more important later in the season.
The Blu-rays make the network broadcasts look like pale imitations. Thank you, Warners, for releasing the show on Blu-ray.
-
I completed my evening watching PROJECT RUNWAY. The bitchy one (no names please) is still bithcy and accusing. We haven't really seen the entire collections yet, but I have to say so far I haven't been impressed with anyone's individual pieces (that is, the little that we've seen).
Of course, next week is the grand runway show at Bryant Park, so I'll be looking forward to seeing all of these designs.
-
My evening surf was very quick, and now I'm ready to hop off-line and do some writing. Then, I'll be heading down to bed.
Good night!
-
And just before Laurie Mitchell and Dorothy Neumann appear in their brief scenes!
Laurie and Dorothy both in their briefs??
-
Love those hiking pictures, DR Jane!!! :D
-
I always love Jane's "Hiking With Sherlock" pictures.
-
By the way, I forgot to mention that Christmas is six weeks from yesterday.
:o I'm not ready!!
-
Topic of the Day:
A couple of songs that I love are not real "girl groups," and not old recordings, but I love Liz Callaway's three-part version of "On a Slow Boat to China" on her first CD of Frank Loesser songs. It's wonderful! The other "girl group" song that I love ;) is by The Hidden Trio (I think that's what they're called) and they do the hidden track (appropriate) on "Sondheim: The Stephen Sondheim Album." It's their version of "Getting Married Today," and it's hysterical! ;D
-
One of my favourite girl-group song:
YOU COULD DRIVE A PERSON CRAZY!
I like the male version too ... and a BK cd produced, with the Cassidy Brothers!
Ditto and ditto!!
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
The "Hallelujah Chorus" as sung by The Roches (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEtSkJDA61g).
Cool! I remember watching this when it was originally on TV! I had a tape recorder that I stuck under the TV speaker and recorded it onto a cassette tape. I think that I might still have that tape...somewhere.
-
DR JMK, congrats to Betsy on her hit routines!!!
I won't discuss how I just misread that sentence, LOL.
In the spousal hilarity department, we taped Betsy's routine last night (I'm going to try to digitize it and can make it available to anyone who's interested). She was playing it back this morning and TIMING how long people were laughing. ;) (Nine seconds was the longest laugh).
Congrats to DS Betsy on her success!!
-
Love the pictures, Jane!
-
I just reviewed Puccini's IL TRITTICO, which I found quite beautiful. I hadn't really had much exposure to it (other than "babbino") before.
In other late breaking news, Betsy also loves the house so we will be making an offer tomorrow. There's evidently a lot of interest in it so I'm trying to temper my emotions about it all.
~~~House Buying (and Selling!!) Vibes for DR JMK and DS Betsy!!~~~
Nice!
Good night, George!
-
Good night, Kerry!
Watching SABOTEUR on TCM.
Norman Lloyd was only too happy to jump off Miss Liberty after having done QUIET CITY with Frances. ;)
-
I've watched two motion pictures on Blu-Ray and started a third, but I think I'll call it quits for this evening and resume tomorrow afternoon, when I'll finish what I'm watching and then move on to Up.
-
Thank you for the Mercer links DR François.
Ditto!
-
Eureka! It works. Thanks to DRs George and singdaw!
I don't know if I really helped, but you're welcome! :)
-
I gotta tell you.
-
At long last page ten.
-
Can't sleep.
Pretty soon, I'm giving up and heading over to DR Julie's. :)
-
Good Evening!
...I'm back from another culinary adventure at M&T at Flushing. Tonight's featured dish was "Mutton with Spicy Peppers" - which turned out to be seasoned with a generous amount of cumin seeds too. It was sooooooo good!
-
DR MBarnum - I'm glad you could appreciate his talents. ;)
I have it on a rock/pop acappella CD - whose name I can't remember right now. It's a pretty cool collection - even includes a Todd Rundgren collection. I was thinking it was included on the soundtrack to Spike Lee's Do It A Cappella (http://www.amazon.com/Do-Cappella-1990-Television-Show/dp/B000002H86/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1258266336&sr=8-2), but it's not.
-
OK - It's late. I'm sleepy.
Goodnight.
-
I'm sort of hungry - haven't eaten anything since my egg salad sandwich and cake slice. Maybe some soup would be nice.
-
Soup is always a good idea. :)
-
I watched THE MAD GHOUL. It was fun. George Zucco is such a wonderful character actor, I must say.
(http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4e/Madghoulposter.jpg/200px-Madghoulposter.jpg)
I have always loved this publicity shot from THE MAD GHOUL, even though there is no scene even remotely like this in the film.
