With Stanzi, the star quarterback out for the season, the hopes were pretty low. Vanderberg, the freshman who was suddenly the starting quarterback, actually did an amazing job.

It was fun to watch the game. I was a die hard Hawkeye fan when I went to school there and for a number of years after I graduated. I'm not so much now, but am pleased that DR Samantha is enjoying the games and getting into the fun of living in a college town

DR MBARNUM thanks for the link to the TCM Universal Cult Classics....depending on commissions tomorrow, I may invest.

I am going to watch a few more episodes of ADAM-12 tonight. In the last episode I watched Jim Reed and his wife Jeanne finally had their baby. It still kind of freaks me out that Kent McCord was the sturdy husband and Martin Milner was the swinging bachelor of the duo.

Had a full evening of filmed entertainment.

I began by concentrating on my work project: JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. I had never seen it before, and it was disappointing. Obviously there was some fun in the midst of all the haphazard farce plotting and silliness. But on a $20 million budget, it just points up what an overproduced trifle it is (whereas CLERKS which was made for a pittance is so fresh and true.)

Quite a parade of guest stars throughout the film, some of whom weren't famous then but are now.

So, I found the film erratic and fairly unsatisfying, but I could understand fans of the two stoner lead characters might find their every move hilarious. I didn't. (They also weren't my favorite thing about CLERKS either.)

The only bonus was the audio commentary which I sampled about half an hour of. Typical rambling Kevin Smith commentary with mumblings from Jason Mewes (Jay).

But I did have plenty of time to watch some things for fun. I opened up my Season 4 set of SUPERNATURAL on Blu-ray and watched the first two episodes, the episodes that introduced the character of the angel Castiel to the show. Just wonderful though right now, he's only playing a slight role in the proceedings. He becomes more important later in the season.

The Blu-rays make the network broadcasts look like pale imitations. Thank you, Warners, for releasing the show on Blu-ray.

I completed my evening watching PROJECT RUNWAY. The bitchy one (no names please) is still bithcy and accusing. We haven't really seen the entire collections yet, but I have to say so far I haven't been impressed with anyone's individual pieces (that is, the little that we've seen).

Of course, next week is the grand runway show at Bryant Park, so I'll be looking forward to seeing all of these designs.

Topic of the Day:

A couple of songs that I love are not real "girl groups," and not old recordings, but I love Liz Callaway's three-part version of "On a Slow Boat to China" on her first CD of Frank Loesser songs. It's wonderful! The other "girl group" song that I love

is by The Hidden Trio (I think that's what they're called) and they do the hidden track (appropriate) on "Sondheim: The Stephen Sondheim Album." It's their version of "Getting Married Today," and it's hysterical!

Cool! I remember watching this when it was originally on TV! I had a tape recorder that I stuck under the TV speaker and recorded it onto a cassette tape. I think that I might still have that tape...somewhere.
