Well, you've read the notes, the notes were on and shone, and now it is time for you to post until the shining cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOMOLOGATE!
-
As promised, here is the advance announcement of the new Kritzerland limited edition. The usual routine - 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping paid via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net. We're VERY excited about this one - a personal Holy Grail for me (although not THE Holy Grail release, which is coming soon).
“A MOTION PICTURE WITHOUT A SAFETY VALVE”
Kritzerland is proud to present its newest limited edition soundtrack release:
PRESSURE POINT Music Composed and Conducted by Ernest Gold
Pressure Point, starring Sidney Poitier and Bobby Darin practically burned a hole in movie screens in 1962, a year in which a handful of films were pushing many envelopes that had never been pushed, and none of them pushed the envelope harder and further than Pressure Point. The film was produced by Stanley Kramer and Kramer was noted for bringing very difficult subject matter to the screen and doing so unflinchingly, and for 1962 Pressure Point was extremely difficult subject matter and the resultant film was extremely unflinching in its horrifying portrayal of bigotry and hatred and childhood trauma.
The film, based on a true case history, begins in the present day when a prison psychiatrist (played by a young Peter Falk) comes to his boss (played by Sidney Poitier) and tells him that he wants off the case he’s been handling – he simply cannot deal with it anymore. Poitier sits him down and begins to recount a similarly difficult case back when he was first beginning, in the 1940s during World War II. Briefly, an inmate, in prison for sedition, is brought to Poitier because he’s having nightmares and is unable to sleep. The minute he walks in the room and sees he has to talk to an African-American psychiatrist he begins to laugh. The character is a bigoted, hateful, American Nazi, who especially hates Jews and Blacks. Throughout the film, in bizarre and surrealistic flashbacks, we learn what made him the way he is.
Pressure Point was directed by Hubert Cornfield, a director with only a handful of films to his name, but each of them is the product of a director with a very unique vision and visual style. In Pressure Point, he keeps the main drama, the duologues between Poitier and Darin, simple and straightforward. But the flashback sequences, which show Darin’s childhood traumas, are bravura filmmaking – stylized, expressionistic, and scary, almost like an episode of The Twilight Zone at its finest. Poitier and Darin both give brilliant performances in the film, but the film was perhaps a little too much for audiences of 1962, and it disappeared fairly quickly – a few years later and both actors would probably have been nominated for Academy Awards (Darin was nominated for a Golden Globe for Pressure Point).
To score the film, Kramer turned to his frequent composing partner, Ernest Gold. For Kramer, Gold had already scored The Defiant Ones, On The Beach, and Inherit The Wind, and would go on to score It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Judgment at Nuremburg, Ship of Fools, and The Secret Of Santa Vittoria, as well as the Kramer-produced John Cassavetes-directed A Child Is Waiting. In addition to many other wonderful scores, Gold won the Academy Award for his amazing score for Exodus. He remains one of the great Golden Age film composers, although, today, an underrated one.
Gold, a wonderfully melodic composer, took a very different approach to scoring Pressure Point. His score is as surreal and weird as the film is – and it’s a phenomenal piece of work, breathtaking in its ability to set the mood and especially underscore the sick mind of the Bobby Darin character. In fact, the score, too, would be right at home in an episode of The Twilight Zone – if one is a fan of that show’s scores by Herrmann, Goldsmith, and Van Cleave, then this is very much in that mode. It’s jazzy, nightmarish, crazy music and though 1962 was a year filled with some of the greatest scores ever written, it stands tall with the best of them – even though the film and the score are today almost virtually unknown. Hopefully, this CD will put that to rights, at least as far as the score is concerned – for Kritzerland, this is a Holy Grail release
This world premiere release features every note of music written for the film, and the CD has been mastered from Mr. Gold’s personal tapes, which sounded fantastic in their original mono.
This release is limited to 1000 copies only. The price is $19.98 plus shipping.
CDs will ship by the last week of December – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).

Wow! The first post after BK. Almost ten o'clock here in Naples. The ship is lovely, the cabin is lovely, and the italians are lovely. The food is even better than lovely.

Good morning, George!

One of these days I will time it so that there are some folks here to chat.
Later!

Good morning, George!
Hi, Tom! How's Italy?

NOT YOUR FATHER'S COSCO!

New York City is all a-Twitter about the opening of its first Costco Warehouse Shopping Club on East 116th Street.
But aside from mayo large enough to dress every sandwich in Manhattan, there's another (and more important) reason to flock to Costco -- Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags!
The new location currently has Chanel Classic Flap handbags available for $1,999, though the salesperson, a man, was not sure what sizes were available (baby, small, medium, large or jumbo). These regularly sell anywhere from $1,795 to $2.495.
However, he did say that earlier today they sold out of Louis Vuitton Speedy bags, regularly priced from $665 to more than $3,000, all three going for $589 a pop. But there are currently "a lot" of Burberry and Coach bags, he said.
So, what else is in stock? Burberry's mini satchel for $1,019.99, Tod's medium shopper handbag for $549.99 and a Ferragamo "Marissa" handbag for $629.99.
Just getting access to these deals make the $50 membership fee seem like chump change.
Just the spot for DAW to "accessorize".

Darn it, I keep missing DR TCB!!!! :(
-
Just the spot for DAW to "accessorize".
Honey, even I'm not that crazy! :)
-
DR George - I was considering the Prisoner remake, but since DR Matt H. said it got lousy reviews, I decided not to. Am still considering purchasing the original series, on bk's recommendation, which I've never seen.
-
And I have also never seen an episode of The Twilight Zone. :-[
-
Ack, I forgot to read the notes!
-
So SHINE IT ON was not really only a Liza Minnelli reference?
-
;D
-
The new release sounds exciting and very interesting, bk. Glad that you are able to fulfil a personal dream releasing this one.

Just the spot for DAW to "accessorize".

Anna May Wong put me to sleep. But I have ordered the intense PRESSURE POINT.

TOD:
I saw the FIRST episode of The Twilight Zone which featured Mr BK's neighbor, Earl Holliman. He was an astronaut who discovers himself walking around in a town full of mannequins....and of course it turns out he is taking part in a stress test for when he goes into space.

Disney vibes for DR JOSE that his day improves and that he loses the ennui of the past few days.

Yes, best wishes to our dear Jose.
That makes it sound so morbid and it's not but anyway.

Quote from GAWKER (http://gawker.com/5404826/levi-johnstons-playgirl-spread-the-royal-alaskan-penis-has-been-shot?skyline=true&s=x) about the Levi Johnston Playgirl shoot:
Nardicio and Johnston developed somewhat of a rapport, and the openly gay promoter and Playgirl Marketing guy states: "we were talking in the greenroom about gay categories: bear, cubs and Levi asked what his type would be-we decided a twink, but older, so we anointed him a 'twunk' ".
der Brucer
Actually a slightly older "Twink" would be a "Twank" - a "Twunk" needs grey hair.
-
Who'd a thunk? Gay declensions!! :D
-
TOD:
I loved the "Twilight Zone" as a kid and watched it all the time. I have no idea what the first episode I saw whould have been.
-
I saw "Pressure Point" on TV when I was a kid and was very impressed with it but have not seen it since. Bobby Darin should have won something for that movie because he was brilliant in it as I recall.
-
Good Morning, Ben, wherever you are! :)

Monday morning greetings! I'm up early to get some secretarial chores done for the grantwriters before I take my aunt on some errands.

Back-to-work vibes to DR Jose!

Thanks to Skip's Facebook friends for the lovely birthday wishes to him.
-
TOD:
I don't know the title of "Twilight Zone" episode, but it starred Howard Duff. He's a businessman, working in his office, when suddenly somebody yells "Cut!" and he's on a movie set.
That one has always stuck with me.
-
Happy Skip Day! (that's Birthday talk for Happy Birthday to Skip)
-
TOD:
I know I watched THE TWILIGHT ZONE many a times, but it's been so long since I've seen it that, right now, I could not honestly say which were my favorite episodes and which was my first

ON THIS DAY IN THEATRE HISTORY:
It's the 50th anniversary of the Broadway opening of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
Didja know: all seven of the original cast members who portrayed the Von Trapp children were nominated for a Tony Award in the Best Supporting or Featured Actress of a Musical category, even though two of them were boys.
-
Good to hear that DR TCB is having a lovely time in Rome.
-
Happy Happy Birthday to Skip
One of my regrets is not having the opportunity to meet him and also to taste his presumably great cooking.
But you never know........

BK, if you get a chance to speak with Marvin Hamlisch...or, more importantly, his wife, Terre, please say Hello from Chuck Pogue.

Good morning everyone.

Good morning!

Yes, I did know that. It was also odd that Lauri Peters, who played Leisel, got her own individual nomination in the category. And they were all beaten by Patricia Neway who played the Mother Abbess.
-
I saw White Christmas last night. I had also seen it last year. I liked it even better this year. The new cast is doing a wonderful job. What a fun show.
I overhead several conversations yesterday in the theater that involved parents taking their children to their first Broadway show. Judging by the number of times the back of my seat was kicked by the little girl who just couldn't stop tapping along to the dancing, I think it is a great choice for kids to have their first Broadway experience.

Greetings from Naples! I had a wonderful experience day. First I hired a very beautiful Italian man for a tour of Pompeii and Naples. Davide was his name and he was extremely attractive and spoke beautiful English.
Anyway, when we got to Pompeii, he parked right in front of one of the exits and told me to take me time and he would see me in a couple of hours. He even gave my his card, in case I came out the wrong exit, I could call him and he would pick my up.
Well apparently the ticket seller didn't like me, because I found out later that the ticket was supposed to include a map of the ruins. Well the ticket taker didn't offer the map and I didn't know any better, so off I went. The ruins are amazing, but they are also huge; and like most of the old ruins I have dated, after a while they all start to look alike. When I first started exploring, I saw several of the dogs of Pompeii. I guess they are strays that wander around there. All of the dogs seemed very gentle, but they also kept their distance from me. Except for one black dog that came right up to me, but stopped just outside of my reach. I talked to him for a little while, before heading off on my adventure.
After wandering around for almost two hours, I realized suddenly that I was hopelessly lost. There had been a great many groups from my ship there when I started, but suddenly the only people I saw was a group of Japanese tourists, and a group of special education young people. I found this giant map (but it was written all in Italian)wich is where I first realized how huge this place really is. I ran into several couples, but none of them spoke any English. i kept telling myself not to panic; that if I took my time, I could probably find my way out.
Just then my friend, the black dog, at least I believe it was the same dog came up to me again. I siad to the dog, "I don't suppose you can show me the way out of here?" Well, that dog took off at a trot and I followed him. He always stayed about ten to fifteen feet in front of me, but if I got too far behind he would sit down and wait for me. He would never allow me to catch up with me, but always ran ahead of me. I followed that dog faithfully until he got to this one place where he decided to lay down in the shade. When I got up to him, I could see about ten yards a head of me was a sgin that said, "EXIT." I followed the sign and took me right out to the exact gate where Davide was waiting for me.
Maybe it was just a coincidence, but personally, I beleive that dog led me out of those ruins and back to the correct exit.
That is my story and I am sticking to it!.
-
I have many favorite TWILIGHT ZONE episodes.
I think the first one I remember was "Time Enough at Last," the one with Burgess Meredith as the bookworm.
Among the most scary and memorable to me:
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER (with the greatest shock ending in the history of the show, IMO).
TWENTY-TWO (which haunts me to this day; I find it creepy beyond belief, and the fact that it was shot on videotape rather than film makes it even more eerie).
WILL THE REAL MARTIAN PLEASE STAND UP? (with a great surprise ending)
THE AFTER HOURS (Anne Francis is spooked by department store mannequins; one of the greats.)

Hey!!! It's DR TCB!!!!!! :D

I took a good, long look at THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION this morning. Five of the eight programs are less than an hour long. Only the last three (REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT, THE COMEDIAN, DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES) were done on Playhouse 90 or in 90-minute slots. So, I should be able to get four of them watched today easily. There appear to be some interviews and commentaries with at least some of the programs. But I haven't put any in the player yet, so I don't know which ones have what yet.
The booklet that comes with the set has a nice opening essay about live television and essays on each of the eight programs.

I think my cold is almost over. it has now moved into my head.
This is the worst cold i have had in a long time!

Happy Birthday to Skip!

Gppd morning, all! I slept late and then I got all involved with the CDs that Anthony burned for me, and now here I am I have a walk to the pharmacy today for some meds and a lot of editing. I need to think about Brent Barrett's holiday shows at Roseland as well.
DR Jose, it's great to hear you have some work this week and I'm thrilled that the weekend did not do you in.
DR TCB, sounds like you have an angel watching over you while you're braving the wilds of Italy. Perhaps it's your friend who gave you this trip? Is anyone taking photos? We want photos!
-
Julie - thanks for your positive report about White Christmas. We're seeing it here in Cincinnati on Wednesday evening. Some of my Facebook friends saw it over the weekend and liked it a lot!

For those who love the live drama of the 1950s, it would seem to be a must. I am really eager to begin viewing it. I have REQUIEM and COMEDIAN on videotape and will be glad to rid myself of those and move up to DVD versions of these classics.
-
I must head downstairs now to get cleaned up for lunch out later with best friend John. I will also try to watch last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS before he arrives to pick me up for lunch.

Thanks for your theatre reportage, DR Julie!

~~~CONTINUED FEEL BETTER VIBES~~~ for DR Jennifer!
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And you guys and gals really know how to make a DR feel special. Thank You for all the well-wishes and Vibes. It was a long weekend, but I'm also thinking that might have had something to do with the fact that I was actually out of bed before 10:30am each day. Longer days = longer weekend. ;)
-
Buon Giorno, DR TCB!
-And that's a wonderful story!
*Did you have any pictures taken of - or, hopefully with - your driver?
Wonderful story, TCB! I hope you are taking lots of photos!
Skip says thanks for all the birthday wishes.
As expected, and as he wishes, he is making his own birthday dinner.
Of course, seeing how I'm in Arizona, I don't think you have to worry too much about my just dropping in.
-
Happiest of birthdays to Skip!
-
Laura - That invite goes without saying, but obviously it extends to you and the other out-of-town DR's.
As for the Topic of the Day...
I, of course, only saw "The Twilight Zone" - usually on Channel 20 out of Washington, DC. They would run back to back episodes during the 10:00pm hour. I saw a lot of them, but I never really learned the titles of any of the episodes. -Well, I guess I never paid attention to them. So...
The one with Burgess Meredith and the stopwatch.
The one with the group of people who had a camera that would take "future" pictures. The ending of that one where they notice that there are more bodies on the sidewalk down below really creeped me out.
The one with William Shatner on the airplane.
-And I don't think I ever saw "To Serve Man" until it was shown during a "greatest episodes" week. I guess I just missed it during the regular rotation.
-
Thank you, FJL. And if you're ever in Phoenix, drop in for some floop!
-
I don't think I ever saw an episode of Twilight Zone. I once saw an episode of The Outer Limits about some sea monster, and it scared me to death.
-
Floop.
I'm funny that way...
Thanks for the vibes. Even though it sucks to have a bad cold, I feel much worse for others who have it worse.
My sister's friend (who is sick with H1N1 symptoms) took her 1 1/2 year old to the hospital yesterday. She has asthma. so she ends up going to the hospital for most things. Poor kid.
I don't really know how they are gathering the H1N1 numbers, since they say it is too expensive to test people.
They had the kid hooked up to breathing machines for 1 1/2 hours before the doc came. So by then the kid was doing much better. They say to just monitor things. Same for the mom.
Good Afternoon!
Oh... It's sunny today in NYC. :)
-
I'm up after a very weird and fitful night of semi-sleep.
-
First off, a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to dear reader FJL's ever-lovin' Skip!
-
And now... Since it is such a nice sunny day, I believe I'm going to head into midtown a bit early and walk around in the aforementioned sunlight before I start my audition session this afternoon.
Laters...
-
Second off, CDs have just arrived. Since the day I started using this plant they have come in boxes of fifty, two boxes per larger box. Today there are four boxes of twenty-five in the larger boxes, which I HATE! It now causes me more time to open boxes and it's harder to get them out of the boxes and there are now twice as many boxes to break down for the trash. Brilliant. They're getting a call from me now.
-
Julie - thanks for your positive report about White Christmas. We're seeing it here in Cincinnati on Wednesday evening. Some of my Facebook friends saw it over the weekend and liked it a lot!
I am seeing it in Seattle the day after Christmas.
It's always sunny in Philadelphia.
the beautiful Davide.
A counter-balance to the Roman ruins?
-
Hi, DR TCB!!!!!! :D
Hi DUH!
-
Can't wait to see some of your pictures, DR TCB, when you get back. Is it true, what they say about Italian men?
-
Thanks to one and all for the good wishes. I am glad you all enjoyed the story. it is funny, it didn't seem weird to me when it happened, but the longer I have been back on the ship, the weirder it seems to me.
-
I actually don't know what they say, but I'm sure they must say something! :)
DR TCB, I hope the heat is not getting to you--I would have thought the three hundred pictures would have been of him alone.
Make sure you have Davide show you all one of Rome's beautiful beaches.
Can't wait to see some of your pictures, DR TCB, when you get back. Is it true, what they say about Italian men?
I don't really know, DAW. Unfortunately. I have had two kockout gorgeous cab drivers and three very ugly trolls. There are several crew members who are also quite stunning. However, other than good looks and great bodies; I couldn't tell you.
-
DR TCB, I hope the heat is not getting to you--
If he faints, Davide may have to catch DR TCB in his arms.
Sadly, I won't be seeing Davide again, Dan-t-m. We sailed from Naples about a half hour ago.
I think it is time for dinner.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE DELIGHTFUL AND TALENTED SKIP!!!!
-
However, if anyone is planning a visit to Naples soon (hint hint DAW), I do have Davide's cell phone number. And his home number is you would like to speak to his wife.
-
(hint hint DAW)
Hmmm..... Davide and David.... Well, it would look good on the towels and the invitations! ;)
-
I've just been doing some price comparisons and found that while it's true that they are not having their traditional supersale (as DR JMK had pointed out over the weekend), DeepDiscount's current 40% off prices are cheaper than Amazon. The Complete I LOVE LUCY set, which I've been eyeballing for a while is at $119 on DeepDiscount compared to Amazon's $139. And while the THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION set is considered pre-order on DeepDiscount and not yet on sale, it will be $29.97 there compared to 34.99 on Amazon.
-
I think it is time for dinner.
hint: don't wear the pink if you've had too much sun. You don't want to clash.
-
"Davide and Conquer", that's what I always say.
-
DR TCB, your dog story is absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for stopping in and sharing your adventures. :D
Thanks to one and all for the good wishes. I am glad you all enjoyed the story. it is funny, it didn't seem weird to me when it happened, but the longer I have been back on the ship, the weirder it seems to me.
Happy Birthday to Skip the Pope of DR VIXMOM's dreams.
DR MATTH mentioned several more TZ episodes that I enjoyed.
I guess I get weary of Mr Serling's preachy episodes about some old man or some useless person who is mistreated and suddenly is able to do something that makes him special or adored, which he then abuses or misuses.....this had several treatments on TZ.
-
Like DR JOSE, I enjoyed A MOST UNUSUAL CAMERA.
When I asked I could still see a photo-very strange. Earlier I had attempted to post a different birthday photo, hmmmm.
AFTER HOURS and TWENTY TWO both have strong female performances that are vivid all of these years later.
When Donna Douglas was making an appearance in my hometown, I took her a TWILIGHT ZONE book that included EYE OF THE BEHOLDER in photo form. I had bought a couple of them for 25 cents at Half Price Books. She looked at it and said, "Oh my goodness. The director told me he thought this book was going to happen, but he didn't know anything about it. Oh my.... I have never seen this....."
I offered her that copy and she said "Oh, no, I couldn't take your book." And I told her I had two of them, that one was for her! She said thanks! I also wanted to tell her that her horizons was broad enough - but they were rushing us along.
-
I hope that one stays active :)
Oh....I almost forgot KICK THE CAN!
Actually Mado is her first name!
Why, so it is! Thanks, DR elmore3003.
Happy Birthday, Skip. We can have a pool party if we get this fershluggenah house. :)
I had an interesting phone conversation with the conductor of the Men's Chorus about ONE LIFE TO LIVE and Kyle and Fish. Then I made some tuna salad, and now I have some editing to do.
Very windy and COOL in my hometown today.
I used to teach the teleplay script of THE MONSTERS ARE DUE ON MAPLE STREET as a kind of introduction to drama. Many of my students had never seen a script before, and that 30-minute scipt was perfect to get a taste for reading drama as opposed to short stories, poetry, or novels.
-
Before I left for lunch, I had time to watch last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS. Oh, I got irritated all over again with this overly-melodramatic business with Rebecca's pregnancy. She's had SIX weeks to tell Justin about it, and she's mad because he's busy THE MINUTE she's ready to talk about it. Tough.
Many of the stories were very unsatisfying for me in this episode. The whole wine spoiling business doesn't ring true: Ryan can sneak into a storage facility without being noticed (no other workers?) in a big operation like Ohai? Or there are no security cameras on wine that can make millions. Nope, sorry, not buying it.
Sarah and Luc's break-up seemed very phony; a convenient way to write the guest star out of the show. Irritating.
-
I had an interesting phone conversation with the conductor of the Men's Chorus about ONE LIFE TO LIVE and Kyle and Fish. Then I made some tuna salad, and now I have some editing to do.
I hope he's enjoying their budding relationship as much as I am.
-
I also watched MONK before heading off to lunch. I knew who the guilty party was within fifteen minutes of the show starting. It was a LONG time to get to the revelation of the murderer.
-
When I got back from lunch, there was no FIGHT CLUB, so I started on THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION.
First up was MARTY with Rod Steiger and Nancy Marchand. Each show has an introduction by a celebrity. Eva Marie Saint introduced this show (these intros were filmed in 1981) and featured brief interviews with Steiger, Besty Palmer (who had a small role), Nancy Marchand, and director Delbert Mann. Interesting introduction which really makes one want to view the show. (As if I needed any reason)
I had never seen this in its entirety (51 minutes). Steiger is very touching, and I loved the actress who played his mother, too.
And in small one or two sentence roles: Nehamiah Persoff, Don Gordon, and I'd swear that was George Maharis as an extra at the dance hall (I'm sure it wasn't, but the actor could have been his twin).
-
Delbert Mann has a full-length commentary track, and though he repeats all of the stories he related in the introduction, he had some other things to say about the movie version which he also directed, why it was cast the way it was, etc. Very interesting.
-
PATTERNS is next, but I didn't have time to watch the show. I did have time to watch the introduction which is hosted by Keenan Wynn and features director Fielder Cook and Richard Kiley in interviews.
There is no commentary with this one, so I'll watch the show when I go back down.
-
Thanks for the vibes. Even though it sucks to have a bad cold, I feel much worse for others who have it worse.
My sister's friend (who is sick with H1N1 symptoms) took her 1 1/2 year old to the hospital yesterday. She has asthma. so she ends up going to the hospital for most things. Poor kid.
I don't really know how they are gathering the H1N1 numbers, since they say it is too expensive to test people.
They had the kid hooked up to breathing machines for 1 1/2 hours before the doc came. So by then the kid was doing much better. They say to just monitor things. Same for the mom.
~~~Continued Vibes for DR Jennifer and Her Friend's Kid!!~~~

DR George - I was considering the Prisoner remake, but since DR Matt H. it got lousy reviews, I decided not to. Am still considering purchasing the original series, on bk's recommendation, which I've never seen.
I watched the first two episodes and it's not bad, it's just...what's the point? :-\
-
Don't you just hate it when another DR's quote of your own earlier post highlights that you left out a word by accident? ;D

"Papa, can you hear me now?"

Roger Corman should have received his Honorary Oscar at that party, too.
Maybe some Allison clips were flashed on the screen. Too bad this won't be part of official Oscar telecast next year. Too busy having "stars" read bad jokes and singing dumb songs, and unfunny comedians giving monotonous monologs.
Just give out the damned awards and shut up! We don't care!

Barbra Streisand's said she could have done it better and ask Ms Bacall for a retake.

Now, I must write a little bit and then head back down to watch PATTERNS and then NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS. Those two plus MARTY are what is on disc one in the set.

ITALIAN UNDERPANTS!
Oh, did you see some of those? You must be having a very good trip!

We have been watching LIFE ON MARS. So far we have only watched the first 5 episodes and are enjoying the show very much. Providing I still feel the same at the completion of season 1, will I be left dangling? Am I correct the show was canceled?

And I have also never seen an episode of The Twilight Zone. :-[
What? That is un-American as well as inhuman.

Wow, that is like a story from the Lassie tv program.

Oy! I've been coping this afternoon with a FINIAN'S RAINBOW music problem not caused - thank God! - by me. The cause of the problem is trying to drag me into it and I needed the advice of several people on the production.
Then, my attempt to buy Finale 2010 was thwarted because I mistakenly bought on Amazon the "educational" version, same program software but selling at about $200 less than the "professional" version which to me is total bullshit. The supplier was willing to sell the me other edition for an additional $180 but I think I can do better in Manhattan or on another site like eBay or some music vendors.

I would tell him everything. Do you want to be the only one to deal with her madness?

DR Ginny - for what it is worth, I agree with DR elmore3003. If I were her son, I would want to know.
My mother and her sister got involved in their mother's finances late in the game, and discovered that they should have been involved a long time before. But she was good at making it seem like everything was OK.

LOL! It's part of the magic that is Pompeii. I do wish I could be there again. The first time I visited (1973), it snowed a bit...and Vesuvius was snow-capped. I went back many times during my years in Naples.
-
However, if anyone is planning a visit to Naples soon (hint hint DAW), I do have Davide's cell phone number. And his home number is you would like to speak to his wife.
All Italian men have wives, DR TCB. That doesn't stop them from taking phone calls from strange men.
-
I don't think I ever saw an episode of Twilight Zone.
My mind is completely boggled. You win the Gold Star for the week,, DR Laura....and you, thus, break Mike Barnum's record of having won it every week for the past five years.
-
You calling DR TCB strange?? ;)
-
Holy moley on rye. Four o'clock and I have literally just finished boxing up everything. I finished the initial batch at eleven-thirty and took those to the post office right then. Then I had some bacon and eggs whilst I filled out all the UPS forms for my big dealer order. Then I came home and got those boxes ready, plus packaged up a few more stray orders. Then I took those to the UPS Store. I had a couple of packages today, including one I've been chomping at the bit to get, about which more later. I then packaged up all the overseas orders and a couple more online dealer orders, got postage on them, and am finally finished with it, until about three errant and truant dealers pay. I only have one box I have to actually stand in line for, so that's good. I'll take everything else over there tonight, so that all I have to do is this one box in the morning.

I am, in a word, exhausted.

Thanks for the advice and commiserations, DRs Jane, Elmore, and DAW. For now, I've just washed down a Naproxen with a glass of wine and that should make me feel a LOT better - or not care.

DR Ginny the wine should help ease the side effects from the Naproxen on your intestinal track.:)

Finally ready to sit on Ye Olde Couch and watch something. Actually, I may sit on Ye Olde Bed and watch something, since I can't seem to get my all-region Blu and DVD player to play DVDs - it's supposed to automatically convert PAL to NTSC and it's not doing so - I'm sure there's some setting I'll have to adjust and I've written the place from whence it came and hopefully they'll get me the answer tomorrow.

-
Watching A Bug's Life.
-
I am watching some of THE PRISONER. I can't seem to follow it, and don't really have any interest in trying...
-
I have no interest in watching the new PRISONER. The reviews were not kind and I enjoyed the original, why ruin good memories.
-
Well, I made an almost complete evening out of THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION. I began by watching PATTERNS.
I MUCH preferred it to the movie version, mainly because Richard Kiley was the right age for his role (played in the movie by an overaged Van Heflin). And in just an hour, the drama is really riveting. When Ed Begley, Everett Sloane, and Richard Kiley start thundering away at each other in those board room sessions, it's truly GREAT acting.
Both Begley and Sloane were nominated for Emmys (Kiley wasn't but should have been). Serling won the Emmy for his script, but the show was surprisingly not nominated as Program of the Year, despite the fact that the furor over its excellence was so great that they repeated the show with another live broadcast one month later, practically unheard of.
-
I'm watching THE CLOSER reruns. I just saw the one episode I missed this past season so I'm quite happy.
-
Next came the very funny NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS. I'd seen the movie eons ago, but I'd never seen this first hour-long show of the material. It's very funny, and Andy Griffith is a natural actor. Yep, you can see that Gomer Pyle was taken (stolen) directly from this (except Marines instead of Air Force).
I was most impressed with the effortless direction. All these switching sets, and it flows SO smoothly. You can tell they're in a cramped studio, and yet everything flows rather beautifully.
-
And then I watched a drama I knew NOTHING about whatsoever, Julie Harris and Donald Woods in A WIND FROM THE SOUTH. It's a tender, touching love story with Harris playing an Irish colleen who's burdened with running a bed and breakfast with her bitter brother. An unhappily married man checks in and on his last night there, finally expresses his feelings for her.
Sounds simple, but it's so delicately and beautifully acted and directed (it's the best looking kinescope of the four I've watched thus far). I really loved it. Doing a little research, I see that Julie Harris got an Emmy nomination for this (but lost to Mary Martin in PETER PAN).
-
I've enjoyed all of the introductions to the shows, too. Merv Griffin introduced A WIND FROM THE SOUTH since he sings "A Soft Day" over the opening and closing credits. Roddy McDowall introed NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS (he co-starred in the Broadway version but was not in the Tv version).
-
I went ahead and watched the last of the SUPERNATURAL Blu-ray episodes on disc one. This was the one where Dean gets infected with a fear virus (running from a little dog with a pink bow in her hair is priceless).
-
Good morning, George!
Hi, Tom! How's Italy?
I'd guess it's lovely ;)
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SKIP!~!
-
Good Evening!
-Did I already say that? -Hmmm... I don't think so.... In any case...
-
DR Jane, LIFE ON MARS was indeed only 1 season long. I am glad you are enjoying it....both MattH and I loved the show! There are some very touching episodes and it all does get wrapped up in the final episode.
I'd read that the producers had envisioned how they were going to end the series from the very beginning. It's different than how the original British version ended. Essentially, what they did (NO SPOILER AHEAD) could've actually been filmed at the start of the series and saved for as long as they needed it, but I don't think it actually was...unfortunately, they needed it sooner rather than later. It was a very simple way to end the show, but it worked.
-
Happy birthday, Skip!
We were gone most of the day on a trip to nowhere in particular.
-
I haven't looked at Variety. Did other shows also show a corresponding drop at the box office last week?
Others shows also experienced a "dip" last week, while others did have an up-tick. However...
The numbers to look at - to be concerned about - are the advance sales for January and February which is the traditional make-or-break time for most shows. I have a feeling Finian's should be fine throughout the holidays and the end of the year.
-

Is there a pic of when Leporello and Don Giovanni switch identities? change clothes? That's sort of a nicer "pic", in my opinion. ;)
*They come out at the top of the second act like that. At the dress rehearsal I attended, there were a couple of whistles and cat-calls before Don Giovanni (Daniel) gave the signal to the conductor to start. ;)
-
Thanks DR George. I'm glad they had a vision in mind & could film it quickly.

And now I must head down to bed. I have my semi-annual teeth check-up and cleaning tomorrow VERY early, so I need to get to bed.
Good night!

SORT OF A DWS SPOILER BUT NOT REALLY BECAUSE IT'S JUST MY OPINION
DR LAURA, I hate to tell you this, but my guess is either Donny or Kelly are going home tomorrow night
-
Oh...
Today's batch of auditions were a lot of fun. And in true Disney "fashion", I was booked for five hours, but only ended up playing for two and a half. :)
*And, yes, we saw and heard the full spectrum of talent today: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Clueless. Totally Clueless. ::)
-
Btw, if anyone happens to know a young actress who sings - soprano preferred - as well as speaks Cantonese, please have them contact Disney Talent Casting. ;)

Then, my attempt to buy Finale 2010 was thwarted because I mistakenly bought on Amazon the "educational" version, same program software but selling at about $200 less than the "professional" version which to me is total bullshit. Since i have no "educational" verifiers, I had to cancel the order. The supplier was willing to sell the me other edition for an additional $180 but I think I can do better in Manhattan or on another site like eBay or some music vendors.
DR elmore - Buy it at the Juilliard Bookstore.
Wouldn't Jiulliard be selling the "Academic" version?

I caught the second half of tonight's show, and, yes, it looks like there's going to be a heartbreaker for someone tomorrow.

Here is Fish in a typical posture:
Well, the next sound you hear is DR MBarnum going into sugar shock.

The product is the same. It's just a matter of the pricing. The Juilliard Bookstore only sells it at the Academic/Educational price.

I'm watching THE CLOSER reruns. I just saw the one episode I missed this past season so I'm quite happy.
Something about that last scene made me a little weepy.

Happy Skip Day!!!

And here is the coverage from The New York Times about the festivities this past weekend in Hollywood:

Roger Corman, Lauren Bacall and Gordon Willis

I'm still at work! WHY?? "Heroes" is starting! Unless something went horribly wrong, my DVR is set to record it, so I won't miss it. :)
Until later!

I would have to prove to Finale when I registered it that I was a student. The whole thing is ridiculous.

You're talking about the wedding, right? The episode I missed was the trucker/nnja killer.

DR elmore - Umm... When I bought my copy of Finale at the Juilliard Bookstore... Once the product is bought, it's bought.

Happy birthday, Skip!
We were gone most of the day on a trip to nowhere in particular.
I've been to nowhere in particular - it's lovely this time of year.
-
Well, I need to start winding down and get ready for bed. I have some more auditions to play in the morning.
Goodnight.
-
I think I'm through with viewing for this evening. Perhaps I'll type up my notes for the long musical. Yes, why not? I'll play some CDs.
-
Hi :)
-
Hi!

Looking forward to the new cd.
Ordered.

Oh yes, the wedding one! The trucker one was great, too (directed by Kevin Bacon.) Fun stuff to cut into promos. Lots of great action (unlike the upcoming episodes, which are still great!)
-
Nothing else to say.
Busy day.
I like the new Sting cd.
Looking forward to a 3 day Thanksgiving weekend.
Night.
:-[ ;D
-
I actually got invited to a Thanksgiving dinner, so I don't have to eat a turkey sandwich.
-
Finished with my long musical notes.

Ever have a bad day? Just be glad you're not this guy...
