DR Ben, congratulations for being a short-timer for the rest of the year!

TOD:
Kermit, of course, is my favorite Muppet.
Aside from the odd Chung King commercial or two, I would say that I first became aware of Muppetry through Rowlf and his weekly appearances on The Jimmy Dean Show. There were also the Ed Sullivan spots and then the TV specials such as THE GREAT SANTA CLAUS CAPER and HEY CINDERELLA!
My favorite movie would be THE MUPPET MOVIE.
-
I have to admit that I was never a fan of Jim Henson's fantasy movies such as LABYRINTH and THE DARK CRYSTAL. Yes, the designs were imaginative but I found both of these movies to be unbearably slow.
My favorite Henson non-Muppet project would have to be EMMET OTTER'S JUGBAND CHRISTMAS.
-
Sending goog thoughts for DR JOSE and the family tsuris. This is the time of the year for it.
-
DR JMK don't you like playing Jonathon Edwards fractured fifths?
-
Love THE MUPPET SHOW.
Really liked the episodes with Rudolf Nuryev and the one with Julie Andrews.
Statler & Hilton were always very funny.
I really liked "The Cat Came Back" - I think that was TPS and not Sesame Street.
-
Has the Fritz Lang Indian Saga been discussed here......
If you are a Lang fan, I would highly recommend this 1959 film. It's a two part action romance set in India. Beautiful color on the Fantoma set I bought.....I watched it in German with English subtitles.....most enjoyable.
Ms Debra Paget as a dancer wears a costume in the second part that would make a pole dancer blush....and does some very suggestive dancing....in part one in the temple....in part two with a cobra!
Lots of fun.
-
Mailing out a couple of packages myself this morning.

Good morning!

Good morning, all! This could be a bleak week because of Thanksgiving. We may not be paid before next week, if the Calfornia office is closed, as we suspect. We're rarely notified about such things as "turn in invoices before such a date if you want to be paid" since the institute considers us bastard cousins after eight years. Still, I may be pleasantly surprised and find the transfer in my account tomorrow; you never know with them. I have my fingers crossed. Otherwise, it's crackers and water until I'm paid.
This morning, my reporter friend JohnG sent me an email telling me he most likely won't be coming to HHW until after Thanksgiving because of three projects he's currently juggling.
Beyond that, I have work here and I will get to it immediately
TOD: I remember playing the original "Songs from Sesame Street" recording with "Trash," "Ruber Ducky," "Green," and other songs in college but I have no memory of when I first saw the Muppets. My favorite film wth Henson creations is the wonderful Dennis Potter film DREAMCHILD, which has woefully never been made avalable as a DVD.
-
Good morning!
Good morning, DR Julie! Are you arrived to your destination?
-
I arrived yesterday afternoon in Florida, after a rather uneventful trip. I was expecting mass crowds at the ariport, with people getting an early jump on the holiday week. But I must have picked a very good window of time for my flight, because that did not happen. Quite the opposite, in fact. I got through security faster than ever, and my plane wasn't even full --- I had the whole row to myself. When is the last time that happened? For me - years and years.
Anyhoo, it's lovely here. Nice and warm. Sunny now, but they are expecting some "weather" later this afternoon, so I think I'll grab some quick breakfast and then take a nice long swim while it's really beautiful outside.
Safe travels to all heading out today.
Vibes to all.

Hello dear Larry!

TOD:
I never was much of a Muppet fan, but I did like The Cookie Monster.
-
Hello dear Larry!
Howdy, dearest darlingest Julie!

Love THE MUPPET SHOW.
Really liked the episodes with Rudolf Nuryev and the one with Julie Andrews.
Statler & Hilton were always very funny.
Oops! Wrong hotel! They were Statler and Waldorf.

Good morning!
It's still terribly overcast, but there's no rain in the forecast, so that's fine. I was staying in for most of the day anyway. The walk was very nice this morning.

TOD:
I, too, got my first taste of the Muppets with Rowlf on THE JIMMY DEAN SHOW, and I remember their weird creatures created for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's first season, too.
Favorite Muppet has always been Miss Piggy, but I also had a great fondness for Scooter (and all of the other characters voiced and manipulated by the late Richard Hunt).
Favorite Muppet movie was THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN. I have those first four or five movies on DVD and haven't revisited them in years.
-
I guess I will work on the Blu-ray of GIMME SHELTER today. Not being a great Rolling Stones fan, I can't say I'm looking forward to seeing this (never have seen it all the way through, just portions of it). But since I reviewed SHINE A LIGHT some months ago, it'll be fun seeing them young after seeing what decades of hard living and drug use have done to them.
-
Looking forward to watching last night's CASTLE while I eat lunch. I still have last week's LAW & ORDER and MONK to watch, too, at some point today.
-
Staler and WALDORF.....I didn't even know they had names until years later when it was pointed out to me.
I think Ed Sullivan featured the Muppets as well....there was something with a worm.....and also some creature playing the piano which kept getting eaten by larger muppets....or maybe that was the worm. Anyway, it was funny.
-
And of course - the Yip Yips discover Radio!

I loved the Muppet Shows that had true musical guests like Julie Andrews or Gene Kelly. When they had guests like Mark Hamill, the shows were less interesting to me.
I always thought at the height of THE MUPPET SHOW that Jim Henson was the next Walt Disney, that he would create an empire of movies, TV, records, theme parks with his creations. He never got the theme parks (they got folded into Disney), but his influence was certainly wide and long-lasting.
I also love The Count on SESEME STREET.
-
Now, I'm going to finish up some computer stuff and then head downstairs to watch some leisure TV until I need to think about what's for lunch.

IF THIS IS TUESDAY, IT MUST BE SPAIN?
Wow, how did it get to be the last day of the cruise? It seems like only yesterday that I boarded this ship outside of Rome. And now we are just about finished.
This morning, we are having our only morning at sea. We dock in Majorca at 1:00 o’clock this afternoon, and sail again at 7:00.
Last nice the seas got rougher and rougher. I must confess that I was a wuss! Rather than risk spending the better part of the night in the Head (sorry, nautical term), I stuck on a seasick patch. Within about a half hour I was feeling sleepy and huge waves stopped bothering me. This morning, I woke up to calm seas and blue skies. When we docked at Palme de Majorca it was already 68 degrees. The first thing I noticed confirmed my earlier thesis – “Everyone in Europe has a yacht, or at least a boat of some kind.” I swear, they say that Seattle is the boating capital of the world, or at least the Seattle Chamber of Commerce says so; but I think that status pales by some of the local ports that I have seen. Number One would have to be Monte Carlo. They only have 7,000 citizens in Monaco, but there has to be close to that many boats in the three harbors that I saw. Naturally, a lot of the luxury yachts may be owned by visitors who are not considered citizens. Marseille may not be quite the exclusive address that Monte Carlo is, but there was still a ton of boats.
I just stopped off at my cabin to drop off my camera, and darling Lely had already set my suitcase on the bed for me. Talk about a direct hint. Oh well, I had better start throwing my stuff in now, before I go ashore.
We have an Anderson Cooper look alike onboard the Insignia or at least I am assuming he is just a look alike. He is on this cruise with his boyfriend. If it is actually Anderson Cooper, then he is a lot shorter than I thought he was.
---------------------------------------------
Well, I have completed my journey to Majorca. After stepping off the gang plank and walking the over half mile to get to the front of the terminal, I thought, “What Hell am I doing?”
I had already cashed in all of Euros this morning, so if I really wanted to do anything or buy anything here in Spain, I was going to have to hike back to the ship to buy more Euros. Considering how tired I have been since Monaco, and considering what time I have to be up in the morning, and considering how many hours I am going to be cramped into those two airplanes, I decided to bag it. So, I came back to the ship, and lay in the sun for an hour, and now I think I am about ready to go back and finish packing.
I didn’t buy myself very much on this trip. A t shirt from Monaco and a t shirt and a coffee mug onboard ship. Of course, I had to pay for the Ferrari to be shipped back to America for my sister…. Haha! I can already see her laughing over that one. Well, this is my last e-mail from Europe. By tomorrow evening, God willing, I will be back home with my sweet little Nicky.
Hasta mañana!

Tuesday morning greetings! Today's house-cleaning day, in preparation for the big Thanksgiving get-together.
TOD - The Swedish Chef was my favorite character on The Muppet Show and The Count on Sesame Street. Our DS Rob had a Count face mask, which he wore with a cape one year for Halloween. Movie: Muppets Take Manhattan, of course!

DR TCB - safe travels home and thank you for sharing your trip with us!

Well it just so happens the Muppets are a little bit of synchronicity for me right now, as I mentioned the debut of Miss Piggy at the Frishberg concert the other night. When Herb Alpert reformed the TJB in the early 1970's (Frishberg was the keyboard player), they went to England to tape a television special where the Muppets were the special guests. It was the first appearance of Miss Piggy. The whole special is on YouTube (search "Herb Alpert Miss Piggy"). Two of Dave's great songs are featured, including an absolutely amazing live performance (not lip synched) by Lani of Dave's "Wheelers and Dealers." If you wonder why I and former DR Tomovoz love Lani so much, just listen to her impeccable phrasing and control on that song.
-
What a great trip it's been DR TCB!
-
Well, my housekeeping list has expanded a bit because my niece from Illinois just called to say that she is coming for Thanksgiving, after all. YAY!!!
-
So Betsy was more or less freaking out yesterday about this potential move, despite the fact that it's all of 10 minutes from here. She is especially worried about being the only Jew in Hillsboro, as she grew up in a little Wisconsin town where her family was the only Jewish family (try growing up in SLC, I keep telling her). In a funny moment last night, she was at work and I was at home, and we evidently were simultaneously Googling 'Jewish Hillsboro' at the same time, and found out there was Chabad out there (the ultra-orthodox Lubavitcher sect that just Bar Mitzvahed my nephew). So I emailed her the webpage and called her and she clicked in and said "I'm on the phone with them right now!" ;)
Then she "interviewed" (I woud say inquisitioned, but I won't) a Jewish woman the Chabad gave her the number of who has kids in both the schools our boys would be in. Betsy is just asking this poor woman question after question after question and then I suddenly hear Betsy say, "No, no, no, I live about 10 minutes away." It turns out the poor woman thought Betsy was moving from far off Namibia or something. We've been giggling about it ever since. Woman: "Where do you live now?" Betsy: "Come out on your porch and I'll wave to you!"

DR Cillaliz, what did you think of last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS?
It was definitely interesting. And i feel like donny osmond went out on a high. While Mya's freestyle was lacking.
I was really disappointed in kelly osbourne. I thought her first dance was so-so. I thought that when lined up beside the others she was by far the worst. And i thought her freestyle was not good. She messed up a lot. And it was not a strong routine.
I was not sure who i was going to vote for. I decided to wait to see the freestyles.
I thought mya's first routine was very good. I was surprised that i did not care for her as much in the side by side routines. I think it was because she was standing right beside kym (the pro) and kym was so much better (since you tended to focus on the girls).
I was so disappointed in mya's freestyle. I thought she did not look like she was giving it all her effort. And i was so disappointed in Dmitri's choreography. his first number was so strong. I realize he has never had to do a freestyle before. But it was like he had no idea how to choreograph one. I was so disappointed. And IMO mya will lose because
of that last dance.
As for donny, i thought his freestyle was good. It was by far the best of the 3. But i didn't think it was as great as the judges said. Kym clearly knows what to put in the final dance. And i feel like the ended on such a high. If most people wait to vote till after the show, then i think donny will win. Plus he is by far the most popular. I think it will come down to him and mya and i think he will win.

TOD:
Favorite Muppet characters are Beaker and The Swedish Chef.
Can't think of a favorite Muppet movie. It has been so many years since I saw them (sometime in the 1980s), but I know that the ones that I watched were fun.
-
I remember watching The Muppets when i was little. I had kermit the frog, miss piggy and animal dolls. I liked kermit.

My favorite MUPPET SHOW memory is this: as a kid it really touched me, due to my anti hunting stance and love for animals.

GLAXOSMITHKLINE RECALLS H1N1 VACCINE IN CANADA OVER 'LIFE-THREATENING' ALLERGY RISK
LONDON — The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline says it has advised medical staff in Canada to not use one batch of swine flu vaccine for fear it may trigger life-threatening allergies.
GlaxoSmithKline spokeswoman Gwenan White said Tuesday the company issued the advice after reports that one batch of the swine flu vaccine might have caused more allergic reactions than normal.
She says the affected batch contains 172,000 doses of the vaccine. She declined to say how many doses had been administered before the advice to stop using them was given.
White says GlaxoSmithKline wrote to Canadian healthcare professionals advising them to stop using the batch on Nov. 18. She says a total of 7.5 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed in Canada.

At least it isn't Ciribiribin, DR ELMORE.
I would know exactly what to do with that one! The hard part is when they give you a song one day with a recording of something completely different, say arrange it along these lines and expect a finished product ASAP. Sometimes it's nice to have 2-4 days to ponder it and try out various ideas, to let it simmer on the back burner while you prepare other parts of the meal. I use a cooking metaphor a lot.
So, it took me an hour and a half of writing to do 30 new bars of piano-vocal to set the piece up to where it can be attached to the old piano-vocal arrangement at m. 17 of the old arrangement. I had from yesterday afternoon to think about this, and it went rather smoothly. If I'd had 2 more days, I could have sat at the piano and tried out other ideas. Tempus fugits and I'm out of time, so we'll see how it goes.

Where is DR JOSE today?
I'm here! I'm here!
The breakfast meeting I was supposed to have last week was rescheduled for this morning, so... Actually, it was not really a meeting, just a chance to talk and catch up with someone I work with without any "work" to get in the way of the conversation. All in all, it was a very nice way to start the day.
*And even though the skies were gray and cloudy when I left my apartment this morning, they cleared up nicely by the time we left the diner.
-
Then it was down to Chelsea Barber to get my hairs cut. Thankfully, my timing was pretty good. I only had to wait about 15 minutes for a free chair, I managed to get Max too - although, my other favorite barber, Alex, was also there this afternoon, but his client asked for a shave after his haircut, so...
*And since I had checked the lottery tickets I bought the other night before I headed downtown and found out that I had won - a whopping $44! - my haircut was basically "free". :)
-
Lucky DR JOSE!
-
DRs TCB, FJL, Ben & JRand for the Family Vibes and concern. I think everything will be all right, but, most likely, a little awkward for a few minutes (I hope for just a few minutes). I've talked with my brothers and they're not that concerned about any of "it", so... In any case...
I'm really looking forward to seeing my nieces and nephew - Alexandra, Alyssa, Emily and John Michael - later this week. I saw Alexandra the last time I was down in Fairfax, but, sadly, I don't think I've seen John Michael, Alyssa and Emily (who is also my god-daughter) since August, my birthday. Seems too long.

Back inside for a break. It was a lovely morning. I did laps in the beautiful pool for two hours, and then found a nice chaise to dry off on. Had some lunch, and now catching up on emails, phone calls, etc. Helped my father set up this new giant telescope that someone gave him. We set it u0p on one of the terraces faceng the ocean, and we've been usin it to get a good close up look oif cruise ships going in and out of the local harbors in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
I don't think it reaches far enough to see DR TCB's ship, though.

What a wonderful trip you had, DR TCB. Thanks for sharing it all with us. Safe travels back home.

Jose - I am glad that the family issue sounds like it will be manageable.
Once everyone is all together, you will all hopefully be able to enjoy being together as a family for the holiday. It is very special to be able to do that.

As for yesterday's Topic of the Day...
I remember catching the re-release of "House of Wax" at the Arlington Cinema & Draft House when I was in high school. -I just had soda, not beer, with my pizza and movie.
I know I must have seen another 3-D movie before then, but no exact titles come to mind.
I've always liked all the 3-D "rides" at Disney World and Universal Studios, with the "Muppet*Vision 3D4D" being my favorite. -Which leads me to...
-
DR Julie - Glad to hear that you had quite a nice trip down to Florida yesterday, and got to spend some quality time in a beautiful pool this morning. :)
-
So tonight we shall head into downtown Miami Beach for dinner at a nice Italian restaurant.
After that, we shall go to the Miami Arts Center to see the Florida Grand Opera.
The performance tonight is a double header -- Pagliacci, and Suor Angelica. I really like both of them, and they are rarely performed together. Most oftern, Pagliacci is paired with Cavalleria Rusticana, and Suor Angelica is part of Il Trittico. So I don't know why they though to put them together this way, but I'm really looking forward to it.

That's a more common pairing now for some opera companies. It allows them to hire a "star tenor" (for Pag) and a "star soprano" (for Suor).
Although, it makes for quite a tragic evening at the opera.
*I'll have to check, but I think I have some friends down there right now for that double-bill. Hmmm...

Yes, DR George, it is! It is a fantastic film about the 1932 trip Alice Liddell, the girl for whom Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, made to New York around the age of 80 for Carroll's centenary celebration. The Hatter, Gryphon, and other characters from the book are Jim Henson creations and they're rather sinister as they keep appearing in the old lady's dementia. The celebration at Columbia University, with the chorus singing (as I recall) "The Lobster Quadrille," is her epiphany when she finally realizes how much Carroll loved her and why her mother stopped his communication with her is truly heartbreaking. Peter Gallasgher is very charming as a young reporter hoping to capitalize of Alice's famous. Everyone should preorder this film. Coral Browne is amazing as Alice.

And then there's the current revival of the Jack O'Brien production at The Met right now starring Patricia Racette in all three one-acts. -Along with the formidable Stephanie Blythe. Alas, Mr. O'Brien changed the order of the operas, and ends the evening with Giannia Schicchi - so that the evening ends on a light(er) note. Alas, having to sing "O mio babbino caro" after the rigors of Suor Angelica is not the most ideal situation.

I love the Muppets and especially "The Muppet Show!" Only the first three seasons have been released on complete DVDs, but hopefully, the rest will be. "The Muppet Movie" is my favorite Muppet movie...probably because it was the first.

I pretty much figured that. :-\
-
It has remained gray and cold here. A very bleak November day.
-
When I went downstairs, I had time to watch last week's LAW & ORDER before I started cooking lunch. Elliott Gould was the primary guest star in a very entertaining and often surprising case. As is often the case with this show, everyone is not who he seems to be.
-
And that was certainly the case with last night's CASTLE where there were lots of people hiding behind false identities. This was probably the best episode of the season in terms of a complex, well-written story with lots of surprises. And I loved the Alexis subplot. Her dad was SO proud of her efforts, and it gave the episode, which was filled with VERY cold-hearted people otherwise, a nice bit of warmth around the edges.
-
I spent the rest of the afternoon with GIMME SHELTER on Blu-ray. Finally saw the entire movie, a very unusual documentary in which the concert elements were the almost least important thing.
-
The commentary was several years old, and it was pieced together from individual comments from three participants, but it was very interesting to hear their takes on the Stones, the Hells Angels, Melvin Belli, etc. Enjoyed listening to it.
-
The other bonus features included four outtakes, a 90-minute call-in radio show (excerpted from four hours) the day after the concert, two photograph galleries of beautiful black and white and color shots, and three trailers.

Arriving in the mail today was Season 5 of LOST on Blu-ray. It doesn't come out until December 8th, so I probably won't start on it until Friday. Right now, I'd like to take tomorrow off and only rewatch A CHRISTMAS TALE on Blu-ray on Thanksgiving Day. So that would make it Friday to start on LOST.

DR Ginny - Do you think I should forward this "hint" to your DH Richard? ;)

Granted I've only seen TRITTICO one time in addition to this Blu-ray I reviewed, but both live on stage and on the Blu GIANNI did indeed come last. Is the order "usually" different? I thought it was always Tabarro, Suor, Gianni.

Did you get the "standard" or the Ultimate Dharma Edition?

Thank You, DR Ginny.
-I guess I was more "shocked" than anything else about yesterday's email. It was just something I was so totally not expecting.
Your mother is pregnant? ;D

Um, no thanks, DR Jose, but if you happen across a good deal on a book truck, let him know! I've said many times that I'd like one for household rearranging projects.
-
Work session is over - productive, I suppose. Major restructuring of the book, which had to be done.
-
We are still not approved and the woman who has been causing all the delays and all the nitpicking is STILL doing it - I'm trying to be calm, but I am about to blow it big time.

Oh, DUH!!!
I was thinking back to a rather misguided production put on by a regional opera company a few years ago. They ended with Suor. -They, too, pulled the hat trick of featuring the same soprano in all three operas. The re-ordering of the evening was made in deference to the singer.
-
Now I need to hop off-line and get some writing done. Then, I have an evening of leisure TV watching ahead of me. Yay!
WBBL.

Thank You, DR Ginny.

Actually, that news I could have handled.

UGH! I just shuddered - and not in the good way:

And now I need to head out to run an errand and then meet up with a friend for dinner and then head back here and pack for my trip down to Richmond tomorrow since I'll be leaving as soon as I'm done playing/working tomorrow, so...
Laters...
-
Well, I won't say I blew it big time, but I did leave a message seething with frustration, explained why this woman was doing what she was doing and how inaccurate it was - just outlined everything. The head guy then called me, asked me a couple of questions and I laid it out again for him how preposterous what this woman was saying was, and he said he'd call me right back. He didn't, but about five minutes later I had an e-mail saying: This is approved. Hoo and ray! This woman has been causing everyone from every label the same kind of grief for so long (I gather others have had it even worse) that the labels, apparently, are banding together to try and prevent this from ever happening again, because the head guy most certainly wants to find a way to make this less of a headache for his people and for us.

Kelsey Grammer Is in Talks for ‘La Cage aux Folles’
Have the Weisslers signed on as co-producers ::)
I wasn't sure we needed another revival so soon after the Daniel Davis production. Now I'm sure we don't.

BK, I thought the problem woman worked for the label. If not, for whom does she work?

I think we need a trivia contest in order to reveal the Holy Grail.

I'd never be able to figure it out. :P

Hello, everyone.
It was a glorious day here. Chilly at night--low 50's--but it warmed up to the 70's quite early. I think MattH would love it.
-
I was in need of a Mental Health Day today and took it as such. But I actually got quite a bit done--lot of odds and ends--and that felt good. Now I'm doing laundry (obligatory mention).
-
HOLY GRAIL CONGRATS to BK!
-
Thank You, DR Ginny.

That's what came to my mind, too. :D

VIBES OF WHATEVER-IS-NEEDED to JOSE!
-
Oy! My roommate's grandchildren are here. They're cute kids, but NOT quiet.
My roommie: "I don't like the way you pee in my house." <said to her grandson>
It may be an interesting evening.
-
On that note, and risking TMI, I'll depart.
TTFN.
-
CONGRATS ON THE HOLY GRAIL APPROVAL, BK!!
Is it final and for sure??
-
Oh, Jeanne! You have such a perfect quote to put under your posts.
"I don't like the way you pee in my house."
-
BK, I thought the problem woman worked for the label. If not, for whom does she work?
No, she works for the studio that originally made the two films. I will say that the head guy and the guy in charge of music clearance have been absolutely wonderful to me, and I think they know, finally, how harmful this woman has been. I think it will be much easier from now on, and I'm hoping they clear my next requested title.
-
I celebrated at Hugo's with some mac and cheese - I'm really quite full.
-
Middle-of-the-page Holy Grail dance in BK's honor!
-
I am so breathing easier right now. Now if I could just get these other labels to ease the hell up on their release schedules - I've told them all in no uncertain terms that if they keep going down this road they will kill it for everyone. This week alone we had two major two CD sets announced by Intrada, FSM began taking preorders for a 15 CD box set of Rozsa music (at $180 a pop), and this Friday LaLaLand is announcing not one, not two, but THREE limited editions. The latter is just blind, stupid gluttony and there is NO excuse for it. I let my big online dealer know about my announcement for next week and HE informed me that there was the possibility of two more FSM "regular" titles being announced. I went ballistic, needless to say and said that was insanity in light of the 15 CD set - he agreed to try and push the FSM announcement until after ours - I hope he sticks to it, because people don't have this kind of dough and we all suffer - things that even six months ago were selling out in a day or two are now taking weeks, sometimes months to sell out - that's what this gluttony has done.
-
I do think our Holy Grail title will be a must-have for any serious collector, and since a few of this week's announcements will definitely be around for a while, I'm hoping we do okay - this is the first time we'll be doing 1500 units of something.
-

Will it be the same price?
-
It's Heading Home time.
Until later!
-
Yes, our usual 19.98 price but incredible value for money - two complete scores on one CD, around seventy-eight minutes. For a long time I was going to make it two CDs for 23.98, but since I was able to get all the score cues on the CD I decided to go that route. There was quite a bit of source music on one of the scores, but some of it wasn't by the composer and all of it added a big 0 to the music and really had nothing whatsoever to do with anything, other than they needed something coming out of a radio or TV. That sort of completist I'm not, and I think it makes for a very weird listening experience. The other score's source cues were also all radio related and really were disruptive because their style was so 100% different than the actual score.
-
I should think we'd best get to page six. I know DAW is gone for the week, but he doesn't post THAT much every day and we've been quite low for us.
-
Who else is errant and truant? Where's Jane, for example?
-
I watched a couple of older films tonight, or I should say rewatched since I had seen both before.
I began with THE EPIC THAT NEVER WAS, the story of the aborted 1937 filming of I, CLAUDIUS. Hadn't watched this in a while, and enjoyed seeing all of the clips and interviews again.
-
Then I watched THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, the 1934 original which I recorded off TCM-HD last night. The film looked quite a bit better than I had ever seen it looking before, but that shootout at the end is so un-Hitchcock, and I found it sort of flat overall. Very uncharismatic leads, I think.
-
Then I skimmed through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. My guys were there today in three brief scenes, but that's better than nothing, so it was a pleasure to see them. They're on tomorrow, too.
-
Page Six Dance!!!
-
I ended my evening with tonight's NCIS episode. It was entertaining, but the murderer was easy to spot. Sean Murray has indeed lost weight. His character on the show claimed to have lost 15 pounds, but it looks more like 25 or 30 to me.
-
And I'm taking the day off tomorrow. I got some Blu-rays in the mail which I'll consider watching, but I just want another day of leisure. I really enjoyed last Saturday.
-
I just watched the Muppets on the DWS finale.
-
I have always enjoyed watching THE EPIC THAT NEVER WAS....one of the first 'behind the scenes' documentaries I ever saw.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm......did This Trouble Making Woman work for the studio or did she marry into the morass?
-
I liked THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL and THE MUPPETS TAKE NEW YORK as well.
What word in English means both "meaningful" and "power of attorney."
-
MR BK exited the premises.
-
Watching THE TWO FACES OF DR JEKYLL on dvd. Mr Hyde in this version is the handsome, suave, hedonistic side of the duo.
-
I'm heading downstairs to go to bed.
Good night!
-
Oh Mr Hyde in this 1960 Hammer Film just ran into a very young, thin, impossibly handsome Oliver Reed playing a ruffian in a low bar.....Mr Reed did not yet have the scar on his face that he later got in a bar fight.
-
Even the guest left.
-
Where is Jane?
-
Most unseemly.
-
You'd think it was Thanksgiving week or something.
-
I'm almost finished with my viewing for the evening.
-
But not quite.
-
MR BK is back and now we have 2 guests.
-
So I guess I shouldn't post on BroadwayWorld.com unless I want to be kicked around again.
-
Hi, dear ones - I just had a note from Keith... it ain't good news.
He just returned from the hospital. At about 11am yesterday morning, Jane was hiking with Sherlock. A Newfoundland (a big dog) was tagging along and while she was jogging part of the trail, the Newfie veered into her and she fell quite forcefully on her right arm and shoulder. Fortunately, she was able to reach Keith by cell phone at the gym. Based on her hiking location and the extent of physical damage, she couldn’t move (let alone walk), and was lifted into a ranger’s vehicle, and ultimately the Lassner car—at which point they went to the Ashland Community Hospital Emergency Center.
The docs gave her morphine and took x-rays. After orthopedic consultation, a they performed a CT-scan. Jane has a severe proximal humerus fracture (a 4-part break) or, in layman’s terms, a bad broken shoulder, and will need corrective surgery, which will take place tomorrow morning. She has been in the hospital since yesterday, and will probably come home Friday or Saturday. This is a difficult and complex fracture and will either require pins and plates, or a more radical shoulder replacement. The ortho doc won’t know until he examines the femoral head of the bone. Regardless, her right arm range-of-motion will be impacted after the injury heals. She’s in a lot of pain and “pain management” is why she is in the hospital pre-surgery.
They are fortunate to have a fine group of orthopedic specialists in Ashland.
Though she’s at Ashland Community Hospital, please hold your calls until Keith gives the go ahead. When the time is appropriate, I’ll give you her direct-line.
I know you send her your best wishes for a safe and successful surgery!
Upshot, Jane is off-the-board until further notice for obvious reasons.
Keith sounds reasonable, but I know he is terribly distressed over this. I'm guessing the boys have been told by now. I'll keep you all informed of how our girl is doing, as I have news.
-
If you buy 15 movies for $5, wouldn't you expect that at least one was worth seeing?
-
OMG DR PENNYO - what a shock! Thanks for sharing. Vibes of course on the way for DR JANE and her family.

Thanks, JRand... I'll send your vibes to Keith for our poor girl...

We do not need another revival. This is simply preposterous. Now watch: it will be a huge hit.
1) I have some friends who really, really liked the Donmar Warehouse production which is being brought stateside. -And, apparently, Harvey Fierstein liked it a lot better then the recent Broadway revival.
2) As for Kelsey Grammer, well... I've heard the tapes from his Sweeney Todd in L.A. that he did with Christine Baranski - in fact, it was Ms. Baranski who "shared" those tapes with me - and, well... Umm... The word "pitchy" comes to mind. :-\

bk - Is it possible that the plethora of new releases is "simply" related to the upcoming holiday season? November and December are traditionally "heavy" months for book publishers (too).
-
In other news...
I decided to spend the rest of my lottery winnings on some wine and cheese at Casellula (http://www.casellula.com) a couple of hours ago. As always, the staff took very good care of me and friend, Bradley. In fact, they ended up comping at least one component of our meal - an extra cheese, a "sample" entree, a new dessert, a glass (or two) of port... Needless to say, it was a very nice meal. :)
-
And since I have to be functional in 9 hours, well...
Goodnight.

I wish that were the case, but this glut has been slowly happening since June and has just reached epic proportions. The fact is, December will be relatively light for the other labels.

I can't find Jane's e-mail address - can someone send it to me please?
-
Took a hot shower and am now listening to CDs. Still overly full from my 3:30 mac and cheese.
-
I can't find Jane's e-mail address - can someone send it to me please?
BK, I sent you a PM.
-
Well, I'm going to do something that I haven't done in a long time...I'm going to go to bed before 2:00 am! I think I only got about four hours of sleep last night (this morning) and I need to sleep. So I am now going to bed.
Good night, all. :)
