And the word of the day is: STEENTH!
NYTW Plans to Produce Off-Broadway Musical Revival Concert Series
James C. Nicola, artistic director of the New York Theater Workshop, has announced plans to present a series of concerts of previously produced Off-Broadway musicals.
Similar to the City Center Encores! series — which offers great American musicals in concert form — the plan is to produce three shows per season, starting next fall, in low-tech (no set) concert versions.
"We could go for decades and never run out of interesting things, particularly if you're not too terribly rigid about defining Off-Broadway," Nicola told The New York Times.
Al Carmines and Maria Irene Fornes' Promenade (1969) as well as Doug Dyer, Gretchen Cryer and Peter Link's Iphigenia in Concert (1971) have been mentioned as titles to launch the series.
Works by Nancy Ford and the team of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt are also being considered. The Times reports Doug Wright, Michael Greif and James Lapine have expressed interest in participating in the new series.
"I'm also hoping it would be a breeding ground for revised versions of things that maybe in the moment didn't find their final form," added Nicola.
Tuesday morning greetings! It's a gaw-jus (as DR PennyO would day) day here in SW Ohio and I'm going to take my mother out to do some errands. This will be my first driving since my right eye exploded, so wish me luck.
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And the oatmeal has been consumed, the coffee has been brewed and is currently being sipped, and another load of laundry is in the washer. Sounds like a full day to me! ;)
I didn't watch the Oscars, but I bet Michael Jackson was included and he made fewer films than Farrah or Bea Arthur.
I just read this:
Why weren't Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur included in the "In Memoriam" package on Sunday's Oscars telecast?
Academy spokesperson Penny Melidonian pointed out that both actresses were better known for television. "We cannot include everyone," she said.
One more comment re: something DRs MattH and TCB said last night about Tom Hanks just saying the winner for Best Picture (and not listing them).
Here is my point. I watched the entire show. But if you asked me to list you right now the entire 10 nominated movies. Well I couldn't do it.

Do you get to spend the afternoon with a printer salesman, too?

Two Yanks for DR Elmore -- that could be a title of..something...
Last night, BK wrote:
"I had an interesting call from a producer in NY who will be doing sort of an off-Broadway version of Encores for off-B'way musicals. First up is Promenade. He wanted to know about recording the series, so I gave him some information and he asked me if he could use Kritzerland's name in his press release and I said sure - no harm, really."
Bruce - this immediately reminded me of something that I remembered being publicly announced a couple years ago, but then I hadn't heard any more about it.
I looked up my notes from the time and found this -- does this sound like the same project / people? What made me think of it was your reference to Promenade.QuoteNYTW Plans to Produce Off-Broadway Musical Revival Concert Series

DR Elmore - break a leg tonight! Who else is on the panel with you?
I just got a box o' books from Chicken Soup for the Soul - "Thanks, Mom" is hitting the bookstores on March 23, for Mothers' Day sales... and I have a story in there!!! Got a couple of author events in Idaho next week, and one the actual week of Mothers' Day, up in La Canada - pronounced Lah Can-yah-dah - near LA...
Lots of new TV episodes tonight including (for me) NCIS, NCIS: LA, LOST, SOUTHLAND, and the season finale of WHITE COLLAR.
Note SOUTHLAND, DR JRand!
I did something very painful this morning. I really don't know how i did this. But when i went to get something out of the cupboard i smashed the door right into my nose. My nose was immediately in terrible pain and my head hurt. I knew i didn't break it but i almost felt light headed. It really hurt.
I put an ice pack on it. And took two motrin. I now have a big scrape on my nose and it still feels very tender. Ouch! :(

Well, new Lipid test results are in and thanks in large part to Jane's incessant nagging, there has been a ginormous improvement:
Total Cholesterol down 29% to 161
Bad Cholesterol down 39% to 84
Good Cholesterol up 19% to 37
Triglycerides are down 31% to 210 (still a little high but an expected side-effect of my other meds.
I just wish I knew how much is attributable to the Zocor, and how much diet. I insisted on trying the Zocor, for which there is an el-cheapo generic rather than the budget-busting Lipitor. Cheap may not be best but it seems good enough!

PS to Jane - I took Keith's recommendation on Mayo and trashed the low-fat for the lite - much, much better; I can live with it.

Giulietta Masina -- LA STRADA, JUILETTE OF THE SPIRITS, FRED AND GINGER

Ginny good luck at jury duty. With luck they will take one look at your eye and send you home. ;) BTW, how is your eye today?
Thanks for all the jury duty vibes. While I'm usually pretty open to new experiences, this is one I dread. Maybe I watch too much Law & Order.
Speaking of OUCH! DR Jennifer, how is your nose?

Could you name all five of the nominees for Best Supporting Actor, or the five for Best Cinematography? They named all of them before they announced the winners of those awards.

right when it happened i felt extreme pain in my nose and my head.
My head has a constant light pain. That's what i'm more concerned about since i'm not sure exactly what to do about it.

Who sang the song "Feelings"?
Ginny, have you ever had jury duty before?
Nope - and that's probably why I'm so freaked.
Who sang the song "Feelings"?
Ginny - maybe you'll find jury duty interesting?
I doubt they'll even pick you, once you explain to them that you're sure the person is guilty or the cops never would have arrested him. ;D

No, that's not the ticket. If you say "I could never convict another human being because it's not my place to judge another's actions" that will get you off quicker.

I'm with you. I'm extremely prone to nightmares & I'm sure doing jury duty could trigger some whoppers. I also can't sit still for long periods. They don't let you snack either, even if your blood sugar is low. I don't think they permit you to get up & stretch. If I don't walk around I can get leg cramps. I can see the reaction now when I hopped up, jumped around & yelled OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! ;D
Ginny, that not being able to move around is why I thought your doctor would give you a medical excuse. I have a medical excuse, not for any of the above reasons.
I'm not sure Morris Albert had any other hits.

LOL, here they have stretch breaks quite often, jurors can have bottled water and if it's a problem judges will make whatever accomodations that need to be made. Jurors are treated like royalty. I haven't seen many cases that would cause nightmares...put you to sleep, yes...nightmares...not likely
Guess I'll hop off-line now and get some writing done. How do you write about nothing? Ugh!
The SEINFELD writers did it for years!
Re: The Oscar In Memorium topic:I guess they're expecting a lot of people to die this year, eh?
Andy Borowitz of The Borowitz Report has tweeted:

Morris Albert had no other hits because he lost a gigantic plagiarism case on "Feelings," which he also "wrote." It put the kibosh on his career."Feelings"? Or "Stealings"?
I was on a panel of three with Peter Mintun and David Kenney, who has a radio show "Everything Old Is New Again" on WBAI and WBAI online. He loves my work and raved about BK's albums when we were talking before the show. I thought our moderator talked way too much and didn't follow through with all of us after asking a question. After the show I suppose we talked to a group of around 25-30 people, and I had a good time. I descrbed YANK! as a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical play influenced by Noel Coward's BITTERSWEET and written by Frank Loesser and filtered through a post-Sondheim sensibility. I don't hear any Kern or Rodgers in the score, but I do hear Loesser, as well as Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer and Jule Styne.Yeah, but did you like the score?

Elmore, I reviewed a wonderful opera Blu-ray today that you should check out: Cavalli's Ercole Amante. I wasn't that familiar with it, but boy was it stupendously silly and enjoyable in this Netherlands production. Hilarious costumes and sets.

And then I watched LOST which was, for me, the best episode thus far this season. I loved it.
I have been shlepping boxes to the new house for days and am very, very sore.
This afternoon I offically jumped on the Bundle Bandwagon. I got rid of Ma Bell (well, Qwest) and now have internet, cable, and phone service from Comcast for $89.00 a month.
If the performance is as hot as the installer, I should be quite pleased.
