Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nauseating, and now it is time for you to post until the nauseous cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
And now - BK in his bed.

I can't believe that Lena Horne has left us. . . .:(

Lena Horne = :'(
-
R.I.P. Lena Horne
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
VixMom, loved the Bunnies!!!
-
No book.
-
Sorry to hear about Lena Horne. She was one of the first celebrities I got to interview bak when I was in college and she was touring with her one-woman show. I was in awe of her then and have remained that way through the years.
-
TOD: I guess my favorite suspense film would have to be "M," largely because of Peter Lorre's mesmerizing performance, which helps keep you nervous as the film progresses. Of all of Hitchcock's films, "Suspicion" keeps me going until the hokey ending -- and perhaps it is because the ending feels so wrong that, in its twisted way, it works so well.
-
John, thanks for posting the Pacific Overtures clip!
I am one of the few that think this is a BRILLIANT show. It has a solid place in my all time favorite Top 10 and most people look at me like I'm crazy. Most people don't even know what show I'm talking about.
I went to the Tonys last year and while I certainly had a good time, you're absolutely right, the earlier shows were so special. Now the show is staged for the lowest common denominator (sorry all you non-theatre folk) and you would NEVER get that number on any television awards show. 7 minutes and 15 seconds of brilliance!!!

Sorry to hear about Lena Horne, though i was never a fan.
When I saw THE WIZ, all I could think was.....even in BEACH BLANKET BINGO, Annette Funicello's mouth matched the playback....

Hope you are feeling better by now, Bruce!

Feel better vibes for MR BK.
TOD:
NORTH BY NORTHWEST - which I first saw as a second feature at the drive in with a movie I have forgotten. When it started, everyone in the car wanted to leave....some old CARY GRANT movie! But we stayed just to see what would happen....and never left until the end!
And of course.....THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and THE PARALLAX VIEW.
-
Oh....Fotosizer saves your ORIGINAL photo, too - just gives it to you in a smaller or larger size in the same file.
-
Lovely photos, DR TCM....and DR VIXMOM.
-
Off to do some Monday things.....and I hope to get THE CALL today to pick up the VAIO.
I would switch the two top teams on the TAR finale.....but it was a fun fnale.
HMMMMMM....when I am sitting at the G4 - my face is reflected back to me in the shiny silver Apple logo on the base.
hi, Jack!
-
I know what you mean about double features, Jrand.
I remember a double bill where the main feature was Elvis in CLAMBAKE and the second feature was WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL, and I've basically forgotten CLAMBAKE (except for one scene where Elvis was water-skiing).
-
Good morning, all! I have a couple of errands to run and then I am back here to continue the identification of the McGlinn CDs. Last night I watched the first episode of this season of THE TUDORS. Yep, DR Matt H, Thomas Culpepper, or possibly his brother, was accused of raping a park keeper's wife. One can always count on political circles to be filled with sleazeballs, I guess!
DR Ginny, I guess the answer to your inquiry several days ago is, yes, I could use a ride to the Canton Airport on Sunday. Right now I have little to relate, and I feel extremely boring today.
-
Grrrrr...since I was at my sister's yesterday for a combination Monther's Day/niece and nephew birthday celebration, I did not watch THE AMAZIN' RACE finale last night (thought I did set Tivo to record it.) But while perusing Twitter before bed, I came across a tweet by a nitwit who blatantly spilled out the names of the winners!
Grrrrrr... I am doubly annoyed about this!

TOD:

DR TCM? Does Mr Robert Osbourne walk among us?
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And our radiators are on. Again. It's May 10!?!?!?!?
-
It's always sad when a legend passes, but like we've said before here--there's no tragedy in the death of an old man and the same holds true for women.
I've enjoyed Lena Horne and her song stylings. I always regretted passing a chance to see her one-woman show on B'way back in the 80's, but I did see her perform as part of an evening of jazz at the Academy of Music in Philly. She was fantastic!
-
As for the Topic if the Day...
Well...
They may not fit the mold exactly, but...
"The Usual Suspects"
"Slumdog Millionaire"
-
Good morning!
Another very chilly morning here, but it made walking very pleasant. Warmer temps coming tomorrow.
-
It is going to be a gorgeous day here. And I'm taking the day off so I'll be out and about.
-
Page Two Dance!!!
-
I still have lots of TV I haven't gotten to yet including THE OFFICE from Thursday and THE TUDORS and BROTHERS & SISTERS from last night. I'd like to crack open one of those Blu-rays in the to-watch stack, but we'll see how I manage my time today.
-
TOD:
I can remember the first movie where I wanted to hide under the seat at the theater because I was so scared and couldn't bear to watch the ending - TARGET EARTH. I rewatched this a few years ago, and it was SUCH a dopey movie that I laughed at how it made my cringe so badly when I was a little boy.
Some movies hold up to scrutiny years later. This one didn't.
-
I wasn't the biggest fan of Lena Horne, but I certainly appreciated her talent, and I enjoyed her "dropped-in" musical performances in MGM musicals. I never got to see her one woman show either.
-
Monday morning greetings! I've been to the post office already this morning to mail a 5th birthday present to Cincinnati. For the first time in my life, I used the automated postage machine, or I'd still be standing in line at the counter.
-
Lena Horne was the greatest!
-
I don't watch THE AMAZING RACE, but I was rather delighted when I read who won. I follow the progress of teams through recaps each week.
These guys started out doing poorly and seemed to have gotten better as the season progressed. Of course, as with most of the teams, there's always trouble along the way, some good luck or bad luck, all of which makes the show so watchable.
-

Ditto about PACIFIC OVERTURES, DR Ben! It was my first Sondheim show on B'way (and the first time I ventured up to the city by myself.) I still think the appearance of the ship at the end of "Four Black Dragons" is one of the top moments of stage imagery I've ever experienced.
And yes, the Tonys are not what they were. I miss the days when they were broadcast from an actual B'way house, with an invited, adult audience that knew how to behave in a theatre (but then, there is the '71 broadcast that had the seats filled with people who all looked like they wished they were anywhere else but in NYC on a Sunday night.)
-
It's been so long that I don't recall the details, but back when I was doing publicity, some guy came into my office and announced that his mother was Lena Horne.
I don't remember why, but I didn't believe him.
Does anybody know if she had a son?

DR Druxy, according to IMDB, Lena Horne had 2 children by her first husband.

Well, no day off for me today or this week! A big box of Fox Blu-rays arrived just now, and I'll be starting with THE EDGE today. The film is only 94 minutes (I think) and there don't appear to be any bonus features, so it shouldn't be a demanding afternoon.
-
Also in the box is Steven Seagal's MARKED FOR DEATH (which I've never seen and can't say that I'm dying to) and the individual issues of Mel Brooks' HIGH ANXIETY, ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS, and HISTORY OF THE WORLD, Part 1. I reviewed all of those Brooks films in mini reviews when the bog box set of his films came out on Blu-ray at Christmas, so I'll have to rewatch the movies and flesh out those reviews some for the individual entries.

Can You re-post PACIFIC OVERTURES site?
-
You know, PACIFIC OVERTURES was filmed in the theater for Japanese television, and it's a shame that performance has never been released in a commercial videotape or DVD. I have seen it, and it's quite wonderful, something fans of the show would really LOVE to have.
-
Now I need to head down and get cleaned up for my lunch out today with best friend John. I hope I'll have time to view something before he gets here. Possibly THE OFFICE. We'll see.

Last night DR Jose wrote:
DR Jennifer - "Californication" is just starting up there in Canada?!?!? It started on Showtime back in 2007. -Although, it seems like it's been around longer. Then, again, I guess I'm thinking of David Duchovny's other series, "Red Shoe Diaries".
I believe it is on the movie network at the same time as in the US. But I don't get the movie network.
A channel called Showcase (this is the same channel that showed Jada Pinkett Smith's show) started CALIFORNICATION in april.

This morning on the radio, the announcer told about the passing of Lena Horne and said his favorite recording of hers was Santa Baby.

I don't know if you'd be so happy if you had seen the show last night. The winning team started the night by doing something which i considered very ugly and made me want them to lose in a big way. They were 3-6 hours behind the 2nd place team and they arrived at the airport. The then 2nd place team (the cowboys) were lying on the floor in line. And dan and jordan decided to put their bags in front of theirs and take their space in front of them. And they would not move. This did not really affect the leg of the race. But it was classless and really ugly.
And to me the winning team did not really improve. They did do well in the last leg. But up until last night they showed nothing. They were always in the middle. They did not show any physical superiority or mental. They were whiney. I can appreciate that the one brother loves the show and it was his dream. But i hate when teams that are not good at the race win. Although that said the cowboys were awful last night. They did not force dan and jordan aside at the airport. They stood like idiots during another challenge. And they could not figure out about the spinning. Oh and the final challenge was pathetic and way too easy! (although that is neither teams fault).
-
I'm up and not sure if I'm feeling better or not. I did have some weird dreams - not bad, but weird, and I was also asleep by eleven so I did get another nine hours.

I came in and tried to wake up the computer only it wouldn't wake up - then I noticed the router light and modem lights were all off. Then I looked at the rest of the kitchen stuff - all working. Odd. I went to the main power strip - it looked fine. I moved the plug a little in towards the socket and voila. So, I don't know why, suddenly, arbitrarily, the plug would have come a tiny bit loose, but everything is fine now.

Rent is over and has been put to bed. And like Morales. I felt nothing. I don't believe the cast and I were ever on the same "level" when it came to the material. And it seemed that my passion for this work (and others, because this feeling happens a lot when I close a show) was on a different level than that of the cast. Yes, it was a good solid show, the reviews were great, the audiences loved it, but there was no passion for the material. Yes, they loved to sing the songs - and they sang them very well - but there was nothing behind it. No matter how hard you try, you can't teach passion.
-
Druxy, the Oregonian obit mentioned only a daughter of Horne.
She did have a son who predeceased her...but I have no idea if he was the guy who came up to my office that day.

Nice hearing about Elena Kagan's Supreme Court nomination. She was at law school literally after me (I graduated spring 1983, she started law school fall 1983, i think). I was told that I'd met her and actually talked to her for a while when I went back for a visit in spring 1984, that she was at a student group function that I was at, but she wasn't THE "Elena Kagan" then. (I do remember Eliot Spitzer and especially his wife Silda quite well from my law school days, but they were students while I was there, or maybe I have a sense of future scandal brewing. :) )
I MAY HAVE MET ELENA KAGAN - the title of my next essay

Awaiting CDs. I think I feel a little better than yesterday, although there's still a bit of queasiness. So, after we're done shipping I'll see if I feel I can get some food down - maybe some toast or a poached egg on toast or something like that. And then the afternoon will be resting on the couch.

Today is my day off, before we begin our massive Payment Correction project at work. It is good practice for me, in case I don't receive one of the "Exempt Letters" from my employer regarding our new Furlough of State Employees. Furloughs begin on July 12.
I plan on spending most of the day reading a new book that I received from a brash young author that I dined with on Friday night.

Tom, I had a blast! And in fact, it is now Olympia Brain picture time!!
-
Now that I have some time to sit and write about my trip to the HHW gathering in Olympia, Washington to see THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X....
First off it was so wonderful to see my HHW neighbors friends to the north, TCB, George, and Ann. I just adore these three people! It was a shame that DR Jed could not join us, but understandable...someone has to stay home with our first HHW baby, Toby.
It was great to have a chance to chat each, and I look forward to the next time we all get together!

The "hokey" ending makes it a surprise ending. I think if the movie were filmed today it would have begun to end the way we suspected it would, but then the heroine would somehow find an inner strength & triumph.
-
It was also a great pleasure to meet David Wechter.
I did meet him very briefly when I was in LA to see the first production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, however this time I actually got to sit and chat with him at length and I can say that David is such a nice guy and I was especially thrilled to find that he had directed two of the most wonderful character actors ever (in the 1980s film MALIBU BIKINI SHOP), Frank Nelson and Kathleen Freeman. I must now seek out this film, which sadly is not yet on DVD.
Next time I am in LA I will make it a point to at least have lunch with David, if he is available. Just a very neat guy to talk to.

Jennifer I like Duchovny whch helps with this show. His character was wronged first, making his faults a little more acceptable. At times I had issues with the series even while enjoying it. I suppose it is interesting I liked it and MattH didn't. ;)
-
Nice photos & details MBarnum. :)
-
Having seen the LA production, it was interesting to compare. There were performers in the LA production that I thought were absolute perfection, but I did find that there were some in the Olympia production that ended up preferring.
I thought the Olympia Fred and Joyce were wonderful, and in many ways liked them better then the LA versions.
I was quite impressed with the actress who played the Olympia Yoni. The LA Yoni was perfect, but there was something about Olympia Yoni that I really enjoyed. The gal who played her is a fine character actress, and I would enjoy seeing her in another play someday. She reminds me of a Carol Burnett type.
There were times that I liked the Olympia Zubrick, but DR Cason is Zubrick, in my eyes.
I liked the actress who played Private Parts (though I didn't think this was a good part for her) and I kept imagining that she might have also made a very good Yoni. She was certainly very pretty, and I loved her hair. The LA Private Parts was completely silent (which worked great) but this Private Parts had some lines, which I found odd, and it really added nothing to the show, and in fact detracted from the General Mills/Private Parts scenes.
The Olympia Brain was completely different then the LA Brain...and I have to say that I LOVED THE LA BRAIN. The guy who played the Brain in LA is my hero. You never saw his face and yet he stole the show.
I thought the Olympia Brain actor was quite good as well and played totally different, but I must admit that I preferred the LA Brain costume which was a giant floating brain with glasses. It was cute and funny and endearing. But maybe that is just me. The Olympia brain had the actor with a giant brain protruding out of his head. It just didn't have the endearing cuteness that I loved about the LA brain. Plus, when the Brain states "...and I don't even have a head," it made no sense, when we could see that certainly he does have a head...(the LA brain was all brain, there was no head).
DR George was part of the ensemble, and honestly I thought he would have made a good Private Parts, but I did enjoy his rendition of a country hick.
My other favorite in the play was the nurse. She did a great job.
The narrator was also good .
All in all the play was a lot of fun and I am glad to have now seen two versions of it!

After spending an hour or so at the Yacht Club party I continued my tour around downtown...I loved this very art deco building (athought I don't know if the art deco-ness really shows as well in this photo)

The State Theatre, which BK was very interested in. I think DR George said it was built as a movie theatre in 1948.

More beautiful downtown architecture.
Some of downtown Olympia reminds me of downtown Medford, Oregon. Sadly, downtown Medford is pretty much a ghost town now, but when I was a kid it was the area to shop and dine.

Thank you for the tour of Olympia, DR MBarnum! Looks like a place I'd like!

Playbill.com is confirming the rumor that David Cromer will direct YANK! on Broadway. (not Igor Goldin, who directed it at the York)

Great photo spread, MBarnum!!!

Based on BK having gotten ill from dinner, perhaps it was better for me that I didn't get that aisle seat on that plane to Seattle on Friday.

Great photos, Mike!

DR Elmore,
Jack Wrangler comes across as such a nice, funny guy in that documentary I watched. I think I would have liked him a lot. I had forgotten how involved he was in Broadway in later years and it was interesting to find out more about his relationship with Margaret Whitting.
I think I may need to find a few of his movies on DVD.
-
thanks for the great photos, DR MBARNUM....and the BRAIN report!
Roxio? ROXIO? DR JMK them is fighting works.
Still NO VAIO....grrrrrrrr

Wow. You had a great walk, MBarnum!

The Capitol Theatre
(http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo146/mbarnum/Ebayandplay2010077.jpg?t=1273514199)
This marquee was renovated/restored/replaced just last year.
-
The very first theater that I ever did was Man of La Mancha, at the Capitol Theater in 1989. The group was then called Capitol Playhouse '24, but now they're called Capital Playhouse and they have their own theater. Jeff Kingsbury was and still is the managing director.
-
DR MBarnum, thank you for the charming tour of Olympia. The only spot missing is DR George's library. I've been told the hippies are still in Ashland.
-
I returned home from a hike with Sherlock totally drenched. My clothes are hanging up to dry & I have had oatmeal to warm me. The oatmeal didn't work. I'm going to take a nice long hot shower.
-
Finally got everything shipped, including a few more book orders. So, that's a load off. I'm feeling better than yesterday - and I think I may try to have a poached egg and toast in about an hour. Then again, maybe not.
-
I am going to get some Ginger Ale today, and maybe some sody crackers.
-

And I loved all the pictures, Mike! Especially the close-up of me with David and BK. :D

The number from Coco (http://www.bluegobo.com/content/production.php?var=2880146&video=10098) on the 1970 Tony Awards® ran almost 15 minutes!
-
This was very disheartening to read this morning...
Critical backlash at Julie Andrews tragic stage return (http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/newsstory.php/28127/critical-backlash-at-julie-andrews-tragic?sms_ss=facebook)
This is sad, but really...how could one expect her to sing?
I was going to say the same thing. WHat exactly was Dame Julie billed to do? I didn't think it was supposed to be a songfest.
I couldn't really tell from the article what she was supposed to do. Were the fans merely angry that she did not sing. Or was she not doing much of anything on stage. I think it's sad. But i would need more info to know if the fans were being jerks or if the situation was just misrepresented to them.
-
Thanks for the pictures and report DR MBarnum.
-
Thankfully it was sort of sunny today. STill cold (high of like 50F). But much better than the weekend. I had to take my flowers in. It was really cold.
-
I didn't get to bike at all this weekend. So i made myself go today even though it was cool. I can't wait till it gets warmer and less windy.
-
OK, signing off to prepare my script for tonight. I'm the "installing past-president" for Middletown-AAUW, so I have to fill in the names of the outgoing and newly-elected officers and review the flowery language. We're having our "end of year" dinner at The Golden Lamb (http://www.goldenlamb.com) in Lebanon.

Tomorrow is my aunt's birthday. And she selected a nice chinese restaurant. Yum.

Two CDs that I'd ordered from Amazon have just arrived! Barbra Streisand's 2-CD version of "Love Is the Answer" and the new 2-CD Broadway revival cast recording of A Little Night Music!
That's what I'll be listening to today!
-

Do you have any matzos? I find them more settling than soda crackers.

I was just thinking about COCO the other day whilst watching Rene Auberjonois (sp?) in THE PATRIOT. I've always thought the score was underapreciated, I think A WOMAN IS HOW SHE LOVES is especially excellent.

I have said that before here and been ridiculed because of it.
Don't you folks have the three volumes of BROADWAY'S LOST TREASURES on DVD? The COCO number is on one of those.

Today I saw this menu posted outside a Chinese Restaurant:

I think I'll skip this place.

My DSL has been wonky all afternoon. Pages take forever to load (if they load at all). I was able to get my entire review for THE EDGE written while I was trying a bunch of different websites and waitinf for them either to load or to choke my browser.

PRETTY KITTIES!! ;D
-
You know, PACIFIC OVERTURES was filmed in the theater for Japanese television, and it's a shame that performance has never been released in a commercial videotape or DVD. I have seen it, and it's quite wonderful, something fans of the show would really LOVE to have.
I have a ootleg-bay copy of that! ;)
-
Like that song; We were sailing along on Ootleg Bay

LOL Laura, yes that was much better than the photo of the bug in the window. :)

Jeanne reminds me of my beautiful Gaia, only Gaia's body was all black with a few brown highlights.

Important question: (to me anyway :) )
What train stations are closest to Scranton, PA? (say, under an hour or so away)
(preferably Amtrak, but if not Amtrak, anything)
-
Back from Jerry's Deli - I had two poached eggs and white toast, plus a side of white rice, accompanied by ginger ale. I feel okay right now.

Good-vibes you stay that way.

I hope you stay feeling well, too.

Trailways (bus) offers connecting service from the Amtrak station in Harrisburg.

Or maybe not. Well.. At least as far as Trailways is concerned. Oh...
It's Greyhound (http://www.greyhound.com) (1-800-231-2222) between Harrisburg and Scranton.
-
Thanks, jose.
But let's say someone from Scranton were going to pick me up at the train station and bring me to Scranton. What are the closest train stations to Scranton?
-
I think I did what Jose did & came up with Harrisburg. I was waiting to see if the all knowing DR Jose had better info than I found. Since he doesn't :o I think you may need to call Amtrak, and good luck with that.

I love the picture of the kitties sleeping!
-
Interesting, while watching something on the Food Network (Canada) they showed a promo for Top Chef Canada. I doubt it will be as good as the US version. But it's still exciting.
-
I really thought this afternoon would be totally free - but I have not stopped since nine this morning. Maybe that's good - took my mind off my tummy. I had to begin prepping two releases today, and that's always a lot of work when things have to be edited.
-
I have only read the first one hundred pages, so far; but I am in love with BK's autobiography. HIs writing style is so honest and so direct; I feel like he is talking just to me. Awesome!
-
Harrisburg seems to be 90 miles away from Scranton. No closer train station?
It really doesn't need to be Amtrak. (I like Amtrak, but it doesn;t have to be.)

That's the way I felt when I read Beverly Sills' autobiography...it was like she was just chatting and telling her stories to me, too. :)
I can't wait to start reading BK's autobiography...but I must. :(

There are no passenger trains remotely close to Scranton. New Jersey Transit will get you to Hackettstown, but then you'd be driving more than an hour.
The bus is your best bet.

Hmmm, Hackettstown sounds like a good bet. Thanks, Noel.

re: last night's THE AMAZING RACE FINALE

I don't watch THE AMAZING RACE, but I was rather delighted when I read who won. I follow the progress of teams through recaps each week.
These guys started out doing poorly and seemed to have gotten better as the season progressed. Of course, as with most of the teams, there's always trouble along the way, some good luck or bad luck, all of which makes the show so watchable.
The winners were brilliant in asking to be bumped to first class. That was what really made the difference. It was a great move and I'm glad they won
-
Thank you DR George. Of course we already have DR MattH to inform us when it is the last show of the season ;)
True, but now you can print out a list! :D
-
I was Ok with the winners of TAR. Not the winners that I had hoped for, but Ok. Such a good season! And I am ready for the next season!
-
Great photos MBarnum

Just finished watching CAPTIVE CITY (1952). Wow, what a good movie...I was in suspenders the whole time!
DR Druxy, I recorded it to DVDr for you and will get it in the mail this week. I don't know why, but whenever I record a movie from MGM HD onto a dvdr the picture is always smaller then normal. I hate that.
-
Love the kitty photos, Laura
-
Where has the day gone. I am on vacation all week, so of course the week is already zooming by.
I shall now eat some dinner whilst watching a Penny Singleton/Glenn Ford comedy.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Samantha.
-
Yes, it is Samantha's birthday....She's finishing up school and getting ready to move home for the summer..I think she's 22 today
-
Back from the AAUW dinner at the Golden Lamb. We had a nice surprise - all the information we'd received ahead of time said our entree choices would be turkey or chicken, but the server asked, "Do you want turkey or salmon?" No question for me and it was fabulous. We had salad, rolls, salmon (or turkey), vegetables, mashed potatoes, pie, and beverage, all for $17 including tax and tip.
Oh, and the 2010-11 officers are duly installed.
-
Happiest of birthdays to Samantha from Ginny, who she thinks is cute.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Samantha!
-
And now, I'm off. I need to get some canned cat food for my cat. This morning, I gave her the last of what there was and I must get some before tomorrow. Tonight will be some TV watching and tomorrow, I go to the dentist for my semi-annual check-up.
Until later!

But before I go...PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!

tomorrow, I go to the dentist for my semi-annual check-up.
We were supposed to get our teeth cleaned today only Keith's appointment was canceled. I then canceled mine as it was too far for me to drive one armed. I wish I had known sooner & made an appointment for PT. I can only go once this week as my therapist was not available today.

Happy Birthday, Samantha.

Oy, what a day! Busy, busy, busy, including placing a CL ad for free shtuff we wanted out of here. Suffice it to say, it's gone. :)
Spent the afternoon comparing the Criterion SPARTACUS to the new Blu. Review should be live tomorrow.
Found out, by way of research, that a certain famous film restorer is a major Frances Farmer fan! Love when that happens!
-
RIP Lena Horne
-
Mike I loved the tour! Thank you
so much for sharing your day with us
-
Laura Iloved allyur photos but one
-
JRand thank you for the resizer link!
-
Hey Jose! Thanks for the JetBlue link - I see there a flight to Portland - just in time for me to take possession of my new room in JMK's house
-
Never saw Lena Horne perform live, but I had a theater history prof in college who thought Barbra owed a lot of her style to imitating LH. Loss of another legend.
-
I am glad that you are feeling better BK - sounds likeyu had exactly the right meal to settle that tummy
-
The young lady who was awarded our AAUW scholarship tonight came over to me at the end of the evening to introduce herself. She was a 4th grader in Richard's gifted math/science class the year he retired. She's going to Miami University to major in math education. He was pleased to hear that.
-
I cannot believ how very cold it has gotten - we had to turn the heat backon

that is very nice to hear!

I must be feeling better because I'm actually really hungry. I may rustle up some more white rice, or get something really mild at Gelson's. Any suggestions?
-
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAMANTHA
(You Are Cute)
-
DR Mike, I certainly enjoyed your photogenic tour of Olympia. The city has fascinated me because of the cheap, bad movies I've rented from Netflix, quite a few of them featuring Michael Haboush. . .
-
Bruce, since the rice and eggs worked at lunch I suggest staying with that. Can you make it at home without going out?
-
I'm slowly setting up our new phone. Most important of all, I've got voice mail to work. :)
-
I had to drop off line several hours ago because the DSL just would not keep a connection. Seems to be working fine now.
-
This morning before lunch, I had time to watch THE OFFICE. It was one of the funniest episodes of the season. I really laughed out loud for most of the show.
-
I also had time to watch BROTHERS & SISTERS. Loved Scotty's Irish song at the end of the show, very emotional and beautifully and simply sung. The rest of the show was a lot of hand-wringing and melodrama that was somewhat tiresome.
-
When I got in from lunch, I watched THE EDGE. I had forgotten that it had a Jerry Goldsmith score. Blu-ray looked fine (great sound), but it was obvious this was meant to be an early Blu-ray release from Fox that got pushed back several years. They were using the MPEG-2 codec to compress the data on the disc, a codec Fox hasn't used since their earliest releases. And there was only a theatrical trailer on the disc for bonus features. Another movie promo on the disc was the Blu-ray of the remake of FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, one of Fox's earliest Blu-ray releases.
-
Next I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest and nothing in the previews.
-
When I went back down, I began watching documentaries on the making of more Hitchcock movies. I began with ROPE. Then I watched REAR WINDOW. And I finished with STAGE FRIGHT.
-
By that time, it was past time for me to start with CHUCK, so I'll have to put it off until later this week to watch.
-
Page Nine Dance!!!
-
So I concluded my evening viewing with tonight's exciting and suspenseful '24.' Oh, that Jack Bauer sure knows how to do torture the right way! ;D
-
I took a quick trip to Gelson's and got some white rice, ginger ale, and some flowers to brighten up the home environment.
-
Flowers are always nice.

Prayers and vibes to the people of Oklahoma who were devastated by tornadoes today
-
Looks like I'll be doing MARKED FOR DEATH on Blu-ray tomorrow for my work project. Unlike today's THE EDGE, I've never seen this movie. Maybe it'll be halfway decent like UNDER SIEGE was. Here's hoping....
-
Now I guess I'll close up shop here and head downstairs to go to bed.
Good night!
-
It was much cooler here today -- only in the 80s. It was glorious. I spent most of the day in the backyard.
-
It's 47 degrees here right now with 13 mph winds and rain. I really don't mind it

Good Evening!
And... I'm back from Carnegie Hall.
I had almost forgotten earlier that my friend, Tom, had an extra ticket tonight to tonight presentation of Mendelssohn's "Paulus" by the Oratorio Society of New York. So, I hopped on the D Train, detrained at 53rd & 7th, and walked up to the Hall.
It was a very good concert. I had forgotten(?) just how substantial "Paulus" is - the first half was about an hour and fifteen minutes, and the second half ran just about an hour. Good soloists, good chorus, good orchestra, and a nice interpretation by their conductor. Alas, during the tenor's final solo, the cello obligatto-ist seemed to be having some intonation issues. But at least he projected. ;)
-
DR Laura - That picture of the sleeping kitties belongs on a greeting card, refrigerator magnet, poster and/or calendar! CUTE!!

Not as long as BK is still occasionally vomiting on the ground. ;D

DR MBarnum - Thanks for your photographic tour of Olympia. I still can picture the dome of the capitol building there from when we would drive through there on the the way down to Portland.
As for the mountain range in the background, if you were looking toward the west, it could have been the Olympics Mountains; towards the east would have been the Cascades. Although, it could have been one of THESE PEAKS OR SUMMITS (http://www.mountainzone.com/mountains/list-mountains.asp?dest=Olympia+WA).
-
DR vixmom - Thatsa cute grand nephew!
-
