Well, you've read the notes, the notes were warm and had occasional cockles, and now it is time for you to post until the cockled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FOUDROYANT!
-
As promised, our new release. Shhhh. For your eyes only. You know the drill - it's 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping paid via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.
Kritzerland is proud to present a very special 2 CD soundtrack release:
ONE-EYED JACKS
Music Composed and Conducted by Hugo Friedhofer
From the moment of their inception, some films are simply destined to become legendary in one way or another and Marlon Brando’s sole directorial effort had legend stamped on it from the get-go. Based on the book The Authentic Death of Hendry Jones by Charles Neider, the film’s first script was written by a young up-and-coming writer named Sam Peckinpah. It was subsequently re-written by Calder Willingham and then Guy Trosper. After viewing a movie called The Killing, Brando hired its director, Stanley Kubrick. By the time the film went before the cameras, Kubrick was gone and Brando was not only starring, but also directing. While the end result might not be to everyone’s liking, the fact is that the finished film is oddly compelling, poetic, and sometimes completely bizarre, and fully deserving of its legendary cult status.
The film looks gorgeous – it was the final film made in Paramount’s brilliant process, VistaVision, and the great Charles Lang was the director of photography. The cast also included Karl Malden, Katy Jurado, Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens, and the supremely weird Timothy Carey. There are some truly great scenes and some eminently quotable dialogue (“Get up off the floor, you scum-sucking pig”). But what gives the film a great deal of its luster and brilliance is the score by Hugo Friedhofer.
Sometimes the stars are magically aligned and a composer gets a perfect project, one that plays to all his musical strengths – Friedhofer’s music elevates One-Eyed Jacks in every sense – it’s passionate, beautiful, exciting, dramatic, luminous – and one of Friedhofer’s greatest achievements, in a career filled with them: The Best Years of Our Lives, The Bishop’s Wife, The Rains of Ranchipur, This Earth Is Mine, The Young Lions (also with Brando), The Harder They Fall, Vera Cruz, Soldier of Fortune, Seven Cities of Gold, Violent Saturday, Hondo, Rancho Notorious, Broken Arrow, and the list could go on for several more pages.
One-Eyed Jacks was originally released on LP by Liberty Records. Friedhofer had all the scoring masters available to him and from these he prepared the album release (any thoughts of a 2 LP set vanished when the film did not perform at the box office). Obviously because of LP time restrictions, less than half of Friedhofer’s amazing score was on the album. On CD 1, we present that original album program, remastered from the original two-track album masters, along with two alternate cues from the full score. On CD 2 we present Friedhofer’s entire score in all its magnificence, in pristine stereo sound. To hear this score complete is a revelation – and for Friedhofer fans and any fan of great film music, this 2 CD set is a must-have. This is the world premiere release of any of this music on CD. The booklet features new and great liner notes by Nick Redman.
This release is limited to 1200 copies only. For this release, we are offering this 2 CD set at our usual 1 CD price: $19.98 plus shipping.
CD will ship by the last week of September – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Just ordered the new CD!
-
I see Sam never bothered to show up tonight. This is, for me, one of the great film scores, and even at 1200 it will not be around long - let's just say I have insider information about the dealer orders on this title, and there aren't a lot left for me to sell on the site.
-
Isn't it amusing that last night we had about five people here - none of whom showed up for the announcement. Yeah, that's amusing.
-
So amusing that I may simply stop doing the advance announcements.
-
Well, I hope you don't stop the advance announcements. :)
-
And on that note (A...for Advance Announcements ;)), I'm off to bed. Friday was my dad's 72nd birthday, but we're celebrating today (Sunday). I don't exactly know what's happening, but I have the gift card for Barnes and Noble that we all got for him and I also bought him the first season of "Warehouse 13." He really likes this show....I hope he likes the DVDs.
Good night, BK and guests.
-
It's 5AM, I'm here and I'm ordering!
-
Good morning, all! As soon as I posted, i left he site, read a bit about Charles Gounod and the turnoils of composing FAUST between 1859 and 1868, and went to bed. When the alarm went off this morning, I was dreaming about staging THE BEGGAR'S OPERA.
I am up quite early because i have a long morning ahead of me at Toyland; I have to find all of my notepads on BABES IN TOYLAND in an effort to find where i wrote - around 2006 - copyright dates on all M. Witmark & Sons publications of the score. I also have to inventory all of the songs for the Herbert recording beginning Sept 18, since I need them for a meeting with New World Records tomorrow afternoon. I want the work finished today so I don't spend time tomorrow trying to locate materials.
BK, sorry I missed your question last night. John Esche was mentioned in passing, along with other posters on the cast recording list. I hadn't seen Darrel in about a year so we had lots of territory to cover. from the Casrecl to THE WIZARD OF OZ in Canton, OH.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It promises to be another day that will hover around 100 degrees and melt you the moment you step outside. Except for church, I think I'll stay inside most of the day.
-
So amusing that I may simply stop doing the advance announcements.
CD ordered. Please do not stop advanced announcements.
-
Ordered!
The early announcement happens about 3 ayem here, so sometimes I can't stay awake until then - but it's nice to see it first thing on the morning!
-
Ah yes, DR MICHAEL S, I love Jean Seberg even in AIRPORT & PAINT YOUR WAGON.
Lee Marvin: You mean you wuz down at the river at 8 o'clock in the mornin' bare beam and buck nekkid?
Jean: Yes I was. Would you rather I be down at the river at noon, bare beam and buck nekkid?
-
Please do not stop the early announcements because some of us are sleepy heads.
-
I think DR MBARNUM was going to watch the Steve Cochran movie festival last night - I wonder what he thought of said films?
-
DotM never responded to my lovely PM last night.
-
Good morning! Much to do today.....first laundry, then coffee with the HPC Chair to plan for the meeting in September and a seminar called Mortar Matters that will be here in September.
The rest of the day it will be time to dig in, get the trial notebook in order and take all the info in my head, organize it and do my final preparations for trial.
-
Yes MR BK - this is the CD I ordered from an American seller. Is this the one you have?
I didn't know about the copyright stuff going on.....does the CD sound okay? It does say "carefully restored", but who knows....

-
Yes DR CILLA LIZ it will be a busy day here, as well.....but mostly concerning lines.
-
Nice slide show of a home I considering buying in Montecito, CA.

If I win the Powerball next week.
-
Greetings from Toyland! My taxi driver was not awake this morning, drove me some distance out of my way to my dismay, but I am safely here. I've located my copyright info, so all is well.
-
Morning all.
The temperature has dropped but it is muggy and it may rain off and on all day.
That is all.
-
HE DROVE ME TO MY DISMAY - the name of my new tome about ... I don;t know what
-
Sunday morning greetings! Another day of solitude for me - Richard's at church and Rob's doing clinical practice at the hospital from which I was released 2 weeks ago. First, some breakfast!
-
So, will it be peaches or bananas in your oatmeal, Ginny? I'm having peaches.
-
DR BEN I forgot to ask you if the wardrobe malfunction was mentioned when you went to see WITH A SONG IN MY HEART.
-
Oh Page 2
-
Time to move the laundry to the dryer dance
-
So, the relatives have left us. The house is quiet this early AM. We had a great time and I think the older kid didn't want to leave. She'll be back, I'm sure.
Today is back to church for me, and tomorrow is beginning of the school year. Summer was very unusual this year as I worked all summer, battled those annoying bouts of dehydration, and dealt with the fact that the bay area hardly had a summer (yet). Very odd 10 weeks or so.
CD is ordered. I think I'm one behind so I'll have to go to the site and catch up.
-
LOL dotm wants to know what she did that makes me so angry with her....LOL.....
-
Back from a quick check to see why the church alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. Whoever it was must have run away.
-
Nice slide show of a home I considering buying in Montecito, CA.

Suddenly. . .it's 1962!
-
LOL dotm wants to know what she did that makes me so angry with her....LOL.....
There is just the outside chance this person is not our very own semi-beloved 3D. Just sayin', as someone used to say.
-
So, will it be peaches or bananas in your oatmeal, Ginny? I'm having peaches.
Banana & Cheerios, DR Laura.
-
I had a headache all day yesterday. During the night we had some rain. I was right again.
-
Whoever....DR JMK.....harassment of BK on his own site by anyone is still very uncool.
-
DR JMK has been sharing most interesting photos of Miss Frances Farmer recently. Wow!
-
DR JMK has been sharing most interesting photos of Miss Frances Farmer recently. Wow!
Yes, the hot air balloon she had transformed into evening wear for the premiere of CLEOPATRA is really quite amazing.
-
Except for the title song Sherry! I'm not sure that I like the rest of the score. I think Ken Mandelbaum (whatever happened to him?) was right the play doesn't work with a musical score shoehorned in and especially one that's not spectacular. I'm glad I heard it based on BK's recording of the title song.
-
Cat vibes for DR Edi's cat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
It's supposed to rain all day today. So I most likely will not get to bike.
Yesterday it rained all afternoon and night so no biking.
I am going to try to do 30 minutes of indoor exercise today (which i don't like). Except for my hoopnotica which i do like. I try to do 10 minutes a day 1-2 times.
-

Do you think the marching band and majorettes did an Ebb Tide tribute to her as she walked the red carpet at the Lyric?
-
Or maybe they played "The Bird on Nellie's Hat."
-
BK, what kind of pizza did you have?
My favorite pizza is bacon and pineapple (bacon not ham).
If I get a frozen pizza (from the grocery store) I really like McCain's International thin crust Parisian. Or chicken pizza.
-
Back from a quick check to see why the church alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. Whoever it was must have run away.
Maybe it was an angel.
-
Today I plan what to do on my trip to San Francisco.
I have never been there before. So I will do a lot of the touristy things: Chinatown, Lombard Street, Alcatraz, Haight-Asbury, The Castro Area. I hope I don't run out of time.
Of course I would like to do some things that are not usually found in AAA or Frommers or Eye Witness travel guides
-
The Vertigo Tour....but I guess that takes a WHOLE day.
-
Jack, I ended up not going to the movie. It was the day before I left for my surprise visit to Maryland and I had too much to do. I hope they show it again just so I can see the wardrobe malfunction on a big screen.
-
Ah......I see.
Keep watching the schedule....of course it's not CinemaScope, but my guess is that it's still pretty spectacular.
-
My sister bought me a Techno Phantom Mask for my birthday. ;D
-
Off to work on lines - director wants us off book tomorrow.

Well, the bathroom alone would allow you to indulge your exhibitionist tendencies!

And the word of the day is: FOUDROYANT!
And The Song Of The Day Is: FIREWORKS

I Love The Mask

Our PBS stations are rebroadcasting SOUTH PACIFIC at 2pm today - to watch or not to watch?
-
Let us move forward.

Or maybe they played "The Bird on Nellie's Hat."
Or possibly the main theme from PSYCHO?
-
Our PBS stations are rebroadcasting SOUTH PACIFIC at 2pm today - to watch or not to watch?
I hope that I can watch, since I have not seen it yet.
-
The Vertigo Tour....but I guess that takes a WHOLE day.
Is there really a Vertigo tour? Where does one look it up?
-

I agree. And filling the roles with stars doesn't mean they're better for the material than Jonathan Freeman and Christine Baranski.
-
Did I mention my cousin Ross did very well in his little set at the comedy club last night? Yes, indeed, he did.
-
Good afternoon!
I've finally watched all of South Pacific. I'm so glad Lincoln Center, PBS and whoever else made the broadcast possible. It's a great memento of the show!
-
Good morning again!
Thanks for all the kitty vibes. She's due for her allergy shot tomorrow so we can do dual duty and get the tumor checked out. Usually a cortisone shot takes care of it, but we try to prolong giving her that as much as possible.
-
LOL dotm wants to know what she did that makes me so angry with her....LOL.....
DR JRandf59, I wanted to thank you for writing to DR DotM; I'm sure you conveyed much of my feelings at It as I would have.
Perhaps I will send It a PM as well.
-
The alarm has gone off twice today. We can jolt everyone awake during the sermon if it goes off again then.
-
I've finished up at Toyland and now I can head home to create further mischief.
-
The temperature is much lower but the humidity seems to be off the charts. I just came in from some errands and I'm soaked!
I didn't want to but I've turned on the AC and I'll stay in for much of the rest of the day.
-
Our PBS stations are rebroadcasting SOUTH PACIFIC at 2pm today - to watch or not to watch?
Ours aren't...state fair coverage instead
-
I'm up, I'm up. I guess I really needed to sleep and sleep I did for nine hours.
-
I haven't done any banning yet - we'll see what happens. And I wonder if there are yet more names involved.
-
Jennifer, I had a pepperoni pizza.
-
Yay, Fr. Richard is home!
Decided to have SOUTH PACIFIC on in the background while I putter in my "haven." Both desks need attention, as does the table next to my chair. All surfaces are piled with books and paperwork.
-
I love to putter - it warms the cockles of my heart.
-
After a lot of discussion over the last few days, I have decided not to sell to any more overseas dealers. They simply don't order enough stuff, and it's always a pain. My main US dealer had told me that his foreign guy was annoyed that we were selling to the six or seven dealers we do, and he'd cut his orders way down. He used to take 200 of everything from the US guy. So, they talked, and that guy is now the exclusive foreign dealer. I'm sure this won't make my foreign people happy but this is a good title to get them used to it, since, if they're smart, they'll have to have it. This way, I never have to stand in line at the post office, and we probably won't ever have to fill out a large customs form again, unless a foreign person orders ten at full price. Obviously, we'll still be selling to all our foreign customers, and we've got a nice amount of those.
-
JRand, indeed I did enjoy some Steve Cochran last night. I watched HIGHWAY 301, and it was wonderful. Steve, of course, is always a fascinating actor to watch. Gaby Andre was quite good, and poor Aline Towne's demise...oh, my...much more shocking then I would have expected. And Robert Webber...well, what a hottie! I don't know why he didn't have a better career.
Tonight I shall watch Cochran's film TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY. Thanks so much for sending these JRand!
-
It's currently pouring rain in Manhattan.
If I could send it to Arizona, I would do so.
-
I had cockles once for dinner. Or was that winkles? I hope my heart doesn't have any, whatever they were. They tasted like I would imagine cooked erasers would taste.
-
Mr BK is this anything you would be interested in?

That is one incredible house!
-
Jennifer, I had a pepperoni pizza.
I don't know why but i do not like pepperoni on my pizza anymore.
-
As if to prove my point exactly, someone posted on the All That Chat board that they thought South Pacific would be MUCH better if it started with the seabees and There's Nothing Like a Dame (only it wouldn't start with that - it would be Bloody Mary). As I said the other day, that's exactly the way Musicals 101 would say it had to be. And who did the post? The gal who wrote the Stephen Schwartz book - Mr. Schwartz being one of the crafters of Musicals 101.
-
Jrand - not really - don't know the author at all and no DJ on the book.
-

Of course, someday it'll go into public domain and people will be able to do anything they want with it...and then they'll see that they're wrong. :)

I've seen several productions that have tried to switch the opening of South Pacific and it never works.

Hello, everyone.
I see that several DRs are having a busy day today. Productivity vibes to those who are, and relaxation vibes to those of us who don't wish to be--busy, that is.

Today I plan what to do on my trip to San Francisco.

I'm pretty sure photographing carpets is not in either travel guide.
-
Ohhhh...3D was here yesterday incognito? What happened? I guess this is what happens when you're E&T.
-
That is all.
TTFN.
-
Bruce, I was wondering if you still had copies of the Trotter Trio's "Passion... In Jazz" album. Apparently, mine has disappeared, and it's my favorite of all the Trotter Trio albums, and thought I would come to you first, before trying to find it used on Amazon, etc. Thanks!

divarobbie, will you drop me an e-mail about it - I'm sure I have some in the garage here, just need to be prodded to go look through the boxes. That's my favorite of the Trotters, too - the first and never bettered - it was just the right album at the right time and the right and perfect sound.
-
She's a pound and a half of vinegar, MBarnum. Rex hid.

Wow, eleven USERS - haven't been that full in a 'coon's age. One of them is DotM. The real question regarding the latter is do we wait for trouble or hope there won't be any or nip it in the bud?
-
With all these USERS, won't one of you get me off this damn page?
-
I'm not eating dinner till seven, so the question now is do I go get some matzo brei or poached eggs to tide me over.
-
As long as DotM doesn't harass anyone, I say let her stay.

Drive or walk over the Golden Gate Bridge, visit Fort Point & the Presidio http://www.nps.gov/fopo/
Years ago we went to a small old west prison in Wyoming and that was enough to give me nightmares. I have so far avoided Alcatraz & have every intention to continue doing so.
Chinatown isn't what it used to be or I didn't realize how tacky it was when I was younger. I don't suggest eating there unless you have a good recommendation. Avoid the overpriced touristy places.
Have fun.

Has Anyone Released The Entire Score Of "ON THE WATERFRONT".I know that there have been recordings of The Suite from.... Is this Something that you would be interested in doing?

As If By Wizardry=Page 5
-
Bruce, remember not to ask where I am this week as I have company arriving today. :)
Where are you? :)
-
Most of the score is included in the Bernstein suite - but it's Columbia - and doubtful they have any tapes.
-
I don't think there's much doubt as to who DotM is - the pattern of trying to access the site is exact - so, JMK and Jane, our two "just sayin" folks - it's her.
-
Welcome eleven GUESTS. Previously we had eleven USERS, now we've got eleven GUESTS.
-
Of course we're still on page five, so someone really must get me off this damn page.
-
Hey bk, did you get the package I sent? Not the tapes but the one after w/ the 2 discs?
-
Well, it's a post...
-
I've been de-mildewifying and cleaning our back porch and steps. Greg finally got the antique sconces up and working in the little hall between the two bedrooms (one of which has become a man-cave). Now we're building the equipment cabinet that I bought for Greg to keep gear in several years ago. I am so glad to have it up off the floor of the garage. Maybe we'll be able to park in there some day.
-
The garage door hasn't worked in years but it's always been one of "I'll fix it" things that never gets fixed. It's a very heavy old door from the 40's so I've really done a number on my shoulder hoisting it by hand for so long. Finally it got to the point where I was doing damage to my arm and insisted that we call a professional door guy. After I did a lot of research I found a company but was told it was "too expensive" (even though I planned on paying for it myself!) but after my DH did all of his research he came back to a company I liked. More expensive than my original one, but as long as it's working, I'm HAPPYHAPPYHAPPY!
-
Yes, package came and am looking forward to watching.
-
Now that this has happened, we're on a bit of a roll, so I called a tree company that will come out next week and do maintenance on all our trees and take down a nearly dead one at the end of the driveway that drops limbs on my car. The guy gave a good estimate, lives in the neighborhood (20% discount since we're in the neighborhood assoc.) and likes trees. Not one of those guys who tries to scare you into taking down trees so he can make a buck or two...thousand.)
-
Yes, package came and am looking forward to watching.
Oh, that was just a quick pass. I'm more curious about if you are interested in the music CD. The composer has had interest from several European labels to release it but I don't think it went very far.
-
Wed. I get my piano tuned. It had been years since it was tuned so my DH arranged that for Xmas. But almost immediately there was a bad, sour note. I think it was one that was bad before. I wonder if it needs a new string?
-
Most of this day has been tied up with the Herbert recording; I discovered three more songs I hadn't collected in McGlinn's Herbert files, and I think I'll give them to Ron Raines to sing. I also just signed our E&T DR Jason before your FB demand, DR Laura, to be one of the chorus men backing up Rebecca Luker on one of her songs. I'm thinking about asking Merrill Grant if she'll join the ladies' chorus.
-

Maybe a new peg.

I was happy to see that a friend of ours won the editing Emmy for the Barack Obama doc. He's a fantastic editor and I'm glad! The Obama doc is in the same category with our Mercer "film" so maybe that bodes well for the Obama doc to win the prime time Emmy, too. I doubt Mercer was even submitted for editing so no surprise there!
-
"Peg O' My Heart"... I forgot that one, too!
I hope he can fix it...it sounds so bad I can't stand to play. (Not that my playing even sounds good, but still...)
-
Back to the land of sweat!
-
I am going to go watch Big Brother in a few minutes.

Gosh, I ate no vegetables, fruits or meat today!
-
I had a peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich on a challah roll for breakfast.
Blueberry pancakes for lunch.
And ravioli for dinner.
Gotta love it!
-
And it rained all day and is still raining.
-
I don't know what i'm going to do for exercise in the winter. :(
-
I decided to try swimming once a week.
And I will do my hooping ( i guess i could try 20 minutes/day).
I don't like the stationary bike very much.
-
Elmore, I also suggest John DePalma. I have no idea who he is. He sent me a friend request some time ago on Facebook. He was looking for someone else with my name, but we kept each other on our lists as friends.

John's already doing it. I asked him two weeks ago.

LOL. Tell him I said hello.

Have fun.
Golden Gate is on the agenda.
Perhaps do the Flower Drum Song Tour. Chinatown, Grant Avenue etc
The Presidio also sounds interesting. Not familiar with Fort Point, but will look into it
We are booked for Alcatraz on Tuesday

Besides the soundtrack's instrumental take on "Our Language of Love," IRMA LA DOUCE's signature song is at its best when sung by Ann-Margret.
BK knows what I'm talking about.

And look! Page Six!

I have just had three hours of total joy. The Lincoln Center production of SOUTH PACIFIC is nearly flawless. Kellie and Paolo are the perfect Nellie and Emile. Personally I could never understand Nellie falling in love with Ezio Pinza or Rossano Brazzi, but Paulo Szot is a knockout!
And now, George has even offered me a DVD of the telecast!
-
I shall now be on my way to sup and then I shall return to finish a motion picture on the DVR, Mad Men, and readying our announcement.
-
Golden Gate Park is nice, especially the Japanese Gardens. And my favorite spot in SF is around the old Cliff House, Seal Rock, Sutro Baths ruins. Not something that I would recommend to everyone...it just appeals to me. The scope of imagination people had back then. "Hey, this is kind of far out here...maybe I should build a railroad to get there" etc.

Alcatraz is GREAT!!!!
-
Back porch is done except for a few details. I think I will paint the stair risers tomorrow. It makes me happy to have a productive day like this; they're so rare!
-
DR TCB, since I probably won't be around tomorrow...

Also, the Exploratorium, not for the museum, but just for the grounds and the Palace of Fine Arts, which was built for the Pan Pacific Exposition in 1915 as a ruin, and not meant to be preserved, but thankfully, it was. Again, the scale and imagination of that exhibition fascinate me, the same way Coney Island in its prime, would have.

Was just at Alcatraz on Friday, and it's a great trip. You'll enjoy the audio tour. Enjoy the wharf and the pier. Shopping in Union Square is always good. All of your sites are great. Let me know if you need any help or anything. I am a local :)

Used to great effect in the wonderful film, TIME AFTER TIME.

I had in my possession a coupon entitling me to 10 hours of parking for $10 and another for 40% off Next to Normal tickets - so the Vixter and I jumped in the car and drove in yesterday afternonn - we walkwd up to the box office and snagged 2 4th row orchestra seats for the Saturday night performance - they were side - but on the aisle
we were sorry to have missed BK's pal Alice Ripley but Marin Mazzie was excellent
-
Ginny - today was my first time acting as assisting minister - and the Vixter was the first person to whom I offered the host ... I found it very moving...
special prayers were said for your continued healing

And the gentleman who played Joe Cable, Andrew Samonsky, gave a very unusual performance. I thought he was much better in the second act. In the first act there was something strange about his performance; but I can't quite put my finger on what it was.

Bruce - I was very sorry to read about your friend Debby - of course I send VIBES for HEALING to her ... and I shall add her to my prayers - I was si glad that to read that you offerd to be there for her - the support of friends is so very important during this time - the support that the Vixter and I received from so many of you throughout my ordeal last year was an amazing source of comfort and strength to both of us and I will be eternally grateful for that

That's right! And the Sutro Bath ruins were used to great effect in HAROLD AND MAUDE.

I'm glad you had a nice day off, Vixmom.

Thank you, DR Vixmom! You are so right about friends' support in times of crisis.

thank you!!

I've seen several productions that have tried to switch the opening of South Pacific and it never works.
I saw one that did, as your previous message said, opened with "There Is Nothing Like a Dame." They apparently couldn't get kids, because they never showed up in the show at all. They were just referred to. And Nellie's horror was from a photograph.
-
I believe Coney Island was in its prime when I was selling Belgian waffles there
-
John G - did Nellie say anything to Emile like it's so sweet that you have a picture of Henry's children?
-
I'm catching up on Facebook and a friend of mine posted THIS (http://wimp.com/cattheremin/) short video of a cat playing a Theremin!
;D
:D Pretty cat.
That's so funny!
-
John G - did Nellie say anything to Emile like it's so sweet that you have a picture of Henry's children?
He said something about them being his children -- at the appropriate time, as I recall. This is going back about 30 years and the production was at a dinner theater notorious for abridging and censoring shows so the blue hairs in the audience wouldn't be offended.

DR Sandra is explaining y=(x^2)+b and I think my head is going to implode.

With regards to the edited "South Pacific" I saw: I was a kid with a theater mania, and my parents took me to a lot of productions of shows that I would never have seen otherwise. They liked the whole concept of dinner theater, and I just wanted to see "Finian's Rainbow" or "George M!" or "Can-Can." I saw many shows that were poorly staged or edited, but at least I saw the shows. I saw what worked and what didn't.
I was thinking earlier today of a production of "Shenandoah" that didn't trust the material, so somebody decided to incorporate the song "Shenandoah" into the second act, to give it a hit tune that people could go out of the theater humming. But I got to see "Shenandoah."
All those productions, especially the bad ones or the truncated ones, helped me do a better job when I became a theater critic. Seeing the PG version of "A Chorus Line" makes you appreciate the original even more. Seeing a low-budget production of "A Little Night Music" that works or a "South Pacific" that doesn't has plenty of lessons to offer.
-
SHENANDOAH had some should-have-been hit songs.
Remember the commercials that were done for the musical SHENANDOAH, which looked like movie scenes shot on locations. Someone did post on YouTube three of the real honest-to-goodness effective commercials; although the picture and sound are out of whack, you can see how much they tried to look like some movie-musicals of the day. (The EQUUS slide is a false start.)

i cribbed the above post from a post elsewhere. Hope it makes sense.

Back from a really good dinner at a ramen shop in Old Town Pasadena. What an interesting and very peculiar place that's turned into. This jernt had great food and boy was it inexpensive. I had salmon with teriyaki sauce and rice (very light) and it was great and came with miso soup and a little salad - the whole thing was $8.95. My friend had a big bowl of vegetable ramen, which she loved.
-
I guess I'll go watch tonight's Mad Men.
-
This morning, I woke up at 9:24 a.m., with what sounded like my DVD players and VCRs turning on. I looked at my clock and it was blinking 12:00. I don't know how long the power was off, but it just came on. I reset all my clocks and there were no problems. This afternoon, I was here on HHW and catching up on Facebook, and at about 2:54 p.m., the power went off again! I hadn't taken a shower yet and had to take a shower with only a flashlight. The power was still off when I left at about 3:45 p.m., to celebrate my dad's birthday (he loved the Barnes & Noble gift card and the "Warehouse 13" season one DVD). I don't know if it was just my building or part of the condo complex or what. But when I left, I turned down one street and the traffic light at the far end (where I was going) was off. The light at the intersection to the left (also where I was going) was off, too. When I got home about an hour ago, everything was on and working...AND "Mad Men" did record. I don't know if I'll find out what happened, but as long as everything works, it's not a problem.
-
I can't help it if I'm slow.
cd ordered. ;D
-
Listened to Lost in Boston I and II today. Yummy. :)
-
Watched Beyond the Valley of the Dolls yesterday. On my. I was not prepared.
-
Most of this day has been tied up with the Herbert recording; I discovered three more songs I hadn't collected in McGlinn's Herbert files, and I think I'll give them to Ron Raines to sing. I also just signed our E&T DR Jason before your FB demand, DR Laura, to be one of the chorus men backing up Rebecca Luker on one of her songs. I'm thinking about asking Merrill Grant if she'll join the ladies' chorus.
This is so cool! Can't wait for this!
-
Goodnight everyone.
Good morning cheers and happiness for Monday.
;)

Love Saint Joan. 8) 8) 8)

Hope Sam is coming to the Gardenia.

Hello George.
Always nice to see your smiling picture.
-
Dear bk, your post said the show starts a 9PM, what time does it end ?
-
But yes, I do want to be at the Gardenia.
-
Good night, I did not pay attention, and it's suddenly after 11:00.
-
Hello George.
Always nice to see your smiling picture.
Thanks, Sam. Nice to see your sunset avatar. :)

Gardenia show should end around ten-fifteen.
