Well, you've read the notes, the notes raised some hell and also had some high water, and now it is time for you to post until the hell or high water cows come home.

Good morning, all! I forgot to set the alarm! I was awakened by the Oaf Above Me wanderng around at 4 am. The people on the recording think he's on coke from my description. I won't know until his nose falls off.

So, today, we record the lovely Sara Jean Ford and her three numbers first thng, and we finish her set with four ladies backing her up on "Tell Me, Daisy." After lunch, we've got our tenor back with two numbers, followed by Zak - will he wear the loincloth? - Stains for John MacCormack's big hit "Molly." I'm looking forward to the number with the ensemble since two of the backup ladies are friends from Goodspeed's WHERE'S CHARLEY?  and THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE AND DEATH OF THE SINGING NUN.

My Fed Ex charges for the shipment a week ago showed up on the banking online this morning. It's in the vicinity of $530, and that's pretty good.

Keep them vibes for a smooth session coming!

I'm not much into religious-themed movies, unless you would consider FIELD OF DREAMS one.

Most of the classic ones that I can think of (e.g. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE ROBE, etc.) are too "self-important".

I just looked at the attendee list for The Hollywood Show this coming weekend in Burbank.

The guy running it might be a schmuck, but the list is rather impressive.

Shirley Knight and David Naughton were at the Ray Courts show I did in Chicago last weekend.

Monday morning greetings!  I slept later than I'd intended, but feel very refreshed as a result.  After my cardiac rehab session this afternoon we're going to Oxford, OH, for a lecture at Miami U by John Wood, the author of Leaving Microsoft to Save the World.  I've read the book and heard him speak before and am glad I follow him on Twitter.  I've seen no local publicity for his visit here.  We hope to meet up after the lecture to take our dear niece/goddaughter out to dinner.

DR MB, I was going to mention SONG OF BERNADETTE, too, but I thought I would just stick with movies in the LEAP OF FAITH vein.

There's another movie that's drifting at the perimeter of my brain cells--something about a nun.  And this particular nun decides to go off on a wild weekend and a statue of the Virgin Mary comes to life to take her place while she's gone.  I have the feeling that that is not the actual plot but does this ring a bell with anyone?  I'm pretty sure it's not A NUN'S STORY or REQUIUM FOR A NUN...

There are a few small tricks (if anyone gets one and wants to know more just ask).

Leap of Faith is based on the Steve Martin movie - the co-author of the book of the musical is the woman who wrote its screenplay.  I wrote the notes in a certain way for reasons you will all probably understand.  The audience last night went wild at the end, and I actually heard the CTG artistic director say the show was ready to move to B'way because his invited, filled with friends audience had cheered and stood up.  That's a little delusional.  The show has real problems and yes, JMK, it's 110 in the Shade and The Music Man and all the others you mentioned.  It's very repetitious musically and in structure, very long, and its director is just someone I don't cotton to and his work, both in direction and dance is not focused enough and at times downright weird.  The show, which takes place, I believe, now, in sets and costumes looks like its taking place in the 40s or 50s in a curious country which I'd call Agnes de Milleland.

SPOILER FOR LEAP OF FAITH

And if the ties to 110 weren't blatantly in your face, then perhaps the fact that the town of Sweetwater (close to Sweetriver?) is having a terrible drought and at the end of the play - it rains.

And if the ties to The Music Man (sans any of the charm) weren't blatantly in your face, there's a red-headed kid with an infirmity (closer to Meredith Willson's original version of Winthrop rather than the stutterer he became).

I keep meaning either to rewatch the original "Leap of Faith", or at least track down the reviews to see just how much of a homage it is to THE RAINMAKER/110 IN THE SHADE.

I hope the director can be ruthless enough to make "Leap of Faith" work. I think audiences are always suckers for the "Rainmaker/110" and "Music Man" and "Gantry," even "Anyone Can Whistle," story to work. We need miracles these days and the chance to uplift an audience should not be squandered.

Thanks, John, but it's not really my first "official" day...I'm being trained on some things that I don't know, but I think next Monday will be my first day alone!
So, training vibes, then. Which sound too much like training wheels, which I'm sure you don't need.

As one of my favorite directors like to say: "You cut what you love." And she does. And her shows are always the better for it.

The Nun's Story
The Cardinal
The Shoes of the Fisherman (mostly for the music)
Friendly Persuasion (yea, verily....I think it's a most-religious-themed movie).

DR Dan (theMan), the movie is THE MIRACLE, a play Max Reinhardt directed everywhere in the 1920s (on Broadway, Jan - June 1924).

It was a wonderful day in the studio and I know we're heading for a bad day soon. The ladies' ensemble was terrific, and everyoen was in great voice today. I hope tomorrow goes well.

I'm not much into religious-themed movies, unless you would consider FIELD OF DREAMS one.

Most of the classic ones that I can think of (e.g. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE ROBE, etc.) are too "self-important".

I'm not much into religious-themed movies, either...unless they're funny (for the most part):

Dogma
It's a Wonderful Life (okay, this one isn't that funny)
Lilies of the Field (and neither is this)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Nasty Habits
Oh, God! (I only saw the first one)
Sister Act
Trembling Before G-d (very not funny)
The Trouble With Angels

My late Uncle took me out to lunch with Harrison Starr, who either exec produced or associate produced THE CARDINAL.  We ate at some crowded outdoor place in the Village, and I remember Harrison, who indeed had a LOT of hair ;), telling me I should pursue writing rather than acting, as it was much easier to make a living that way.

No, the local health food stores (and Fred Meyer, the local Kroger affiliate) carry a great almond cheese.  It is very tasty and even better, it melts "normally," unlike soy cheese.

Today I see an acupuncturist for the first time in several years, to see if they can alleviate this bothersome lower back pain (which has extended down to my left heel) that I have had chronically since my bout with kidney stones.  I went to an acupuncturist several years ago who magically lowered my blood pressure almost overnight, so I am hopeful.

Since I've cut out cheese from my diet (I LOVE cheese and now we're eating the soy stuff) I was intrigued by the mention of vegan cheese. In spite of being in New York, the center of the known world, it is not easy finding this stuff. I just spent time looking for Daiya, Sheese, Dr. Cow and Teese. They are all NOT readily available around here. I may order some on line and see what it's like.

I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, but the sleep I had was very deep with lots of dreams.  Some were very strange but not off-putting.  I dont' remember the details of much except one where we were in one room and my great aunt grace was in the room across the way. It really was more like a stage. She was an artist so  I was very pleased to  introduce her to Paul.  She didn't say anything but just sat and smiled like she approved of my life and my friends.   Aunt Grace died when I was in college.  She was in her 90s at the time.  The dream was really comforting.  Almost like she was letting me know that she knows I'm doing fine.

I also left Mark Twain in Sioux City.  I was stuck sitting in the path of all that cigar or pipe smoke and couldn't breathe.  And Hal Holbrook was off the night he was here.  He seemed to be forgetting things, maybe that was the character but it seemed like it was just a really off night.  It's got to be frustrating to have those nights when you are the only person in the show.

I enjoyed it as a show for kids and really liked Stephen Flaherty's music, much better than the album, which I think needs the BK treatment. It sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel. It's flat and lifeless, and the music really came to life for me in the theater.

Plus, I'm a sucker for anything related to Dr. Seuss. (Except Jim Carrey in a Dr. Seuss movie.)

Have you heard the new recording of Seussical yet?

Just finishing up Jean-Luc Godard's "Vivre Sa Vie," with a great Michel Legrand score. Anna Karina was beautiful then. I saw another Godard, "Made in U.S.A," at a friend's house last Friday. That was more infuriating, even if Karina looked great walking through scenes of insane pop art sets. Seems that for every Godard I like, there's another that makes me want to stop watching him. Oh well.

The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck was on Rachel Ray today!

Go Doug!

Rachel Gay (http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/big-gay-ice-cream-truck/)

Thanks for posting that, DR Ben!

Of course, we're all trying to figure out if she cursed, or if she said, "That's sick!" (http://eater.com/archives/2010/10/04/rachael-ray-swears-by-the-big-gay-ice-cream-truck.php).

*And, if you look at the bigger picture, you have to give Rachael Ray a lot of credit for promoting the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck on her show.  "Yes, Middle America, Gay People do exist."

It's pretty good.  And it reflects the one-act version of the show. -Which is probably how the show should have started out in the first place, imho.

DR Ben - I know that Whole Foods tends to keep a decent selection of vegan cheeses in stock, and I believe Trader Joe's has two or three available under their house brand.  And if you happen to find yourself above 42nd Street, the mini-chain of Health Nuts stores actually has a Vegan Deli counter.

The other thing to keep in mind as you look for vegan cheese is that most stores won't stock next to the real stuff.  Those die-hard vegans prefer their own section. ;)

Continued recording session vibes to DR Elmore.

DR elmore - I'm glad that you're recording sessions have been going so well.  As for a "bad day", well, I hope you don't end up self-fulfilling your prophecy. Besides, that "bad day" probably won't occur until the mix-down sessions.  ;)

It's all going too smoothly and that worries me. I hope there are no rough sessions, but there are two days left on this one and three more sessions totalling around eight days after that between Oct 19 and Jan 2011..

DR elmore - After all the preparation and scheduling "crap" you've completed, why wouldn't things go smoothly?

Was doing a little Leap of Faith research - the film was not a hit - that surprised me.

Yep.  And according to Time-Warner, the "sun outage" will continue until the 15th.  Ugh!

Solar Interference Season (http://www.twcableuntangled.com/2010/10/theres-nothing-wrong-with-your-tv-set-its-solar-interference-season-again/)

*And it really seemed to wreak havoc with cell phone signals today. -At least here in NYC. Lots and lots of dropped calls.
