Jose - I shared the Barry Bostwick clip from last night on All that Chat and a generally very sweet fellow named theaterbear was moved to quip:
"It's like Debbie Allen was sitting at home thinking 'YES!! THIS is how Carrie the Musical should open!' "
I'm having a "did I have a stroke?" morning, dropping things, spilling things. My kitchen is a mess.

Do you have an aspirin in the house? Just in case, take one quickly.

I find it incredibly amusing when I get the "_________ is following you on Twitter," as my one and only Tweet was my rant to Qwest. And I don't even think that was an official Tweet, it was more of a screed.
DR vixmom - Thanks for sharing those pictures from the vixter's prom. I hope you're able to get pictures from the actual prom itself.
I do not have flood insurance. It would seem kinda silly.

I'm walking my dog yesterday morning. This woman from YNN stops me and asks if I want to be interviewed by the local news.
The subject: How to care for your lawn during the Texas drought.
http://austin.ynn.com/content/279059/tips-to-help-keep-your-yard-alive-during-drought
The only thing I know about lawn care is how to turn on my automatic sprinkling system (My wife knows how to program it; I don't.) and how to write a check to our gardener, which my wife also does.
;D

There are actually two Criterion editions, anamorphic and non-anamorphic. I own the first (non-anamorphic) release.
Re: my "kind of" brother-in-law in Minot. My sister actually has little sympathy for him (at least if I'm reading her email from yesterday correctly). Evidently Doug has had repeated flooding annually for years (he lives right next to whatever river is in Minot) and the entire family has been urging him to move for years and he has been refusing. Still, it's not good news.

Umm...I didn't know that. How can I tell the difference??

I love black-and-white movies, though I think that some movies that were made in black-and-white back in the 30s and 40s should have been made in color (e.g. YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, THE SEA HAWK).
I think the problem with black-and-white movies made during the past 40 years is that many of them were actually shot on color stock, therefore they look "soft". The blacks are not not as rich as they were in earlier movies.
George, thanks to your PM of a few days ago, I now finally have SMITH. Thank you.
George, the difference between the two editions is that the first is not anamorphically enhanced. Therefore the 1.85:1 image plays out in a "window box", i.e., there are black bars on all four sides. The anamorphically enhanced version will take up the full screen size on your 16x9 television, hence it's listed as 1.78:1, though the film's OAR in 1.85:1, so you'll be missing just a tiny smidge of image (nothing to get concerned about--typically even 1.85:1 Blu-rays are overscanned to play at 1.78:1).
Was that the watering expert watering your plants?

I do not think so
Going to see Silence the Musical, with Mr. Barrett, at 10:30 pm tomorrow (I know: late! I hope I can take a nap on the bus). And I was thinking of seeing Celebrity Autobiography beforehand. Any New Yorkers like to join me for either or both shows?
So who was watering the plants?

I thought that was at a different house.

BK, what you said is almost exactly what I said, though one thing you said confuses me, perhaps I simply am misunderstanding. I routinely take 1:1 screencaps in discs encoded at 1.85:1 which are overscanned to 1.78:1 when seen on a 16x9 HDTV. There is not more image, there is slightly less in the 1.78:1 "as seen on tv" version. While you're correct to say a disc mastered at 1.78:1 from a 1.85:1 source would have slightly more image, overscanned 1.85:1 transfers are missing just a sliver of their image, which is demonstrable just by looking at 1.85:1 screencaps vs. the 1.78:1 overscans.

Damn, I wish I could pledge $500, so that I could be listed on the blu-ray as an Executive Producer, but sadly, I will probably have to settle for a smaller pledge.
Good morning, all! I have a date with my dentist at 10:45, and I'm debating which trip to make in conjunction with it: Toyland or the pharmacy? I have to make both stops today, Toyland to look for a book that may still be sitting on one of the shelves and the pharmacy for prescription refills. I can do one on te way to the clinic and one after, but I haven't decided the order yet.
Do you guys use HREF tags to make your links here have whatever title you want displayed?

Probably the last television series broadcast in b/w and never filmed for another season in color - was Combat which was canceled at the end of the ABC 66-67 season when all other b/w shows (The Patty Duke Show, The Addams Family, Honey West, Amos Burke-Secret Agent) had been canceled the season before.Combat. Robert Altman worked on that. (I have these strange obsessions. Sorry.)
I asked if it was the watering expert who was watering, and he said no.
I know ;D
It will be interesting what DR Druxy has to say when he returns. :)
Well, I'm leaving. My friend Margo and I are going to see Summer in the Sixties: a harlequin original musical celebration (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/seasonpages/11/summersixties.html) (you can check out a 2-minute video clip). It should be lot of fun! We're going out to dinner first, and then to the theater!
Until later. :D
