Well, you've read the notes, the notes were noted on the calendar, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they never look at their calendar and hence never realize they're supposed to come home.

I think I'm going to drive in today. The trains on Sunday tend to run only every 20 minutes, and since they're doing a lot of track work this weekend, even though the trains may leave Vienna on time, they end up stalling for a few minutes at each station once they get into DC. -Plus, there's a some sort of reception tonight afterwards.

*One very interesting(?) thing I've noticed on DC Metro's system over the past two weeks is the number of escalator outages - basically at least one in each station. It's actually quite maddening and inconvenient - as well as dangerous during the rush hour periods when a whole train car of people are "forced" to use only one set of escalators - which may or may not be working - to get off AND on the train at the same time. -And then if you happen to be less-mobile or in a wheelchair and have to figure out how to get out of the station since no signage was posted and/or no announcement was made on the train... I really hope the family I tried to help yesterday eventually made it out of the L'Enfant Plaza station. :-\

Good morning, all! I had to get out of bed: too many nightmares about EILEEN.I'm happy with the work that my team and I have accomplished, bt there are too many wld cards floating about between here and Dublin to make me happy at the moment: needless spending on binding machinery, audition tapes, recording studio, chorus, recording dates, all of which I cannot control. In short, my work will be excellent and ready and we will be paid for our work, but the schedule may be off and the recording delayed, and this may affect future work. I try not to think of it, but this morning, it became my obsession.

I also had a long frustrating dream about working for Office Outfitters (1973-1978), crazy co-workers, including Snooky, a friend of mine and DR Ginny who never worked at Office Outfitters, a delayed telephone order and other nonsense.  Speaking of DR Ginny, I am listening to Haydn's "The Creation," which has brought back memories of my ninth grade commencement. the choir, which is where I met Richard in seventh grade, sang the glorious "The Heavens Are Telling the Glory of God," which closes the first part of Haydn's oratorio. I'm sure Richard was there in 1961.

So, today, now that I've finished my arrangement, I've got several charts from EILEEN waiting to be proofed. That's my day.

Jose - Thanks for the info on where they set up the tech table for OKLAHOMA.

You're welcome. -Also remember, the house is not that "deep" - the rows don't go that high up - and I think sitting a bit "higher" is always better. Now if you want to feel the breeze from the dancers whooshing by you, and the axe during the fight scene, well... ;)

Sunday morning greetings!  The uproar of the past 10 days finally caught up with me after our day of wedding festivities yesterday.  Fr. Richard excused me from church today and I slept almost 12 hours.  I couldn't even stay up to visit with Rob and Mary Linda when they got home from the second wedding reception.  They were dancing sweetly to "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You" when we left there.

DR MBarnum, in another desperate attempt to elevate your artistic standards, I'm posting two photos of opera baritone Paul LaRosa in the operas THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER and CARMEN. I know you'd prefer to see him in a dubbed voice standing in front of the gates of Thebes waiting for the gorgons to attack, while you pray that his talents as an actor are as low as your expectations, but i'm doing my damndest to bring you some culture.

On Friday night I watched GNOMEO and JULIET with  my nieces and two of their friends.  It is interesting how they write these animated movies. They have one level for adults and one level for the kids.

For example Elton John wrote the music and there was a bit where there was a cartoon guy dressed in big Elton John glasses looking exactly like him. Well the kids were laughing hysterically because they thought it was so funny. But of course they don't know who Elton John is.

It was a cute movie. But as it was ending I was praying that they would change the Romeo and Juliet ending. My niece was so invested in those garden gnomes. She was practically in tears as she wondered if Gnomeo and Juliet would survive!

I rather enjoyed the Armstrong Floor, Ceiling, and Wax version of "Brigadoon"  ...  all done in about 81 minutes.

Mr Goulet got much better as the story went along - acting wise - although his face is so....weird, it's hard to watch him sing for any length of time.....

Ms Sally Ann Howes was very good as Fiona and Frank Fuller or someone was Charlie.....ballet dancer Edward Villella was Harry Beaton - and his sword dance was good......they left out all of the lyrics of the 'chase' which made me sad.....but the sets were very nice....the costumes.....okay....  Ms Marlyn Mason played Meg.....

We saw Mr Goulet do MAN OF LA MANCHA many years ago - and he was very good....

I saw Mr. Goulet perform only once.  He was the headliner in a show at Harrah's Club in Reno.  During his openning song he walked around through the tables picking up cigarette packs off of tables and crushing them in his hand.  I believe he had recently quit smoking.

Well, I once played Enoch Snow, Jr.  That wasn't a thrilling role.  In fact, I don't know that there are any roles in Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals that I'd care to play.  Isn't that weird?

I am still thinking about DR JOSE as Linda Low.

It would be one of those performances of which one says "you had to be there."

DR JRand60, PROMENADE opened the Promenade Theatre at 74th and Broadway in late spring, 1969, produced by Edgar Lansbury, with an amazing cast including Madeline Kahn as the Waitress, George S. Irving as the Mayor, Shannon Bolin of DAMN YANKEES as the Mother, Alice Playten as Miss U) and a wonderful cast of singers. It was about two young prisoners who dig their way out of prison to steal their way into society. They encounter the rich snobs (Mr R. Mr S, and Mr T, and Misses I, O, and U), the poor (the waitress, the dishwasher, and the waiter), and end up on a battlefield where the country cannot afford to give the soldiers guns fighting a war for reasons they don't understand while the wealthy perform maypole dances with the wounded soldiers' bandages. The prisoners decide jail is safer.

It's a large dose of theatre of the absurd, and I used to tell people it was as if Ionesco or Samuel Beckett wrote Leonard Bernstein's CANDIDE. When I was doing community theatre in the 1970s, I almost did a production but I wasn't sure I'd have the voices for it. I used to have a complete reel-to-reel performance of the whole score, and I'd love it if an mp3 file turned up some day. The commercial RCA recording is about half of the score, but Alice Playten has this fantastic number, "Capricious and Fickle," about a broken love affair ("In spite of my reputation as a woman with no heart/ I gave my heart to you").

It's on the calendar in pen since Friday night, and we'd have to get a new 2011 calendar if it didn't happen, and that would just be too much trouble.  :)

We differ on whether we want a real big ceremony, though, now that it's a reality.  When we were both working, we were going to do something big, but probably not the way things are right now.

When I was house pianist at 13 Coins in downtown Portland, Mr. Robert Goulet walked into the joint after a concert he had given across the street at Keller Auditorium.  I launched into The Happy Time, which I thought would be a nice, lesser known homage to him.  He came over, thanked me, and left me a nice tip.

Was the 13 Coins in Portland related to the two 13 Coins in Seattle?

Thank you for the update.

Congratulations it will finally happen.  No matter what the size will Toby & Dylan be the best men?

The traffic to the Taste of Tacoma is the worst that I have ever seen.  It goes from the entrance to the park (which would be probably 54th Street) to around 35th Street.  For the Taste the one lane going to the park has been made into two lanes, and it is still at a complete stop.

I've been in a really down mood lately, so yesterday and today I did a little retail therapy and decided to actually have a 50th birthday party for myself.   It's going to be very low key, picnic in the back yard with beer and wine sort of thing.  I'm looking forward to it.  There's a ton of work to do to clean the house, but i can set the big projects aside for awhile and do it.

I'm feeling much better.   I also decided to go to the lake for a couple days of the long weekend.  Apparently my family has decided they should celebrate my birthday, so I think we'll be doing that on the 3rd when the lake my parents are on has their independence day celebration.

My mother used to tell this story about her charming little boy.  Apparently, when I was around four or five, I went with my mother to a wedding for some cousin or friend.  On the way home, I was looking very sad, so she asked me if I was unhappy about something from the wedding.  I told her that I was very unhappy because I never got to see the ring barrell.

I actually had the weirdest thing happen tonight which could have been much worse.  When I was getting some balsamic vinegar out of the cupboard apparently the olive oil bottle was stuck to it. And it fell on my toe.

I have no idea how a bottle could be stuck to another bottle. Very odd. Luckily i was wearing closed slippers. ANd luckily the bottle was almost empty. I iced my foot and it is fine. Thank goodness.

Good Evening!

Whew!

My first week of Oklahoma! rehearsals ended around 6:30, and then I stopped at Trader Joe's on the way back to my brother's place. And then once I got back here, I sat in the recliner, turned on the TV and just watched a couple of hours of quality(!) programming. And now...

Cilla, I think it is a wonderful idea to throw your own party.  I wish I had done that for my 60th birthday.

My options are to throw my own party or not have one. Well, the family says they want to celebrate my birthday over the holiday weekend.  That means I may go up there an extra day, but we'll see

Cilla, I think it is a wonderful idea to throw your own party.  I wish I had done that for my 60th birthday.

I spent my entire brithday weekend bracing myself for the big surprise.  Well, the surprise was on me.  Nobody even thought about it.

I can relate to situations like that.  My friends keep bugging me to have a party. I just haven't done it.  I'm glad I bit the bullet and sent the email out.  I've already had a couple responses.  I once had an oscar party. I made theme food, had a great spread and granted it was only for about 6 people, but everyone cancelled at the last minute.  The part that really stunk was they all had good reasons.  I was devastated and promised myself I wouldn't have another party.  But, that was when I lived at the lake and my open house was well attended, so it's time to do it.

DR Sandra and I took the Goldstein Sisters to see a youth theater production of "Annie." They did a great job, and our girls were on their very best behavior.

DR Laura - Are the Goldstein Sisters showing any theatrical inclinations? Do they take any dance or music lessons?

It's on the calendar in pen since Friday night, and we'd have to get a new 2011 calendar if it didn't happen, and that would just be too much trouble.  :)

We differ on whether we want a real big ceremony, though, now that it's a reality.  When we were both working, we were going to do something big, but probably not the way things are right now.

Congratulations it will finally happen.  No matter what the size will Toby & Dylan be the best men?

I think they would be very cute ring bearers

I thought about that but the way they like to eat I wasn't sure that would be safe ;)

Toby and Dylan have asked to be the caterers.  They've promised to try everything to make sure it's to everyone's liking.

So will everyone be getting to keep their can opener as a wedding favor? Or will Toby and Dylan be serving "dinners" with pull-tabs?

We had another storm tonight. Lots of wind and rain. Since we had to be in the basement, I cleaned up the bathroom.  It was a mess after cleaning up the mess after the last storm and I just hadn;t gotten around to cleaning the floor.  Now I won't have to wear shoes to go take a shower in the morning, lol

The flooding just keeps getting worse.  It seems like more and more highways are being closed.   I read the berm around the nuclear power plant north of Omaha was breached.  It's crazy.  The only thing that's crazier are the rumors.

Time to get some sleep.  I've got to be in court early in the morning and have a fairly busy day tomorrow.  So far no water in the basment.  I'm still glad the carpet is gone.  It was much less stressful when they predicted heavy rain.   I did go out and put in a board to redirect some of the water and I think it worked.

Started watching "Rabbit Hole." As the credits rolled, I thought, "Wow, what a great cast: Aaron Eckhart, Jon Tenny, Patricia Kalember, Dianne Wiest, Giancarlo Esposito ..." Now that the movie has started, I realize I should have been saying, "Uh oh, Nicole Kidman." She's killing the movie for me.

It's too bad that they didn't let Cynthia Nixon reprise her role for the movie. -Of course, since Nicole Kidman bought the film rights... after only reading the play (not seeing it)... Well... :-\

Interesting thought by a parade-marcher on TV  for Pride Day was that "instead of demanding something as we have had to in years past, this year we were celebrating"  - I'm paraphrasing, of course.

Again, errant and truant.

Cleaned out 17 plastic storage boxes and took the empty containers to store at my neighbors.   I almost have a 2nd room for the 1st time.

That took me 2 days.

Looking forward to 3 days off this weekend.
