Well, you've read the notes, the notes kickstarted and were successful, and now it is time for you to post until the successful cows come home.

It's another lovely Sunday morning on Long Island and I'm, again, sitting on the patio with my oatmeal and coffee. I'm listening to Showtime on BBC Radio Wales. The rest of the house is asleep.

Good morning (well, for about 7 more minutes, anyway) from London!

BK-congratulations on being fully funded!  Looking forward to the DVD!

I can't remember when I last wrote.  I think it was after I had arrived in Liverpool.  On Thursday my friend (who drove from Manchester) and I went for a walk at Albert Dock and other areas near the River Mersey.   They have a big outdoor (which doesn't make much sense considering how much it rains there) mall with shops, restaurants and movie theatres.

At Albert Dock there's a Beatles Museum, a giant Ferris Wheel and I believe a Museum of Art, among other attractions.

We took a "ferry cross the Mersey," which sounds more glamorous than it is!  There really isn't much to see across the river, but it was nice feeling the cool breeze off the river -I think the temp was in the high 60s and mostly sunny that day.  (I'm so glad to be away from the 100 degree temperatures in DC).

Glenn and I had dinner at a restaurant at Albert Dock.   It took forever to be served and the food was just passable.  Glenn ordered garlic bread.  I don't particularly like garlic and at first turned down his offer to try some.  He told me there was very little garlic, so I tried some-it was very good bread but hardly any garlic at all.

So then it was time for the concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.  It was conducted byJohn Wilson, who's considered a young genius here (I think he's about 38 yrs old).  Maybe some of the HHWs have head of him?  He also conducts the "Proms" sometimes.

The show was a tribute to Lerner and Loewe and starred Anthony Andrews of Brideshead Revisited fame (and he played the prime minister in The King's Speech); Annalene Beechey, who starred in a touring production of My Fair Lady with Mr Andrews; Kim Criswell and our own Mr. Barrett.

Anthony Andrews served as the Narrator and also "sang" a couple of songs such as "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" and "How to Handle a Woman."  Kim Criswell sang (wonderfully) songs such as "Where are the Simple Joys of Maidenhood,"  "I Loved You Once In Silence," "Waitin' for My Dearie," and another song from Brigadoon: I think it's called "The One True Love of my Life."  Annalene sang songs from My fair Lady such as "I Could Have Danced All night" and "Just You Wait."   Brent started out with "C'est Moi," and also sang "Almost Like Being in Love," "There But for You Go I" and "From this Day On" (all of which were sung as in the show -as duets--with Annalene).  Oh, and "If Ever I Would Leave You!"   Needless to say, he was fantastic.  The whole cast did "Camelot" and "They Called the Wind Maria."

Glenn and I had a nice chat with Brent after the show and I said hello to Kim Criswell, whom I had met last year when I was in Birmingham (UK).

On Friday, we checked out of our hotel in Liverpool and drove to Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters.   It was a very scenic area --we passed through the Pennines and then to the "moors."  There's a tour of the "parsonage," where the family lived.  Most of the furniture and objects in the house were owned by the family.  I never realized there were a total of 6 children and that the father outlived them all (the mother had died when the children were mostly quite young).  Charlotte seems to be represented the most, with letters, clothing, etc of hers on display.

The cobblestone streets in the town are quaint, but hard on the feet!

We had tea and scones at a little tea place.  It wasn't exactly authentic as far as the cream goes--they served whipped cream from a can--not clotted cream.  But it was very good (and very high in fat, I'm sure).

Afterwards we drove to Glenn's home, where I met his parents and niece for the first time. We had more tea (very British!) and a very nice visit.

Glenn drove me to my hotel in central  Manchester ( he lives outside of the city).  I checked in and we went for a walk around.  It's not what you would call a pretty city.

Yesterday morning I took the train back to London.  I checked in to my hotel in the Paddington Station area--I've stayed in this area many times.  They have pretty reasonable rates and it's easy to get around on the "tube."  In addition, the Heathrow Express train leaves from Paddington very often and only takes about 15 minutes to get to Heathrow airport.

I saw "Ghost, the Musical," on Glenn's recommendation yesterday.  Let's just say it wasn't my favorite show of all time.  The actress who played the Whoopi Goldberg role was very funny and belted out a great tune or two.  But the rest of the show did nothing for me.  Very unmemorable songs.   I guess I was in the minority, though.  Other audience members were very vocal about their love for the show.

After a quick dinner I went to see Pygmalion.  I was always curious to see how closely My Fair Lady followed it.  While some of the dialogue is the same or close, I was surprised to see how much more time Mrs. Higgins has.  She was played by Diana Rigg, who was wonderful.  And Rupert Everett played Henry.  Sorry I can't remember the actress who played Eliza, but she was very good.  I do think she sounded a little like Audrey Hepburn in the way she pronounced some words--I'm not sure it was intentional or not.

Well, my battery is running low.  I've got to go for now!

I'm going to see AL webber's Wizard of Oz in a couple of hours.

Hey, Kevin, glad you're enjoying London and England. I miss my grandmother's country. With all this dental work being done I'm not sure when we will get back. But, I always have the BBC. I'm listening to Desmond Carrington right now, as a matter of fact. It's almost 8am. After Desmond I will go in and read Newsday and the Daily News.

Sunday morning greetings!  Fr. Richard is on his way to Lima and Rob is at Sinclair Community College taking the practical part of the national paramedic registry exam.  Mary Linda and I have the house to ourselves - I was unable to go back to sleep after the guys left, but she's out cold.

Good morning, all! I had a terrible, sleepless night of tossing and turning and wanted to sleep late, but the I don't want to screw up my sleeping patterns more than they are at present.

BK, good news about Kickstarter! I miss the days when I had actual pin money to play with as I pleased. So far, not in 2011!

DR Jose, the Holocaust film that left me shattered was Au Revoir, Les Enfants, after which I vowed, no more.

DR Kevn H, I have heard fantastic things about John Wilson from friends at Rodgers & Hammerstein, and I know he works a lot with Miss Kimmy. I'm glad you enjoyed the concert.

I've decided to go into Toyland tomorrow instead of this morning; after last weekend's two frustrating days of power problems - which have not occurred during the week - I'll do the scans tomorrow morning.

I guess that's it for the nonce. More coffee!

I have a souvenir book from 1776 that lists the same cast that DR ELMORE listed yesterday.

DR ELMORE I think my dislike with the show comes from my antipathy toward Mr Daniels - who is always so supercilious in interviews and in those television shows he appeared in .... which I read and saw many years before I saw the movie version of the musical.

Perhaps I just need to see a good production of it....or work on it.

Congrats on getting funded!

It must happened sometime after 10:30PM EST just before I went to bed. I realized that I had a new credit card and check card because my account was compromised. I went online to update my information and saw that there was still a ways to go.

And this morning I signed on to see the good news!!

That may be Mr Daniels' personality. I really don't know, because I only met him once, around 2002, and he was very kind. Maybe he doesn't like doing interviews? Some actors really are shy and don't like talking about themselves. With others, it's all about me. I always suspected that it was his prickly but absolutely wonderful performance as John Adams that led to his getting other prickly brusque roles. He was certainly a nebbish is Barbara Harris' fiance warren in ON A CLEAR DAY.

I also liked him very much in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. He was one of the second cast replacements, and the only really good one, taking over for Len Cariou. The new Henrik was really awful, and the wonderful Barbara Lang, who had played Abigail Adams in the 1776 tour, was not a very good Desiree

I shall take your information under advisement DR ELMORE.

When I was a grad student in 1970, Judy Collins performed at Miami University and I was really excited to see her because I loved her recordings. It was a very fraught performance: she seemed unhappy, not very communicative with the audience, and left the stage with no encores. For a long time I thought her the rudest performer I'd ever been unlucky to see. A friend of mine from school worked for her as a seamstress sometime between 1972 and 1976 and said she was a total bitch to work for.

Sometime in the mid to late 1990s, Jonathan Tunick. who had scored several numbers for her, refudiated this. I had read about her son Clark's suicide and I started reading things she'd written. She wrote honestly about all of her marital problems, custody fights, and general misery in the late 1960s and 1970s: getting neurotic and paranoid, going through panic attacks and cancelling performances, and, when I finally met her around 2003, I found her a very kind lady, shy and gracious, and I forgave her for that concert. I'll never know what was going through her life in May 1970, so I guess I'm grateful for the time she gave that audience, and I wish her well.

Good morning.  I"m pooped out!  It really was a great time last night and was worth all the work, but my back hurts and my feet hurt and I'm sleepy.  I'm really glad that we did the clean up last night.  I have things to put away, but if I don't do it right now, it really doesn't matter.   Paul is going to come over today and get some of the left over beer.  There's quite a bit here and I never drink it sitting here myself.  I got an email about the owner of the bowl I had no idea about and the "friend" who was very well behaved has offered to come over and deliver the dishes left here to their respective owners.  One less thing to worry about

This was one of the hit recipes of the party. The person who brought it just shared it with all of us so I thought I'd pass it on

CURRIED CHICKEN PATE

1 ½ Cups chopped cooked chicken
1 Stick butter, cut into bits
½ Medium Delicious Apple, peeled
1 Shallot, coarsely chopped
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
½ tsp salt
½ tsp curry powder
Freshly ground pepper
In a food processor, combine chicken, butter, apple, shallot, lemon juice, salt, curry powder, and pepper.  Puree until smooth.
Pack mixture into a serving crock.  If made in advance, cover and refrigerate up to 2 days.

I cannot reveal the things I know from Goodspeed, 1989.  I'm keeping them for the memoirs.

And Miss Clark and Miss Collins are nowhere in the same class.

Elmore, I know your feelings about Ms. Clark, and I am quite sure that they are valid.  But not knowing a thing about the woman, I was truly moved by her performance in TITANIC (a show you also didn't like).

You're right; I thought that the musical TITANIC was terrible: bad book, bad design, bad direction, and some beautiful musical numbers. As to the actress playing a role I assume was based on Molly Brown, I found her over the top and her character truly obnoxious. I'd have preferred less Hyacinth Bucket and more Meredith Willson.  I kept hoping she'd drown by accident. I also dislike her continual reliance on the see-how-hard-I'm working school of acting. It was really over the top in the last CABARET revival.

Perhaps the same communities can lasso the wind at the same time and stop these crises in the midwest like the one our DR Cillaliz and her friend Joe went through!

Thank you one and all for the vibes and prayers for yesterday's test.  Great strides have been made since the coffin like machine I was in ten years ago.  This time I was like a hamurger patty and they slid me into this giant hamburger bun.  It was pretty close quarters, but I could side out the sides of the bun and even look out a window.  This pill I took did its duty, and I almost fell asleep during the test.

HHW Vibes are magical!

Good news, DR TCB! How soon will they know if they will have to shoot you?

Unfortunately, no one told me that they needed copies of the previous MRI before they could read the new one.  The tech is going to contact my own doctor and my previous surgeon to see if either of them has them on file.  If they are not available, I don't know where we go from here.

No, lol, it won't be in the society page.  I have a wonderful group of friends who I've known for the past 10 years.  I've invited people to go out with me, but haven't had a party since I moved here.  It was really past time to do it.  Now that I've done it and it was so successful. My dear friend who drove me to my appointment is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to know.  If she has a flaw, it is that she tends to blurt out what she thinks, even when she should probably not say anything.

I have been living with this horrible fear of what might be wrong with me, but until I have told that the problem is not my back, I refuse to think about the other possibility.  My friend had not seen me in the last four weeks, so she hadn't seen how badly my condition had become.  With in the first three minutes of seeing me, she said, "Oh my God, it looks to me like you have ____.  I ignored the first comment, but once we got into her car and were driving to the appointment, she said it twice more.

I overreacted.  I told her quite loudly that the thought had crossed my mind, and others had mentioned it too; but until I heard differently from the doctor, I didn't want that word said outloud.  I am very lucky that she didn't just dump me out into the street and leave me there.  I have since apologized.

I had the very same reaction; all the clerks at Barnes & Noble wondered why the first book was selling so well so we all determined to by a first edition, as well as all the subsequent ones so we could each sell a complete first edition set. A lot of those early books are probably beaten to hell by children now, and my complete set is very pristine. Once I bought it, I had to read it and soonevery clerk at B&N was addicted; it was like reading OLIVER TWIST rewritten by the author of THE WIZARD OF OZ

TCB, I find that people who care about you also have anxieties about your condition. Unfortunately, they often pass these onto the patient, which ISN'T helpful. I knew someone with cancer who would accept cards and emails, but avoided other contact, because she felt she needed to stay positive. I can truly understand this. Maybe it would help to think of a nice way to say how you feel about it and have that ready in case it happens again. And repeat it as many times as needed. Make it clear that further discussion is off-limits.

Barrett.

Mr. Barrett!  You must have been shocked!

Yes, what a lucky coincidence!  I had actually gone to see Annalene Beechey.

Well, I went to see The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium today.  I really enjoyed it.  Of course, the movie is such a big part of my childhood (as it is with lots of people, of course) that maybe that has something to do with it.

Michael Crawford was fine as the Wizard, but as in the movie, he has a small role.  As a matter of fact, he was not the final actor to take a bow--the actress playing Dorothy, Danielle Hope was given that honor, understandably.

I hardly recognized Michael Crawford.  Before the show I was standing across the street and saw a poster from the show.   I thought to myself:  "Is Rip Taylor in this production?"

Just about all the songs from the movie were included.  The only one I can think of that was missing was "If I Were King of the Forest."   There were a few new songs---the only memorable one was sung by Glinda, the Good Witch --it had to do with the theme "there's no place like home."

I have to say it took getting used to the different voices of the characters.  I didn't care too much for the actress playing The Wicked Witch.    Hannah Waddingham (I know I've heard of her before -just can't think of what I've seen her in) was out so the understudy went on.

The sets are pretty amazing, especially the Wizard's "place."  The dog playing Toto was adorable and even barked at Miss Gulch when required.  Most of the time, though, he was on a leash.  It looked a little silly when Glinda was leading him along while the Munchkins and Dorothy were singing.

There were a few gay references which seemed to go over the heads of most audience members (of course it was made up of about 50% children).  At one point, the Cowardly Lion tells the Tinman he's acting like a sissy, who says something like "takes one to know one."  The Lion's response:  "I am what I am."  And the following line had about 3 people laughing:  The group is meeting the Wizard of Oz.  The Wizard asks, "Who's Dorothy?"  Dorothy says "I'm Dorothy."  The Lion walks up to her, takes her hand and says " And I'm proud to say I'm a friend of Dorothy."     I'm wondering if those who buy the t-shirt that says "Friend of Dorothy" have an idea of its meaning!

Speaking of the aforementioned audience members, I was prepared for talkative children, but the little girl in my row  was talking constantly for awhile.  At intermission (interval in Britspeak) I glanced over and saw she was about 7 years old (I had been thinking she was about 4).  And it was funny when one child yelled out "It's the Munchkins!"

I know a topic recently discussed here was when the audience claps in rhythm during the bows.  That's bad enough--some woman across from me started doing that during the song "We're off to see the Wizard," and lots of people followed here lead.  It was very annoying!

Well, that's the end of my London stay.

Tomorrow I'm flying to Newcastle.

I have told this story here before, but here I go again.  A friend of mine was playing The Scarecrow in  a community production of WIZARD OF OZ.  When our friends reached the scary forest and said, "Lions." "And Tigers", "And Bears;" the entire audience as one said, "Oh My!"

As soon as we realized that we used our "outside" voices, we all laughed.

DR Cillaliz - congratulations on the success of last night's party!  I hope you're finding today very restful...

Thanks Ginny, I am. I have only been out once today and that was to deliver some things to Paul.  Paul's mom is at his house for a few days while his sister and her husband go on a short trip.  His nephew installed one of those inside air conditioners that vent out the window, and Paul has one fan, I loaned him my high power fan to help force the air through the house.   I also took them some left over pulled pork, a package of buns, some cake and most of the left over beer.

I loved a lot of "Titanic," especially the music but also scenes in the book. Saw it on the same Saturday as "Side Show," then in previews. Loved that one, too, despite its flaws.

I have never read a Harry Potter book.  I have never seen a Harry Potter movie.  I have nothing against Harry Potter, the genre just isn't my cup of tea

When my friend, Stan, offered to lend me the first HARRY POTTER book, I thought he was crazy.  But I took it home, and one day when I was out of books to read, I picked it up, and I instantly fell in love with the characters and the story.

A charming description. Just back from the movie. Satisfying conclusion to the series. Some genuine tear-inducing scenes. Wonderful seeing Maggie Smith back, even Emma Thompson, though they gave her nothing to do, Helena Bonham Carter, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, David Thewlis, Ciaran Hinds and the rest of those amazing actors. As good as the kids are, the movie belongs to Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. Now, who's going to get them all back together in something else worthy of their talents?

I think the only movie I have ever walked out of was BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON.  There have been a lot of films that I should have walked out of, but that was the only one I can remember doing it.
I saw the first few minutes of that on video years ago and had a similar allergic reaction.

It's likely going to be sooner than I want it to be.   If Joe and Jon come up from Joplin in August as they have planned, I'm going to have a party then.  The nice thing is I'll have Joe and Jon to help me get ready.

I've moved on to WIVES AND DAUGHTERS with the great Francesca Annis as the stepmother from hell. I didn't think I'd watched it, but as the first part unfolded, I realized I had at least seen a large chunk, if not all of it. I have no memory of the conclusion, so I'm going to keep watching. Excellent cast. I love Michael Gambon.

Loved the New York Times review of "Annie Get Your Gun" at Glimmerglass. Seems the opera house was not afraid of including "I'm an Indian, Too" and the rest of the original show. That's the way I first saw in an outdoor  community theater production (with about 75 people on stage) and would love to see it that way again.
