Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a love story, and now it is time for you to post until the Broadway cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BANDERSNATCH!
-
I received a wonderfully wonderful e-mail from Robert A. Harris, the premiere restoration expert. He'd been very helpful with his advice during the whole Nudie transfer - very gracious and very sweet and I gave him a thank you for it. He watched the disc last night and was so complimentary about the transfer - it really made me happy. He basically said that we got right what studios frequently get wrong and that the result was like seeing a pristine print of the film.
-
Topic of the Day: there are just so many that I love, but if I had to pick just one...I think my absolute favorite would have to be "Unsung Sondheim." :)
It was the first that I'd ever gotten that had "Produced by Bruce Kimmel" on it and after I noticed that name on other CDs that I loved, I started getting just about anything with BK's name on it. :D

Nice!

Last night, I went to see "The Phantom of the Opera" that was filmed live in London very recently. For the most part, it was fabulous! I love the singers, I loved the costumes, I loved the set and staging (they essentially had electronic LED screens for the set, but it all worked quite well).
-
What didn't work was the damned digital technology. :P They were supposed to show a "making of" documentary before the show-proper started, but about 10 minutes into it (it started about 20 minutes before the show start time), it started pixelating and freezing up for a few seconds at a time. After about five minutes of this, someone from the theater came in and apologized, and said that they would have to turn off the documentary part and they would check the main show for any glitches. After another 10 minutes, they came back and said that there were only a couple of glitches that would only be about 10 seconds each, at the most, but if anyone wanted their money back or a rain check for another show, they would do that. The guy kept on apologizing...that was nice. I'm pretty sure that everyone stayed at that point.
-
They started the show and it was wonderful...for about 10 minutes, then the pixelating and freezing started again for a few seconds...then it stopped for a while, then it started again. This went on and off for about an hour! A few people did leave at various times during that first hour. It finally settled down and the rest of the first act seemed fine. As we left for the intermission, they were handing out gift cards for a free movie...and it would be good even for the Met broadcasts, which could cost more than what Phantom cost! So, I took that and ended up not asking for a refund.
-
I stayed for the second act and it was flawless. After the show and bows, ALW came out and spoke and then they brought on four previous Phantoms, including Colm Wilkinson and Anthony Warlow, and then they brought out members of the original London cast, including Michael Crawford (he really seemed touched by all the applause) and Sarah Brightman. She sang with the four Phantoms (and then Ramin Karimloo even joined...but Michael Crawford didn't sing). And then EVERYONE sang. The whole thing last about three hours and was worth it. I definitely WILL be buying the blu-and-ray disc! :D

Morning all.
That is all.

Happy Day to JMK!
That almost rhymes.

It's predicted that we will have a beautiful early fall day and weekend, in the high 60s, maybe even a 70 with lots of sun.
Yay!
-
For the first time in 15 (or more) years my office will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day. Though it will be nice to have the day off we are in the middle of a time crunch and don't need to lose the hours.
Oh, well.
Later, gaters.

A happy birthday to JMK

Happiest of birthdays to DR JMK!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm at ABC Studios.
-
This morning I will be/am attending a taping of ABC's new food-centric talk show, "The Chew". I'm not sure if the 9:00am taping will be shown later today or if it will be shown tomorrow. In any case, it should be fun.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late because I can, and now I am bathed, dressed and on my first cup of coffee contemplating today's events. I may wander down to City Center and help Joshie with a question he has on a Saint-Saens piece he is orchestrating for the Encores! Gala. Tomorrow I have a return visit to my dermatologist, and today's wide open.
Last night I watched the first episode of AMERICAN FAMILY HORROR STORY, or something like that, on FX. I think I liked it. I may watch it next week.
I have nothing else to report. I am refraining from today's TOD because I like too many of them.
-
Congratulations to Alet! Sounds like it was a great show.

I watched the first episode. I love food shows. But not sure if this is for me. It seemed to be more chatty and less about food. Although I enjoy Carla from Top Chef. She is so funny.

Good Morning, once again!
Well... I survived "The Chew". Rather, I survived sitting amongst the 10 or so screaming(!!!!!!!!) fans of Joe Jonas (who was the special guest today). At first they were annoying, and then they were really annoying. However, the hosts and the producers ended up switching up the final segments, and it made dealing with practically going deaf worth it. Well, almost worth it. ;)
Tune in later today on ABC to see what I mean, or watch it online starting tomorrow on ABC's website.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR JMK!!!!!
-
Congrats to Alet! Congrats to bk!
-
bk - Will you still be going a Gardenia show in December? -Well, during the usual time/week slot that you do the Kritzerland shows at The Gardenia?
-
And now...
As it turns out, I am on TV Talk Show crawl today. I had put in requests for tickets to various TV talk shows as part of my post-DC NYC stay-cation. As it turned out, due to various schedule changes, I have three of them today: "The Chew", "Anderson" and "The Colbert Report".
Fun! Fun! Fun! And all for Free too!

JMK - if you're serious, of course!

And speaking of Anderson Cooper, it's time for me to head down to Jazz at Lincoln Center at the Time-Warner Center at Columbus Circle ::) for this afternoon's taping.

I'll email you.

I sort of like SUBURGATORY - the new show - I especially like Jeremy Sisto who plays the father - but the actress who is playing his 'teen aged' daughter looks old enough to be his wife.
She is supposed to be 16.
However, there was one funny line exchange last night. The daughter was very attracted to the boy across the street, but she was very distressed at his ignorance.....
Girl: Okay....if you could have dinner with any celebrity, dead or alive....who would it be.
Boy: (after some thought)..... Scarlet Johanson.......dead.

Happy, happy, Birthday DR JMK!!

My friend Chris Darling just sent me the news that he's one of the producers for a new Perry Mason film starring Robert Downey. That's quite a change from Raymond Burr, but I wish him a success with it.
-
bk - Will you still be going a Gardenia show in December? -Well, during the usual time/week slot that you do the Kritzerland shows at The Gardenia?
Yes, but happily for our show, it follows our closing. Speaking of our show, my senility is truly frightening me - I spent an hour yesterday doing damage control because I'd booked a pianist for the LACC auditions for four o'clock today, which is what I remembered. I remembered wrong - it's seven to ten. We got it all straightened out. I was so tired when writing the notes last night that in outlining my day today I didn't even remember the auditions. Go know. So, I have a production meeting at three and auditions in the evening - I'll go eat between those two events.
-
Oh, and I'm up. I was up at four for about an hour, then fell back asleep until nine-thirty. I'll jog in about thirty minutes.
-
It is a BEAUTIFUL day in Phoenix, AZ. I just spent an insane amount of money for stuff for a fall garden.

CHIX 6.
I am intrigued.

LOL! Larry, are you thinking of Raymond Burr from his Ironside or Perry Mason remake days?
Here's Raymond Burr in the original Perry Mason days, before the big weight gain:

Mr. Robert A. Harris has posted "A Few Words About...The First Nudie Musical" at the Home Theatre Forum - here's what he had to say:
I screened Mark Haggard & Bruce Kimmel's The First Nudie Musical last night as a prologue to viewing Thor. If one is seeking a connection, there isn't one.
A friend stopped by who had never seen TFNM, and after spending a few minutes watching the set-up, fell for it's low-budget charms. It was produced for 200k, and partially funded by Paramount.
The film is about the son of a down and out studio owner, who, in order to get the studio back on its feet and keep ownership out of the hands of investors, has turned to porn to bring in the funds necessary to keep things running.
But the bills have come due, and something special in needed. A cross-over to bring in new audiences...
and The First Nudie Musical is born.
The set-up isn't far from the old Judy Garland - Mickey Rooney M-G-M musicals, except the words, "I've got some curtains in the attic..." are never spoken.
Throw in some asides that harken back to the great RKO days of Astaire and Rogers and a bit of WB Busby Berkeley, and you'll have some idea of what TFNM has in store. This is a film created on a shoestring by people love the movies and their history.
When the film arrived in March of 1976 many critics fell for its charms. They loved Cindy Williams, (fresh from American Graffiti and The Conversation, and beginning her long stint on Happy Days) and her sweet dead-pan comedic charms. Even her Happy Days co-star, Ron Howard, makes a cameo appearance at an audition, confused by the trade ad reading "tap shoes, rehearsal clothes, possible nudity, and they don't want any albinos."
As full disclosure is proper, I've known Mr. Kimmel for thirty years. He occasionally posts to HTF. And this is where it gets interesting. The film was shot on 35mm, but after the distribution agreement with Paramount ended, the original negative went missing. The DVD was struck from some used combined prints, which was not what the filmmakers would have liked.
But several months ago, someone located some cans holding pre-print elements, and Mr. Kimmel was brought into the picture. While not the OCN, at least a printing CRI had been found. Those who visit here often will be aware that CRIs tend to have a shelf life of about seven years -- and that time period had expired decades ago.
And this is where full disclosure comes in.
I received a call from Mr. Kimmel for advice. Moving forward to do an HD image harvest from a faded element is hardly worth the investment, so I arranged for him to take the element to my inspection facility of choice, the best in the known Universe, Pro-Tek in Burbank, which is owned by Kodak. The advise was simple. Get a reel on an inspection bench, look at facial highlights, and if they're blue, you're done.
If they're green, you have a viable element.
They were green.
From there, the element went to FotoKem for scanning, and with Mr. Kimmel, who knows a thing or three about color, grain structure, shadow detail, etc. at the helm, there were no concerns about what the final product would look like.
What we have in this new Blu-ray of The First Nudie Musical, is something that even some of the majors don't seem to be able to produce on a continuing basis.
Projected on a large screen, it has the perfect look of film. Audio is in DTS-HD.
The First Nudie Musical is very much a low-budget love poem to the cinema, made by people who love film. It is charming and naive in many ways.
Only with nudity.
If you're going to be offended, steer clear.
But if 94 minutes of a very unusual 1975 production, on an absolutely perfect Blu-ray release sounds promising, then The First Nudie Musical comes Recommended.
Did I mention the wonderfully classic "Dancing Dildoes" number?

Laverne and Shirley, of course, began life on a series of Happy Days episodes, hence his confusion.
And Diana Canova was on an episode or two of "Happy Days," too.

The frumious Bandersnatch?

I won and asylum hearing today. My client is 16. I think he may have committed suicide if they had sent him home. Needless to say, I am thrilled.
-
Great news, Cillaliz. What about the rest of his family? Would they have been deported, too? Or would he have been deported alone?
-
I guess NBC likes cancelling their new shows. First Playboy Club. And now Free Agent.
-
Good morning, all!
Was that show about the Macbeths? If not, then the show did not live up to its name.
-
Ginny is closing in on 18,000!!!!!
How did THAT happen?
-
Congratulations to you and your 16-year-old client, DR Cillaliz!
-
Happy Birthday, JMK!
Thanks, Laura--I defy you to take a lovely picture of me. ;D
I believe that Laura leaves miracles to The Man upstairs.

Terrific news, Cilla, congratulations!

Great news, Cillaliz. What about the rest of his family? Would they have been deported, too? Or would he have been deported alone?
His dad is still here and has a hearing set in 2015. He's got a different attorney and very little chance to stay here after that. His mother is back in his home country. I'm not at liberty to discuss the grounds at this point, he had the courage to tell me and the court, but not to tell his parents. I'm sure many of you can guess. It was a pro bono case and well worth it.
-
Thanks everyone.

Why would they deport a 16 year-old? I am very happy you won.

Because he wasn't here legally.

Thanks Elmore, me too.

Is Joe Jonas the one that is taking over the lead in HOW TO SUCCEED from Daniel Radcliffe?

Lady M is truly a horror. Macbeth is a fool.
I believe that Macbeth has called me several times since my birthday and hung up when I didn't pick up the phone. I've been meaning to verify with Randy that it's his cell phone number.
I don't know what he wants to talk about, unless it's to tell me once again what an inept idiot I am, or how I never should have been executor for my dad's estate or deserved to inherit anything; I've heard it all before and that was enough. He will never get the opportunity again to communicate those thoughts to me.
I doubt it's to apologize for stealing from me and Randy or for lying to us, or his treatment of our dying father. if he's feeling some fraternal connection at this point, that's his problem. I stopped crying over him in 2007. I do not expect a sincere apology since there have been too many that were bogus. I suspect he's calling on his cell because he doesn't want Lady M to know. What a pussy.
-
I am very tired. I have been really worried about this case and have been working on it as much as I can. I had to be up at 5:00 AM to pick up Edith and my client and drive to the court about 1 1/2 hours away.
-
I have to admit that JMK is my favorite Oliver Stone film.

Good Afternoon!
The taping of "Anderson" was fun. It was taped for future broadcast, so according to the fine print I'm not supposed to talk about it until it airs. -Which I think will happen sometime in the latter half of next week. But I will say that Anderson Cooper spends a lot of time with the audience before the show, during the commercial breaks and afterwards. He actually did a 15-minute Q&A after the taping was done.
-
And now I'm in line for "The Colbert Report"... And I "found" an open wifi signal in the waiting area! :)

Have fun being on TV DR JOSE.
Indeed.
Hey, did the audience get to eat anything on The Chew?
They select 10 "tasters" - "Chew-ers" - to sit at the front table. Alas, I was not one of the chosen today. *And there was no swag today either. Ah, well. ::)

DR Jeffrey!
Thank you.

Nice compliment!!!

DS Zach informs me this is old news (no pun intended), but Amanda Green just posted it on Facebook and it made me LOL:
That is funny.

CHIX 6.
I am intrigued.
Full report at 11!
My friend Chris Darling just sent me the news that he's one of the producers for a new Perry Mason film starring Robert Downey. That's quite a change from Raymond Burr, but I wish him a success with it.
LOL! Larry, are you thinking of Raymond Burr from his Ironside or Perry Mason remake days?
Here's Raymond Burr in the original Perry Mason days, before the big weight gain:

Had my car serviced today. Other than routine servicing, no work needed to be done and the total cost came to the equivalent of $170. Which is quite a contrast to last year's bill of $1,500!
That is great! I waited over 2 1/2 hours to get my car back only to find out what it will cost to have the oil leak repaired. They said 2 days of work for $2,100. I think I need another estimate.
-
While I waited I went to Loew's & Best Buy to look at washers & dryers.

That is one good review!
I am back from lunch with my favorite Broadway star, Mr Ron Raines, who now knows all about my DC trip and the personnel involved, and now I know all about the FOLLIES cast recording. Our waitress was my lovely goddaughter Charlotte Raines.
I know who received a good tip. ;)

I love the EARTH VS THE SPIDER soundtrack CD (with the partial ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE soundtrack)
...and Guy Haines (Haines His Way) and the Cinderella one...
and the soundtrack to TWO FOR A SEESAW...
These are the BK produced CDs that I listen to most often.

Our winds are close to 50mph right now. Hopefully we'll get rain tonight and tomorrow. It's a possibility. That would at least help with the fire threat

Cillaliz, wonderful news about the teenager! It must be very rough, especially, when kids are brought over illegally, through no fault of there own
I am curious is you saw the news story about the farm labor shortage in Alabama since their new anti-illegal immigrant laws went in to effect.
Guess those politicians should have thunk of the consequenses before blindly catering to fear and hatred.
-
DR Jose, will you please show me Anderson Cooper next time I am in NY?

Dorothy sends the most disturbing cards!
I should say...one of those was the potty hand...and it was smiling at us.

Politicians thinking of consequences? LOL, I don't think any of them do that.
It's all crazy. I've been speaking to various groups to describe what our immigration laws are. It's something most people don't bother to find out when discussing immigration. There is no need for all the drama and excitement on any side, although I'll admit I fall into it from time to time.
15 years ago immigration reform that doesn't work was passed into law. No matter the political point of view, once people learn how that system works, I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't think there needs to be change. I think that's the real starting point, but it seems no one wants to consider the practicalities of the law and how the current law actually encourages people to break it. I also think it's wrong for the states to be legislating immigration policy, that's a federal function. My 2 cents.

TOD: "Favorite" Are you kidding?
Hmmmm.....Barrett's "Kander & Ebb"; "Unsung Sondheim", "Lost in Boston", "David Shire" CD, "One-Eyed Jacks", the "Cinderella" CD...and on, and on, and on......
I think One-Eyed Jacks is my favorite. Great score. Great film. If only we had a great Blu and Ray!
That may never happen. The film is in public domain and there are many releases from various DVD companies. Although Paramount released it was produced by an independant company. I am going to presued that the original elements are long gone.
An interesting side note it was the last film made in VistaVision

Thanks.

We are watching high school football, trying to get a glimpse of our dear niece/goddaughter Lauren on the Sycamore sideline. She's doing an athletic training internship at Sycamore High School in Cincinnati this semester.
-
Are you at the game?
-
No, DR Cillaliz, we were watching on TV until time for BIG BANG THEORY. I just switched back to the game and, wonder of wonders, Fox Sports Ohio is actually broadcasting the bands at halftime. Wish ABC and ESPN would do that for college games!
-
G'night!
-
Hello everyone. ^^ Long time no read.
and see, I suppose.
Things have been beautifully hectic at college and at home, and once again I find myself alone with musical songs as my only companion. Besides the internet.
Waiting eagerly for NYAF/NYCC next weekend, hardly believing it's come so fast. Can't wait to strut my stuff out there and get hugs and a bunch of new friends, and to meet up with my new college buddies while hanging out with my old high school ones.
GROUPS, UNITE!!!!!!
So if I see any of you in the city, I'll try my best to make myself recognizeable so you won't be startled. But other then that, just be careful around the javitz center. x)
How's everyone else doing?

Hiya Vixter! So glad you popped in!

We're always glad to have you drop in, WolfeGirl.

Well, the CHIX 6 evening fell apart. We agreed to meet at 6:15 at the bank at 72nd Street and Amsterdam, and Zach said "The Apple Bank?" and I said "yes" because I couldn't remember what bank was at Amsterdam and 72nd. So at 6:15 I couldn't figure out where Zach was because I was standing in fromt of the CAPITOL ONE BANK at 72nd and Amsterdam. In my rush to leave I had forgotten my cell phone, so I couldn't call him. At 6:30 I went home and called him. He was at 73rd and amsterdam in front of THE APPLE BANK.
I called DJ and told him there was no way in hell we'd make the curtain since we'd together screwed up our meeting. I then called Zach back and told him to walk toward 82nd Street and I'd head toward 73rd and we'd meet in the middle. We did and we went out for a drink. Three hours later I'm home, and I have a new good friend, thanks to our DR PennyO.
-
That would make a great movie meet DR ELMORE.
-
Very disappointed in the PWOJECT WUNWAY elimination tonight - and the new After the Runway show was not very well moderated - and the designer of Bad Behavior continued to display said trait.
And how MANY commercials do we have to see about the 5 part movie on Cancer directed by all of the FAMOUS people including Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston? It is EVERY OTHER commercial break on Lifetime.....
I think I liked PR better when it was on Bravo.
-
Work tomorrow.....
-
hello i am home bed for me
happy happy birtday to jmk!!!!!!!!
so glad youe witty self is back amongst us
-
Good Evening!
Well...
I left here at 7:00am.
I just got back here at 12:40am.
It was a good day. A very good day.
:)
-
And since it is late, and since I did have a very long day, I shall catch up on posts in the morning.
Goodnight.
-
Back from auditions - disappointing turnout - and no guys auditioned at all, which will now force me into the position of bringing in three more outsiders, which I was hoping not to do - but when they won't audition what's to be done. I'm told a couple can sing but they don't seem to want to do a musical - weird. Also weird because when I went to LACC we didn't tell THEM what we wanted to do, they told US and we did it.
-
In the end I will probably go with three girls from the department - none are exceptionally strong, but all can be worked with and all the difficult songs will have to go to Alet and Damon and certain songs we did at the Gardenia, like Sherry, cannot happen here, although that could be one of the guest star numbers.
